Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
Mmm, hard to say. The Dreaming Gala wasn't really something that needed a deep Dream dive if we're going back there, though I imagine it could still be made to work.

I kinda feel that Echoing Grandeur is the most suited to a deep dive, given its lines about "From whence does that power come, flooding in from the Dream? What does even the applause and adulation of mere figments raise the potency of your music so?"

Phantasmal Mastery feels probably the most grounded and material I think? Since that's more about practice of summoning in the real world.

So, a couple of thoughts. Our traits, and Argent Vent, give us a couple of miscellaneous +1 bonuses, a total of +2 I think, to basically anything we want to do. Also, I should point out that our Hidden Smile 4 trait takes one progress to advance to the next stage, same as Playful Muse Rapport's 6 trait.

Can we stack those miscellaneous bonuses onto Hidden Smile to get a total of three levels for one action? Advance it three different times, or are the additional bonuses wasted upon the first advancement?

Hopefully the former, because I feel that getting Hidden Smile up will be very important when talking with the Bai envoy that is coming soon.

Nah, one at a time I think. At least we're not allowed to do multiple projects in one action (otherwise, for example, we'd theoretically have enough progress points to do two SSC or both UGM actions in one go :p)

So I must say that I really like the rework. I really like this focus on concepts, as it reflects what we are told about cultivation, that a cultivator moves away from flesh and blood towards more abstract beings. So I really feel that we are now looking at the building blocks to future LQ. Just on the format side, I would like to suggest to maybe add the Heart Demon to the "modifier-section" so we can see what it does (e.g. locking up/banking Community-Progress)?

And so much cool stuff to pick and choose, this is so great! But also hard. In addition to the tournament arc I believe that Yrs has said that the next arc is about establishing ties with Bai emissiaries, so I would vote for both social arts (traits?) to be advanced, which leaves me with one art project.

Probably the Xiangmen one is the one I would chose, since it boosts both Motion and Home which I feel are central concepts, but I must admit I think SNR is super cool as an art, Bear God would be amazing as well to gain a CC, I like Winter Reinforcement too, for its concepts, and PLR also gives very nice projects. However, I am a bit ambivalent on Dream as general. Dreamwalking sure is very interesting and a great concept, but it feels to me not truly fitting LQ? She is not really a dreamer, to my mind. So my favourite is definetely Phantasmal Mastery among the PLR concept as it does not pertain to dream walking, and it seems to be very valuable, too, with improving all our summons.

Xiamen Pt 1 bc I'm curious as hell about the story behind there.

Kindle the Hearth bc Zhengui. Yrs said on Discord that he bank the XP for Community projects and if we build up enough, LQ will probably have an epiphany or something and then Community will be unlocked. So let's finish modifying WHR!

Moonless Sabatuer's Smile bc I wanna prepare for the Bai emissaries who will b nothingike Meizhen is now. Bai politics is literally a pit full of vipers, we gotta be prepared.

Well, I think SSC is a must to advance cultivation. The new system has cultivation art as the primary source of base cultivation, so we shoud advance it as quickly as possible.
With all of the discussion about Armor and what we'll do with and after SNR I think this might be useful. It seems to suggest what's absorbed by SNR goes somewhere and that's a really interesting parallel if we want to make a Mist or Dream based Armor Art. I'm thinking like a mist containing a dream haze, everything that enters is lost and vanished. We leverage Ling Qi being able to turn shadowy and immaterial into also shunting part of whatever attacks her into another world, using Dream for defense twice over and build on the idea of Ling Qi escaping the cold, violent world into Dream, by reversing that idea and instead shunting all the cold and violence into the beyond. Since SNR has the Reflections Keyword maybe this is the path to a counterattack move as well, where we find out where arrows or lightning bolts go and sending them back at the opposition. Would also have some delightful parallels with Ling Qi being a thief, literally stealing whatever is used to attack her, making it lost only to emerge as her own
This is incredible

But I think it might be better to wait with it a bit, unless we can combine it with the dream dive. Maybe when meeting the Bai, I think this might be best.

This sounds like it'd be cool to do in conjuncture with FSS+. It's a quest chain diving deeper into what Cold really means and so maybe we can bring the Arts closer together by broadening our understanding. If we want to incorporate themes of Inevitability, Endings and Renewal in FSS+ this might be the opportunity to broach those ideas and their place in UGM before we actually begin creating the Art. Plus we'll probably want to progress the Winter's Heart Trait as far as possible for FSS+ and Ice Diplomacy
Definetly want this now, given that we intend FSS+ as soon as possible

It also works well with Hanyi's performance

Lastly, either phantasamal mastery or Xiangmen will be great I think

The Opened Vault: Ten thousand Locks and not one to stop you. Learn the lessons of the first thief, whom no vault or security could stop. Acquire the Thief of Winds technique, which allows you to interact with and steal from dimensional storage and bypass many forms of security. Advances Vanishing by 1. Advances Want project by one. (0/5)

Okay we have to get this at some point. Maybe not immediately, I agree with the other comments that we really should invest in some more offense. But really, come on we need this. It lets go rob acquire more resources and if we are going spymaster route then this is definitely a necessary technique. Plus the thief scenes were some of my favorite form Forge.

Right, where are you guys finding the bonuses to projects?

I see that each of our spirits gives a +1 bonus to the corresponding concepts and I assume that means if we go for projects with those concepts we get a +1 advancement bonus. Where are the rest? If someone has a spreadsheet/list of the total bonuses that they could share I would really appreciate that.

You can find most of our bonuses under the cultivation traits tab of our newly updated character sheet. @Erebeal already made a spreadsheet and you can find an older version in this post here:

Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny) Original - Users' Choice!

Alright, I have a whole pile of thoughts on armor arts, but more immediate issues I think are systems commentary. Firstly, lets look at cultivation bonuses and keywords: Green here are the bonuses that apply to each art. Yellow are places where I feel the bonus should apply, but the art...
He has released an updated version in the discord but hasn't posted it here yet.

Hello, More questions from reading through the new front page.

1) I found this on the new front page:
Fang's Blessed:
+1 Bonus Success to Power based Cultivation Projects

What is this? Is this from the bloody moon failed quest, the one with the memory of the forest lords fighting?

2) what is breakthrough. I put a command F through the front page but still didn't find anything.
Smooth Ascension:
Breakthrough value Increases by 5

3) We still have a basic storage ring. Based on the last story chapter where the dreaming idol took up a lot of room because it had a lot of metaphysical weight we may soon run into storage limit problems. Do you think we could get a better one? I assume we stole the current one (we stole pretty much all our stuff that wasn't gifts from friends, elders, or Greater spirits now that I think about it) so I have no idea how expensive they are but it is the sort of thing that's worth investing in.

4) We know it is possible to 'awaken' Ling Qi's gown (from Shensua's apprentice). Or rather the gowns spirit is still a baby. Do we have any timeline on when the gown will become more and if there is anything we can do to support/speedup that process? I was just rereading the original Wind Thief story and the final scene with our gown stress eating our bed sheets (for reason I found this both cute and hilarious) and wanted to know if there was any follow up for this.

I'll try my best to answer this.
1) yes it's from the bloody moon dream. With the new system the bonus it gave us actually became useful.
2) A breakthrough is the breakthrough to the next realm. It's gonna be easier for us to get to cyan which is nice because that breakthrough can be deadly.
3) we did take it after a duel and we probably should invest in a better one eventually.
4) Lin Hai (the apprentice in question) said that it is just waiting on us to reach G6 and Bronze 6 to awaken. So we just need to cultivate more though we are planning on feeding it the remains of Hui Peng's robe to see what happens.

Current bonuses as far as I know... assuming they haven't been edited again since last night:

Basically we don't have any problems on anything other than MoSS, BKSD, and SNR - who will also all be fine with one site bonus applied to them at current requirements. Progress is pretty easy atm. Outside of meridians anyway.

Kindle the Hearth bc Zhengui. Yrs said on Discord that he bank the XP for Community projects and if we build up enough, LQ will probably have an epiphany or something and then Community will be unlocked. So let's finish modifying WHR!
I was initially thinking that, but @AbeoLogos convinced me it's a bad idea. Kindle the Hearth is kind of bad as a tech for us - blowing up our defensive layers and IFF for the sake of a dispel is pretty meh. Especially since dispels are something we have other people for. And I kinda want to see how the arc is going to resolve itself without us sticking our oar in? Like, Kindle the Hearth looks like the Zhengui/WHR modding project, but if it is an intrinsic part of the arc we voted for then shouldn't it be locked in?

Wait so you're saying we should just drop Winter Hearth Resounding completely or what?

Wait so you're saying we should just drop Winter Hearth Resounding completely or what?
I'm saying Kindle the Hearth looks meh as an option for us, and I'm not inclined towards it. Like, if all we want is ++Community we a) have lots of better art projects that give that, and b) can always cultivate the concept directly.

Also, why is only Community blocked? What about Want or Power? They were involved too! :p
I think that tracks, actually. We know from Jiao's interlude in RR that he stopped advancing not because he can't make the attempt, but because if he tries to go further his heart demon will turn into a Way break and kill him.

In the abstract, Ling Qi's heart demon is a conflict between Community and Want/Power, but the pattern before its revelation was Ling Qi prioritizing Want/Power at the expense of Community (and not realizing that she was doing so.) It was only when she tried delaying Want/Power for the sake of Community that she realized there was a problem.

Therefore, since Ling Qi had already been neglecting Community for the sake of Want/Power, it follows that she could choose to ignore the revelation and continue doing so - nothing says that a heart demon must get better, after all.

This also maps nicely to Jiao's situation. He had Justice and Loyalty - or something along those lines - together for centuries with no problems until Empress Xiang made him choose between them. Jiao chose Justice, so now Justice is blocking Loyalty. (If he had stayed at the MoI, it would presumably be the other way around.) Now Loyalty can't advance, but he can't leave it behind because it's a fundamental part of himself and he can't change the Concepts because he's Prism, so he has to stop advancing or his imbalanced Way will collapse.

(Open questions: how much of an imbalance is required? Is there less margin for error at higher realms? It can't just be the imbalance between only the blocked and blocking Concepts or else Jiao could just abandon both Loyalty and Justice, but is an imbalance between blocked and blocking Concepts worse than an imbalance between the blocked Concept and non-blocking Concepts?)

For Ling Qi, it would be even worse - she can't stop advancing, so if she eventually discovers a truly irreconcilable conflict in her Way, she may have no choice but to cultivate herself to death.

That also suggests that a balanced spread of choices and actions is best for detecting heart demons before they get too bad, because the means of finding out that one Concept is blocking another is to try doing something with the blocked Concept that would contradict the blocking Concept(s). Alternatively, being consciously aware that you're being forced to choose between Concepts may do the same thing.

We also already started meditating on a way to modify WHR and connecting that with our heart demon and how it relates to Zhengui. LQ made a teeny bit progress there in discussing the mother/son thing with him. What about the garden project? There are other projects with Home, not Community. Home also works in this case I think. If not Kindle the Hearth, should we use Winter Reinforcement (which strengthens constructs just the way our modified-WHR is supposed to do to Zhengui's constructs and our own)? Should we use Release of Spring which sounds very garden-like?

If I were to do any WHR rn, I'd probably go for Release of Spring, yeah. Kinda just feels most appropriate to the end of the year :p

Also our armor is honestly doing fine.

With all of these cool system changes and interesting projects, I haven't seen much talk about the real stars of this month. The Argent Peak Outer Sect Competitors!

Take your bets, bite your nails with anxiety, and revel in the glorious competition of the best from the Argent Peak Outer Sect members. Especially in an auspicious year where enemies of the Empire are being driven back and interesting geo-political projects are being initiated. Come one, come all, Ladies and Gentlemen, to the most fabulous show this month!

Our premier contestant is Gan Guangli, for while he was breaking through stages in the green realm despite the pittance of resources allowed to outer sect members, he has also kept hold of the Illustrious Cai Renxiang's organization which formed under her direction when she was an outer sect student. Recently coming back from an expedition beyond the ends of the known world, carrying spoils of his travels in a shimmering cape, it will be a sight to see him strive to crush the competition as he seeks to erase his past failures with future successes! His known capabilities include increasing his size to dwarf even the tallest of mortals, a powerful domain weapon, vast skill in hand-to-hand combat along with a distinct mind for tactical maneuverings, and, if the rumors are to be believed, an insubstantial spirit. Will these tools be enough to overcome the stiff competition this year? Make sure your answer to this question is known by placing your bets now!

Speaking of stiff competition, a brave scion of the Han, Han Jian, is in attendance as well! Breaking fully into the green realm, this student of the Argent ways demonstrated commendable skill and virtue in the preliminary rounds of the tournament last year, only being stymied from entering the Inner Sect ranks by an unfortunate match up against the late Shen Hu. With armor gifted to him by Cai Renxiang for his efforts in suppressing troublesome elements to her order in the Outer Sect, a frightfully powerful tiger for a spirit companion, and mastery of the argent arts popularized by our very own Sect Head will Han Jian finally move to the ranks of the Inner Sect Members after this tournament? Take your bets and make your voice heard!

There is yet another Han in the running for the coveted eight spots, however! Han Fang, an adopted member of the Han family, made waves last tournament with his clever usage of stealth and opportunism to clear an incredibly difficult preliminary round. He met his match, though, with the rising powerhouse Ji Rong. That beating surely left him with an acute sense of his weaknesses. Taking the loss with grace and dignity, Han Fang has also broken fully into the green realm which only seems to place him on an even playing field for this tournament! Other members of the outer sect have indeed been able to confirm, however, that Han Fang has continued to work on his powerful thunder arts and seems to be accompanied by a spirit companion as well now! Observations have been fleeting, but we hope that such assistance is enough to realize his ambitions. So, what will it be? Will, Han Fan be the dark horse in this race, or will he be sidelined by the other competitors? Place your bets now to make your voice heard!

Speaking of the incredibly difficult preliminary round that Han Fang cleared, another fan favorite is ready to take the stage once again! The fabulous Lu Feng is more than ready to prove that his elimination in the preliminaries by Han Fang was a mere fluke of luck. Using potent arts from the Western Territories, this contestant can manipulate his opponent's very bodies to achieve victory, all while looking fantastic for the fans! As a leader of a faction opposing Gan Guangli's faction in the Outer Sect, he has regularly fought both Gan Guangli and other faction leaders to a standstill, and, given his disposition to hide aces up his sleeves, it is likely he has kept something in reserve to display during the tournament itself! So, what will it be gentle readers? Will Lu Feng get his grudge match against Han Fang? Will Lu Feng claim one of the coveted eight spots for the Inner Sect? Support this fan-favorite with your bets!

Where Lu Feng may be a fan-favorite, the next contestant is anything but! Facing a humiliating defeat against a rising name in the Emerald Sea political landscape, it was feared that Chu Song may never recover emotionally. That can not be further from the truth, however! We suspect. It has actually been incredibly difficult to get information on Chu Song's whereabouts or activities. She is an incredibly strong combatant, despite her lackluster showing in previous tournaments, and promises to deliver terrible wrath to any who stand in the way of her goal to reach the Inner Sect. Unlike most notables in this competition though, this tournament is Chu Song's last chance and so she is likely to lay everything on the line to win. While not a favorite due to a lack of information, the savvy better will see that despite her strength, the odds are against her. So, what do you say? Go ahead and take a risk and get the chance for a big payout by placing money on Chu Song for this competition!

While this may be Chu Song's final chance to impress, the next competitor is getting ready for her first appearance on the big stage. Xiao Fen, a scion of the formidable Bai, has been making herself a terror across the outer sect this past year. With the capabilities of stealth that rival Han Fang's, and maybe surpasses it, she also brings to the table viciously brutal hand-to-hand skills and powerful techniques from the Bai archives. While younger than all the other notables, it would be wise to not underestimate this viper. Striking a peculiar association with Gan Guangli during her stay in the sect, she has been seen crushing any opposition to the Cai built organization in the Outer Sect with ruthless efficiency. Numerous reports of broken bones follow her wherever she goes. It is a sure thing that whoever she is up against will not be leaving the stage without a tremendous amount of pain inflicted upon them, either as the winner or loser. So, who wants to place bets on this little viper's chances of making it to the top eight, or beyond?

And these are only the notables for this tournament! As proven last year, even those without much history or notoriety can make a showing and possibly knock out one of these top contenders. We also have individuals from the Cai and the Sun faction of the Outer Sect who have climbed up into the third realm, making them serious threats against these top nominations. In this great tournament, who will show the will and the skill to reach past their competitors and seize a spot in the inner sect! Who will realize their ambitions and who will be left behind to stew in their own inadequacies! They've had an entire year to prepare for this single tournament, so let's give them all a cheer!

I agree with most of your spreadsheet but I was assuming that bonuses from the same source would double up. For example SSC is a Moon and Yin art (1st column) so I was adding 4 there instead of 2. Why doesn't it work like that?

Because it's a single bonus. Traditionally, when a bonus is to be allowed to work like that it's a separate bonus.

e.g. Sixiang's old bonuses:
+ .2 Multiplier to Music, Moon Art cultivation
+ .2 Multiplier to Wind Art Cultivation

If you just added all the conditions in a single bonus, there'd be no reason to split up the lines here.

A Music or Moon Art gets +.2; a Wind Art gets +.2; A Wind and Music Art gets +.4; but a Moon and Music Art only gets a +.2, because meeting multiple conditions for a single bonus still only turns the bonus on once.
