Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

Well, that was a fun update! Who would have thought that in less than a year after joining the Inner Sect, Ling Qi would be a linchpin in multi-cultural and polity diplomatic efforts while reaching a state of mutual trust with her counterpart from the other nation.

Now that at least some semblance of trust has been established, we can hope that further negotiations will proceed smoothly and we can really hammer home the cultural argument for at least a non-aggression pact.

It'll be an interesting time in the near future!

I think you might be mixing the interlude where Jiao is purging the rest of the Sima clan (Settling Pains in the sidestories) where he severs all his family bonds but can't bring himself to do the same to Xin, with this conversation between Ling Qi and Elder Ying back in Forge week 24:

I found the quote from the interlude:
"But his emperor had been clear. Not Xiang. Never Xiang. It had been his last command to Jiao before he had stepped into the White realm, and cast aside personal bonds."

I'm not sure it changes much and it has already been pointed out all high realm cultivators are so unique that what is true here may not be so for anyone else, but still it is interesting. Someone mentioned that the Fisherman, Diviner, etc. who started relationships with Divine Ancestors may show what a bond between spirits and White realms would look like. Not so much a distinct spiritual bond where generally the human is in charge (since imperial cultivators don't seem to choose or attempt to bond with spirits more powerful than themselves) but instead a more familial bond. It could be that Ling Qi might be able to keep her bonds with spirits if she considers them to family (which is exactly where her way leads now) or rather she could define family as part of her Way and thus not have to leave them behind.

Sixiang might be interesting because she's formed out of Ling Qi's own dreams. I've been waiting for that to have a deeper effect, the fact Sixiang isn't some random moon spirit she found but one formed out Ling Qi's dreams for her by the Moon.

Sixiang was dubious of the idea that we will leave behind our friends and family as a result of our way.

Its a little frustrating that Ling Qi didn't follow up that with anything.

You know they would be worried, but that's because they themselves have this attitude, the same thing we saw in Jaromila's story, that the least slight must be repaid 100 times over and that nobody is allowed to let anything go, ever.

Contrast to Ling Qi's feelings that she'd prefer to move on and never think about those people again. And you know what, being able to have that attitude makes Linq Qi a good emissary in ForgeLand! No wonder Renxiang started to reconsider Ling Qi's role. A shadow and sneak is great, but you know what's better? A representative you can send out on missions who doesn't have a Way that forces them to obsess over every insult. Being able to Let Shit Go is a good talent to have.
They are going to be in trouble if we ever are back in the city for whatever reason.
