[X] Be friendly, show her around and introduce her to your spirits. They will be members of the party too.

"Hallo new frien" is a very Ling Qi thing to do. Even if it doesn't go well, let it not be said we didn't make the effort to meet new people.

[X] Keep things formal between you, show her around the Sect and discuss the mission and expectations, perhaps have a spar?

I wanna fight her.

Oh, a random note that people might find hilarious or humanizing, a winding road is not a perfectly uniform length. It's edges will be different lengths from it's center, meaning that the hundred soldiers cannot maintain both perfect formation and synchronicity while travelling on the same road. If they maintain perfect synchronicity, then the soldiers on the outside of the formation will fall slightly behind or ahead, as they will have traveled a longer or shorter road than those in the center. If they maintain perfect formation than the horses on the outside must increase and decrease their speed as they take corners, causing their hoofbeats to fall out of sync with the others in the formation.

This means for the unit to have both perfect formation and synchronicity as they reached the Sect town, the moment they hit the last straightaway the group had to immediately fall into formation and then synchronicity... simply for the purpose of appearing to have always had perfect formation and synchronicity. It's an interesting vanity that's easy to miss if you don't think super hard.

That's one possibility, but we're talking about Cultivators, here.

It's entirely possible they used an Art to redefine distances such that they can go down a winding road in perfect formation and synchronicity - for the appearance of always having perfect formation and synchronicity.

i'm open to being swayed if a good enough argument pops up though.

Not literally every character we meet needs or should be our friend. Do we even know where the Xia fall on the political spectrum with regards to relating to spirits? We've literally just met this person. There will be time to be friendly later once we've taken her measure, and it's not like there won't be some introduction in the course of a spar.

I know we've very much driven Ling Qi to be a social butterfly, but that doesn't mean we need overshare with complete strangers.

But that's still the same kind of vanity on display, only moreso, because now the "appearance of perfection, in spite of the reality of harmless imperfection" is being enforced by active effort that would exceed the costs of energy doing it literally any other way, including just making sure that all curves in a road are mirrored to equalize all lengths across the cross section.

Probably, yeah.

Though I wouldn't care to bet the theoretical Art in question has no applications that might apply when, say, marching over enemy-held terrain - where you can't control the construction of the roads, and the, mmm, metaphysical significance of the synchronicity might be at its most important, because it's when it'll most likely be opposed by said enemy's own Arts.

Do you think Alingge would know whats up with the facial marking/lines/scars? do we have time to ask her later ?

or not, this can be training for our interpretation skills when we see weird thing in the ice people faces heh.

Something we don't seem to be considering is Meizhan's presence. Even if she is our friend she can't afford to be informally friendly with us in public. She can only really 'let her hair down' with us, CRX, and Xiao Fen and she might be willing to be a little less formal with us around people who were around us in the outer sect or are otherwise trustworthy like Gu Xiulan, Li Suyin, Su Ling, and Gan Guangli. Xia Lin doesn't meet those criteria, we'd be putting Meizhan in an awkward position.

Just want people to remember that Meizhen will also be in this interaction however you want to take that.
I guess I took to long, beat me to it.
