[X] To appeal to culture. She spoke a variant of the hill tribe tongue, and bore other markers of civilization. Better to bring into the fold as the Weilu and the Xi once did. (+Meng, +Luo approval, -Diao approval)

Also the culture option is essentially talking about conquering and subjugating the White Sky people, colonizing their land and forcing the Empire's "superior" ways onto these people b/c they should be "enlightened" and brought into the fold. Yeah typical colonialism.

Yeah, colonialism sucks for sure. It's not about what's right, though, it's about what's feasible.

When the bar is physical genocide, cultural genocide is a lot more palatable.

This option seems to be the closest to advertise our original role as the bridge between Cai Renxiang and the traditional clans.

Except with the trade option, there wouldn't be genocide?? Like I took the profit option to mean opening trade routes. Which could not happen if we were to kill them all.
Anyway, I'm approval voting b/c the military option seems more realistic than culture option--I mean going all the way down to what is basically the South Pole in what has been described to be extremely inhospitable, impenetrable lands isn't realistic. I think the military option will end up with the White Sky as an enemy to keep an eye on but not one to be fought b/c...its logistically very unlikely for several reasons.

[X] To appeal to military pragmatism. If their enemies were divided there was no need to unite them. (+Wang, +Jia approval, -Meng approval)
[X] To appeal to profit. If there is another force out there civilizing the southernmost tribes, perhaps there is gain to be had? (+Bao, +Diao approval, -Wang approval)

Because this seems more along the lines of Ling Qi proactively trying to make changes she wants to see, and in general is a continuation of plot thread from the SongSeeker moon adventure.

Also there is something to say about Ling Qi making her introduction to court be about bringing up something that she is unlikely to see to completion within her lifetime even if she made it to White. :V

Diao are ambitious imperial reformers like lady Cai, and assisted in the overthrowing of one Ducal clan already. As an ambitious trade magnate, I'm certain they factored in the potential for Cai clan to not be viable long term. The potential for them to fold into Diao as they ascended.

Renxiang would not brook that sort of folding-into.
GG is unhappy with Linqin due to Lingqin's dislike of Renxiang.

I am fine with Shenhua's successor's court being quite at odds with Diao clan purely on the back of Linqin's dislike of Renxiang.
Diao clan really should not be surprised that their head's constant disdain for Renxiang splashes back onto them.

As for the Cultural Genocide, that's Wang. He talked about the harsh re-education and the breaking of cloud tribe people into imperial molds. If that's an option, it's the militant one. The "Old Tribes" factions of Emerald Seas are olddd. As we can see with Xiangmen, this province had a deep history. Pre-Weilu history. Pre-Diviner history. Pre-Sage history.

Bringing in cultures while allowing them to protect their identity. It's part of why Emerald Seas has always been disunited and incoherent. Unlike Bai, Zheng and Heavenly Peaks, nobody ever united Emerald Seas completely.

I personally really like that, but it's bad for military ambitions tbh xP

Are you saying that the Old Tribes were brought in peacefully, completely allowed to keep their cultural identity and were just trusted to follow the Empire? B/c Iicr peaceful assimilation never happened? They were conquered, not given a choice...unless I'm mistaken...

I don't think the Empire can conquer and subjugate them. They are on the far side of the Cloud Tribe territory and we have no way of projecting force over that distance. Without conquering the Cloud Tribes (who have survived the hostile Empire for untold generations) even talking to them is going to be difficult. We will not be able to incorporate them into the Empire for thousands of years, even if they for some reason gave us their complete and undivided assistance in doing so.

Heirs to clans are usually chosen based on their talent for cultivation. CRX is the duchess' first child but that does not guarantee that she will inherit.

We could also make an argument that if we get the Diao to neutral we can act as the diplomatic bridge between the Diao and CRX later on.

I got convinced. Plus I realised we can make our province into Ankh-Morpork (Which it kind of is already)

Overall we are a little kid and it shouldn't matter too much if we anger any clan (for now).
