Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

I don't think were tipping the scales being present and if our peers who will be much better tangoing with the Higher Realm cloud barbs need to be evac'd by us something has gone seriously wrong
This is actually incorrect

Both Ling Qi and Renxiang are highly mobile and individually superlative Command Type combatants with excellent buff suits to stack further on top of what everyone else will have, while bringing widespread defensive and dispelling options to counter Cloud barbarian attempts to ramp up in the initial scrum

Basically

Ling Qi and Renxiang let the buff stacking meta shift further towards the Sect forces in the starting stages, which gives Liao Zhu space to work in ganking those that he can hit

It's pretty decisive

Additionally

If the Ice Maidens are present on the caldera battlefield at any point it'll give Zhengui and Hanyi space to be relevant

Zhengui is genuinely awful to deal with against an ice user due to proximity to Hanyi and Ling Qi inevitably giving him narrative resistance to their particular stunts

Okay. I think we need to clarify how bad we think the surprise is going to be.

Lightest surprise that still is trouble would be the "Barb reinforcements approach from an obtuse direction." surprise. Those in the sweeper positions are most likely to have strong movement arts, or competent stealth arts.

I think the heaviest surprise that's still reasonable is for the mountain to not be a ritual sight but a hollowed out mountain swarming with shishigui on the inside. Bait the Sect into engaging in the Caldera and then have the Shishigui erupt out and kill many. Barbs purpose is to show up with reinforcements to secure the retreat route for the Tribes, as well as kill/maim any isolated imperials opportunistically.

I think ice-ladies being involved at all with this is silly. I was hoping to get intel on the ice-ladies plot thread, not actually encounter them.

I believe the Shishigui make much more sense showing up here, especially with the worries about "how did they kill Guan Zhou".

If this is going to go to shit I would rather have as many allies nearby as possible. If the bulk of our strength is being committed to the caldera, that just means we can potentially save more of the named characters if shit goes full sideways.

Lets finally use our Buff Stacks in a bigger engagement, along with Zhengui's ability to be a mobile fortification.

[X] Join the southern perimeter group

This positions us better for the inevitable surprise, while playing to strengths other disciples are less likely to be strong in.

Plus, the assault, while super tempting in terms of getting a close look at the ritual site, seems like a scene that's much much harder to write, with tons more moving pieces, and more likely to not showcase Ling Qi and Cai Renxiang teamwork all that well. And just beating people up is kind of boring.

I think we'd be better at it than tarpitting escapees. Because we can't be everywhere on the perimeter, but the caldera is a chokepoint.

"Regardless, we may investigate after we have broken them, yes?" Diao Gen said lightly. It earned him a smattering of polite laughter. "For our purposes, the assault will be split into two groups. One will strike directly against the foe, and the other will encircle the southern end of the battlespace, to catch those who flee. I will lead the perimeter group, and Sect Sister Guan will lead the assault. And, should they flee east, west or north…"

"They will find my brothers and sisters waiting," Elder Yongrui said cheerfully.
We don't need to be everywhere on the perimeter just the Southern one and we'll have backup as well, the Elder's siblings will be waiting on the Western, Northern, and Eastern perimeters respectively.

I feel like I've forgotten a whole bunch of shit. Who's this supposed to be?

I might be making a leap, but from the interludes I thought there was a legend of a fallen star, that we'd kinda tied to the corrupted mountain we fought. There was also the cloud barbarian Khans meeting where the implication was that there daughter of a powerful, evil spirit to the south was being brought in.

Personally, I think we are about to crash a wedding and have the bride spank us on the way out.
