Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

no the southern spirit is an Ice Baba-Yaga-sorta-spirit. The Fallen Star is the radiation the uh "color out of space" sort of effect we saw on the mountain. We believe it to be more related to the Cloud Tribe than the Shishigui, but it could be a 4th faction.
IIRC, the fallen star was supposed to be really deep into the earth, so it'd make more sense if the shishigui are doing stuff with it than the Cloud Tribe.
Honestly, mostly I'm worried the assault has too much stuff going on, too fast, too close together. There's Ling Qi/spirits/Cai Renxiang teamwork to showcase. Plus all our sect allies fighting right next to us. There's the site and ritual stuff going on. Cloud Nomad reactions to track and keep track of. It's a lot of stuff all happening at once, and that just seems like a huge headache to write for.
Haven't you made this argument before with previous choices?

Do you guys think bai meizhen is in the underground defence mission ?
The bai's has great defence and is very good with toxins and cultivates earth 'geomance sites'
How would a fear domain affect the shishigue ? they are kind masochistic :V

I don't think were tipping the scales being present and if our peers who will be much better tangoing with the Higher Realm cloud barbs need to be evac'd by us something has gone seriously wrong
Thing is? "something has gone seriously wrong" has happened before.

Also, if we weren't going to be able to provide a meaningful combat assist on this one, we wouldn't have bothered to show up. We'd be somewhere else, doing something else where our contribution was meaningful.

Set Zhengui up on the high ground and use flight plus field effects to stop people who run into our range.
Zhengui being on on high ground still isn't particularly meaningful against flying enemies, and absolutely every Cloud Barb that makes it far enough for the perimeter to matter will be airborne. Our own field effects might do something, but his just won't. If we want him to contribute, it needs to be in a relatively constrained space, preferably catching his enemies on the ground... like using turtle drop from stealth as a surprise attack opener before the enemy has really figured out what's going on. If he can get roots in place quick enough to block even a few of the cloud barbs off from their steeds, that could make a big difference.

As for Zhengui, if nothing else, I think him acting as mobile jail for captured Nomads is plenty useful. Frees up us and nearby allies to run around again faster if we don't have to babysit the defeated. Another aspect to consider is whether the relative isolation of a spread out perimeter posting gives Ling Qi more space to... have a conversation with a captured Cloud Nomad, or something. Pretty sure if we fight at the caldera, Ling Qi will leave that to others entirely.
No one's taking significant numbers of cloud barbs prisoner in this fight. We're murdering them. It's possible that if some of them get incapacitated, we might interrogate them afterwards, but the idea of dragging them back to Zhengui so that he can serve as a jail is silly... especially since that still wouldn't prevent them from using whatever arts they might have.

I think I like this one more.
It's southern now; the vote option was edited.

It is meaningful, though, if they need to fly up to his elevation before they can start flying away. It means Zhen's projectiles have a shorter amount of time, and thus he's better able to serve as a flak cannon. That's my whole point about why the high ground is good: stick your AA there and there's no way for the barbs to get past without being in range.

Capture and interrogation is, like, a tertiary objective on this mission, but it is there.

And anyone Ling Qi drains to empty can be sat on for the rest of the combat, at least.

I wouldn't expect many or high-ranking captives, but I'd be surprised if we don't end up with a few.

I'm also going with the IC explanation. If Ling Qi is all like "We'd be good at this" but then just...doesn't do that job it will kinda fall flat on reread, yeah?

Part of our mission is to gather intelligence and we wont get that by slaughtering them all.
Like I get we need prestige for CRX's mothers challenge but there has to be a line somewhere that this just isn't worth it and better used in capturing anyone fleeing instead and interrogating them.

Fighting is all well and good but why the hell are we even fighting for if this is all low level commanders that could be better not dead and milk them for information instead for an even better attack against the cloud tribes?

A caldera gotta be a wicked cultivation site right?
Almost certainly otherwise the cloud nomads wouldn't be doing a ritual in it, but considering something is interfering with Prisim tier divination from a fragment of a Great Spirit of the Hidden Moon... I'm somewhat expecting the site to be something of sufficient significance for a Great Spirit of the Cloud Nomads that he/she/it has influence over it, which throws convention out the window in regards to what CN can do with it.

She might be. Good chance that one or both of the Bao are as well... primarily as crafters, but also perhaps with some trap prep.

That might matter if Zhengui was actually good as a flak cannon. He's not particularly, though. It's not where his strength lies. He has two "shoot things at range" powers with no natural supporting arts. Worse yet - the better of the two comes with splash damage, which means that it's more about hitting tightly-packed enemies (say, those that have been constraiend by his roots) than it is about targeting individual flying dudes.

Capture and interrogation is, like, a tertiary objective on this mission, but it is there.

Anyone Ling Qi manages to willdrain all the way down can be left on the ground for easy later retrieval. I expect that we will wind up with some captives, who happen to be incapacitated before they die, and that we'll have a use for them... but the idea of trying to use Zhengui as a jail from the perimeter position implies that we're spending a *lot* more effort on them than we really should be.

Hrm? Oh, I'd been assuming from the point of view of assaulting the caldera, in which case sticking them under Zhengui is mostly a "prevent rescue" thing, and yeah, they'd just be the randos who got stuck in Ling Qi's tarpit and got drained out before she had the spare time to focus on them in particular.

If we're out on the perimeter, well, we should only be draining priority targets - because that's the kinda thing that takes time, during which other barbarians are going to be bypassing us and escaping if we're busy playing games.

Ling Qi's biggest weakness is that she's slow when it comes to tearing down targets. Kinda terrible for interception, that.

Were not going to be left alone on the southern perimeter Core Disciple Diao Gen will be leading the southern perimeter along with us and other disciples to capture the fleeing cloud tribe's, Zhengui can house the group for a fallback fortress and they shoot them with arrows while the flyers herd them and Diao does his thing.

We are a control cultivator, Cai is an anti-control cultivator. Point us at the biggest concentration of barbs. Cai smashes their organization, we keep the individuals from fleeing. Despite our mobility, we should be able to do more at the caldera than on the perimeter. That, and I want Zhengui on the volcano. :)
