Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
Winning the battle is nice but not actually our main task. Rather we want to kill or capture cloud barbarians, gather intel, and minimize losses.

By being on the perimeter we
1.) Make sure that we will capture plenty of barbarians and have them somewhere where they cannot be easily rescued.
2.) Provide another already established hardpoint for our own people to retreat to if things go wrong.
3.) Allow us to potentially dart in and save 4 people with our teleport (as our spirits and liege won't need slots). Being in the thick of things means we are basically guaranteed to get one person instead, but hopefully the Elder will intervene to help people get away in the case of a potential wipe.

It isn't glamorous but it will likely save some of our side's lives and make sure that the mission isn't a bust when the inevitable disaster happens. We would also be able to practice a little bit of scrying which would lead up nicely to learning a communication art.

Mainly because apart from the Cyans, Ling Qi and CRX are the only disciples capable of flight and that means are probably the best suited to it out of the whole group, barring the unknown Cyan disciple (Guan Zhi is in the main assault).

CRX and Ling Qi would certainly be very, very good at helping the troupes in the main assault, but it feels like their would be less of a need for them there.

...and leveraging the wide-area buffs/debuffs that Ling Qi, Zhengui, and Renxiang put out in the heart of the most intense fighting won't "save some of our side's lives"? I mean, sure, it's true. CRX and LQ would be a solid help to the task of defending the perimeter. They have flight, which very few others do, and LQ's a bit of a tarpit, which makes it hard to escape past her, and it's not like they would be worthless there. It's just that they'll be a lot more effective when their buffs and counterbuffs get applied across a close-packed intense battlespace. FVM alone means that fewer will escape from that scrum in the first place, effectively giving us captures.

Finally, "It isn't glamorous" is part of the issue. We want to maximize our impact. It'll help us get desperately needed sect points, and it'll get us cred with our classmates that is also needed. We're due an inevitable upset of some sort, but "disaster" is by no means guaranteed - we were told that this could be very good or very bad... and being in the primary assault gives us the best opportunity to try to swing it from the latter to the former, if need be.

In a field where we are going to be fighting against Cyans? Who would likely have AoE Dispels that would instantly trash LQ's fields and defenses strong enough that CRX can't casually blast them (or be able to Dispel things)? Our biggest feature is adding ~4 effective combatants (after halving for being lower Realm) to the Cyan fight for some multiattacker bonuses, being part of the buffchain, and being able to potentially negate some of their weakest attacks with Black Mirror... maybe. And, if we do knock someone out of the fight with our qi drain? When this goes to hell and we get beaten back the Cloud Nomads can just retrieve them.

Being in the heat of battle will not have us save lives (it will help people stay in the fight longer, but not save lives). This goes even moreso if something big happens and we have to GTFO immediately. That's not to say that going into middle of the fight means we won't be effective (and moreso than the weaker Greens) but it won't help us accomplish our objectives nearly as well. Low rank greens have more marginal effectiveness when it comes to supporting Cyans.

Edit: I just wanted to add that I expect this to be both very good and very bad simultaneously and doing our best to maintain the upside in the midst of the downside is important.

If I was the commanding officer in charge of this op this is where I'd place the powerful disruptor and her field controller shadow. Only reason we're getting a choice is the political awkwardness of telling CRX what to do I think.

Also wouldn't mind seeing what the diao core disciple apparently in charge of this is good at.

Based on all our experience fighting in multiple realm battles? The lower realms support the higher realms and basically break ties. The Cyans will fight the Cyans and the Greens will support their respective Cyans in their fight.
We just had an example of that not happening at all in the scouting mission, actually

Ling Qi and co only ever engaged Third realm or lower opponents
