Did Sun Shao get eaten by the Sunflower, managed to hold enough of a self together to impress/bargain with the Goddess, and then used THAT as a living lure to bait in the Bai and eat them too?
I'm reminded of a scene from a book or movie, I'm unsure which, where a grim-faced father brings his young, happy and trusting daughter into the basement to be sacrificed. Partway down the father burst into tears and the child innocently comforts him which makes the whole thing worse. Near the end, she keeps asking where they were, why was it so dark and that it smells in here. Until finally a knife is plunged with the phrase, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry," repeating over and over into the darkness."Grandpa," she began meeting sad green eyes that burned with inner fire. "Why are we here?
Exploration at least make Ling Qi indulge a part of her character that tends to be neglected because "it's not AP efficient".
Trying something new just to see how it works is the very soul of curiosity, and the main motivating factor behind the art modding lobby: we don't know how useful it will be for us in the future and want to get some hands-on experience.Exploration is something we need to do more of simply because what's the point of having the Hidden Moon as our patron if we're not going to indulge our curiosity more?
Low rolls on exploration are just "you found some stuff of minor value." See turn 2 for reference. And it's more entertaining for the quest too. I'd rather read a failed exploration roll than have yrsillar try to make art modding interesting.
Neat, but just a paragraph. Nothing of lasting importance.Their first foray turned into more of a hunting trip. The location she had chosen from the map was practically overrun with beasts. Well Ling Qi couldn't help but think that that was too strong a word. It had been a nesting ground for Hundred Year Cicadas, and after a few hours of swatting fist sized bugs with oversized jaws out of the air, she had gotten frustrated and just flooded the grove with mist. Her companion took care of the underground nests. Whatever site might have been there originally was gone, it's qi drained away by the insects, but the creatures cores and wings sold for a small sum, so it wasn't totally pointless.
...They probably would have gotten more if her mist phantasms hadn't shredded so many of them.

We explored again on turn 4.Maybe yrsillar could learn from that mistake and write cool stuff instead. It's awful that Turn 2 killed the idea of ever having the character explore.
We got a high roll as well later on that turn (which was great), but this is the low roll. You specifically said:Her wandering through the Sect lands proved profitable enough, she discovered a breathtaking series of cliffs, where wind spirits flew and played through funnel like holes worn in the rock, that made the land ring with natural music, and deeper in the mountains, she found an isolated basin, filled near to the brim with water, forming a crystal clear lake of unnatural stillness.
Few beasts were foolish enough to attack her now, so Ling Qi found herself gathering less disagreeable reagents as she traveled for later sale. It was a minor sum, hardly necessary with the windfall she had received for selling that disturbing mirror, but even so there was no point in waste if she had the opportunity.
Most of her time searching the Sects lands however was spent following the strange tingling sensation in the back of her mind that grew more potent every time she sat down to cultivate. She sought through one map marker after another, the first markers turned up a few crumbling ruins, little more than a few broken stones still laying in the same vicinity.
And my point is that the low rolls just aren't very interesting, whereas the bad-case result of art modding gives us more knowledge about how the process of customizing arts works, which pays off both OOC and IC.And it's more entertaining for the quest too. I'd rather read a failed exploration roll than have yrsillar try to make art modding interesting.
Super valid. After latest interlude I almost want something without lasting importance.
Grim. When I read it I was reminded of Nina from FMA, at least briefly anyway.
So, talking about Sun Liling, I feel that she will be much more willing to use that Sunflower Field tech that got her in trouble last time when she returns to the Sect. And given her new adoption, I think it will be much stronger and even more dangerous, even considering her progress in the Green realm. It'll be interesting to see how Meizhen will react to Sun now, and what measures the Bai will cook up to actually ensure that they can beat this new family that sprouted in the Red Garden.
I also wonder how much Zhengui will react to Liling. Given his own connection to growth and renewal, he might find such a presence threatening or discomforting. Especially given his own territorial mindset. It'll be fun to see Ling Qi's reaction if Zhengui starts acting the way he acts around Xuan Shi while being around Liling.
Assuming the person who leaves, is the person who arrived. She might also be much less willing to use such tech. This is a very traumatic experience that has shown that her entire worldview was a lie foisted upon her by her elders. Some degree of rebellion would make a lot of sense. People's reactions to trauma are very unpredictable.
[JK] Buy a happy birthday card for Sun Liling. After latest interlude I almost want something without lasting importance.
