Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

Empty Man is just what Han Jian is using to refer to the assassin, as he was Empty and without emotion. Probably a low level-ish cultivator who was directed by family to just see himself as a tool.
A cultivator whose Way involves being "Empty" or a "Void." Is my guess. Because then his domain entirely revolves around escaping things that are supposed to notice People. Passive formations And arts intended to detect threats, detect aggression, detect assassins, etc. will all fail because there is only the Empty Man. Is it a glaring blind spot? Yes, but it's a blind spot that requires someone have all but literally self-lobotomized to be able to complete a specific kind of task and a certain build to reach that point without imploding on themselves.

Basically, this is one of the Cultivator variants on the Faceless Men from Game of Thrones though I am certain there are plenty more different styles that get the same results.

so Han Jian is a force when he actually is motivated, and was able to successfully lobby for Han Fang's adoption in order to keep his promise despite the court and political fallout.

Xiulan is mad because he did it for his bro and then didn't do it for Xiulan, the Magnificent Beautiful Powerhouse too.

with some of the Han already turned against Han Jian's family . . sounds like that scuffle brewing in the East might end up with his branch being able to splinter off. He certainly is a very Yin sort of tiger. I would actually like to repair/advance that SL now, once Han Jian makes inner. Sounds like someone that might gain good insights from our Hustle energy. Like. He's not untalented, and his dad wants him to get strong and ambitious, he's just so . . . passive lol.

and as always, Han Fang is excellent. Not as talented, but extremely driven and devoted. I wonder if he has a spirit yet. We know of a court that is quite Thunderous. And I'm sure the performance could use a drummer . . . lololol. Nah. Cymbal player waiting for one big BANG.

I duno. Probably won't come up at all until they're Inner Sect. But I'm glad to remember the parts I liked about them :]
We already saw in Servant's Pride pt 1 that Fang is gonna get a spirit. Its being sent to the Sect from GF, it was implied that Han Jian lobbied hard enough to get it for him.

And then, to their mutual horror, Papa Han starts putting out feelers about arranging a marriage.

So far, the Han clan has been smart enough not to try providing any.

(The set of levers that the Han clan can pull to motivate Jian and the set of levers that'll turn Jian against the Han clan have significant overlap.)
They can't arrange a marriage proposal for LQ for the same reason the Xuan Generals can't now--they consider it too late, now that she's w/ CRX. She will undoubtedly be in the Cai's province most of the time, they would have to pair her off with someone they consider expendable enough to move to the Duchess' province, IICR. For nobles w/in ES, its different. For clans like the Bao, LQ is a perfectly fine, desirable marriage prospect.

I do wonder how much physical distance really matters to cultivator relationships once you reach Cyan and beyond.

Still quite a bit I would expect, especially since splitting yourself makes you weaker, and traveliglng would give your opponents opportunities to throw deniable operators against you, or the base you were traveling away from.
