So out of universe this version of the Hel Knight came about because I accidentally miss read the weapons loadout in the newest variant made by abominable. The standard version looks like this one but has fists and the arm medium lasers are instead located on the side of the arm.

With precision from @Forgothrax I commissioned MattPLOG to turn the unfinished Noctis 3d Model I made with input from the discord into some really amazing art. Overview:
The origin of the Beetle creation began after the end of the Clan invasion. With ORDI being the first to reverse engineer Clan technology it's members began making new machines to make full use of this new technology. The Aurigan Coalition was no different in this area however while the nation had gotten access to next generation Battlemechs thanks to the United ORDI Design Competition it lacked a mech to truly call it's own. Seeing an opportunity High Lady Kamea Arano commissioned Coalition Heavy Industry (CHI) to create the Coalitions first domestic battlemech.

Seeing the importance of this commission CHI put their best engineering team led by Jonathan Clark to work completing this project. Many on the team originally were expecting to be working on creating a pretty standard looking battlemech. Jonathan however had other ideas. You see, besides being an incredible engineer Jonathan is also a massive nerd with a deep love for alien invasion stories and ever since becoming an engineer he dreamed of bringing his passion to life.

So the day before the project was to start Jonathan took his team to the premier of the newest movie in the famous Invasion in the Deep Periphery series, a movie franchise all about a planet in the deep periphery getting invaded by aliens. Most of the team thought nothing of this event however the next day they would be majorly surprised when Jonathan told them that they were going to make the Aurigan Coalitions first battlemech be based on the aliens of the movie.

While the team was initially skeptical of the idea Jonathan proceeded to convince his team with an 2 hour long presentation on why using the aliens as inspiration was a good idea. And he ended up succeeding in convincing his team resulting in the strange and intimidating aesthetic of the modern day Beetle.

One of the Beetles defining features is it's neck, something that no mech before it had. This design choice was made on purpose so that the mech had the capability to fully detach it's head when an ejection was necessary, allowing the head to safely fly off into the distance.

However the team would encounter a major hurdle during the Beetle development. In recent years Helghan had re-introduced the concept of highly modular machines. These machines while not as flexible as Omni mechs benefited from not having to use podded weapons while still allowing for weapons to be easily removed for repair, maintenance or customization. However this new standard wasn't easily achieved with the team struggling to get the modularity the High Lady requested the machine to have. Janathan eventually had to contact a Helghan engineer he had met at a convention for assistance to finally get modularity to function properly.

While initially put off by the Beetles aesthetics Kamea ended up approving the mech for full production in 3059 after it completed it's trails and it quickly became a favorite machine for lance commanders do to the machines advanced communications systems.

Capabilities:
Even though the 50 ton A3-BTE Beetle is the Aurigan Coalitions first domestically created battlemech the mech is packed with advanced technology. The mech uses the latest and greatest in material technology being equipped with a Ultra-Light 2C Frame Clan grade Endo-Steel structure covered in 9 tons Nexus type 343 Clan grade Ferro-Fibrous giving it superb protection. Within the endo-steel structure lies a Solar Shine 200 rate Fusion Engine allowing the Beetle to have a walking speed of 43,2 km/h and a running speed 64,8 km/h supported by 4 exhaust jumper jumpjets which allow for jumps up to 120 meters. While this by no means fast it does make the Beetle quite mobile. For communication a Connection Point communication system is installed. This communication system is noted for it's excellent performance and allows commander to direct entire formations from the cockpit. Meanwhile for targeting the Beetle is equipped with the average 23B Snap Shot Targeting and Tracking System.

For weapons the A3-BTE is equipped with 2 Type 3 PLC Helghan Large Pulse Lasers with one being located in the left torso and the other being located in the center torso. These next generation Large Pulse Lasers have greatly extended range compared to those of the previous generation while retaining their increased accuracy and damage. To support the pulse lasers at close range in the left arm is located a Thunder Splitter X-Particle Projector Cannon. This newly developed close range focused PPC was chosen because of its lighter weight compared to a standard PPC and lesser heat production compared to the ER PPC alongside giving the Beetle the ability to more easily deal with shielded targets. To deal all the heat generated by this full energy weapon loadout 17 clan grade double heatsinks are installed which makes the mech completely heat neutral when walking or running but jumping and firing everything will cause a small amount of heat buildup the Mechwarrior needs to be aware of.

Variants:
B3-BTE: Introduced by the Capellan Confederation in 3060 the B3-BTE turns the Beetle from a mid to close range brawler into a long range sniper. Removing the original weaponry the B3-BTE instead installs 2 Ceres Arms C-II Smasher Clan grade ER PPC's one it the right arm and one in the left torso. These next gen PPC's have the same range as the ER PPC's of the Star League are slightly lighter and have more firepower. To make sure the PPC's hit there mark this Beetle variant has a Targeting Computer installed in the right torso. Using the left over tonnage a Chaff pod is installed in the left arm. This variant has the same 17 double heatsinks as the original.

C3-BTE: A Taurian modification of the B3-BTE introduced in 3062 the C3-BTE removes the left torso ER PPC, the targeting computer and all the jump jets for a Catastrophe Impact LB20-X Autocannon in the same location as the removed PPC. The LB20-X is fed by 4 tons of ammo 1 ton of which is located in the left torso with the rest being located in the left arm. To make sure this ammunition doesn't destroy the mech if it where to be detonated the internal structure is upgraded with clan CASE.

D3-BTE: Introduced by Majesty Metals and Manufacturing a few months after the B3-BTE, this Beetle is the Magistrates' take on turning this machine into a sniper. Like the B3-BTE all the original weapons are removed in their place is a Thunder Clap Gauss Rifle in the right arm fed by 3 tons of ammo and 3 Martell model HM Helghan Medium Lasers 2 of which are located in the left torso with the final one being in the center torso. However what really sets this Beetle apart from the rest is that it's equipped with a Null signature system making it incredibly difficult to detect when the system is active. To fit all this new equipment the total heatsink count is reduced to 12 however this is more than enough to allow the mech to jump and fire its entire arsenal without repercussions.

Next up is either a omake about Jaiden and Cobolt lance from Mechwarrior 5 clans and how they got capture by ORDI or the colaberation project between the Taurians and Canopions that resulted in the next 2 mechs I commisioned art for.

Rein Project
Rein Project the Taurian Concordat and Magistracy of Canopus future collaborative tech development program:

#Design

A collaborative effort between the Taurian Concordat and Magistracy of Canopus, the Rein project was created to strengthen relations alongside developing new technologies. The two participating nations sent some of their best minds to this project with the Taurian contingent being led by Samantha Stoning while the Canopus contingent was led by Abbie Payne. The project began in 3057 with no overall goal besides the aforementioned goals which caused the project to flounder for an entire year with not much progress being made either reverse engineer clan technology or developing new technology. So in 3058 Samatha conversed with her counterpart to come up with a solution. The solution they came up with was that the teams would work together to develop 2 prototype heavy battlemechs each with their own niche to make use of the new technology they were developing.

While both prototypes where incredibly expensive they did succeed in proving the viability of all the technologies used within them. Unexpectedly the Taurian and Canopian military overseers of the project where so impressed by the machines performance that they went to convince their superiors to have the prototypes be mass produced for ORDI forces. The task of mass producing these machines would be given to Majesty Metals and Manufacturing and Vandenberg Mechanized Industries.

Entering production in 3059 the newly christened Rein Ray and Rein Rex would be effective members of ORDI's ever growing domestically designed mech line up.



6D-RRX Rein Rex:

Overview:
The first mech the Rein team worked on going by the code name of Rex was focused on the recently developed Tactical Missile Launcher and the development on a new type of melee weapon. The Tactical Missile Launcher is a recent Helghan invention and an evolution of their Multi Missile launchers. The team chose the missile launcher because it was newly introduced and would work well for testing the mechs missile modularity.

Meanwhile the new melee weapons were focused on augmenting a melee weapons ability to disable an enemies internal systems even if it had a lot of armor left. The solution the team came up with was a pile bunker that used a solid ferrous nickel-iron alloy spike accelerated and retracted using electromagnets similar to a gauss rifle. This pile bunker was a complete success punching trough armor and doing internal damage upon impact however each use of the pile bunker does degrade the spike which can cause it to snap after too much use requiring replacement.

Both technologies proved themselves effective during testing and thus the Rex was considered a success by the design team and their military observers.

Capabilities:
The 70 ton Rein Rex is a highly flexible battlemech which depending on its ammunition can fulfill a verity of roles from close range brawler, to mid-range skirmisher to long range fire support. Within it's Earthwerks Rein Clan grade Endo-Steel structure lies a Magestries Flame Clan grade 350 XL Engine allowing the Rex to reach walking speeds up to 54,0 km/h and a running speed of 86,4 km/h. To protect this engine and structure are clad in 13.5 tons of S-Type 1 Standard Armor giving the Rex superb durability. Within the cockpit the mechwarrior piloting this mech makes use of a Magstrix Zeta targeting and tracking system and a Datacom 30 communication system for communication.

For weapons in both side torso's a HAM-12 ATM-12 is installed with 3 tons each protected by clan grade CASE. These highly versatile weapons allow the Rex to perform a variety of roles. To support the massive missile launchers 3 Martell Model HM Helghan Medium Lasers are installed into the left arm. These lasers are highly effective both at close range and long range thus pair very well with the ATM launchers. Meanwhile in the right arm a V1B Electric Pike Phile Bunker (retractable blade) is installed. This Phile Bunker is highly capable of piercing armor in melee combat and inflicting internal damage. To deal with all the heat generated 14 double heatsinks are installed allowing the Rex to fire all it's weapons without fear.

6M-RRX: Introduced in 3062 by Ceres Metals Industries the version of the Rex is converted into a long range support mech. The ATM's are switched out for 2 Sian-Ceres Bee swarm Clan grade LRM-20's with 3 tons of ammo protected by CASE. The Phile Bunker is also replaced with a Martell H1L Helghan Large Laser for even greater long range fire power. The 6M like the 6S only has 13 double heatsinks however that is still enough to fire it's long range weapons without any heat buildup. However to fit all of this the total armor had to be reduced to 12.5 tons.

Overview:
The other mech code named Ray was meant to test a system the Canopian team had been experimenting with on and off for the last 2 decades. This system is putting wings onto a mech to enhance its jumping and sinking capabilities. However the team had never gotten the system to work do to the materials they had being either too heavy or bulky. However with the recent insights into Clan structural materials the team was confident that with the help of the Taurians this time they could get the system to work.

Another thing tested with this prototype was the viability of hand held weapons. Inspired by the Omni tech of the clans the Ray would test out various interchangeable rifles that can be quickly mounted on and detached from the mech. The system proved to be a success though with some limitations like ammunition based rifles needing the ammunition in the rifle itself alongside the rifle needing to be connected to the mechs arm to power the energy weapon based rifles. Though this was achieved by having the arm have a special port where rifles could be plugged into to be powered by the mech fusion reactor.

Capabilities:
The 70 ton Rein Ray, unlike it's sibling, is a far more focused machine primarily being intended for skirmishing and sniping. Like it's sibling unit the Ray has a Earthwerks Rein Clan grade Endo-Steel structure surrounding a Magestries Flame Clan grade 350 XL Engine allowing the Ray to reach walking speeds up to 54,0 km/h and a running speed of 86,4 km/h. However to further augment the Ray's mobility it has 5 Solictice Trust Jumpjets which combined with the partial wing allows for jumps up to 180 meters. For protection 10 tons of C-type 1 Clan grade Ferro-Fibrous is installed on the mech which only give it moderate protection.

However this lack of protection is made up with its weapons. In the right arm the Ray wields a rifle with 2 Nemesis CPP Clan grade ER PPC's. These devastating weapons are perfect for the Ray allowing it to snipe targets from range while continuing to be on the move. The Rifle is supported by 3 Martell Model HM Helghan Medium Laser in the left arm just like its sibling. To make sure heat impacts the Ray as little as possible 15 clan double heatsinks are installed into the mech with 2 more being installed into the Rifle itself bringing up the total to 17. This alongside the partial wing which also helps dissipate heat allows the Ray to make a full jump and fire both PPC's without any heat buildup.

To make sure the Ray can actually hit it's targets while being on the move the Magstrix Zeta targeting and tracking system is linked to a targeting computer. For communication the Ray has the same Datacom 30 communication system.

Variants:
6M-RR: Designed as part of the Rein Project the 6M was designed to use a different rifle from the 5B. Instead of 2 ER PPC's 4 Solly Clan grade SRM-6's each with a ton of ammo protected by CASE are installed into the rifle. With the weight being freed up by the SRM-6's 3 Omnicron 4000PL Helghan Medium Pulse Lasers replace the original medium lasers. However this rifle doesn't have any additional heatsinks installed resulting in the total heatsinks to drop to 15. Which is still more than enough for this variant's purposes. Finally the total amount of armor is increased to 11.5 tons with the remaining weight. Though this armor is easily removable should this variant be changed to a 5B.

7P-RR: A more substantial redesign introduced in 3064 by Detroit Consolidated MechWorks the 7P removes the left arm mounted medium lasers and instead installs another Rifle port. This allows the 7P to dual wield 2 rifles with 3 Pulsar Flash MKII Helghan Medium Pulse Lasers each. To fill up the remaining tonnage in the main body 2 Solar Ray MK2 Helghan Medium Lasers and 2 Quasar Grazer MKII Helghan Small Pulse Lasers with 1 of each type in each side torso. Again no extra heatsinks are installed into the Rifles themselves resulting in 15 total double heatsinks. Like with the 6M the total armor is increased but only to 11 tons this time.

DY-1A Da Ying
Future Capellan Confederation 80 ton battlemech DY-1A Da Ying (Greater Hawk):

Overview:
During the 3040's the Capellan's Confederations military was in a sorry state. Having lost much of it's industrial capabilities after the 4th​ succession war the Confederation had struggled to rebuild it's military industrial complex especially in the category of Heavy and Assault forces. It was only after it joined ORDI and got assisted in rebuilding their industrial infrastructure the Confederations began to recover the capabilities to build large numbers of heavy and assault forces. However because most of the worlds that once built the said forces were lost along with the schematics to build their assets the confederation while having the ability to produce new heavy and assault units lacked designs to actually build. As such they began an endeavour to design new vehicles and mechs to produce. The first of these efforts were supplemented by the United ORDI Design competition which got the confederation 4 mechs to produce for the cost of developing one.

Another step to recovery would be made in 3049 with the introduction of the J4G-AR Jaguar however it was also around this time a problem began to emerge. Their new Jaguar was incredibly expensive and complicated to produce as such it couldn't be produced in large quantities. While the Lightshow was better in this regard it was focused on a specific role as such had somewhat limited combat applications. As such in 3054 the chancellor of the Capellan Confederation Tormano Liao commissioned Ceres Metal Industries to create a Assault mech design suitable for mass production. While advanced technology was permitted in the design it was to be kept to technology that was easy to produce as to not hinder mass production of the mech. However during development another requirement was added. The requirement being standardized modular weapons as had been introduced by Helghan in the last year.

It took CMI 3 years but in late 3057 they presented the chancellor with an 80 ton generalist assault mech. It's name was the DY-1A Da Ying or Greater Hawk. However that was not all as CMI had used the 3 years developing the Da Ying well and had developed a second variant known as the DY-1C which was ready for full production. The chancellor was more than impressed and ordered for production of both variants to start immediately.

Capabilities:
Designed after the longstanding Shadowhawk the DY-1A Da Ying is a 80 ton generalist assault class mech. Powered by a Dynamo 320 Standard Fusion Engine the Da Ying is able to reach walking speeds of 43,2 km/h and running speeds of 64,8 km/h. For the mechs frame the new Ceresplex V Clan Grade Endo-Steel is used freeing up weight for armor and weapons. Just like CMI's other mech the Xin Fengbao UStarSlab Ferro-Fibrous armor is used weighing 14 tons in total providing excellent protection. For electronics again like the Xin Fengbao a O/P 1000 targeting and tracking system is installed allowing for easy targeting of multiple opponents. However for the Communication systems a Garret T10-C is installed allowing for this mechs pilot to easily coordinate battles from within the cockpit.

For weapons in the left torso the heaviest weapon is installed, a Thunder Clap Gauss Rifle with 3 tons with ammo meaning it's unlikely to run out of ammo even in longer engagements. To support the Gauss Rifle 3 long ranged Martell model HM Helghan Medium Lasers are installed in each arm for 6 in total. Finally the final weapon installed is the newly developed HAM-6 Advanced Tactical Missile Launcher with 2 tons of ammo. This advanced launcher is licensed from the Helghan Republics Helghan State Arms who is currently the only manufacturer with the knowledge how this weapon works. All the explosive equipment onboard of the DY-1A is wrapped in a protective Clan CASE system preventing explosions from spreading beyond the location they are located in. Finally 13 Clan double heatsinks keep the mech cool in standard and hot conditions.

Variants:
DY-1C:
The second variant presented to the Chancellor in 3057 the DY-1C was designed specifically for commanders and because of that is more heavily equipped with long range weapons. In the right torso instead of a Gauss Rifle 2 Martell Model HPL Helghan Large Pulse Lasers are installed which while slightly lower range don't hinder it's capability to fight at long range while being far more accurate. To support the pulse lasers in the left torso 2 Sian-Ceres Tiger Clan grade LRM-15's are installed fed by 4 tons of ammo 2 of which are located in the left arm to make full use of the Clan grade CASE. Thanks to these launchers being of Clan grade they can be fired at close ranges. However even with being able to fire the missile launchers at close range it was decided to install 6 Martell model HS Helghan small lasers with 3 in each arm to provide more close range capabilities. To support all these weapons the DY-1C has 17 double heatsinks which are not enough to allow for constant alpha striking but do allow for bracketed fire to keep the mech cool. However in order to fit all the new equipment the bulky Ferro-Fibrous had to be switched out for 15.5 tons of Ceres Standard Armor.

DY-2A: Introduced by Pinard Protectorates Limited for the TDF in 3061 the DY-2A keeps the arm mounted lasers but replaces the torso mounted weapons with a right torso mounted Catastrophe Impact LB 20-X Autocannon fed by 3 tons of ammo 2 tons of which are located in the right arm. All that ammo is safely protected by Clan CASE. Which type of ammo is used depends on the Pilots preference. To make sure the devastating LB 20-X and the lasers hit's there target there is a targeting computer installed in the left torso. This variant has 13 Clan double heatsinks to keep the mech heat neutral. Having no need for Ferro-Fibrous this variant is clad in 15.5 tons of StarSlab-10 Standard armor.

DY-2D: Created by Ceres Metal Industries this variant was commissioned by the Alphard Republic in 3063 for their quickly growing military the Alphard National Army (ANA) and would be licensed by Alphard Arms Incorporated for domestic production in 3066. 2 of the arm mounted lasers are removed which frees up weight that allowed CMI to replace the Ferro-Fibrous with 16.5 tons of Catafract IIB Ferro-Lamellor armor which along with the Clan CASE greatly increasing the mechs durability. For weapons the Gauss Rifle is replaced with a Helghan grade Rapid Fire IU Ultra Autocannon 10 fed by 2 tons of ammo one of which is located in the right side torso and the other in the right arm. The ammo used is dependent on the Pilot. To support the UAC in the left torso is located a Cere Arms Warrior II Clan Grade ER PPC. To deal with the heat generated by this weapon loadout 15 double heatsinks are installed which isn't enough to fire all weapons continually but with proper heat management this is manageable.

Hundreds of people stand alongside the street looking upward to their sons and daughters returning home after the successful defense of the Rasalhague Republic. In the air confetti can be seen raining down as the Helghan Republic anthem plays and the people celebrate. They throw flowers and gifts up to the street some of which are picked up by the soldiers making the trip from the spaceport to the nearest military base. As the mechs pass the people the cheering becomes even louder however the MechWarrior piloting these machines keep their discipline and continue moving without delay. On there path they cross path with a monument for a conflict long past it seemingly saluting the passing soldiers. This day is a celebration for all. For the Helghan Republic's sons and daughters have returned home.

This moment was captured by at the time up and coming artist Matthew Logachev and was what inspired him to visit the worlds these soldiers fought on and would serve as inspiration for his future art like Rode the Smoke Jaguars.

Overview:

By 3056 ORDI's Clan technology reverse engineering efforts had begun bearing fruit. New clan grade equipment has begun entering full production and new designs are being introduced to take full advantage. Among the many projects to make use of the new technology Helghan would begin their own code named "Project Wall".

This project was commissioned by the Helghan Republic Armed Forces as a collaborative effort between all of the Republic's major mech manufacturers. The goal of Project Wall was to create a battlemech that would be the epitome of Helghans battlemech doctrine. Because of this the mech had to be highly durable, use newly developed technology, use the new modularity systems, be able to deal out a large amount of fire power while also being able to defend itself against jumping battle armor. The latter requirement was a lesson learned from the Clan invasion where Helghan mechs lacking hands would often be focused down by Elementals because they had difficulty removing the Battle Armor and would quickly take heavy damage from the Elementals or allies trying to get them off.

Project Wall would take a year before a working prototype was created using a combination of Helghan and Clan technology. And it was a disaster. The 65 ton mech's Clan ER PPC was drastically under shielded causing EM emissions to interfere with the mechs targeting system alongside the double heatsinks often having breakdowns unable to deal with the generated heat effectively. Finally the mechs newly developed Ferro-Lamellor armor was applied in too small an amount to properly protect the mechs extremely brittle Composite structure. The prototype code named Vanguard was rejected outright and an investigation was launched into how the project turned out so terribly.

As it turns out the reason for the disaster was because of a lack of defined vision. The head engineers from each company each had a very different idea of what the Vanguard was supposed to be and because of that often clashed and went behind each other's back to make changes to the design. However during the entire debacle there was a voice of reason. According to many on the project Mathew Garadon an engineer who worked on Detroit Consolidated MechWorks award winning Lightshow had continuously tried to keep the peace between the head engineers and championed compromise along with providing very competent changes to the design but went mostly ignored.

With the perpetrators found they were quickly removed from the project and because of his display of competence Mathew was put in charge. While initially inexperienced in the role of leadership he adjusted quickly. The first thing he did was throw out the original design completely and start from scratch believing that the Vanguard was unsavable. However now with a defined vision within 3 months the team had a new prototype ready. The new prototype was everything that Vanguard hadn't been. All its equipment worked as intended, the armor was thick enough to withstand pretty much anything without difficulty and the design was safer than ever thanks to the introduction of a full head ejection system. This prototype was codenamed the DFR-B3 Defender which would quickly become it's official designation as it was approved for full production in 3058.

The Defender would quickly become a favorite design of Helghans more reckless mechwarrior. With it's incredible durability these pilots could take risks with minimal risks allowing them to make daring moves that would often take their opponents off guard. It would also be exported in large quantities to the other ORDI states with the Alphard Republic importing the largest amount for their growing military. The incredible prominence of the Defender among ORDI forces would cause the Defender to be known less as a Helghan battlemech and more as an ORDI battlemech. All 3 manufacturers of the Defender would take full advantage of this in their marketing which sold the Defender as a representative of ORDI's ideals and motto.

Capabilities:
The end product of Project Wall, the 75 tons DFR-B3 Defender is the logical end point of the Helghan Republics battlemech doctrine of heavier mech focused on durability and fire power. Powered by the Hephaestus 300 Fusion Engine -the same engine used in Ogoun's Hades- this durable standard engine allows the Defender to reach a walking speed of 42,3 km/h and a running speed 64,8 km/h. To allow for even greater mobility 4 Exhaust Blast jumpjets are installed in the torso allowing for leaps up to 120 meters. Wrapped around the engine is a Solar Foundry Type-C Clan grade Endo-Steel frame freeing up weight for more equipment.

To protect the mech 16,5 tons of Guardian FL23 Ferro-Lamellor armor is installed. This recently developed armor is unique from other armor types by decreasing the impact of enemy weapons by 20% along with protecting the Defender from through armor critical damage while also providing a partial protection against Petrusite weaponry similarly to Hardened armor. The armor is also spread across the mech to make sure it's actuators are protected, preventing infantry or Battle Armor from easily damaging them. However should a Defender be to damaged to continue the pilot can safely eject which thanks to the Full head ejection system will send the entire head savely away from the enemy.

For weapons within in each of the arms is located a Particle Stream CII Clan grade ER PPC. However unlike with most battlemech instead of being located on the outside of the arm or being integrated into it unobstructed the Defenders ER PPC is located withing the mechs palm. When not in use or when having to use the hand the PPC barrel is mostly retracted in to the palm and when it needs to be fired the hand takes either a clawed or open palm position and the barrel is extended. The Defender is capable of firing the PPC in its retracted state but this is mostly reserved for when an battle armor has been grabbed and needs to be disposed of quickly. Speaking of the hands while they are clawed this is mostly for non-combat reasons. The claws make it easier for the defender to take hold of cargo and keep a good grip on them. This also had the unintended side effect of allowing them to keep a better grip on battle armor. The hand also has enough crushing power to crush an elemental in armor to death in 10 seconds. To make sure the Defender can grab a Battlearmor anywhere on it's body the arms have also been equipped with Hyper-Extending Actuators allowing the arms to flip into the mech rear arc.

For secondary weaponry in 4 Solar Ray MK2 Helghan grade Medium lasers are installed with 1 in each side torso and 2 in the center torso. Finally to deal with infantry a single Quasar Grazer Helghan grade Small Pulse Laser is located in the left torso. To deal with the heat generated from all the weapons 17 Clan grade double heatsinks are installed. While this doesn't allow for the Defender to alpha strike all the time it does allow for a full jump while firing both ER PPC's without gaining any heat or firing both ER PPC's and 2 medium lasers with very minimal heat buildup.

Finally for electronic systems the Defender has an even further layer of defense thanks to the Guardian ECM installed in the left torso making it more difficult to detect the mech or get a proper lock on it. For communications and targeting a Helghan Arms Electronics HBCS which does it's job admirably while the Pharoah Lockscreen allows for the Defender to consistently hit it's shots.

Variants:
VGD-X1 (Vanguard):
The Original Project Wall prototype the Vanguard was a failure by all estimations. Ten tons lighter than it's successor at 65 tons the Vanguard is equipped with the Hephaestus 260 Fusion Engine which allowed it to reach the same speeds as the Defender however this is where the similarities mostly end. The engine was cradled in a Solar Foundry Type 23-12 Composite Structure which was just as light as endo-steel without the increase in bulk; however this came at the cost of being far more brittle and maintenance intensive. This brittleness also wasn't helped by only 11 tons of Guardian FL23 Ferro-Lamellor armor being installed which was far too little for the mech's intended role.

For weapons in the left arm is located a Particle Stream CI prototype Clan grade ER PPC which as mentioned before was drastically undershielded causing EM Interference whenever it was fired which drastically impacted the accuracy of it's other weapons. Speaking of those weapons in the right arm were 2 P3 Quasar Flash Helghan grade Large Pulse lasers which are supported by the 2 P2 Pulsar Flash Helghan grade Medium Pulse lasers. Normally these lasers should be incredibly accurate however thanks to the EM Interference from the PPC they are far less accurate then they should be. To support all these weapons 21 prototype Clan grade Double Heatsinks are installed which were incredibly temperamental and would often not work properly causing the Vanguard to maintain much more heat than was intended.

Besides the Guardian ECM the Vanguards electronic systems were the same as those of Defender. The Vanguard was never approved for production however it's unknown what happened to the 3 test models that were produced for Project Wall.

DFR-B4: A close combat variant developed by Ogoun Heavy Industry in 3062 this variant of the Defender came about because pilots of the Defender among Taurian forces had a tendency to charge in to gain the attention of their targets instead of making full use of the Defenders long range arsenal. Because of this the ER PPC's were replaced by 2 Thunder Splitter X-PPC's -which were licensed from Coalition Heavy Industry- in the same locations. The rest of the weapons remained the same along with the 17 double heatsinks however because the X-PPC's produced far less heat then the ER PPC's it allowed the B4 to fire all it's weapons besides the small pulse laser while running without gaining any heat.

DFR-B5: Introduced by Helghan State Arms in 3063 this variant of the Defender is completely focused around using Petrusite. The original engine has been replaced by a Maridian 300 Irradiated Petrusite Reactor which allows the mech to reach walking speeds up to 64,8 km/h and running speeds up to 84,8 km/h.

For weapons 2 Hephaestus VC11D Improved Petrusite Cannons are located in the arms supported by 2 Hephaestus VCL2B Light Petrusite Cannons. Finally for even further protection a InvisiPro Mark I-M Shield Generator is installed in the right torso however to install the shield the Guardian ECM is removed. To sink away the heat generated 19 Clan grade double heatsinks are installed which is barely enough to keep the heat under control. However to make space for the heatsinks the Endo-Steel structure was replaced by a Solar Foundry Type-S standard structure. As a consequence of the structure switch the total armor had to be dropped to 16 tons however it remained Ferro-Lamellor.

DFR-D1: Introduced by Helghan State arms in 3065 this variant of the Defender was introduced specifically to use the UAC-4B10 Helghan grade Ultra Autocannon 10 which recently had several new special ammunitions introduced. The D1's Autocannon is fed by 3 tons of ammunition protected by a Clan grade CASE system. One ton of this ammunition was often reserved for special ammunition like the recently introduced Disruptor rounds. To support the Autocannon 4 P2 Pulsar Flash Helghan grade Medium Pulse lasers are installed with 1 in each arm's palm and 2 in the center torso. However to fit all this equipment the total armor was dropped to 16 tons like the B5.

Karolina Shinobu the Red Lotus:
Born December 12 of 3037 on the Draconis Combine planet of Sheliak II Karolina was born to a Rasalhague mother and a Combine father. Her mother Sandra -from whom Karolina would inherit her bright red hair color from- a had been a mech warrior who had remained loyal to the Combine after the Rasalhague military district gained independence from the Combine however in 3030 would be dishonorably discharged under suspicion of treason. Meanwhile her father Seiho had been a mech tech in the DCMS where he had met her mother and fell in love with her. After learning of Sandra's discharge Seiho would resign from the DCMS and together with Sandra settle on Sheliak II. Seiho would open a successful repair shop business which would expand across the world while Sandra joined the local police.

Karolina's first 12 years of life were rather uneventful living with her parents and brother. However this would change in 3049 with the invasion of the Clans. In a matter of months Sheliak II was under threat of invasion. Fearing for the lives of their children Seiho and Sandra would pull all the money and belongings they could get together and prepare for their family to flee the Clans. Karoline was of course confused when she was suddenly pulled along to the space port questioning her parents where they were going to which her parents didn't really answer.

Seiho and Sandra however had made the right decision as the moment their Dropship hit the vacuum of space they learned that Dropships belonging to Clan Snow Ravens Beta Galaxy had arrived in the system and were heading for Sheliak II. Thankfully for the family their dropship managed to make it to their jumpship and it jumped away before Clan aerospace fighters could secure both Jump points.

However even this didn't mean the family was save. For several months their dropships continued to flee the ever approaching Clans. Eventually by pure chance their jumpship ran across ORDI's Command Circuit which short on jumpships offered the jumpship captain a lucrative deal if it were to join the Circuit. The captain chose to accept the deal however had requested if it could first deliver it's payload of refugees somewhere safe. The Helghan logistics officer in charge of the sector would then direct the captain to deliver the refugees to the Helghan world of Detroit as that was the planet where he had to get the next shipment of supplies anyway.

A long journey later and the Shinobu family had finally arrived in space safe and far away from the clans. The family would then be held in one of the many refugee camps on Detroit for the remaining duration of the Invasion. It was here Karolina would gain a massive appreciation for the Helghan people as they did as much as they could to make her and her family comfortable and help integrate into Helghan society. Karolina and her family would eventually establish a stable life and become citizens of the Helghan Republic. However Karoline wanted to do more than just live a comfortable life. She wanted to give back to these people that had so gracefully taken them in like it was nothing.

So in 3055 when Karolina reached legal age to join the Helghan Republic Armed Forces she immediately did so. She would travel to Helghan and attend the Helghan Institute of Military sciences where she would take after her mother and study to become a mechwarrior. She would quickly be singled out as somewhat of a prodigy complete out pacing her class mates in simulations. She would become known for her fiery attitude taking no shit from anyone including her teachers which got her into trouble from time to time. Even with the occasional rough patch Karolina would graduate top of her class in late 3058 and gain her first commission as a private that same year and be stationed on Aquagea.

Being a mechwarrior prodigy Karolina would be assigned the brand new DFR-B3 Defender which ended fitting Karolina perfectly. She would have the Defender painted in a Red color for most of the body except for the right arm which would remain a standard metallic silver. For her first year of service she didn't see any action besides drills and practice, however this would change on new years eve of 3059 when Aquagea would come under assault.

The perpetrators of the attack would be a decently large mercenary company by the name of Deschenes Runners. The Runners targeted the under defended military base Karolina was stationed at with 3 lances of Battlemechs consisting of a mix between light to heavy mechs. Their goal being to quickly destroy the defenses before stealing as much military equipment they could find to sell to the highest bidder in the Innersphere. In a few short minutes the understaffed military bases peripheral defenses were overrun as most of the bases personnel were on leave for the new years celebrations.

However among the few who remained at the base would be Karolina who quickly sprang into action quickly organizing a battleplan with the remaining base staff before taking her Defender to engage the mercenaries as the bases only remaining mechwarrior. It would be the following battle that would solidify Karolina's reputation as a highly dangerous mechwarrior and earn her the nickname of Red Lotus as she gracefully destroyed every single one of the Runners battlemechs.

During the battle Karolina would use her now signature fighting style using her mechs jumpjets in mini hops to throw off her enemies aim while continuing to quickly close the distance firing her PPC's all the while. If she hadn't destroyed her enemy when she reached melee range she would quickly maneuver herself into the perfect position to grab her targets head with one of her mechs clawed hands -most often the right one- and using the other one to keep her them in place before firing the PPC in the hand that had grabbed the head quickly decapitating her enemy.

It took 30 minutes before the battle was over with 12 mech wrecks -7 of which were missing their heads- laying across the partially destroyed military base. Karoline however hadn't come out of the battle unscathed, her mech having lost its entire left side and along with major damage everywhere else. Karolina herself also had internal bleeding from a hit she had taken from a Hunchback that had knocked her through a hanger wall causing her to break some of her ribs from the impact. Karolina would need immediate treatment and surgery after the battle concluded. Thankfully she would make a full recovery and would reenter service 2 months later.

For her bravery Karolina would be given the Helghan Star for bravery along with a promotion to Corporal. Now corporal Karolina would continue to be stationed on Aquagea becoming a local celebrity even though she was very much uncomfortable with the fame.


AN: And that's the last of my future mechs after all I couldn't leave out Helghan for future mechs. Fun fact the Vanguard wasn't just a nice piece of lore it was originally what I wanted the Defender to be but I changed my mind but still wanted to use it for something so having it be a failed prototype fit really well I think. Overview:

Much like Red Breath, Operation Selene had been an excellent crucible with which to further hone the Republic war machine. With lessons studied and learned, a new generation of weapon systems would eventually find its way onto the battlefield.

Having established a long history of supplying cutting edge and reliable weaponry for the Republic tracing back to its inception, Ogoun Heavy Industries had also made a name for itself after having pioneered the Republic's first native battlemech design, the Titan. Over the years, they had slowly refined the Titan with more advanced production materials, weaponry, computer systems, and even design philosophies. This eventually culminated in a modern battlemech for the modern battlefield.

Despite the design's refinement, the Titan was still Helghans first attempt at a battlemech and this placed it at a disadvantage against the more refined battlemechs of the Innersphere. The Princeps existed as a successor of sorts to the Titan line and was much faster to produce, easier to maintain, and just faster in general meant that the Titan was quickly losing whatever special niche it could've laid a claim to. Not to mention the Republic's state-owned entity, Helghan State Arms, had recently announced the creation of two Assault-weight battlemech designs.

That other industrial competitors were looking to enter the field of battlemech design and manufacturing only served to light a fire under the company board. Responding to Republic High Command's long standing desire to field more powerful battlemechs, Ogoun submitted a simple heavy design with a convoluted design history.

The mech that would eventually be designated as the Raver would start out as a proposed solution to the problems that presented itself during the Marian campaign. Limited by interstellar distances and bottlenecked logistics, the military had expressed a desire for a machine that could operate on extended mission times while simultaneously requiring minimal maintenance frequency. While energy-based load-outs and double heat sinks helped solve this problem, standard wear and tear from frequent use continued to plague every iteration of the Raver.

One instance has the mech equipped with no less than three gravity control drives, taking inspiration from several unique Marauder prototypes tested during Selene. While they were eventually removed, at least two design teams were rumored to have kept copies of design blueprints and are said to be working on it during their off-time.

At the closing days of December 3041, OHI would finalize a more balanced design that met the military's requirements, integrating advancements in the field of Petrusite theory and application. Trials would begin during the first quarter of 3042 before the announcement of successful technological exchanges with the Capellan Confederation and the Niops Association subsequently put them to a temporary stop.

Taking advantage of two certain pieces of technology acquired from said exchanges, a 69th and truly final entry was submitted. This mech known as the RVR-69 Raver was everything the Helghan Republic Armed Forces had requested. It was durable, easy to maintain, easy to pilot and incredibly rugged perfect for long campaigns or campaigns where resupply would be difficult. Full production of the machine would be authorized and begin in September of 3042.

It wouldn't take long for the Raver to see it's first true test during the interventions that kicked off in 3046. All in all it served well in these conflicts, its speed allowing it to easily out maneuver it's enemies. This speed also allowed it to act as heavy support for lighter formations. It's ruggedness and easy to maintain nature also made it a favorite for many mech techs that worked on it.

However it would be the Clan invasion where the mech would truly be tested and some of it's flaws became more apparent. While the Ravers could easily out maneuver enemy Innersphere battlemechs when facing the Clans who's heavy Omnimechs moved at the same speed it did as standard it only equalized the playing field. Though even when the playing field was equalized the Raver performed well against it's clan opponents even gaining a rivalry with the most preeminent Clan heavy omnimech the Timberwolf.

Capabilities:
The design that proved Ogoun hadn't lost it's edge in battlemech designs the RVR-69 Raver is a relatively simple design that still uses some of the most advanced technology the Helghan Republic had access to during the 3040's. Powered by Hephaestus 375 XL fusion engine the RVR-69 this engine gives the capability to walk at speed of 54 km/h and running at speeds up to 86,4 km/h. However this speed comes at the cost of the engines size meaning should a side torso be destroyed the engine and the entire mech go with it.

To make sure the Raver was easy to produce and maintain a Solar Foundry Type-S standard structure is installed which is wrapped in 14.5 tons of Solar Guard Standard Armor which gives the Raver excellent protection for it's weight class. To further add to this defense a Rave-101 Laser Anti-Missile system is installed along with a Guardian ECM system.

The weapons of the Raver's were deliberately kept simple consisting of 11 Solar Ray MK2 Helghan grade Medium Lasers with 3 located in each arm, 3 being located in the left torso and the final 2 being located in the right torso. This complement of medium lasers is supported by a single Grazer Ray Helghan grade Small Laser in the right torso at close range. To deal with all the heat generated by all these lasers 19 double heatsinks are installed that allow the Raver to alphastrike while running as long as it's Anti-Missile system isn't active.

Finally for electronics systems, the RVR-69 is equipped with a Helghan Arms Electronics HBCS Communications system and a Pharoah Lockscreen linked to a Targeting Computer located in the left torso allowing the Raver to be more accurate with it's strikes.

Variants:
RVR-69S:
Introduced alongside the RVR-69 the RVR-69S was specifically designed to use the recently introduced miniaturized shield system. To facilitate the installation of the shield the XL engine was replaced with a Maridian 375 Irradiated Petrusite Reactor which allows the Raver to reach ridiculous speeds up to 75.6 km/h while walking and 108 km/h while running however this comes at the cost of the reactor itself being far more unstable. Alongside the engine being switched out the standard structure is replaced with a Solar Foundry Type-E Endo-Steel Structure -which is later replaced by the Type-C when Clan Endo-Steel is introduced-. Finally the Laser Anti-Missile system is removed as it was deemed unnecessary with a shield being installed. With those changes made the InvisiPro Mark I-M Shield Generator is installed into the right torso.

RVR-69B: Introduced in 3048 this variant was designed after complaints from Helghan Pilots that the standard Raver was too fragile thanks to the XL engine. In order to remedy this complaint the RVR-69B removed the XL engine and replaced it with a Hephaestus 300 Standard Engine allowing for walking speeds of 43,2 km/h and running speeds of 64,8 km/h. However with the engine it was also decided to switch up the Ravers weapon loadout. This was put to use by taking out the 2 medium lasers in the right torso along with the Laser Anti-Missile system and replacing it with a P2 Quasar Flash Helghan Large Pulse Lasers. Finally the total amount of double heatsinks is decreased to 18.

RVR-69NG: Introduced in 3058 this Raver is meant to be the next gen upgrade for the standard RVR-69 using reverse engineered Clan technology and new recently introduced Helghan technology. The old XL engine is upgraded to a Hephaestus MK2 375 Clan grade XL fusion engine. While this engine doesn't provide any speed increases it is quite a bit smaller than the original engine which resolves the biggest weakness of the original model that being the loss of a side torso would destroy the mech. The standard structure is also replaced by a Solar Foundry Type-C Clan grade Endo-Steel. This new structure allows for the Armor to be upgraded to 16 tons of Guardian FL23 Ferro-Lamellor allowing the Raver to take after the recently introduced DFR-B3 Defender in being incredibly durable. Finally some of the Ravers weapons also gain an upgrade. The left torso Laser Anti-Missile system is removed however medium lasers and small laser are upgraded to 2 P2 Pulsar Flash Helghan grade Medium Pulse lasers and 1 Quasar Grazer Helghan Grade Small Pulse Laser. These new weapons while having a lower range then the weapons they replaced make up for it by being far more accurate and having a significantly higher amount of firepower or in the small pulse lasers case is far more effective against infantry. Besides being upgraded to Clan Grade the double heatsinks remain the same as the standard model.

RVR-71: The RVR-71 was a Raver variant that had been in development at Ougon for quite a few years after the clan invasion and was introduced in 3061. This variant is designed to support the original RVR-69 and it's upgrades. The RVR-71 removes all but one medium laser -which remains in the right torso- and replaces them with 3 high firepower P3 Quasar Flash Helghan pattern Large Pulse Laser -which are located in the right arm, left arm and left torso- that open holes in enemy armor for the medium lasers of the RVR-69 to take advantage off. For armor the RVR-71 uses the same Ferro-Lamelor as the RVR-69C and in the same quantity. Finally some heatsinks are removed dropping the total to 17 which is more than enough to keep the heat under control.

Arno - Wolf Bait- Klauber:
By all accounts Arno is a very ordinary individual. Born on Helghan in 3017 Arno had a very simple early life though somewhat difficult life as a farmer on Helghan. He and his family worked the field and made sure people had food to eat on Helghan. However during 3030's Arno began to feel dissatisfied with life on the farm and felt it was his duty to serve his country in a more direct fashion. Saying goodbye to his family Arno set off to join the Helghan Republic Armed Forces.

During basic training Arno's was found to be capable of piloting battlemech so was transferred to be trained in battlemech piloting. His skills in the field were nothing special but good enough that he managed to make it through training and officially become a mechwarrior. He initially piloted a Titan TTN-2HR however would switch to the RVR-69 Raver. His reasoning for requesting the switch was that he would be able to perform better in the very easy to pilot Raver then the Titan which his commanding officer agreed with.

Unlike what he was expecting Arno's unit the first armies 9th​ Battlemech regiment wouldn't be deployed for a long time, even during the interventions it would remain a garrison unit for defense against potential deep strikes. However when the Clans invaded Arno's unit like the rest of the first army would be deployed to defend the Free Rasalhague Republic.

Arno would first see action on Hohenems against Clan Wolf's 37th​ Strike Cluster in a traditional Clan Batchal. It was a hellish battle fought among ice covered fjords and stone canyons. However at some point during the battle Arno would be separated from the rest of his lance when a flanking maneuver was pushed back and found himself alone attempting to return to ORDI lines. However he would be intercepted by a Clan Star on the way and thinking on his feet challenged the star commander in charge to a one on one Batchall which if he were to win they would allow him to safely return to ORDI lines and should he lose he would summit to becoming a bondsman.

Arno's challenge would be accepted and Star Commander Richard Wolf who was piloting a Timberwolf would engage him in one on one combat. However unlike what both combatants were expecting Arno managed to pull out a win by managing to hit all his mechs lasers directly into the Timberwolfs center torso completely coring the omnimech forcing Richard to eject while his mech detonated into a miniature star. Having won the Batchal the rest of Richards star held up the agreement and let Arno safely return to ORDI lines even going as far to inform other Stars in the area to let him pass.

Arno returned to ORDI lines with a heavily damaged mech which desperately needed repairs but he was just glad to have returned with his life. However this encounter would set the precedent for every battle Arno would take part in for the rest of the invasion. Without fail in every battle he would be separated from his lance, encounter a Timberwolf, end up fighting one on one -though the circumstances of each battle would be different not all of them being Batchalls- and end up winning before returning to ORDI controlled territory with a heavily damaged mech.

After the 4th​ time this song and dance happened Arno would gain the nickname of Wolf Bait among his unit for his constant bad luck with encountering Timberwolfs. However due to the fact he defeated every Timberwolf he encountered, a legend sprang up around Arno among Timberwolf pilots. It portrays Arno as the Wolf Hunter, an incredibly skilled barbarian Mechwarrior that specifically chose to only engage Timberwolf pilots alone to prove his skill by beating them. Paradoxically this legend caused Timberwolf pilots to seek out Arno in battles hoping to bring down Wolf Hunter causing Arno to encounter even more Timberwolfs. It's reported that when Arno learned of this legend from a Clan POW he didn't know if he should be proud or embarrassed.

After the Clan invasion Arno continued to serve in the HRAF being reassigned to the Helghan Institute of Military sciences to act as an instructor for Helghans next generation of mechwarriors. From current reports he is well liked among his students and his classes have been shown to have incredible promise especially a student by the name of Karolina Shinobu.


AN: And here we are back where my mech designing for this quest began. With the quest having ended it just felt right to give the Raver's lore a make over to how I write it now along with giving it some proper art. This will likely be the last time I will post a mech for this quest until the sequel is made so I hope you guys enjoy it. I do have one more piece of art I am waiting for and I may write a omake for but for now this is it (unless I just feel like designing some future the Lords of Ruin Innersphere or Clan mechs). Finally credit to @abominable who wrote the lore for the original Raver post a lot of it remains in this rewrite so it only was fair to give him the proper credit he deserves.

"That last desperate battle was my last option to get me and my star safely off world" said former Star Commander Jayden a contemplating look on his face. "At the time when I heard Lance Commander Richard Klinger challenge me to a batchal I couldn't belief it. A periphery barbarian challenging us to a honored Clan battle while most Innersphere forces had just ignored them or taken advantage of them? It was absurd."

Jayden sighed "However with Richard offering my Star hegira should I win it was my best chance to get us safely off world but should I lose my star was to surrender and become prisoners of war. Some of my Star mates warned me that Richard maybe lying but I rebuked them as such I took his challenge fully knowing should I lose our days as Clan warriors could end right there and then."

A frown appeared on the young mans face. "It was properly the hardest fight I ever had to fight with Klinger matching my moves with one of his own. However in the end my own overconfidence and superior speed was my undoing. My move to circle around him and strike his back to take him out in one blow backfired with him maneuvering out of the way of my strike at the last possible moment putting me directly in front of him. And he ended the battle right there and then with a barrage of lighting, lasers and missiles.

Then the frown faded from his face being replaced a faint smile as a sense of contentment seemingly washing over him. "But I am happy I lost to him that day. Life in the Republic is far different then how it was in the Clans and it wasn't a easy transition but it's so much more free. No longer do we have to be warriors because we were born to be. We can now just be who we truly want to be. Just look at my former star mate Ezra he is now the leader of a research program looking to improve the safety of the Warp Communications network or Naoimi who runs a fitness studio on Detroit."

AN: And this is the final piece of art that I commissioned up until this point. Originally I wanted to write a full omake on Jaidens last mission and battle however I just couldn't get the Clans way of talking right. So I did this interview which takes place after the invasion where Jayden recounts the battle in a short hand matter instead. I hope you guys still enjoyed it though.
