...yknow what? I wonder that with a major enough breakthrough in nuke tech could we hit RTSC, because that would be as funny as fuckin Starmetal

Hey HC, what tre the worker's councils looking at in terms of dealing with the free time from automation? I'm curious where the debate is going even if we don't know what shape the eventual bonus will take.

Yeah, I was thinking it might lead there:

Edit: Assuming an average roll of 6 for the submarine we're looking at hitting the 22 (we have a 2 point reduction from 24 due to rainbow road) mark for Great Breakthrough.
I'm a little fuzzy on the distinction between Grand and Era defining, but I can see two possibilities:
  1. If we have confirmation on LK-99 being a bonafide superconductor, and given that it's easy to manufacture, it could be that. This would lend itself to doing Italian style GST hulls, but with SMES instead of pressurized oxygen.
  2. Given our medical focus this plan, someone has come up with a drug or drugs that suppress nitrogen narcosis and high pressure nervous syndrome. This would let people live deep underwater at ambient pressure and usher in the world of seaQuest.

In hindsight through both RTSC and the nitrogen narcosis meds are probably closer to Era Defining than Grand - all era defining breakthroughs get a Nobel, but not all Nobels are era-defining. Now, we can't discount the possibility that we will roll a 10 or higher on the sub R&D which will put us at 28 (Era Defining due to the 2 point reduction), but it's only about a 16% chance.

It should be stated tho that the recent RTSC candidate has not been confirmed yet, and it'll likely be a few weeks before a scientific consensus can build - good science doesn't follow the news cycle.

1982 - H2 - The Naval Design Competition
It is a beautiful summer day in the year 1982, and the International Industrial Shipworkers Alliance Union is in a vicious shouting match with the naval arm of the Guangchou Armed Forces. The reason is that not one, not two, not even three, but FIVE new ship designs have been ordered from their design bureaus, and all are set to enter construction the second their designs are finished. Suffice to say, the Union Representatives are not happy about the short notice, and the heap of work heaved upon them.

Too bad for them, then, that the most horrible of things happened; instead of the usual Inter-Working Group Civil War, a truce and peace deal was established. And with it, the forces of chaos were unleashed...

How does this work? I don't think the mechanic has been spelled out?

I think we can pick between the lower number (usually on par with USSR or world or a few years ahead of everyone) or higher number (which is at least world-class but can be as advanced by almost a decade).

More advanced is more expensive, and less reliable since the tech and designs are less proven and have more unresolved issues.

Edit: I prefer the advanced designs. We cant win with quantity, so may as well go for quality. Plus theyre investments into the future.

Like a tough submarine is good and all but that's not their job it's to be stealthy and detection so I am set on advance submarines. The boat yeah I can see us making tougher or more of them more easily like maybe the escort would be better as a tough ship than an advance one.

Cypac has a lot of coastline to cover across all the members so we'll likely need to produce enough for coastal patrols, we also have a huge coastline on the Mediterranean sea so we have to remember that.
