Guangchou, as a land, has many advantages and boons few other nations possess. Unlike Japan (the fuckers), Guangchou holds many precious minerals and jewels in significant quantities within its soil and earth, allowing for prosperous industry, trade, culture, and art to bring wealth and enrichment to its people. Gentle slopes and teeming jungles bring with them food, wood, land to build upon, and vast amounts of animals and plants that can be used for healing, relaxation, farming, and friendship. The great many rivers and deltas dotting the land had once been the source of swamps, disease, and myths. Still, they were tamed into bountiful irrigation canals feeding large portions of the population over the centuries, giving boons were once they gave banes.

Similarly, the great reefs surrounding the islands allowed riches and food to be brought from the sea; pearls, shells, corals, fish, clams, and seaweed were among the most common to be used before the native population even possessed metal. The natural beauty of the lands has brought art, poetry, music, and thought in centuries past and centuries hence. Grand ancient monasteries once stood atop the peaks of the inner islands, monks contemplating the nature of the universe and sallying forth in defense of the people when one more upstart general or kingdom tried to conquer what the gods and spirits had long since denied them. And they did not fight alone, but with the people that sallied forth with great fleets the world's envy, bringing fire, bolt, rams, and pike to those deeming themselves the peoples superior. All their follies were carefully recorded in ancient libraries, whose wisdom is still being carefully studied and copied to this day to better understand the world and how we may shape it to our needs.

Yet, for all of Guangchous Glory, History, and Beauty, one must understand that there was a truth everyone knew but was long since resigned to its eternal rule.

Your education system sucked ass. Hard.

By Lenin, it's bad, so fucking bad.

Luckily, you are now rectifying that particular shortcoming of your nation, once more holding up the flame of enlightenment and knowledge which was smothered for so long under the grinding wheels of industry and the churning flames of war. The People cry out for education and for their children to learn, and you are more than happy to oblige. You can destroy a factory, melt metal into unusable scrap, and cast down monuments, but you cannot kill what you can't grasp, can't warp what has been long since guarded, can't take it from those that already possess knowledge.

So let us create a better world by making better schools.

Q: Oh no! Will chosing a wrong option here have our entire nation collapse or bite us in the ass later on?
A: Unless you go fully against communist ideals, this vote will be mostly in how radical you are in your new school system.

Edit: To be more clear, you can fully disregard the options I gave you, and make your own thing, I just wrote them out to give some ideas for those that want to make their own path.

I think we should be careful about too much Pre-Schooling, the actual studies of it seem pretty mixed about its beneficial aspects, at least if you go far enough back. So I'd actually be against an introductory year, at least if we keep to the same "start schooling" age as, say, America.

Here's my proposal. OTL the 1960s and 70s were a time of huge changes in how people looked at history, and Social History (as in, social data sets and etc etc) was getting big, as was Gender Studies and Decolonization Theory and etc, etc.

E: Also we can just tell Guangchou history how even sensitive Americans tell theirs. "Yeah, it was pretty bad when we committed a mass genocide on Native Americans and did forced labor camps, and that was terrible, but we've learned from our lessons, we're moving to fulfill the Promise of the Constitution, etc, etc." Basically the Communist version of that sort of liberal idealism that says "We're in the process of living up to our founding ideals, the mistakes were in the past, we're going to keep on getting better."

In terms of actual teaching, I think there should be a focus on different streams. If someone is unbelievably good at math and crap at writing, the focus should be on pushing them forward on math, instead of focusing on getting their skills up at writing.

Find what people are good at, and push them towards it. Of course, there should be some flexibility built in as well, to study things they aren't necessarily good at but which they enjoy as well.

Basically, if you have something you're really good at, your future shouldn't be hindered based on your weaknesses.

Yeah that's how you do left wing infighting paternalistic derision and jargon that's the ticket.

What are school levels? I don't quite get it?
What are Freeform Demands of Understanding?
Uuh, like the american or german school system. Junior High to High School, Grundschule to Haupt/Realschule or Gymnasium.

Just, ages y-to-x go here, x-to-z here, etc.

Freeform Demands of Understanding is basically; you get that? Yes? Demonstrate that to my (the teachers/board) satisfaction.
I understand the Guangchou Gulag to offer feminisation classes this is a burden I shall bear to support my Anarchist comrades.
You don't have any Gulags anymore, and even if you did, they wouldn't, and anyone that would do that would get the boot asap.

Mostly because I don't want to canonize Fucked Up Japanese Hentai in this quest in any form.

That's ah not what I meant. Didn't we have those therapy camps set up to like actually help people rejoin society? I meant get sent to one of them and request HRT.

You have political re-education centers, that are actually about political re-education.

If you want HRT, you gotta ring up the Guangchou Institute of Sexual Science for appointments.

this is option overload tbh

[] some who starts school at 6 will have their last year when they are 17, resulting in twelve years total
-[] there shall be no pre-school
-[] each school day is six hours of instruction, one hour for lunch, and short breaks between classes

i'll come back and tackle this some more later (maybe) (we'll see)

It is absolutely important to ensure the physical wellbeing of our students that they may be free to pursue their academics unhindered. I for one like @The Laurent 's proposal of a cold but energizing breakfast and a hearty lunch that sets the student up for success in their day in terms of the kind of food they're getting. As well, beyond physical education there ought be a designated minimum of time allocated for outdoor existence, it is terribly unhealthy to be stuck inside all the time and there is frankly no good reason not to have say at least one lesson block per day outdoors on top of phys ed. Maybe History? Is there a good reason not to make history the designated outdoor block? or maybe to append this to the school day length? a modification to what @R2Walker penned to the effect of

-[ ] each school day is six hours of instruction, one hour for lunch, and short breaks between classes, at least two instructional hours to be outdoors weather permitting and lunch to be permitted outdoors

Continuing for health and wellness, however the school day is scheduled it out be done so that the students have time for adequate sleep, which is a consideration in homework assignment, start times, and school day length, as well the student needs time in their for after school gatherings and extracurriculars which are crucial to social and academic growth. given our distinctly subtropical lattidue and climate we get the benefit of more consistent days compared to say scotland or new england, but we should probably keep the school start times to 8:30 or later.

With regard to physical education, a students course in sport and physical education should leave them through their schooling in good health, and with the tools, habits, and know how to keep themselves in good health. More specifically, beyond just mandatory sports taking up non educational non productive time there ought be an emphasis in the development of habits of regular exercise and education in the mechanics and reasons of regular and broad physical exercise. I don't see how it fits this vote but maybe something to consider just generally speaking in terms of how we prioritize physical education, when it goes beyond the more recreational there may be an incentive to have more frequent physical education.

Homework as well affects student health, it places demand on student activity and time later in the day. I would propose perhaps that homework ought be limited in its demand on student time, and geared towards growing study and comprehension skills over the assignment of excess revision reading and rote worksheets. Perhaps something like
-[] Homework
--[] Monthly research based essays

or some such to similar effect, limiting time expenditure while providing the utmost benefit to the student that isn't simply an attempt to extend school hours without actually extending school hours. Allows students to develop vital skills and more importantly serves to decouple homeworking ability from the home environment by creating homework that allows students time to refer back to their academic resources like peers and teachers for help

Also fun idea for fun, what if we let students design the uniforms for their schools. like either as a district wide or school wide thing bring up spirit, sense of community, and showcase student talents by letting them make the uniforms. I think it would be a cool way to engage students more in their school and their student community. Further on the communist perspective this helps students form a more decisive proletarian body bereft of class divisions while allowing them to best develop and maintain the edge of the cultural field of development divorced from bourgeoisie traditionalism or methods of control. of course the question comes in how sstudent designs are accepted but I dont see why that needs standardization, let different schools choose through different methods

I'm actually not enamoured with Double Standard because there's a fundamental mismatch between the stated aims and the methodology.
Teaching critical thinking but then turning around and trying to present a biased history of Guangchou is either going to lead to the critical thinking part being watered down, or the Guangchou propaganda becoming obvious and undermining our reputation.

Eh, my perspective is... the double standard is, "We're changing/we can change" and "at least we don't stone gay people to death" while not giving the same degree of charity to capitalist powers. It's a very normal level of double-standard, tbh? I'm admittedly also trying to be thematic and actually fit into a version of something I think could be made? (Kinda like how I want school uniforms not because I think they're inherently good, but because it makes sense and is cute.)

Teaching critical thinking but then turning around and trying to present a biased history of Guangchou
I think presenting a biased history... Is your average nation building exercise. Which is kind of mandatory, given the, err, opposite progapanda that will come.

It's more of a... "Here's our official history. Here's the critical thinking skills needed to figure out actual facts (or in 20 years: Wikipedia site)."

Cooky giving funny tag isn't the best news for this plan :p
