It was off target by seventeen kilometers.

And eleven Chaos Frigates were ripped apart all the same, their now smelted hulls screaming with naught but the hateful roars of its slain crew and the gleeful cackling of the freed slaves 'ere both were ripped apart by the Warp and the feeding frenzy of its denizens circling this battle.

And THAT is why battleship/Ship of the line combat can back into style (/Never went out of style for the necrons/eldar/orks/ etc etc) , Because there are weaponsthat do space AOE and AOE kills trash.

Hmm. I only really want to land on the planet if we are prepared to push the neonite fleet out. Which we can now that that Cruiser is dead. Seeing as we are both broke contact, sending a message saying we now consider them free game is not in the same spirit as just shooting them right after the fight.

we very well could beat the Neon fleet as it is I think, Without that Gothic, and we only lost a Lupus.

If we land without the intent tp shoot the neon fleet, that makes it harder by far to undergo a retreat, because we would have to evacuate our forces, while a shooting fight is underway.

if we don't plan to fight the Neon remnants, We should just take the loot and leave.
It makes us looks suspicious as hell, but they already want to purge and burn us at the stake as xeno's heretics.

So, starting to see why Chaos is really dangerous to fight for most people.

The very instant you engage them, they're constantly rolling Corruption checks. Except, uh, we're immune to that shit. So we maintained full cohesion while the Imperial fleet was just having to deal with regular mutinies and rebellions from people who saw the poop and went PRAISE CHAOS all of a sudden.

Still, absurdly fucking annoying that we almost lost Chyron and Did lose the god damn Slaughter-class salvage thanks to their fuckfuck games. But at least the Deal will not likely be Altered any time soon given the Imperial losses here, while we got off mostly unscathed.
I find it interesting that curse of lamenters activated on Starchild crit or is it the consequence of Starchild domain over heroism.

Also, I find it incredibly funny that corruption rolls against us were answered by straight-up "No." I hope we get an Imperial Fists successor chapter in the future.

We're here to Kill Chaos and Save Lives, loot was just a bonus. It'll help our shipbuilding but as we've just seen, a solution to NOVACANNON is required--even if the Gothic going down is probably a nearly fatal blow to Neon in the long run.

God damnit though, I wanted that Scartix-Coil so much, and we would have had it if Neon weren't a bunch of jobbers who succumbed to Khorne for a moment at the worst possible time.

But like.....both? So i guess we're resource and manpower limited, explaining why we can only do one or the other.

Also what the fuck, that wizard dude. Was that motherfucker somehow a loyalist Alpha Legionnaire? Like what the fuck didn't he have bound demons to his armor? WOW.

Edit: @Alectai imagine rolling so high on diplomacy that ghe survivng Neonites on the planet defects to us while being aware that the Neon fleet just fled.

Mostly because Fuck Chaos and this would net us goodwill instead of suspicion, which might be turned into a longer ceasefire, which favours us. Peace is time, time is progress, progress is victory.

Alpha Legion has no idea what the fuck it wants anymore.

It works for Chaos generally but doublethinks itself into still being Loyal but triplethinks into actually being for Chaos anyway and then quadruplethinks into actually we want to kill Chaos by letting them win and then watching them self-destruct and then quintuplethinks their way back into being Loyal again.

Practically speaking, the Alpha Legion are pure Plot Device to help Chaos keep winning, since most of their Fuckfuck games tend to eventually end up working out in Chaos' favor.

Luckily it works both ways, helping the planet out now should make it easier on us when we eventually manage to take it for ourselves later. Those who live there will remember what we did.

The solution is, unfortunately for us, Ships of the Line Ships that can survive being shot at with damage, Or at least won't be savage as badly by the edges of the blast, and doesn't lead to gaping holes in your battleline.

The biggest problem for defending is that Outside of being big enough to survive as long as its not a near hit, Is that Nova cannons are a class of weapons and not a specific warhead, ranging everything from massive Plasma warheads, To grav implosives and Vortex Shells that suck you straight into the warp in the warp version of a black hole.

The good news is that Nova Cannons are Rare in Lore, and most Forge Worlds can't build them, let alone isolated Industrial Ones.

This was likely one of only maybe--at best--two or three in Neon's entire arsenal, and there's a chance it was the only one--and it just died before it could be turned on us.

Remember, we're here to Save Lives and kick Chaos in the crotch, Stay On Target people!

(There is no reason to dawdle; you already have ships thanks to the Lamenters, and there is nothing but corrupted metals and machines to be gained here. Aid the people who still need it.)

whelp...that was painful as heck...we didnt get the slaughter class...would have been happy with JUST THAT.

but nope...doubt we will get anything good from this besides what we earn...and of course the lamenators getting pissed at the imperium AGAIN for fucking up so spectacularly...no wonder why chaos treats them as a free for all buffet...hopefully we can undo this hell-hole enough to screw the four tumors of reality and unreality enough to weaken them in the long-term.

Landing on the Planet leaves us vulnerable to being Shot at by the Fleet still. If our forces are on the planet, we won't be able to evacuate, so if we want to land on the planet you had damn well better be ready to square up and fight the imperial fleet, because their mission is to liberate Gathin and they won't accept Xeno's heretics Landing on the Planet under the Pinky promise of "We swear we will leave once the chaos is dead."

If we land on the planet, we will have to fight the Neon fleet because the Chaos fleet is now dead and we are now the bigger threat.

Honestly, the weird thing is, a 5 should have been semi-good for them given how much Warpy shit was being flung around and how they were an Iconoclast-flavored option for Elites, but apparently it still blew up in their faces.

Unless, uh, "Massive losses at the hands of the Imperium" was, in fact, good for the Star Child's ambition because it pushes them even more clearly into our camp?

They no longer have the material to be able to defeat us without that Super Gothic backstopping them and the losses they took in the scrum. They're not stupid.

More importantly, let's not be the first one to go for a backstab or a Technical Reading. We need to act with integrity at all times. Just because they'll probably backstab us doesn't mean they will, and until then, we do what we Must.

I just realised that Lamenters just got an alibi as to why they will return with us and not stay with Neo. It is a bad consolatory prize but better than nothing

CHAOS L

CHAOS L

STAR CHILD SWEEP!!!!!!

NEON IS SEETHING

And of course.......Alpha Legion coming in from behind, Hydra Dominatus.

Anyway, much as we could use some loot I'd rather we leave this battle without antagonizing or rustling Neon as much as possible, which (unfortunately) means no trying to swipe the Nova and hope they won't see us take it.

Plus we gotta save those Civies and continue to kick the crap out of Chaos. If we're lucky we may just leave the planet having left behind some SC believers with some psyker friends in tow.

Some Blanks and a Pariah would also be nice, assuming our troops could hold off long enough to not kill them immediately.

The admech leader is possibly dead, so the Most logical Leader in the fleet is gone. Their Mission is to liberate Gathin. With the Imperium how it is, The fact that their fleet can't win means nothing, Because if their own xenophobia isn't enough to push them into firing on us once we land on their planet, The fact that they will probably be shot if they leave right now for cowardice or for not fulfilling their mission is a reason.

The Smart option is for them to hang back and shadow our fleet, Hoping we do leave so they don't need to fight us, Then they can do both, but I will never bet on the Imperium doing the smart thing when it involves not shooting as Heretics.
