--[X] Those Slaughter-class Cruisers are supposed to have good engines, right? (Try to capture that, a reasonably intact sample that can be sanctified would be absolutely worth our time here, and it's not like the Imperials will want something like this. Call it a trophy if you want. We are the ones with Space Marines being brought to the table here.)
--[X] Any slaves we can liberate are probably best in our hands too, it's not like the Imperium will care. The point is, we're here to Kill Chaos, not to get some clay, anything beyond that is bonus. Loot anything that Chaos brought with them that they haven't nailed down, burn anything that can't be sanctified, and have the rest to study or otherwise put to work on a Righteous Cause.
--[X] Finally, remember Outsider Policy. Remember that the balance of power changes once Chaos is on the back foot, be ready to withdraw at a moment's notice. There's nothing forcing them to stick to the deal except their own honor after all. Cooperation is all fine and dandy today against a greater threat, but trust needs to be earned. Don't commit anything that can't be pulled out quickly if the winds and the rains shift.

Just gotta ask, but once some of our troops are planet side, will we be recruiting Imperium slaves as well? I mean, its not stealing if their assets/people are running at up to "over enthusiastically try to purge the heretics" right? Like, nothing wrong with several hundred thousand menials comandeering some ships to ram into their hangers and kill then all right? :D
We're not stealing people, nope! We're certainly not going to bribe them with our delecious chocolates!

Oh! Right! Nearly forgot. Because of the nature of Psykers they tent to hide, or Neon hadn't been able to catch all of them. Do you guys think we'll be ablw to make off with all if not most not chaos or neon affliated psykers? What about mutants? The imperuim usually kills the mutant, so if we take their mutants nothing of value in their eyes have been lost right?

We really need to get our psykana the boost with the faith action.

Because I just realised that the Neo is a ticking time bomb because they are cut out of the black ship network and all of their untrain and unsanctioned psykers are up for pickings by the 4

Anyway, been doing some theorycrafting as to what will happen here.

Chaos force is going to have to engage if they don't want to cede the equivilant of Six Actions. They'll know full well what to expect from the Imperial side, especially that they have a Nova Cannon. The only real counter to a Nova Cannon is getting in their face before they can shoot you more than once or twice, and then staying out of its forward arc or otherwise remaining inside its Dead Zone where the Nova Cannon can't be armed. As Imperial ships tend to be relatively slow and Chaos ships fairly quick, this isn't hard for them.

Once it becomes clear that we've decided to team up, it really depends on how the Chaos Force reacts. Since the smart move then would be to attack one of the formations before they can consolidate on their position. And there are Problems in either event--we've got Space Marines with us, which means we're going to be hard to board, and we have two Battlecruisers, which are likely to smash through a lot of their own ships. Meanwhile, the Imperial fleet has less heavy metal and a Nova Cannon, and they'll know that if they jump us, the Imperials will call catching us in the splash zone as a bargain.

But if they jump the Imperial force, they'll be able to deny it access to the Nova Cannon. They definitely have no Astartes, so they can use their own to get some successful boarding attacks in, they don't have any carriers with them--so they'll have Strike Craft superiority given how they're rocking likely 4 Hellbringers. They don't actually know that our fleet would excel at tactical strikes in a furball, and all we need is something to pin them in place and we can go to town. They just know we have two scary-ass Battlecruisers that are slow moving, and we have Astartes with us who really want to kill them. The rest of us are basically Unknowns as far as they can tell, and our design strategy is unique enough that they can't automatically determine what our ships are good at.

That's the smart move, but they might just get told "Jump these guys" by a Daemon or something and just obey them unquestioningly because hurting us is more important than hurting Neon and they'd rather die to a man than disobey a voice from Hell.

Or they might just do a Dumb Thing that happens to be the most painful move aganinst us, specifically, and decide to rush us with all their force for the lolz.

Either way, assuming they're competent, chances are their lack of knowledge on us is going to backfire because they'll hit the definite Battle Defining Threat to prevent it from shooting them apart, leaving them wide open for us to hit them with strike craft waves and boarding attempts courtesy of the Lamenters. If they're incompetent or just Hyper Chaos Zealots (Which the Red Corsairs really shouldn't be), then they might hit us because Iunno. Memes maybe? Anti-Player Bias? We're largely an Unknown Unknown to them, but we didn't really bring any heavy metal aside from the Battlecruisers--which should be daunting enough as it is given their spread, and even if they could deduce our Light Cruisers are carriers, that doesn't mean they'll have any idea how much carnage the Thules will reap if given a chance.

Either way, the fact there's a fucking Nova Cannon on the Imperial Side should be getting them to shit themselves as much as I'm emitting waves of Concern. I find it tremendously unlikely that they'll prioritize us over that fucking monstrosity unless they're in full suicide mode.

EDIT: For those of you wondering "What if they don't know that they have a Nova Cannon?" Actually impossible, it's one of the limitations of a Nova Cannon is that it's actively impossible to conceal it. It can only be loaded in the Prow, and it is always revealed on an Active Augury, without exception. It's just too large and takes up too much energy to miss, and no work of human artifice can hide that you're packing one.

That Cruiser is going to be priority number one for Chaos, taking it out would be a critical blow to Neon's defenses, given how difficult Nova Cannon production is and how effective they are. If they can kill only one ship in this, it'll be that Gothic Cruiser.

Oh dear, on the one hand, from the Chaos Killing scale, that's quite nice. On the other hand, it also shows how far we have to go.

I'm scared of chaos rolling low, a 6, 7, 8 or 9, Oof. I don't care if that 34 dumpsters like half the chaos fleet, bad number is bad

The lowest they rolled was a 7. :V
(The highest was a 34. :p)

darn it nurgle!

and also a 34?!? Holy shoot...not looking forward to this fight.

lets just hope we can actually do decently enough we can salvage some stuff...primairly the lance-boat slaughter class, the understanding of its engines (which would be a massive boon for us), along with its very powerful lances (which would help us again) give us wonderful ideas for innovation...that and if we can nick a few items (they said OVERT stealing of imperial techology and items, nothing about doing a blood-raven and nicking a few important things that wont be truly missed because imperials are dumb/fanatics most of the time)

also we really need to expand our everything...just hoping we get a calm turn or two to get some colonization done so we can expand our industry enough to make enough escorts and light cruisers to form a patrol fleet or two for our space...as well as a fleet to take out dead-mans end.

edited: (also we really need to get some replacements for our ships or update a few of them to the newer standard, hoping we can get another 55 for rebuilds to update our current line of ships with more DP!...along with getting some research actions done like making armored life-pods a thing for all our ships.)

Yeah, we desperately need more AP and more effectiveness with our actions. These weren't even the main hustle and we'd have likely gotten smashed if we leeroyed into it. Which we sometimes will have to to stop a greater tragedy.

At the very least, I hope we can get some useful salvage out of the Chaos Fleet. The Scartix Coil is so fucking good you guys, but I fear it's exactly because of this that we won't get one intact enough to salvage, or it'll somehow be a Memetic Hazard now because we can't have nice things. But it would be so perfect for our Vanguard Cruiser.

Also would be nice if we could mitigate that Lance penalty we have to our doctrine too, we could make a damn good Super Sagi right now if it wasn't for that.

I mean, I dunno, it seems like we're doing alright? There's more work to be done, but Neon so far has underperformed for how dominant of a position as they should be in.

It still leaves them dangerous and still considerably stronger than us, but we're also busy doing all sorts of things to help our long-term, so I'm chill with it.

I would like to Not be Dead as well, especially if the Imperium is basically bringing a bucket of dice to the table here apparently, and the worry that they'll Alter the Deal if things go too well.
It is tzzenchian plan, I wouldn't be surprised if the plan is to lose the battle here and bait Neo into a battle of Vanhidem so they may destroy the "northern" fleet of Neo and raid surrounding worlds for a century or 2 for goodies.

But yes, hopefully they won't alter the deal

You know, if we want more loot and ship hulls to increase ship building quality and speed we could always roll over that pirate base.

Speaking of which, I've been looking at the map and am slightly confused. Those stars mean stations right? Do the pirates only have stations, no planets?

It's on the List.

And yeah, the Pirates apparently only have stations there, but are somehow able to jump out and raid elsewhere, which suggests they've either got a Navigator House present or some crazy tech that lets them either bypass Warp Routes, or some bullshit that lets them travel Unstable routes.

Or it's a path to another subsector that we can't see yet because we don't have a presence there, I don't know. Either way, they're on the List. We just need the economy and time to nail them with. Just like we need to backfill our territory.

But the 3 action per turn limit is insanely punishing given how many things we have to do.

Ugh.

I'm getting paranoid and anxious again, I hope we don't get mauled too badly and forced into a death spiral. "Their highest roll was 37" is very, very scary, since it suggests that "3d6" is nowhere even remotely close to how many dice are involved in actual fleet engagements, and that we don't even qualify as slime on the bottom of their boots yet when they actually care enough to Try.
