Omake- Blood drips onto the roots.

Shimura Danzou limped wearily into his personal secure meeting room. The meeting had not gone well. It had been a very long time since he had seen Hiruzen so angry at him, though it was not an unexpected reaction to the news of the Uchiha massacre. Only the ample evidence of the upcoming coup had stayed the Hokage's hand from punishing him. Frankly, Danzou felt Hiruzen should have displayed more gratitude at having taken care of the matter for him. Still, even if the Hokage refused to grant him thanks for his efforts, he was still rewarded in other ways.

Inside the room Danzou's right-hand man, Fu Yamanaka, bowed towards him.

"Danzou-sama, the mission has been completed successfully. Posing as ANBU, our operatives have secured the bodies of the Uchiha, and Sharingan extraction efforts are currently underway. An unfortunately high proportion of eyes are unrecoverable due to the rapid spread of Itachi's black fire, however we still expect to recover at least 40% of all Sharingan eyes, minus however many are lost during transplantation."

Danzou smiled at the news. This physical reward was quite wonderful, and a part of him wondered if Tobirama would be pleased to know the Leaf would never need to deal with the fractious Uchiha ever again. Well, except for the sole remaining exception to the purge.

"What is the status of Sasuke Uchiha? Itachi's parting message indicated his sibling's survival and ability to advance in Sharingan capability was a requirement of his silence."

Fu's Tanto-hand tightened reflexively; an unusually potent sign of tension to have shown up past the emotion-deadening training he had undergone.

"Sasuke Uchiha is currently in a genjutsu-induced coma in the secure wing of Konoha Hospital. His condition has been declared stable, and is expected to make an eventual recovery."

Danzou eyed his subordinate closely. He trusted the man, but it always paid to keep in mind the psychological levers present in ones allies. Certainly, Fu still held ties of loyalty to his clan, and might feel uncertainty at the precedent set tonight.

"Did tonight's events leave you uncomfortable, Fu?"

The redhead's brows furrowed momentarily, before he shook his head.
"N-no, Danzou-sama. If you say that this was necessary to prevent Konoha's self-destruction, then it is so. However, there was an unexpected development. There was another survivor. A young bastard girl named 'Hisana', was discovered amid the ruins. She seems to have unlocked the Sharingan following the Uchiha Purge, though as she was not recognised as a member of the clan, she was almost certainly not involved in the planning of the coup. It is unclear at this time as to whether Itachi intentionally left her alive or simply missed her survival in the rubble."

Danzou allowed his smile to fade, replaced by his usual masked expression. This was not expected at all. Especially since...hmm. Though, come to think of it, this could prove a boon. An unexpectedly alive pair of sharingan eyes might prove useful further down the track if the transplantation did not go as expected, or if he felt the need to develop stronger versions of the Sharingan eye. And sometimes the unexpectedness of an outcome was reason enough for keeping that outcome. Better an unseen shuriken than an obvious fireball jutsu. The only question was if the risk was worth the reward...

"Can the girl be recovered or accessed?"

Fu shook his head minutely.
"The girl is also in the secure wing, and is likely to be accompanied by ANBU guard for the forseeable future. "

"...Very well then. Leave the girl be for now. She may be of use to us later. Suppress and downplay knowledge of her survival. Encourage the perception that she is a mere sidenote of no relevance. Sasuke is the true heir of the clan and will draw most of the political attention. So long as this variable remains out of the spotlight, she may be useful to us. If this circumstance changes....we may need to take steps to ensure that others cannot make use of her."
Some interesting assumptions here...

Nice omake, though. 10xp for you to assign as you wish.

I'd started writing before the latest update, and had to do some rewrites on the fly. Especially since I had no idea how much future-knowledge he might have gained from associating with Orochimaru. As such, I tried to leave as much of it as innuendo as possible.

Anyway, throw it all on Fuinjutsu.

[x] - You have enough chakra to go all out until reinforcements arrive. Use offensive ninjutsu to thin the horde and create a safe area.

In regards to being put on a team, won't we be put on the same team as Sasuke and Naruto, which would be with Kakashi, since Kakashi was the only other person with a Sharingan and thus able to teach them about Sharingan stuff.. plus the Sharingan can keep the Nine Tails in check, which was another reason I thought Naruto and Sasuke were put together, for another Sharingan to be around Naruto to help prevent a rampage.

Unless there's suddenly other Sharingan Jounin around..

I don't think that was ever given as a reason explicitly, and he doesn't need to be your jonin-sensei to teach you things; we're tutored by Ebisu, after all.

plus the Sharingan can keep the Nine Tails in check, which was another reason I thought Naruto and Sasuke were put together, for another Sharingan to be around Naruto to help prevent a rampage.

Madara was able to control Kurama with his Sharingan; no other Uchiha has demonstrated this ability at this time in the story, and there were certainly enough Uchiha in Konoha the last time Kurama broke free to try. Neither Sasuke nor Kakashi would even know where to start trying that. That said, Danzo assumed there was a deeper reason to Hiruzen putting Naruto and Sasuke on a team together, and believed it was this exact reason. So there might be something to it, but Danzo has a bad track record of not understanding anything that isn't rooted in cynicism and ruthless pragmatism.

There's likely a lot of reasons why Hiruzen thought it was a good idea. For one, he probably recognized that Kakashi would see his own Team 7 in this one and thus be much more inclined to pass them and train them to the best of his ability (which he did, despite all the fanon bitching about him being a useless teacher). He probably recognized the rivalry the two shared (even when he was dismissive of Naruto, Sasuke still showed more of himself to Naruto than just about any of his peers) and thought it would help spur their development, and he probably also realized they had things in common that might help them develop a bond with each other (Hiruzen is very big on his villagers developing bonds with each other; after all, who the hell is going to fight to the death for a village where nobody's important to them? The Will of Fire can be pragmatic as well as idealistic, which is probably why Danzo likes it even though he tends to dismiss any kind of idealism as foolish or weak).

Probably because it is the most boring village with almost nothing revealed about it. I consider myself to be deeply into naruto lore, and I can still only name like 4 Iwa-nin.

Edit: Ninja'd! I really shouldn't be so surprised.

Back on the SI invasion topic, a question I think we'll need to find the answer to comes to mind.

When did the SI start showing up?

This is a very important question, because it determines if the rails of canon can be nudged, or if they're completely changed.

Cause if they started showing up recently everything is canonish, but if they started showing up years and years ago we might have some SI trying to found Hidden Villages, causing shenanigans. We don't need a SI trying to create the Sound Village before Orochimaru is even born.

Wasn't Hisana at some point keeping journals in English written in Katakana? I hope she's keeping those things in a sealing scroll by now or has destroyed them. Seriously imagine the awkward questions if someone noticed she knows the secret language of the mysterious infiltrator.

She decided not to, which is all for the good.

If she decided to keep notes, I hope she just wrote them down, looked at them with the Sharingan to lock the memory forever, then immediately burned them.

Honestly I think the most likely reason Hisana, Naruto, and Sasuke will end up in the same team is that with this incident the three of them have shown an ability to work well together as a team.

Acquisition 2.6
Acquisition 2.6

Hisana's mind raced. There was no viable, purely defensive move to take here. There was no wall to back up against, no ground to surrender. She simply had to survive thirty seconds more, and then someone else would arrive. Someone else could protect the people she'd endangered through her complacency.

As the enemy ninja emerged from the smoke, Hisana's hands became a blur of motion; and fire welled up within her. Her mouth opened, and she roared fire like the fiercest of dragons. Men screamed as the world slowed down; and when wind followed it appeared as if Hisana had sundered the very earth itself. Wind chakra met Fire; and each fed the other. A dozen men died in those flames, still to disoriented from the summoning to dodge. A pink haired figure darted in and out the smoke, her hand drenched in the rose glow of an incomplete chakra scalpel. It did not have the elegance or precision required for surgical work; nor was it suitable for any other peaceful purpose. It was a merely a weapon.

A hundred orange clad blondes screamed as Mizuki charged, and at his words. Orange chakra burst from them, and Hisana felt like she was going to die. There was a physical weight bearing down upon her; and it seemed for the moment as if the battle had simply stopped. Hisana managed to drag her head around to look at what had caused it, and saw the Tailed Beast's chakra swirl around each and every clone. She saw nine wisps of it solid enough to be visible to the naked eye.

She couldn't breathe. People were moving past her, ragged shapes screaming in fear. She struggled to stand, barely managing to support herself on her sword. Each breath came easier than the last, and she could hold her sword out in front of her. Her body moved where her mind could not, standing ready to fight. The sounds of battle raged, and out the smoke and dust came a man with a spear and only half a face. He charged forward slowly, and her body did likewise. She felt like she was walking through honey.

Her sword still found it's mark, cutting the man cleanly in two. She was too slow, she needed to be stronger, she needed to throw this lethargy off. Mustering what seemed like all her remaining strength, she sent a pulse of chakra towards the seal on her forehead. The world suddenly felt right again, as red markings descended down her face. Men, wearing a similar uniform to the one she'd killed, streamed out of the smoke. The first, she killed with another Iaido strike. There was a sound like the crack of whip from the sheer speed of her blow.

Her sword burning red, she flung herself into the fray. The first blade caught her on the left, merely a nick, before she could slay it's owner. Blades of wind followed her swings, cutting another man down. A kick landed in her chest, cracking ribs and sending her flying backwards. A kunai she only barely dodged; a few wisps of black hair following it. She was overwhelmed, and she knew it. Against any one of these men, she could have easily emerged victorious.

Against all of them, she was going to die. She could see the blow the would kill her coming. She was already moving to block another; and she was unable to dodge. The point of the spear grew ever close, until a kunai took it's owner in the chest. Sasuke, his eyes glowing red, landed a two footed kick on one of the mystery ninja as, to use a colloquial term from home, the cavalry arrived. ANBU leapt from the treetops, as many of the chuunin teachers and gate guards charged from the ground.

With a tremendous noise, the smoke obscuring the battlefield was blown away. The most powerful of the mysterious ninjas was mid swing at Naruto when it happened, and when she saw the God of Shinobi arrive before she heard him. The mysterious ninja's sword shattered upon Enma, and Hisana saw Hiruzen Sarutobi truly angry for what she hoped was the first and last time. After that, the battle ended in surrender or death for the mysterious ninja. Hisana let her seal recede along with her eyes, and would have fallen over if she hadn't been caught by her brother. She heard shouting, and saw Sakura rush over.

She awoke in her own bed hours later, a concerned Sasuke waiting for her. She felt bandages along her chest - but her ribs seemed healed. Yet her chakra stores would indicate it had been nowhere near long enough for that.

"You were out for only a few hours, and cleared of any further complication at the site of the... of the battle."Sasuke said, quietly.

"Are they all okay? Naruto, Sakura, the other student?" Hisana asked, worry gripping her. Sasuke nodded in reply. She had been too weak, too arrogant. She had thought she was the only one - yet there was nothing special about how she died, nothing special about Mary before she died. She did not have nearly the information advantage she thought she had; and even all of her training had proved its limits.

So she needed to be stronger - her sword flashed out, cutting the man across his chest - she couldn't let her weakness let anyone down again. She was the older one, the one with the knowledge and the skill to protect the others. She was the one right in the middle of it all, and if whoever those assholes were took issue in that; they could take it up with her sword.

"Will you be strong enough to attend the team announcements?" Sasuke asked.

"I'll be fine. Really." Hisana said, as she tried futilely to banish the memories her sharingan had recorded. It seemed, however, that they would be with her forever.

I don't think it's possible for the last two Uchiha to be taught by anyone other than Kakashi. If there were some other Uchiha left, they could be split, but Kakashi is the only person who can optimally teach them now. Splitting Hisana and Sasuke would only mean ruining, or at least crippling, the potential of the one who isn't picked for Team 7. Seeing as both of them have shown a very strong drive for improvement and talent, doing so would cause resentment and enmity within that person, and needlessly prevent Konoha from obtaining a potentially VERY valuable asset(brother of Itachi, talented pureblooded Uchiha with a lot of drive VS bastard Uchiha with Sharingan at 8 and a lot of drive, as well as talent in seemingly every field of Ninja Arts). Basically, it'd mean that Hiruzen made the SAME MISTAKE as Tobirama, once again letting paranoia and pragmatism breed hatred within the Uchiha clan, most likely leading to a lot of treasonous thoughts later on, and possibly defection.

Naruto, on the other hand, is not only Minato's son, but is currently unaware of the Kyuubi's presence in him, and is about to become a Genin, who will eventually start fighting against hostiles on C-rank missions and up. It's extremely important that, when he inevitably loses control for the first time, he is near someone who can use the Mokuton, the Sharingan or Fuinjutsu with sufficient skill to be useful. That leaves Kakashi or Tenzou, because Jiraiya is too busy with his spy network. The latter is still in ANBU, I believe.

@Tekomandor can we work on a tag version of the mystical palm technique customized for our personal use?

You're fast, Sakura. Working on the chakra scalpel already?

That much Kurama chakra already?

You finally got your Sharingan, Sasuke!

We need better chakra storage to last longer during fights.

Edit: Ninja'd by author.[/QUOTE] Point of order. Bijus weakness to the Sharingan isn't known at this point. And Naruto nearly killed Jiraya when the sannin tried tinkering with the seal.

I want my explosives, dammit.

A good side effect from ignoring Mizuki is that the whole chase looked very organic to outside observer. No need to explain why we felt the need to spy on our teacher on this particular day, why we knew to follow him or whatever. Stuff happened, we reacted. Performed quite admirably, too.
