I think assuming that Mizuki will do something on this specific day is leaning a bit too heavily on canon assumptions.

That said, we can play it off in a number of ways if we get caught by village authorities ("it's stealth training!"), and I don't think Mizuki can harm us much without us being able to at least raise an alarm, so at worst I expect us to feel silly, miss out on some bonding time, and push Hisana to rely on canon knowledge less.

He may well not. If he doesn't then all we did was waste time today.

If things work out at all similar to canon and he does try something today then at least we'll be in a position to do something about it if we keep an eye on him.

Prepare for the worst, I can't stress this enough.

As you say, we can always play it off as being silly if we're noticed.

@Redshirt Army is this an indication that you may change your vote to keeping an eye on Mizuki?

Overshadowed

It was something he tried not to think about. It would be incredibly ungrateful, after everything she'd done for him. After being cast aside by the rest of the clan, not even given the name Uchiha, she was the one who pulled things together.

The one who took control of the clan finances, the one who negotiated with the Hokage, the one who dealt with the merchants and traders and made plans for the future. The one who unlocked the Sharingan.

It would be one thing if she was just better at numbers and logistics than him, better at talking to people and cooking and a hundred little mundane things. But she was a better ninja then him, too, and that brought a pain with it made all the worse by its familiarity.

She wasn't like... him. She scaped and scrabbled and clawed her way into anything she thought could help her, setting aside clan dignity in a way that his br... that that man had never had to. In a way that, whatever her current title, showed her roots as a clan outcast plain to see.

She spied on ninjutsu whenever she could manage it, she hired tutors for them from a wide range of other clans, and she showed no shame at all in taking any ideas she felt were good and making them her own. Chakra strings from Suna and seals inspired by the Senju and sword techniques from Iron and she tied it all together like it had always been meant to be.

He wasn't hopeless, of course. He raced after her, spending countless hours drilling stances and practicing jutsu that she blazed through with a glimpse of her eyes. His chakra control was better than hers, and he could form genjutsu far more complex than hers. They fell apart the moment she used her eyes. His stamina was greater, his strength superior. When she used her eyes, he couldn't touch her in a spar.

Second best. Always, always second best! But she was so kind, was the thing. He'd asked her to teach him jutsu, and she instantly set her projects to the side and spent the next week going over the Phoenix Flames with him. She'd done nothing wrong... except be better than him.

And that was terrifying. She was left alive, for some unfathomable reason, but if Ita... if he came back, he knew she still wasn't strong enough to live. He'd kill her, and he'd be left alone. He wondered, sometimes, if she thought the same thing, if that was why she pushed herself so hard.

All he knew is that they both had to become strong enough that that couldn't happen. He refused to lose any more family.
What an omake! 10xp for you to allocate as you wish.

Our existence has butterflied a lot so far...but it doesn't affect everything.

I don't think keeping an eye on Mizuki is taking our expectations of canon for granted. If anything, assuming some changed circumstances from canon will totally derail Mizuki's plans and cause him to be caught when nobody else is expecting his treason is taking things for granted. We can't assume anything about his plot or how he'll do it.

Keeping an eye on Mizuki is a precaution, and one that really doesn't cost us all that much. Just a bit of time.

[x][Receptors] - Don't use them. The few extra points and a cool factor aren't worth it.
[x][Credit] - Show the examiner your Shadow Clone
[x][Mizuki] - Don't get involved. You're sure whatever he tries to pull the village will stop. Probably.

Even if Mizuki himself can't really do anything to Hisana if she's caught in the act, it'll still certainly draw the attention of whoever he's working for — doubly more so since Mizuki hasn't given any indication of treachery, making Hisana's stalking rather suspicious.

Excuses like stealth training or *cough* lovey dovey reasons are also pretty weak since it's rather out of place for Hisana's character to suddenly start doing so.

I'm honestly a bit confused about some of the recent votes for not doing anything and not giving a reason for it...when the vote itself has Hisana be uncertain that the village will notice/stop Mizuki in time if he does something. That 'Probably' sounds like a 'maybe' ready to bite us in the ass.

One thing I mentioned briefly, but is worth more mention is that keeping an eye on Mizuki has at least a chance of catching him in the act.

This would give us a chance at a real fight before the canon timeline really kicks off. That's a chance at more XP and a chance to unlock the sharingan further.

Doing nothing...doesn't have a chance at us gaining anything.

That's some flimsy reasoning based on very specific requirements for how things will go down.

It assumes Hisana will need to tail Mizuki in a suspicious fashion to keep an eye on him, when most of the day they're around the school and she has plenty of legitimate reason to be nearby.

It assumes Hisana even gets noticed and instead of panicking/fleeing/attacking/acting nonchalant/anything else...Mizuki...what? Raises a stink that he thinks a student is following him around. Because she thinks he's a spy? Did she say that? Why might she think that, Mizuki? (asking that from the POV of anyone he tells this to). And even then we have our lie of 'practice' or 'stalking', which while awkward is perfectly plausible.

We don't know if Mizuki is working for anyone at this point. But drawing attention to his activities can also be a good thing. If he starts his plan today, but calls it off, and by some miracle manages to avoid getting caught, at least there's people looking at him NOW.

Sorry...but your scenario of Mizuki somehow turning this around on Hisana in a spontaneous mastermind moment isn't going to happen. Even if he tried, it's just as easy to turn to our advantage with a bit of plausible deniability (doesn't have to be proven, just plausible).

Even with all that, your supposed consequences assume that Mizuki IS up to something. And ignoring it means quite possibly letting him get away with whatever he's planning.

The risks of keeping an eye on Mizuki are extremely low. At worst we waste time and/or look like a weirdo. The possible rewards are high. If he is up to something we have a better chance than anyone (since we're LOOKING) to stop him. And if it comes to a fight we have potential gains in XP/Sharingan.

Not keeping an eye on Mizuki risks him getting away with whatever he's planning and gains us nothing other than not taking any chances. At least in the short term. Because letting a traitor get away with whatever he's planning could cost us dearly later.

Dude, Hisana is already under scrutiny; she can't actually make it worse.
Canon Sasuke didn't have to do anything to end up on Orochimaru's shopping list. And even freaking civilians were checking for him

We are one of only two Uchiha in Konoha. We cannot avoid attention.
And given that you are voting the genin Uchiha display a B-rank ninjutsu technique for extra credit, I presume you aren't really bothering either.
Excuses like stealth training or *cough* lovey dovey reasons are also pretty weak since it's rather out of place for Hisana's character to suddenly start doing so.
Let me refresh your memory.
Merger 1.4
"Settle down, everyone! Today, we're going to be practicing the Clone Jutsu - I hope you've all being doing your homework, because I'm going to be calling you up to perform it in front of the class throughout the lesson. Now, for those of you who need a reminder..." Mizuki lectured, explaining the basics of the clone jutsu. Hisana put her head on her arms, nearly hiding her eyes, and activated her Sharingan just before Mizuki demonstrated the jutsu. With her enhanced reflexes, she could just about catch the moment he noticed her doing it.
That was her first day at the academy.

Acquisitions 2.1:
"I can't believe we're gonna get to watch real ninja fight!" Naruto said, as they walked leisurely towards the stadium. Hisana had actually dyed her hair pink (she'd wanted to do it before she'd died, but never found the time), worn a completely different style of clothing, and used a few bits from a disguise kit to change up the shape of her face. Sasuke was just wearing a shirt without the Uchiha symbol on it and a hat. She'd picked up a pair of cheap sunglasses from a convenience store and confirmed that they didn't stop her copying of jutsu.
This was quite literally the first update after Sasuke woke up, with both Sasuke and Naruto in tow.
If you think that disguise fooled anyone serious, or the security team that was likely shadowing the vulnerable orphans at a time when there were lots of foreigners in the village....

Suffice it to say that Uchiha Hisana has an established reputation for taking initiative to train herself and to hide her actions from the general public. Testing herself by following a chuunin around covertly is something that would raise zero eyebrows from anyone.

Furthermore, one of her friends is Uzumaki Naruto. The guy who invented Oiroke no Jutsu. Who canonically pranked his jounin-sensei.
Disguise and tracking is entirely believable from him or his friends.

Hisana is number 3 on his shopping list of eyes to collect. Itachi is number 1, but that did not work out for him and he had to leave Akatsuki. Sasuke would be number 2, related to Itachi so there is a good chance he has a set of eyes just as good as Itachi currently has. Sasuke also would likely be easy to manipulate, due to his presumed revenge drive. Hisana is merely number 3, a base Sharingan and a clan bastard. She has the eyes however there is no easy gauge on how strong they may get. She however is a much better source of genetic material for him.

I figure that anyone who matters already knows how aggressive Hisana is pushing herself, after all it isn't like she among the last of her clan, going out to be a child soldier while being a top kidnap target for any number of nations or groups too. Almost like she knows what she is going into except that her ideas have been more unusual then may be expected. Who would expect some 11 or 12 year old kid to come up with her own Chakra storage seal before finishing the Academy?

Hisana is number 3 on his shopping list of eyes to collect.
I don't think Orochimaru has a particular preference as long as it has Sharingan eyes.
If anything, the fact that Hisana's eyes activated during the massacre when Sasuke's seemingly didn't would make her more attractive than him.
She however is a much better source of genetic material for him.
Nah.
Guys outproduce ladies in that area by multiple orders of magnitude.
I figure that anyone who matters already knows how aggressive Hisana is pushing herself,
This.
Her family and clan were almost wiped out, and the perp is still alive and active.
Her pushing the envelope is an expected consequence, much like canon Sasuke topping his class, or Kakashi making jounin at 13 after his dad died.

[][Mizuki] - Don't get involved. You're sure whatever he tries to pull the village will stop. Probably.

We're 'probably' sure the village will stop him? Probably...that doesn't sound sure at all. It's better to take precautions and be wrong/waste time than to not take precautions and pay for it. Especially when it doesn't cost us much of anything.

[][Mizuki] - Keep an eye on Mizuki all day. You don't trust him as far as you could throw him.

This is completely accurate. We have no reason to think ripples from canon have made Mizuki less of a traitor. We definitely cannot trust him. If we're wrong about him plotting something now all we do is waste time and maybe look weird by keeping an eye on him (though we even have plausible excuses for it). If we're right we stop a plot, and we may get to fight him.

I think I've made all the arguments I can about keeping an eye on Mizuki unless something else comes up. I hope I manage to change some minds of the people who have voted already. Or if you're viewing the thread and haven't voted yet, read the arguments and decide for yourself. But you may want to do so soon.

"You ready?" Hisana asked, as Sasuke put the last of his shuriken in his weapons pouch. She, of course, had them sealed away. She'd decided on using the receptor-stamped shuriken - she could afford to live a little over small time stuff like this. She almost put a Raven on Mizuki's tail, but thought better of it. She had derailed any possibility of him coercing Naruto to steal the forbidden scroll, and in any case it wasn't like he had to act on his evilness today. It would have been paranoid and absurd to follow him because events that couldn't possibly occur.

"I think so. It's weird to think that we're going to be real ninja after this... but he was a genin at an age we were still civilians." Sasuke said, simmering.

"And the Sanin graduated at the age we will." Hisana replied, and Sasuke's eyes widened.

"Really? I'd have thought they graduated young." Sasuke said, looking genuinely surprised.

"Nope, standard graduation. So get going and graduate already - that blond maniac is probably running up and down the compound's walls waiting for us." Hisana said, and they got a move on. Most of the time, Sasuke was a well adjusted kid. Whenever he got reminded strongly of his brother, however, she could see the scars that would never fully heal.

Whilst Hisana had been exaggerating by a bit, she wasn't far off. Naruto was waiting for them by the gates, pacing around rapidly with nervous energy.

"Can you guys believe it, we're gonna graduate today! Finally, after all those years we get to show everyone how awesome we are, yeah!" Naruto said in his normal tone of voice, which was of course loud and sometimes annoying.

"Kai." Hisana said blithely, making the proper handsign. "No, it does appear to be our real graduation day and not a genjutsu. Somehow we have managed to pass all the grueling tests and dangerous situations that we have been confronted with on our journey, but we have managed to make it to the final exam; along with our entire class." Hisana said.

"Yeah - wait, that's more of your stupid sarcasm!" Naruto replied, only mildly offended.

+++++
The paper test was relatively easy even for normal prospective genin, and Hisana's extra six years of schooling allowed her to essentially breeze through it. Even Naruto had, with extensive coaching, managed to do pretty well on practice tests. If you were aiming for the top spot in the rankings, however, you needed perfect marks simply to compete.

After that was taijutsu, which saw her dismantle a poor genin here on a D-Rank mission to serve as a sparring partner. He'd taken it well though, and laughed where others might have gotten angry. She had probably been a little too severe in her demolishing of him, but there was that top ranking to think about.

Then it came time for throwing weapons. Iruka was supervising them on this test, and he had them all lined up to use one throwing station at a time, with a range of targets at different ranges. The further away the target you hit was, the more points you got. However, the penalty for not getting your weapon in the target zone on the dummy was severe enough to make you consider aiming for a closer target.

"This will be just like all your other throwing tests - ten shuriken, two kunai. You get three attempts, with only the highest scoring counting for your marks. Collect your weapons before you leave, and if you want to graduate sometime in the next decade, wait till the person in front of you is clear of the range!" Iruka said, like he always did. The man took his students' safety seriously. They were lined up by ranking, so Sasuke was first. He did very well, almost perfect in fact, on all three tries which led to much gasping and clapping on behalf of his female admirers.

Then it was Hisana's turn. She was going to show these brats a thing or two about how to take a ninja test.

She waited for Sasuke to collect his weapons, and then unsealed her own. She elected to throw her kunai first, so as to give her shuriken the atmosphere they deserved. Her two kunai hit two of the most distant targets right in the throat, a perfect shot. Then she unsealed her Shuriken.

"I've been practicing really hard to do this, so please pay attention everyone!" Hisana said, and turned around. The class was confused, and only grew more so as she threw her shuriken backwards. They zoomed across the range, hitting the most distant targets in places like the eyes, groin and throat, only to bounce off and start to hit every other target on their way back to the front like ten demented pinballs in a series of increasingly improbable bounces. After hitting every target save the nearest, they bounced up and over her classmates, coming back down to slam into the nearest target's chest; where the spelled out "Hisana".

"H-h-how...?" Iruka muttered, valiantly trying to calculate her score; with the rest of the class mirroring his expression. Hisana merrily went along to collect her weapons and walked onwards to the next stage of the testing, the extra credit section. A chunin who taught another class was administering this section, a woman with a tired looking face.

"Okay, you're up next Miss Uchiha. Whenever you're ready." The woman said, and Hisana nodded, then made the seal for the shadow clone jutsu. In a puff of smoke, a solid clone came into life next to her, waved and the instructor and then walked over to her and touched lightly on the arm. "Oh, a shadow clone? Very impressive, very impressive indeed. Well, you've only got the ninjutsu test to go now." The woman said, smiling at Hisana. She jogged on over to the classroom, and went inside. Iruka and Mizuki were waiting for her, with a table full of forehead protectors.

"The jutsu for this year's test is the clone jutsu. Please make three or more clones, and then you're done." Mizuki said, and Hisana created three sealess clones. She'd worked damn hard on getting that down so that she could use it sword in hand, and there was no way she wasn't going to show it off.

"Well done, Hisana. Please get your paperwork done over this week, then come back for team assignments! And, on, a personal note - congratulations on shattering the Academy throwing record. I don't think you'll ever tell me how you did it, but it might just have been the most impressive trick I've ever seen a student pull." Iruka said, smiling. Hisana merely bowed, picked up her headband, and moved onto the next room.
+++++
Naruto was ecstatic at graduating, and all three of them wanted to chat with their classmates before they went their separate ways for a week. Hisana flatly refused to tell anyone how she'd done her stunt with the shuriken, though Naruto and Sasuke must have worked it out. Sakura even managed to have a relatively normal conversation with Sasuke, in which he praised her Clerical Palm jutsu and she nearly fainted. She and another nervous looking student were pulled away by Mizuki who wanted to talk about "test irregularities" but Hisana wasn't worried for Sakura.

Then she felt the other students chakra spike and massively decline.

Shit shit shit shit. She'd assumed Naruto wasn't in a position to be manipulated by Mizuki, but she hadn't counted on him taking hostages. If he wanted to influence Naruto by taking one, Sakura was the easiest target by far. Hisana summoned her sword, attached it and it's scabbard to her side and took off at speed after the fading chakra signature, Naruto and Sasuke following her out of shock more than anything else.

The student who'd cheated on his test lay unconscious on the floor, bleeding from a head wound but alive. Hisana's mind instantly snapped into tactical gear - no time to think things out, no time to argue.

"Sasuke, alert Iruka and the other teachers, and guard the students whilst getting this guy to hospital. If they have it hand, come after us with reinforcements. Naruto, spiral search pattern for any other suspicious people with your clones, send one with Sasuke and follow along with me." Hisana said, and after a second the two boys sprung into action without complaint.

She herself sped off after the ever more distant chakra signatures of Sakura and Mizuki. Naruto clones were everywhere, and the boy himself was following after her. They jumped across the rooftops, but Mizuki was at least as fast as them and they were barely catching up. They passed no senior ninja, and Hisana was loathe to endanger genin rushing about as the alarm claxons began to sound. She merely signalled the sign for "EMERGENCY; MAKE WAY".

The two chakra signatures stopped a little bit outside the walls, in secluded clearing. A third, stronger one had joined them, and she and Naruto made it there in only a few minutes. She could feel a mass of chakra signatures racing towards them, perhaps two minutes out. Sasuke and Iruka were amongst them.

"Naruto, I need you to have a clone do the replacement jutsu with Sakura - then your primary responsibility is to get her home safe. Do you understand?" Hisana asked, and he nodded. "Good, because we have about no time left to do it - let's go." She said, and they along with a newly created clone leapt into the clearing. The clone swapped itself with Sakura, poofing in the process, but leaving her safe in Naruto's arms.

Mizuki looked pissed as hell, and the ninja standing near him was wearing a trenchcoat and carrying a huge katana. He looked to be around twenty, and had a large sealing scroll on his back.

"Seems like you succeed at drawing out the nine-tails brat a little too well, eh?" The mystery ninja said, but Mizuki merely growled. She could see his curse mark with her Sharingan, active as soon as they'd closed, and the tigerlike ripples were already spreading across his flesh. "I'll take the aberration and deal with it once and for all, you take the brat and get this back on track." The trenchcoat ninja said. He wore no headband, and beneath the coat she could see heavy metal armour.

She put her hands on her sword, and charged forward as Naruto summoned a horde of clones. The other ninja took the sealing scroll and rolled it out, seals extending from it a massive spiral pattern. He made to slam his hand down, but leapt backwards as Hisana exploded into an Iaido strike; unsheathing her sword as it glowed crimson with chakra flow. He managed to avoid the first strike, and made to leap forwards to complete the seal only to have Hisana swing three blades of wind his way.

The trenchcoated ninja drew his katana and leapt backwards, throwing kunai at Hisana. Able to easily see their paths with her Sharingan, she sidestepped them all save for one which she caught and threw back to him. The man had his shoulder nicked in a spurt of blood, and Hisana capitalised on his distraction by blinding him with a Sharingan genjutsu and landing an upwards slash across his torso.

Her wind-chakra enhanced blade cut through the thin steel of his armour, carving a bloody ruin out of his chest. He stumbled backwards, blind and dying, and threw one last, bloodied kunai at her as he cursed her.

"Fuck you, bitch!" As he cursed at her in english, to be precise. Hisana was so shocked that she continued moving like she was trained to, and beheaded him with a simple, mechanical stroke.

Then, of course, the seal activated off of the blood on the kunai; and what looked to be an entire army of ninja appeared in a blast of smoke.

Let's be smart about this. We don't need to beat these guys on our own, and trying to is pointlessly risky.

Oh fucking god damn self righteous we must follow canon self inserts that love wearing edgy costumes.

We need to hunt them down and kill them all. No fucking mercy.

I may be jumping the gun here. But damn did that bring out some memories. Bitter ones.
