Interfacing with alien gods as well as their followers is definitely gonna be a feature of the Age of Strife arc.
A bit confused by this, do you mean like after we're in space or also now? Or are we on the brink of the age of strife because there seems to be an extreme lack of warp storms everywhere and does that mean that humanity is currently in the DAoT?

After you're in space - once you get there there'll be a timeskip covering your initial expansion into an interstellar empire, and the Age of Strife proper will really kick off. Right now it's just on the brink of things.

How long a period will that timeskip be, and is there anything we can ensure is researched during that time (read: Void Sanctums and Slaan Spawning)?

Several centuries at least - and yeah, you'll get a generalized list of research that you conduct during that time, and slann spawning, void sanctums etc will definitely be on that list.

Hopefully not too much of a timeskip.
I'd still dearly like to see segments describing bits and pieces of early Lizardman space exploration, milestones, setbacks, achievements.
First spaceworthy vessel. First interplanetary trip. First interstellar ship. First space battle.

Not BAM - you've got 12 star systems under your belt. Get on with it.

I hope...

I don't at all mean to brag or speak in an … unnecessarily aggrandizing fashion about myself; I strive to keep a realistic view of myself and my capabilities whenever possible. This is a skill I've gotten better at over the years, and I intend to keep improving on it for as long as I can, since I started out at an absolutely horrific level.

I give all this preamble to say this: look at the amount of ridiculous, nerdy, arbitrary, and arguably flat-out unnecessary detail I've put into this quest. Sure I've got a cool plot and story ideas drawn up and all sorts of killer twists for the future and all that, but really I started this quest because I wanted to ramble about cool magic lizard worldbuilding ideas in a way that tricks people into actually reading them rather than going 'oh cool, that's interesting' and changing the topic like what happens whenever I try to explain this quest to anyone IRL.

Do you really think there's any way I'm not going to go absolutely fucking ham on unique transitional periods like that?

I should have known not to doubt you, Xantalos.
Honestly, your storytelling style is what I, personally, aspire to. o7
Thank you for alleviating any concerns I may have had on the matter.

Would be kinda funny if we do nuclear research before the traditional engine.

Imagine going from the power of the atomic nucleus to regular old fossil fuels.

Can't help but feel that running your stuff off of exploding fossilized dinosaurs would be kinda ironic what with y'all being, well, dinosaurs.

Actually wait what am I saying, that's the most Warhammer thing I've thought of in a while. I'll save that for if y'all go through an apocalypse and lose all your tech again.

Hey, this way they'll continue to serve the Great Plan even after death.

Does this planet even have fossil fuels? It's basically entirely artificial and the biosphere is relatively recent.

ACKSHUALLY, there's a theory according to which, oil has an abiotic origin.
It's only Wikipedia, but it's a start.

There is also that most oil is probably actuall fossilized plants, with only one or two percentage points being actual crushed dinosaur. Ferns simply had way more overall biomass.

Well, literally one of the possibilities for promethium is that it's magical oil that burns vastly hotter than oil ought to because magic, likely being the fossilized remains of something during the war in heaven. another is that it's a hydrocarbon fusion feedstock that can also be burned to power a tank in a pinch. Whether the fusion actually benefits from having the carbon in there for some weird and likely warp-influenced reason or if they could just as easily use water or tanks of liquid hydrogen but don't because they're painfully dogma bound is less clear.

The third big one is that the imperium really is just that dumb and is literally burning oil onboard its ships, but somehow I realllllly doubt we'd be so lucky as to deal with an imperium that feeble :p

I'm looking forwards to seeing how we effect the Age of Strife and the Eldar Dominion.
Pretty much not, being frank about it. The societal conditions are already present and the Lizardmen will have far too little force to accomplish anything beyond getting bonked by a singular Fall!dar and pleasure barge.

Well. I suppose as a minor power there might be some good done, if unlikely. And there is a chance that the Emperor will show up to ask to learn about psiengineering depending on what world building Xantalos is using.

At the start of our ramp-up, yes. By the end of it, we might actually be able to defend ourselves or quietly influence things in certain ways. Hard to say.

I imagine that our biggest advantages on the strategic level will be the Astromantic/Geomantic Web and the Slann (particularly once we can start making more of them).
They're essentially ... what is it in 40k? Alpha off the geomantic web, alpha+ on it, to various degrees of + depending on how powerful the web is.
Basically, even 5th gens can reliably outpower and outcast pretty much any non-primarch human psyker, and most eldar to boot barring the more senior farseers and such. Goes up from there, to the point where they're effectively strategic weapons rather than mere battlefield psykers.
And unlike practically every other 'mundane' psyker out there, the Slann aren't going to be constantly at risk of losing control or being possessed by daemons etc.
