Renascence: A Homura Quest

Honorifics or Western-style Titles? I've used both before, which is bothersomely inconsistent

Idle musing. What would Mami's reaction be if we just said ONE word in english?

Like when ordering food, we used the proper english name for western food.

Raised eyebrow. She can wildly misinterpret things, but only so far. Ordering food is ordering food...you'll have to directly address her to have any effect.

[q] say Za Waurdo at random.
That word is poor English for the world, what effect would that have? (Jojo's Bizzare adventure reference)

[x] Caveat: If any general craziness occurs in the restaurant that is not directly life-threatening, ignore it, but keep the food safe.
-[x] If ignoring it is impractical, have Sayaka or Kyouko deal with it, depending on the exact nature of the problem.
Im a little iffy on this...dont like ignoring things too much...I figure Higure would let us choose between acting on it or waiting and continue on with the meal if something happens...

And Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders had already finished long before Homura's loop began, so it's not impossible for her to have been exposed to it. The issue is that it would be massively OOC for Homura to randomly start quoting DIO.

I got the impression that Moemura was as geeky as one could get~

For lack of better impact words at the right time quoting anime is not that weird...

Is it?

Ah, but that's nerdy. Not geeky. There is a difference.

Homura was the quiet girl with no friends who was smart (even if she fell behind while in the hospital) and knew how to find the answers to her problems through research. She was not the quiet girl with massive manga collections who's constantly reading.

Please do, We can tackle it if something does ends up happening...

More organic like.

Stop it with the condescending comments.
Sorry, still it is true. But hey, it was silly in a good way when you tried to figure out how to fit "Za Waurdo" into Homura's time stop.(also, social is not my strong point) You still sometimes go for bad shinies though, but I have made that mistake as well, happens to anybody who plays games.

[x] Plan: Kinematics

It looks like it covers all our bases for this particular update. While giving out all this information early on didn't work so well in some of the canon loops, I'm confident in our ability to manage whatever consequences we may encounter.

Oh, right, speaking of information delivered... Did we want to allow for the lichbomb to come out, here? It would allow controlled delivery of that info, and the Homumind says Mami can handle it. I'm just not sure how far we want to push Mami this loop.

Additionally, is that something we want Nanoha to learn immediately? (At least, I think she hasn't learned it yet.) It might make her more sympathetic ... it might make her wary of us, especially if we haven't smoothed the waters before she learns of it. Hm, we didn't tell Sayaka about it, did we?

Hmm. Yeah. It would probably also throw a wrench in the idea of Mami inviting Nanoha to stay with her. Probably best to let it pass, for now.

As for Sayaka — She seemed to have learned a lot about Homura with her viewing ability. Even if she forgot most of it, there's likely good odds that she's aware of any given secret Homura has, at least on the magical girl side of things.

She also seems to be getting better and more assertive about using her perceptive abilities. It was certainly implied that she could use it to see when someone is telling the truth.

Speaking of which, might perhaps want to modify the "official propaganda" line to make it clear (at least in retrospect) that we're just parroting the party line, not asserting that as true. Sayaka is likely to be able to see past it (if she bothers to look), and Kyouko probably won't be happy about us giving that speech in a way such as reinforce the lie for Mami.

Edit: Added this clarification for that section:
--[] Be sure to phrase it more as "this is what people say", rather than "this is the truth".

Vote Tally : Renascence: A Homura Quest | Page 267 | Sufficient Velocity
##### NetTally 1.1.10
[x] Tone: Polite
[x] Objective 1: Explain things to Nanoha while maintaining goodwill
[x] Objective 2: Bring Mami into current context while not tripping any "bad end" flags
[x] Phase 1: Ordering
-[x] Goal: Reinforce the "humanness" of the interactions, to get Nanoha and Mami seeing everyone more as "people" than "problems" or "enemies".
-[x] Greet and include Nanoha at the table.
--[x] If she's stubborn: "We're not doing any serious talking until the food gets here."
-[x] Apologize for overreaction last night.
-[x] Introduce Nanoha to Mami.
--[x] Note Mami as the most skilled magus we are aware of.
-[x] Shift conversation to ordering dinner for the time being.
--[x] "Order anything you like; I'm paying."
--[x] "Kyouko, a cheesecake is not a proper meal."
--[x] Order extra biscuits. Make sure Kyouko can't steal them.
[x] Phase 2: Dinner
-[x] Goal: Bring Nanoha up to speed on Puella Magi, while keeping everyone 'on par' in relative status.
-[x] Goal: Confirm our story with Kyouko's, to help Mami's perception that we're telling the truth
-[x] Introduce the different groups of magical girl types.
--[x] Allow Sayaka to introduce herself.
-[x] Review the events of last night, and actions taken by different people.
-[x] Including the confrontation over the confusion regarding the nature of witches, Lost Logia, etc.
-[x] Provide the "official" version of propaganda for Puella Magi.
--[x] Be sure to phrase it more as "this is what people say", rather than "this is the truth".
--[x] Is a hint to Kyouko that we don't want to be discussing the 'real' secrets of Puella Magi right now.
-[x] Detail the basic consequences of living as a Puella Magi: The duty and need to hunt witches, grief seeds, and similar matters.
-[x] Explain that grief seeds are not Lost Logia. Provide details and analogies, as needed.
-[x] Demonstrate the use of a grief seed on your own soul gem.
--[x] If Kyouko overreacts, direct her (via telepathy) to ask Sayaka about it later, but assure her that it had nothing to do with SAO.
-[x] Allow dinner to proceed, either in a lighter tone, or answering questions, as needed.
[x] Phase 3: Late dinner/Dessert
-[x] Goal: Get a handle on Walpurgisnacht and related implications.
-[x] Secondary goal: Try to nudge Mami into inviting Nanoha to stay with her.
-[x] Review mention of Walpurgisnacht.
-[x] Discuss appearance of anomalies, including Nanoha.
-[x] This isn't Nanoha's universe.
--[x] "Ah, speaking of which, you are holding up OK, right? You mentioned you hadn't been able to contact your friends."
-[x] Reassure Mami that it is possible to defeat Walpurgisnacht, but there are always risks involved.
--[x] The trick is not sacrificing something important in order to win.
--[x] It's something I'm always working on.
-[x] Move to lighter topics, but try to gain the implicit acceptance of meeting together again in the future.

[X] Tell her ...
- [X] Apologize for our over-reaction last night, and explain that it's one of the hazards of expending too much magic too quickly.
- [X] Introduce her to Mami, and explain that this - and the theater - are actually in her territory, and that she's the most skilled Magus we're aware of.
- [X] If she has any questions about Witches, answer them as safely as we can.
- [X] Explain Puella Magi to her, and the two main varieties (nice ones like Mami, ones who are ... less nice like ourself and Kyouko).
- [X] *After Dinner* If she's calm, Walpurgisnacht.
[X] Don't tell her ...
- [X] Too much about ourselves and our motivations; Magi often have secrets they don't like telling anyone.
[X] Ask her ...
- [X] How she got here.
- [X] If she needs help with anything / How she's holding up.

[x] "Of course. I'm glad you could join us."
[x] Stand up and pull out a chair for Nanoha.
[x] Apologize for our over-reaction last night, and explain that it's one of the hazards of expending too much magic too quickly.
[x] Introduce her to Mami, and explain that this — and the theater — are actually in her territory, and that she's the most skilled Magus we're aware of.
[x] However, we're here for dinner. I haven't had anything proper to eat since breakfast, and it would be nice to have something to eat while we're talking.
-[x] Order anything you like; I'm paying.
-[x] Kyouko, a cheesecake is not a proper meal.
-[x] Order extra biscuits. Make sure Kyouko can't steal them.
[x] Once food is ordered (with a pause when food arrives), and we can start talking...
-[x] First, a few introductions. Tomoe-san, Kyouko and I are Puella Magi — magical girls of a very specific sort.
-[x] Nanoha-san is... Nanoha, as far as I can tell. How she managed to end up in our world, I don't know, but she seems like the real deal.
-[x] And Sayaka is... well, do you want to tell them yourself?
-[x] Give a summary of the events last night to Mami: A conglomerate "witch"; Kyouko destroying the barrier; Nanoha destroying the angel; Sayaka killing the witch.
-[x] And the confrontation over the confusion about the nature of witches and grief seeds and such. Which is what Nanoha here is hoping to learn more about.
-[x] Provide the "official" version of propaganda for Puella Magi.
-[x] Details the basic consequences of living as a Puella Magi: The duty and need to hunt witches, grief seeds, and similar matters.
-[x] Explain that grief seeds are not Lost Logia. Logia are the artifacts of an ancient civilization. Grief seeds only come into existence with the defeat of a witch; they simply do not exist before the witch is created, nor are they the product of some actual Lost Logia.
-[x] However, even if they were Lost Logia, it's still foolhardy to simply take them without consideration of the consequences of your own actions. Consider a man with a weak heart, who's only able to survive because of a Logia he possessed. Taking it away from him merely means that he's now going to die.
-[x] For Puella Magi, these [grief seed] are what we need to "not die".
--[x] Demonstrate the use of a grief seed on your own soul gem.
--[x] If Kyouko overreacts, direct her (via telepathy) to ask Sayaka about it later, but assure her that it had nothing to do with SAO.
[x] Focus on the meal for a while, to get past the awkwardness of the conversation.
[x] In any case, what's more important right now, for us, is the future. In addition to what I mentioned to Tomoe-san, there are implications of Nanoha herself being here, as well as the angel-witch. In fact, there are a number of things I've come across recently that make me uncomfortable — things that shouldn't be here.
[x] This isn't Nanoha's universe.
-[x] Ah, speaking of which, you are holding up OK, right? You mentioned you hadn't been able to contact your friends.
[x] Discuss some of the anomalies that have been encountered, and suspicions that a wish may have changed the past.
[x] However, even aside from that, there's still the issue of Walpurgisnacht. It's not a witch we can just ignore or dismiss, or even run from. <the last to Nanoha, specifically>
[x] It is possible to defeat it. The trick is figuring out how to do so without losing something you're not willing to sacrifice.
[x] I'm working on figuring out exactly how to go about that.
[x] Try to switch to more light-hearted topics when we can get to dessert. We can always talk about more the next time we get together.

Alright, this I can work with. You'll presently be following the plan in green.

I'll be honest and admit my face on looking at the plans is still a kinda slack jawed looking of *wow that's a lot of stuff*. But I haven't really come up with much myself for social stuff.

...

Friendship beam?

Yeah, I don't think that 10 minutes is going to change that.
[x] Kinematics
Probably not, but it's in the rules. I try to stand by what I say, even when it isn't likely to matter.
