Renascence: A Homura Quest

Might as well just say "acquiring," since we're not exactly paying back the providers here.
Ah, but "acquiring" doesn't give both the impression of browsing and selecting from an existing stock, or provide both a reasonable euphemism from casual conversation as well as the humerous juxtaposition of the brief mental image of Homura in a perfectly ordinary grocery store- full of armaments, picking them out like radishes or lettuce or melons and filling a shopping cart.

... possibly "shopping" doesn't actually normally provoke the latter, but it's been a long day and I should go and be unconscious now, good night.

[X] just have fun, but keep a ear out for rumors.
[X] with Sayaka and Madoka, get them to visit Kamijou, hang out , catch up for awhile, ask if he knows about the game and Kayaba, se if he knows any beta testers, then try to track down Nagisa, with her cancer mother, without telling Madoka but tell Sayaka about your goal, make a excuse about seeing the nurse about games that Kamijou can enjoy, see whether you or Sayaka can heal the mother.
[x] contact Oriko see, how she is doing, and the status of her friends and family, see about setting up a future dinner meeting with Nanoha, Kyoko and Sayaka more relaxation than anything.
[X] Of the anomalies of the timeline besides the angel, Nanoha and Yuuko, the other uunknowns at this point is Kayaba, Oriko, the cat and the regenerating monster, dream figures that have haunted you before the appearance of the regenerating monster, and the more benign dream figures of the man and girl.
-[x]Kayaba is the easiest to investigate first, he is a mere human, atleast he us supposed to be one, juat as you are supposed to be a shy moe type middle schooler, he relies on the virtual reality and players, thus the nervgear, try to find a beta tester, swap your nervgear with him or her and bring it back to nanoha for investigation, try to find out more about the 'skynet' thing or get a book about computer programming.
[X] At night contact kyubey, gwt a status report of the overpowered regeneraring monster to see where he is, is he still trap in the barrier, ascertain the monater supposedly 'killed' by Sayaka. Ask Kyubey if he knows where the cat is.

You heave a sigh of relief, glancing at your friends, "Well, that ruined our plans for the afternoon. I...think some relaxation is in order, now."

Sayaka gives you a look, and nods in agreement, "Yeah, I think that might be for the best. I'll go grab the Wii. We can fire up Smash or something. You two get comfortable."

Madoka nods, smiling, and you try to relax. She turns to you, "So...um...Homura-chan--is it okay if I call you Homura-chan?"

You nod instantly, a feeling of comfort filling you at the sound of your name, spoken in her voice.

"Oh, good! Ah, it's fine for you to call me Madoka, of course! So...um...oh! Who's your main?"

You shrug, "I...don't really play enough, anymore. I used to main Snake, but, since becoming a Magical Girl, I've lost some of my interest in the competitive scene. If I had to pick one...I'd say Link. What about you?"

It's Zelda. You've had this conversation several times before, and it's always Zelda. Well, except that one time...

"Zelda! I know she's low-tier, but...ah, she's really underused, you know? It's all about spacing and prediction! Tactics, not reflexes!"

You nod, accepting her answer. You're not sure how well that would hold up in tournament play, but she is very good with the character, "Hmm...well, we'll have to see, then. Sayaka will be...let me guess, she plays Marth?"

Madoka giggles, "Who else? Sayaka-chan loves to play the hero, after all. Personally, I prefer Wisdom."

'So says the bravest, most powerful girl I've ever met.'

"Mmhm. I just like to have options. Lots of different gear I can use in creative ways..." '...and the ability to save you every time.'

She ponders that for a second, "You only had a Shield, though?"

'Aaannnd now we're back on Magical Girl topics.'

"You'd be surprised, I have--"

You hear a shout from Sayaka's room, "Hands off my ice cream, Homura!"

You give Madoka a deadpan look as you shout back, "I wasn't going for it, actually, but now that you mention it!"

You stand, offering Madoka a hand up, which she takes with a giggle and a smile, and lead her to the freezer, examining the tubs of ice cream you bought earlier, before turning to Madoka, "Flavor?"

"Rocky Road."

'Dammit, Madoka...' You sigh slightly, shaking your head, and pull the tub out, "Here you go." It wasn't like you could deny her her favorite.

She takes it with a grateful smile, and begins filling a bowl.

You grab the strawberry cheesecake for yourself, calling out to Sayaka as you hear her footsteps approaching, "What flavor, Sayaka?"

There's a pause, "Um...huh...raspberry, I guess?"

You put the blueberry tub down, and switch, "Got it. You get things hooked up."

An hour later, you're all deep in the game, your ice cream long finished, and are furiously attempting to kill each other.

Which is, to say, you're trying not to die as Madoka teleports into you with Farore's Wind again and sidetilts you over her shoulder. Sayaka's clumsy attempts at playing Metaknight have killed her off quickly, to no one's shock--she should know that higher tier characters aren't necessarily going to get better results, if you haven't practiced with them enough.

You think you might have Madoka this time, though, as your bomb comes back down at your previous location. If she spotdodges, you'll have a chance to--no, she shielded. You leap to your feet and fire an arrow at her, but she drops her shield, sending it back with Nayru's Love before firing up Din's Fire. You take the hit to get a second shot off, hitting her and stopping her offensive spell at the cost of taking a few percent damage.

Quickly, you charge, dodging by the fireball she calls to intercept you...and straight into a lightning kick. The kick sends you out of bounds, and you heave a sigh, "GG, Madoka. GG."

She folds her arms in front of her, staring down her nose at the screen with a smug smile, before dissolving into giggles, "You too, Homura-chan. GG."

Sayaka simply lays sprawled out on her third of the couch, sighing heavily in melodramatic suffering, "I give up. You two are nuts. Let's do something different."

You shrug, glancing at Madoka, who nods. A bit reluctantly, you exit the game, and reach for the stack, "Maybe Mario Kart?"

Sayaka groans at that, "Nooo...not Blue Shellllsss..."

Madoka nods in agreement, "She's right. Let's play something that lets you win honestly, not something weighted."

"Black ops?

Madoka seems to think it over, but Sayaka shoots up, shaking her head furiously, "Oh no! Not against you, Rambo!"

There goes your easy win.

"How about..."

"You got DDR?"

Sayaka shakes her head, "Nah...never got around to buying a--wait, what the hell are you doing here!?"

"Hah! Slow on the uptake, huh Blue--oh, uh, sorry, Ribbons. Didn't know there was a normie here."

Madoka falls off the couch in surprise, staring up at the grinning form of Kyouko, who's leaning over the back of the couch, her crimson regalia making her Magical Girl status obvious.

You shake your head at her mischief, "You really should knock when visiting a friend, Kyouko? What would have happened if Sayaka's mother had been up?"

She pales visibly, "O-oh. I'm...uh, I'm really sorry, Sayaka. I wasn't thinking. Just came by to say hi. Stepped out to buy cake ingredients. Mami's in one of her moods."

You nod at that, quite familiar with her situation, "Of course."

Madoka finally regains her composure, pulling herself to her feet, "You...you're a Magical Girl!"

Kyouko cuts a look at you, and you shrug, "Potential."

"Ah, gotcha. You trying to be Mami while Mami isn't, or something?"

A shake of the head, "No. Just informing a friend."

She blanches a little, "Oh, yeah. That's a good idea. Does she know about..."

You nod.

Scratching the back of her head, she looks back at Madoka, "Yeah, I am. You're...you're not going to contract, right? It's definitely not worth it."

Madoka shakes her head, "I don't know about that. I'd hate to become a Witch, but imagine all the good I could do...besides, I--"

Kyouko scowls, poking her in the forehead and off her feet, "Nope. Don't start thinking that way. Witches eat people, and trying to save people with Wishes never ends well anyway. Just give up and live a normal life, for your own sake."

Madoka clambers to her feet, glaring, "I refuse! People need me, and I'm going to be there for them!"

Kyouko starts to argue back, but you lay your hand on her shoulder, "Don't. She's too determined for that."

The redhead grunts, biting into a stick of pocky with a flourish, before nodding, "Fine. Just don't be stupid. Make a Wish you regret, and you won't live to regret it for long." Nodding in satisfaction, the living proof to the contrary smirks, "You've got guts, Pink. I'll give you that. Feel free to come find me, if you need a hand. I'll kick in whoever's face you need, alright?"

Madoka opens her mouth to respond, only to close it. She thinks it over for a moment before nodding and smiling, "I will! Thank you, Kyouko-san! I'm sure we'll help a lot of people together!"

Kyouko gapes slightly, "Wait. No. That's not what I--!"

Madoka just smiles brightly, and Kyouko sighs, defeated, "...I guess we will, then."

She turns to you, "I'm going to head on, before I find myself signed up for charity work. Come visit, later. Mami's hanging in there, but...I'm not sure how long she'll be able to ignore it, you know?"

You nod and stand, heading to the freezer and grabbing a couple of tub of ice cream. You hand them to Kyouko, "These might help later."

She nods, slipping them...wherever her food goes...and leaves through front door with a wave. It locks behind her.

The moment it does, Sayaka sits up, growling, "Freakin' fireheaded, home-invading--"

"--apple-eating glutton. I know."

Sayaka sighs, leaning back against the couch, "...but she's a friend, huh?"

You nod.

She grunts, "Fine. I'm gonna kick her ass if she causes trouble for Madoka, though."

Madoka herself is still staring at the door, lost in thought. A moment later, she speaks up, "She's really a kind person, isn't she?"

You smile faintly, nodding, "Yes, she is. Just don't let her find out."

Madoka nods slowly, "Something happened to her."

"Yeah."

The seconds drag on in silence, and you try to think of a way to break it.

Sorry for the wait! It's been a crazy week.

Also, Kyouko utterly refuses to behave herself, and it's too IC for me to fight her on it.

...I approve of this interaction.

'So says the bravest, most powerful girl I've ever met.'
To be fair, she utterly fucks the system with at least one of her Wishes. I wouldn't be surprised if she had done it a few other times but she just wasn't strong enough yet to make it stick.

She's got all three I think. Or enough of all three after enough loops anyway.

Kyouko Best Waifu! :V

I'm just waiting for Homura to start doing the "Oh Sabrina Kyouko" meme.

Also... are we voting?

And yes, Kyouko and Madoka:

Homura: "It's no use, you won't win."

Madoka: *Beams at Kyouko*

Kyouko: "Grk."

Yes, it's just a Write-In only vote. Basically, Homura needs ideas, and you guys need a chance to stop fluffing around at some point, if you want to.

That said, you don't have to. This IS good for you San, after all.

I noticed we have an "Untitled Book" in our inventory, when/where did we pick that one up?

Also, I'm fine with some more Fluff. We got that Never Again perk, our Arsenal is doing alright, we need to get to Mami's soon-ish but that can be set aside for another hour or two maybe (let them have dinner first I think), Nanoha is... a thing I'm not sure if we need to do anything with right now? ...Although she might make a good Magical Theory teacher come to think of it. ...Probably already did think of it at some point, but eh.

Umm... Our Heart Condition is annoying, but we can't get any higher on the Amateur Cardiologist without a lot more general Medical Texts I think? I want to say it was something like needing a lot more general Med Texts read up before we could advance it into actually getting rid of our Heart Condition so that would stop draining us...

The untitled book was found during the Yakuza raid.

You need to get your medical skills up to treat your heart condition. Books are one way to do that.

Skill Tiers and Training Resources
Skills are rated from 0 to 100. Different skill levels correspond to different Skill Tiers:

Amateur 00 - 25
Journeyman 26 - 49
Professional 50 - 74
Legendary 75 - 99
Perfect 100
Skill Books also have Tiers, and cannot advance a Skill beyond their own Tier. Libraries operate in the same way, but have many more Charges to expend before becoming exhausted for a given reader.

The Internet can offer Amateur Tier training in any Skill.

Skill Tiers are important, in that some actions simply cannot be performed at lower Skill Tiers, and Traits may be obtained upon reaching a new Skill Tier in certain Skills.

Perfect Skills grant powerful beneficial Traits.

See the Training Actions tab of the Fleeting Time Turn System Informational post for general information on training Skills.

Training at the Legendary Tier almost universally requires one Train it through usage, although one might (usually through supernatural means) find other means of Training these Skills.
A properly worded Wish made when becoming a Magical Girl can grant a Legendary Tier skill to a person who previously did not possess that skill at all.

Also, for reference, what level is Kyosuke's Violin skill?

Let's leap-frog that and just make the person able to learn everything and anything ridiculously fast. Multiply all final Skill gains in any situation by [2, 5, 10, etc.].

That kind of Wish is very common, in fact.

Kyousuke is Professional Tier now. He's Legendary in adulthood.
