Renascence: A Homura Quest

ON THIS DAY, I, PHILIP HUNT-BULL, SWEAR THAT AS LONG AS MY DEATH DOES NOT OCCUR WITHOUT FOREWARNING, I SHALL ONE DAY READ BACK THROUGH THIS ENTIRE THREAD, BOOKMARKING EVERY SINGLE:
COLORED TEXT
OMAKE
OMAKE REWARD SUGGESTION
AND OMAKE REWARD CHOICE

THE PURPOSE BEHIND THIS RE-READ WILL BE TO THEN AFTERWARDS ASSIST IN THE UPDATING OF EXISTING SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIALS, AS WELL AS TO CREATE AN INDEX OF EVERY OMAKE REWARD REMOVED OR CHANGED DUE TO SYSTEM REWORKS.
IF, BY 2030, THIS RENASCENCE HAS REACHED ITS Golden Ending, THE PURPOSE OF THIS WORK WILL BE TO IMPROVE THE EXPIRIENCE FOR BINGERS. OTHERWISE, ITS PURPOSE WILL BE TO READY THE STAGE FOR THE QUEST'S NEXT REVIVAL.

This entire post has been my Golden Truth, and I have only not colored it as such due to respect for Higure.

I shall now preform an editing pass, including improvements to formating, before reading aloud all the stuff before I stopped capitalizing any letters other than I, press the checkbox next to "yes, I still want to post," then press post.

Edit: yesterday, I realized that my bucket list would consist entirely of works of fiction I haven't got around to experiencing yet. today, I realized I had something to add to my bucket list.

Edit the second: shit, just realized this would work as a Red Truth if I was willing to use that (which im not, cuz i don have dat privilege)
-Edit to Edit the second, the first: this is still My Golden Truth, as a statement of My Authorial Intent as author of this post, but I mean that if the Colored Truth system worked in real life, I'm pretty sure I could safely (mostly) comply if someone pointed at this post and said "Repeat it in Red!"

Edit III: to be clear, if I was using a color, the edits would still be in (mostly) white

So, like, I get that this is abandoned, but the threadmarks as well as the index are a complete fucking mess, and I have no idea how you're supposed to read this. At all.

This is a request to alter SOMETHING to make this readable for someone who wasn't here from the start.

You are going to have to be more specific in terms of 'it's a mess'. If you are referring to the fact that Omake are listed under main threadmarks? While it's not typical, all of them are also denoted as Omake in the threadmark title.

I guess it's the fact that it's still organized the way that it was on my initial read-through of the Quest means that I'm used to it, but I also never had issues figuring out which threadmark was the next story one versus an omke written by someone other than Higure.

I owe you all an update, and this is a good excuse to do so. Long story short, my social and professional lives have become very busy, and Renascence/writing in general have ended up being pushed into the background by all of that. I would like to return to my creative endeavors like this at some point, but I'm currently more focused on making something of myself and getting to somewhere I can take pride in. I may try to post an update, or at least some snippets of some sort, in the following weeks--I've found myself with a bit more time for things--but I won't make promises I may not keep.

Realistically, I do not know if Renascence will ever be properly completed. It was always a bit of an unreasonable project, though I didn't really grasp that when I first started this years ago. If I again make a concerted effort to complete this at some point, I will probably be making some necessary changes to accelerate our story, probably trying to finish within only a few loops, or somehow accelerating them vastly. It may not be as ideal as I would have liked, but that would at least give us a conclusion to our story.

I'll answer some of these old posts while I'm here, though it's been quite a long time in coming.

Higure, I have two questions:

Firstly, what are some things that Madoka has wished for (that Homura can remember)?

Secondly, can Homura make permanent magical items? It seems to be the case, given that she made the clock with the glowing numbers early on. If so, we might want to make a gun loaded in enchantments for Sherlock (he said he is in danger) and some barrier jacket analogues for Homura and those around her (given that her wish was to protect someone and that she has a barrier spell, this seems plausible). What would such an item even boost? Armor? Resistance (what was the point of differentiating these two things?)? Give extra wounds, like Nanoha's barrier jacket seemed to do? Resistance or extra wounds seem like they would be the best, as magical girls have such low armor that it is unlikely for them to be able to shrug off hits from major enemies unless the bonus given is huge.

Also, I have a suggestion on upcoming actions. Early on, we grabbed a list of Yakuza locations. We might want to dispatch Oriko and Kirika to go loot those, and let them keep part of the money as compensation for helping us. The Yakuza know that someone took this, and are already probably in the process of moving to new safehouses, so this is kind of time sensitive. This would probably just take an e-mail to set up, and Oriko may see us sending this email before we actually send it.
Madoka Wishes: The resurrection of her friends/everyone killed in Mitakihara in the last few months. The power to defeat Walpurgisnacht. To know how to save everyone--Homura had hopes for that one, but Madoka lost her mind as a result and Witched. There have been a tremendous number. Notably, her Canon Wish has never been made, nor anything close to it.

Permanent Items: Permanent, no. Long-lasting, yes. Yeah, you could definitely make equipment for others if you invested enough in crafting, though it would have costs and limitations.

Armor and Resistance: I wanted to be able to create enemies and allies that were durable, but could be consistently hurt (high-Resistance) to use as reasonably sturyd bosses and the like, while also having characters that were very difficult to harm *at all* (high-Armor) for the more absurd challenges. I also wanted to be able to make "glassy" enemies--ones that are easy to kill if you overcome armor, because they don't reduce damage received at all. Basically, Resistance rewards hitting a lot, while Armor rewards hitting really hard. Ideally, these different types of builds would encourage you guys to pursue a diverse toolkit for handling different build-types. Unfortunately, actually running combats is a massive pain, it turns out, and thread-based quests aren't really ideal for combat-heavy gameplay anyway? Oh well. I may do things differently if/when this resumes.

The Phantom Thieves of Hearts were mentioned in the last update. I've never played Persona, but I did some reading about it. Weren't the Phantom Thieves fairly well known by the public, even if their identities and methods weren't?

Do the Phantom Thieves have any powers in the real world?

How is Hifumi able to create a "demiplane" hideout? In Persona 5, aren't palaces things that belong to people with "distorted cognitions", and which they don't usually enter themselves?

Question for the Homumind: Does Homura have any memories about the Phantom Thieves (it seems like the events of Madoka Magica happened after the events of Persona 5 here)? Has she heard of them in the past of this timeline? Has she heard of them in the pasts of any previous timelines, or is this the first time they have shown up?
I'll give you a hint, rather than dragging it out like I used to: The Phantom Thieves Hifumi belongs to went through many things the canonical Phantom Thieves did not, and it has made them quite a different organization than those you know.

Answer from the Homumind: Nope, Homura has no recollection of them in any capacity.

I appreciate your passion for the game. Thanks for posting in this old thread after so long when you did. I was happy to see that show of interest, even if I wasn't able to resume QMing at the time.

Thanks for bringing this concern up, but it's pretty much set up as intended--Renascence is a game with players who contribute to it, not a story I wrote alone, and everyone's Omakes are part of the journey in my book. If you're not interested in them, you can simply skip by them--Omakes are marked as such. Outside of Omakes, the Threadmarks are in narrative order, with information posts (about systems and such) included throughout so that new players won't be coming in blind to those things when they reach the end. If you aren't interested in participating or don't care about the mechanics, these can also be skipped. Sidestories are worldbuilding/lore segments that Homura isn't aware of, and basically optional, though they can grant insights. Apocrypha are things that were removed from the quest for one reason or another.

Mind you, there are some deprecated posts that have been removed from the threadmarks tab, mostly near the start of the story. Make sure to follow the actual threadmarks list, not just scroll down from post to post, since that might be misleading.
