Correct, it shouldn't be considered so. People are fucking dumb, and did so anyway.
Probably why a lot of older people (mostly Karens) feed their grandkids stuff that could kill them, thinking it's just them 'following a fad diet' or something.

This seems like a fine way to showcase skill issue. Which, considering the version Teen Titans we're working with, is a very fair concern.
I think just about everyone will be feeling a bit overwhelmed when they meet 'Darknessa, Mistress of the Dark.' Especially if Yuffie is there and Darknessa hands her her arse.

Yeah Tiffany situation, city and so on help explain her. Even if I wish she start to act more proactive in how to become a better person/hero.
I think just being out of the cesspit city filled with literal evil leaking into reality for an extended period of time (10+ years) will do Tiffany a world of good. Not that she doesn't desperately need a good therapist, mind.

Maybe a trip to Worm to borrow Dr. Yamada? She's one of the few truly competent therapists in fiction, and in Worm of all places.

Also, Alchemist should fill Robin and Tiffany in on Gotham in a bit more detail. They kinda need to know if they're going to deal with that place at all, even if it won't be for a while in either case.

How did the Teen Titans arrive in the demiplane? I ask because from the way everyone was acting, I'd think they were just teleported in, and having one group suddenly appear in the middle of another makes for some uneasy tension.

I was rather hoping to see their reaction to the old, run-down apartment building that only Raven could actually "see" (because of the Notice-Me-Not, Mortals! spell Alchemist cast), followed by entering a completely out of place door into another reality entirely. Would've been a bit mind-blowing if they weren't expecting it.

But no, we skipped all that.

You know i now have two questions for @Mister Ficser

Since beast boy was able to turn into the chocobo does that mean he can turn into mythical animals in this setting as that is one of his limitations in that he cannot do it. Does that mean he could turn into a dragon?

My second question is what is going to happen when Jinx comes home?

Some versions of Beast Boy absolutely can turn into mythical creatures, and he should be able to go dragon here if he wants. He has three different kinds he can experiment with, along with two heckhounds, one Fallen Angel, one Tamaranian, and one half-demon.

My second question is what is going to happen when Jinx comes home?
Who do you think the purple dragon is?

Honestly I just want a close up of robins face as they learn who and what exactly they're meeting xD
Especially if the puppets get involved

Aren't havoc dragons closer to pinkish in coloration? Not purple?

Scene:
Jinx: (looks around) o_O "A purple dragon? Where?"

Alchemist: "They're talking about you."

Jinx: (pretends to be offended) "I'm fuchsia, NOT purple."

Depending on the source you're looking at, the coloration can vary a bit. Some of that I'd blame on the lighting, too.

The version most folks would be familiar with would be Aivu from Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous in which she's more purple than fuchsia or lavender.

Official artwork in various books tends to look a bit more iridescent. Still somewhere on the purple scale, with some varieties looking almost pinkish, but I couldn't just pick out a color-code for her and say 'That's it, that's the definite color for a havoc dragon!'.

OMG! I am an idiot, how did I never make the connection between Alchemist being a Dragon and Yuffie being a princess!?! That...that is freaking hilarious and so poetic. Alchemist is basically a dragon who stole a princess. Talk about finding a unique workaround for the dragon instincts, he just found a neglected princess and became her adoptive dad. LOL oh, this is has tickled me just right.

Given the lack of anyone posting an "I knew it!" or similar comment, it seems likely that none of us made that connection. And yes, she is a rather unusual princess, whilst Al is a very unusual Dragon. :D

Whoever performs and embraces the Job of parent earns the Title of parent.
Her biological dad gave up his rights to it years ago.
So yes, Raven, she is his "real" daughter.

Well put!

  • Protecting houseguests from Tiffany, as Robin couldn't verbally retaliate without offending his host.

And without giving Tiffany any excuse to go off at him, defusing the situation for now and also giving her time and space to calm down from her fight/flight/fawn/etc trauma response to feeling like she was in danger (which she wasn't), just because she's been very startled in what she felt was a completely safe place. Which she very much was. Between the PTSD/traumas and her age, I'd have been completely shocked if she hadn't immediately reacted like the familiars did!

From the Watsonian perspective, this was very deftly and even kindly done by Al, and thinking over it, I can't think of any better way he could have handled it for everyone involved. I can say for certain that neither I nor most of the people I know could have threaded that needle even without the pressure of doing so instantly in the moment. And I know a bunch of very wise people, both parents and not.

From the Doyleist perspective it is an equally deft bit of writing on MF's part, both for the above reasons, but also because it strongly implies that Al has been doing some seriously intensive consideration on how best to help Tiffany, or else a lot of intermittent thinking on that topic. Knowing Al, it was probably both. All done without even actually showing so much as a shadow from the mantelpiece. 👏👏👏

I think that last scene is a great illustration of who Tiffany is as a person. She's taken off guard by strangers being in a place where she feels comfortable, even if she herself is a guest, and she lashes out instead of just... going to find some privacy, because they upset her, and so that's all that matters.

People keep on forgetting that Tiffany is not only traumatised, but also is only just barely a teenager at all. Yes, she can and does act like an utter brat sometimes, and sometimes she absolutely does need or deserve a metaphorical smack upside the head, but she's been used, abused, ignored, belittled and isolated from nearly everyone that should have been her support network. She's lost, hurt and has been repeatedly betrayed, of course she's going to lash out more than even your 'standard' brand new teen would. Al has only had a little while to help her since Tiamat deliberately tore away the one safety net she had for Her own reasons.

This is going to be a literally years-long effort, just like it would be for any child in our world that had gone through the same deeply ugly situation.

Raven drunk on the...feel of the demi-plane...

Raven hadn't even realised just how much she was missing the higher mana levels that she was used to before escaping to this world, poor kid.

It's pretty funny, just like how Robin went from bruised banana, and back into a real boy. Who decided to pick a fight with Tiffany. accusing her of everything.

Not sure that could have been avoided in any way, given how big the adrenaline spike was that Tiff just got hit with.

Alchemist yells out her name. scaring her, and then just calmly asked for apples... Is kind of a strange thing, but at least he didn't tear her down verbally.

See above.

Also Yuffie as we can see mused on how the world lacked the feel of magic and spirits. witnessed the defenestration of Cyborg and Robin via the Hive Kids from there own tower.

Then offered them a place at her home was sweet, and hilarious since if Jinx had been in her human form... The Teen Titans would have had questions...

And thus MF lay down a big clue for why Raven is reacting this way to the demi-plane. Though if Jinx had been present in her non-dragon form when the team arrived, it likely would have gotten really messy, really fast. And not at all to the TT's liking.

I don't know about how you phrased that. Allergies can be life-threatening. Not sure how "I avoid nuts because they could kill me via anaphylactic shock" could be considered an "alternative lifestyle."

And yet, that was how it was called and treated by far too many at the time. I do find it a timely and heart-warming reminder of how much ground the reactionary types have lost and continue to lose even in their endless 'culture wars'.

I think just being out of the cesspit city filled with literal evil leaking into reality for an extended period of time (10+ years) will do Tiffany a world of good. Not that she doesn't desperately need a good therapist, mind.

Gotham really could do with the full mythical Carthage treatment, but that's not ever going to actually happen outside of fanfic, or maybe an Elseworld, but even that is vanishingly unlikely.

Certainly pretty much everyone that has to live there could really do with almost anywhere else to live instead.

As for Tiff, yes, she does desperately need a good and competent therapist. Gods know she hasn't seen one so far!

She's the color of Chaos.

Well, at least she's not Octorine, 'cause being invisible to everyone not in the Magical world (or a cat) would likely be kinda awkward at best. :o

Wonder if Alchemist gonna put an anchored door for this dimension cause Yuffie has friends hear? Also wonder if someone gonna get adopted again by the family?

Funny how before this chapter people seemed to think falling out of a window is a big deal, then we see Cyborg also thinking it, and then everyone is fine, but outside, as should be expected in any comic book related setting. Windows are pretty much just there so the squishiest characters who couldn't handle a proper wall still get to go through buildings.

K'oriandr, Rachel, and Garfield all three are functionally orphans that really do need someone older and wiser to help them along.

I mean, Dick is too, but he would never consent to being under anyone's authority but Batman's (and even that is extremely doubtful in this particular timeline).

Given how his trip between worlds went I doubt he's going to leave a tunnel open, it's not remotely safe.

Pretty sure that's more about the aimless travel: with an anchor he can bypass that, but, without it, it seems closer to firing a grappling hook and pulling himself in, meaning anything in the way can try to hitch a ride.

Fully into fanon, tho: while Ficser has pretty consistent world rules, there are so many combined worlds that any look at it is just speculation lol

Now that Alchemist is here, he could return to his original world any time he wants, and he could come back in seconds.

It's getting here the first time that's really difficult, but not so much now that it's been done.

He can now use Plane Shift, and he can also build another door to his demiplane and leave one in this dimension to be used any time he wants thereafter.

Wish could also do it without issue.

There are other ways, as well.

Alchemist being the exhausted dad really demonstrates how humanity grounds extremely powerful characters without making every other character superflous. Abrasive, curt, but loyal.

Of course, Yuffie gets to experience how a true father acts, but is still unsure of her position in the family, despite being shown nothing but acceotance without expectations.

Then we get to the persitent plot thread of the sheer density of magical energy surrounding Alchemist's demiplane. A demiplane he intends to infuse more potent sources of unlimited magical energy. Throw that to his island, I get the feeling that if he ever goes to a Marvel world, he can definitely learn from the Masters of the Mystic Arts on how to tap and use his demiplane as an exocentric source of energy to do magic without entreating an extradimensional being.

It also highlights how thorough the buffons at Oa has screwed the DC multiverse with their actions. Some of the people Destined to be the most powerful and skillful magi in their respective DC-Earth incarnation are noting how near-oppressive or near-overwhelming the magical energies infusing every atom of Alchemist's demiplane. Nothing can shit in Alchemist's demiplane without it being densely magical.

The last place she felt safe in, she was blind the sexual violence happening around and to her.

Then someone unexpected shows up and "ruins everything", even if she KNOWS that they did no wrong and even saved her.

Emotions don't often make logical sense. Tiffany has problems, and she's gonna need some real time to work through them. More than she has already, even if she has made some progress. As well as some competent parenting. All teenagers are kind of dicks, it's the job of the adults I'm their life to guide them into who there meant to be.

Like Al intervening when necessary. As he did in this chapter.

You know, it's funny. I've never played FF7 so after recently seeing the trailers I was like "Wait Yuffie is like... a grown woman! Or at least a late teen!". Because this story has been basically all of my exposure to her character. I just sort of pictured her as this kid ninja the FF7 crew must have picked up but nope. Cannonically she's 16+ in the games. Weird.
