Mammoth Apostate vs the World 1: "Lost in the Mist"

Anyway, so the story of the Burn Unit starts with it's two NCO's SSgt. Jacob Blane and Sgt. Erica Jones. See, SSgt. Blane was an environmentalist, and when he saw what Kaiju Blue did to the environment he got really pissed off. So pissed off in fact that he started experimenting in the field with various ways of fighting the blue, eventually coming the conclusion that the best way to stop the blue was with fire, lots and lots of fire.

At first Sgt. Jones was rotated in to keep Blane from doing something stupid. However as a medical student for two years and having seen the devastating effects of Kaiju Blue exposure Erica has learned well the value of cauterizing a wound if it can't be closed by other means. Seeing that their plan backfired and recognizing an elite unit command has decided to allow a few of Blane's requests.

So hows that for a little meat on the bones?

How about we designate the unit as using a new 'Experimental' RPG round as a field test, XM01-prototype-Dragon's Blood rounds (damage type Acid/Fire)
both 'types' of damage BURN. (And destroy blue in the process)

Not something for general distribution (until a certain lvl of research threshold is reached).

Duly noted; the discrepancy is a left over from Legacy VtW quests. I was wondering when I would be called out on it :). With smaller squads representing fewer men that still retain the potential to wreck Cat Zeroes / Cat-1s.

Would it stretch anyone's disbelief too much to institute the following changes? All basic infantry units are based on a 20 man Platoon (4x - 5 man squads),
some special purpose units (k-9's, SEAL teams, etc. will be adjusted to make contextual sense).

Similarly vehicles (arty, tanks, mortars, helicopters, etc.) are singular units. To retain the general conventional's are (relatively) useless versus the largest/toughest K-scale opponents (some Cat-3's/Cat-4's/ & Cat-5's) feel from PR and other Kaiju films, I will borrow from Fyrstorm's playbook and allow a certain amount of resilience from conventional attacks on these upper lvl opponents.

I can see that... I'm all for testing it out.

Clear consensus achieved! Burn Unit is locked!

I need two 1d10 Sensor stat roll (+2), for extreme range intel gathering on the 2 opponents.

First roll is for Cat-3 'Wheezer' (Wheezer was inspired by Selma from Jace911's Romeo Blue Vs the world) heavily modified 'naturally'.

Second roll is for Cat-2 'Sage'

All 'Elite' troops statted out and listed on appropriate sheets, accessible from original opening posts.

The sensor feed sputters as they are on the outer edge of your sensor range - best you can get is a general description supplemented by some out of focus traffic camera footage.

'Wheezer' Category 3 Kaiju

A bipedal, lanky creature that appears a grotesque hybrid of a tiny eyed armadillo and a large eared sewer rat with a thick calloused leathery shell protecting its head, back, and hips, a long whip-like tail, and a pulsing amber sac over its throat. Its black leathery skin and shell glisten with a mucosal coating. Its exaggerated undersized forearms end in spindly grasping hands with bony denticals at the joints like organic brass knuckles.

Edit:
Still needing a sensor roll 1d10 +2 for details on 'Sage'

The sensors against the odds, manage a really decent scan not only revealing a good physical description, but something about this beast trips some dormant Gaussmeters left around to measure sunspot activity and although nowhere on the magnitude of a solar storm the beast is definitely altering local magnetic fields.

'Sage' Category 2 Kaiju

This hexapod (6 limbed) beast is much smaller overall than 'Wheezer' with the exception of a short thick barrel chest and its thick elephantine feet and legs.

From the waist up it appears nearly anorexic as the body tapers sharply like an inverted funnel, to an anteater style head on a ropy neck, the head has a single bulbous eye where an anteater would have had a mouth (it publicly shows no signs of having a mouth).

Spaced equidistantly around its torso are four overly long arms each featuring a second elbow giving it tremendous flexibility. These feeble arms each terminating in a small round metallic protuberance where a hand should belong. They have an almost mace like appearance but with the lack of musculature would be impotent bludgeoning weapons at best.

It follows 'Wheezer' doggedly, its short stubby legs churning comically to keep pace.

What I now need from the Players:

I have your troop composition (the who), now I need the where and how you wish to deploy.

Also on my player to do list, if you EVER intend to field 'Whitecap Triton' you will need to assign pilots. I made a suggestion for one that you may take or leave as you wish, but the other must be a player creation.

Ugh, 2 possible ranged attackers...

Throat sack = some sort of acid / tar baby / screech ?

Large magnetic signature = electrical / emp / eye beam? Add in the metallic 'hands' they sound like potential tesla coils.

[X] Msgt. Dwayne Frederickson for NPC pilot as suggested by Smithsguild.

Let me noodle a bit for deployment plan.

I'm honored. While we wait on Smithsguild to do his QM magic maybe I can rally some support for 'Whitecap Triton' some pilots?

[X] Msgt. Frederickson seems built for ass kicking. No frills career soldier.

Pair him with a (bookworm /labcoat/Gamer Geek) into Toho Studios pre-K day Kaiju films and we have some nice dramatic tension between pilots as geek starts mentally comparing the Kaiju in the field with Rodan or Gamera inside the drift.

Take a like, and you are owed a funny & insightful!

There is a sizable majority in favor of the deployment. Consider it locked!

To Battle!!!

As soon as Mammoth hits the ground, the resultant impact tremor and a hollow metallic thrum as the armor resonates around the superstructure grab the attention of Wheezer's titanic ears, he stops and pivots mid-stride almost to be bowled over by Sage who seems to handle the sudden maneuver with considerably less grace. They have halted their advance to the northwest and now face southeast back towards Savannah ogling you intently.

The tumultuous thwup of the Jump Hawk rotors as they drop the mechanical units only make Wheezer shiver in excitement and begin to visibly salivate, whereas Sage scuttles nervously behind Wheezer, his singular eye darting between the units dispatched and Mammoth. He croons softly to Wheezer, who shrugs and snorts contemptuously.

With the inclusion of range increments and hold fire order for the M270, I am assuming you intend to fire an opening volley with the conventionals as your way of saying hello?

Or are you closing the distance & then opening a can of whoop ass? If intent is to advance are you retaining this formation as you do so?

Choppers have considerably more movement (10) than the mechanicals: Tanks, mortars, M270 (4) & Mammoth can move (5 walk /10 run) or charge 2d5 +AGI 2.
