Mammoth Apostate vs the World 1: "Lost in the Mist"

Okay, nap taken and brain fog lifted.

[X] "The flames they rain, all over both lanes"

Tank 1, target A2.
Tank 2, target A3.
Wojtek, target A4.
Arty 1, target A5.
Arty 2, target B1.
Cobra that misfired, land near resupply and get rockets fixed.
Cobra 2, target B2.
Cobra 3, target B4.
Cobra 4, target B5.
Combat Engineers set claymores at 1km & 1.2km from A line.
Mammoth get ready to sling vehicles to disrupt any charges.
Pathfinders on overwatch with door guns to also break charges.

Hopefully I've not forgotten anybody.

Consensus Achieved! now for some dice...

Let's roll 3x 1d10 - tanks + Wojtek's Remember if Woj crits (Natural 10) roll an additional 1d5 (conventional exploding dice) hit 3+

Roll 2x 1d10 - for the artillery; to keep arty semi protected they are deployed behind tank line (needed indirect fire to be in range) hit 5+

Roll 3x 1d10 - Cobras (incendiary rocket pods) hit 3+

Cobra with jammed rocket pod serviced. Resupply Alpha has 2/3 uses remaining.

Engineers did as instructed, 2 lines of defensive claymores in place.

Mammoth has -just- the vehicle... an abandoned cement mixer with a hardened load of concrete, it should leave an impression.

Pathfinders on overwatch...

Roll one group of rolls and give someone else a chance, no movement in an hour roll some new rolls in seperate post this shows your not hogging all the rolls yet keeps us moving.

When all rolls are in you'll get an updated map along with the narrative...

Choppies.

edit: Yup, now we get all the shit rolls. That's two hits, so not all is bad.
HolyDragoon threw 3 10-faced dice. Reason: Chopper chop chop? Total: 12
1 1 7 7 4 4

@HolyDragoon roll me a crit-fail misfire 1d10 (I had been doing them behind the scenes, but moar player interaction opportunity!)

Will the chopper fail?

EDIT: Yes. Yes it will.

 Catastrophic failure cause a rocket pod to detonate on the lead Cobra resulting in its instant vaporization & a real possibility of death for its wingmates from thermite and shredded fuselage become shrapnel.

1 more 1d10 for a chance at a heroic save, using auto rotation to limp the remaining busted up birds safely to the ground (Mission dead, 50% R to bring unit back to fighting capability.) Unit appends an * to it... denoting it sidestepped a gruesome death.

(ooc-FYI behind the scenes info: Low manufacturing, makes critical fails *more* deadly. No quality assurance testing, no minimum standards, etc.
However the reverse will also be a factor, higher lvls of manufacturing can improve the end products durability, accuracy, etc.) at what levels will remain a 'fog of war' mechanic.)

Both are no more than simple jams the resupply squads were designed to handle.

Combat round resolved, feel free to plan next round as I do the narrative write up.

The arrayed forces of the Pan-Oceanic Defense Forces lay siege against the unwelcome foreign life that have made the overpass their home.

The tanks of Alpha company send a synchronized blast down range & on target, the very definition of a textbook fire mission. The results are anything but textbook...

The rounds churn the earth with their explosions and break into a gas main that supersaturate the grid square they targeted with an enormous fireball that rolls 10m into the air before the flames feed into the pipe, cascade causing a rippling series of smaller explosions that destroy the neighboring grid square as well.

The rookies of Bravo in their haste to emulate their brother unit accidently fudge the load sequence and cause a jam. The adjacent resupply rush in, clear it in moments, chide the rookies on their carelessness warning of the inherent dangers in such a misfire. Resupply Alpha has 1/3 uses remaining.

Wojtek's Winners playfully laugh and point... That is until they too hangfire a round. As Resupply Bravo races to their aid the 'Elites' shrug sheepishly as the Rookies now hoot in glee. Resupply Bravo has 2/3 uses remaining.

All levity ceases as misfortune strikes driving home the inherent danger of the deadly warheads in play. Cobra wing Alpha prepares to fire and... Catastrophic failure cause a rocket pod to detonate on the lead Cobra resulting in its instant vaporization & a real possibility of death for its wingmates from thermite and shredded fuselage become shrapnel.

Despite the desperate attempts to use auto rotation to limp the remaining busted up birds safely to the ground, the pilots best attempts all they could manage was not to crash land on the ground troops below. 1 'Cobra' Wing destroyed, morale is mildly shaken.

New combat plan please... BadKatt85's last one was handled very well for this situation.

Minor correction; they shrugged off the (oxygen starved) Thermobaric truck bomb, the thermite mortar shell shredded and roasted them just fine...

Tank & Mortar line is 2km out from blue pointer and all other positions are centered off that...
Interesting. They can handle heat/concussions, at least with an intact shell.
@Nixeu Your assumption is spot on... (CO2) The blast wave has pretty much displaced the air under the overpass it was apparently of a higher vapor density than oxygen and had pooled in the low spot. Between heat and blast the air has been much disturbed and the thermite now burns quite happily.
Or that.

Ouch.

I don't see much reason to change up our strategy. Misfires happen. Should maybe focus on different points, but other than that, seems effective to me. We might want to make sure these buggers don't get loose and swarm an unsuspecting settlement, as well. Maybe have Mammoth Apostate act if they make a break for it.

No actual combat plan yet provided, shall check back this evening. Hopefully we'll have a plan and enough consensus to move forward.

I'll go with Nixeu's idea.

[X] Repeat previous actions using all units still able to participate.
-[X] Mammoth stands ready to intercept any Anteverse life that tries to make a break for it.
