Mammoth Apostate vs the World 1: "Lost in the Mist"

Oh an Atlanta basded jager quest neat. Will be watching this.

Thanks @cokerpilot ; feel free to chime in (if you like) as it is an open council style game. BadKatt85 has the right of it though...

I never envisioned my players would help build Atlanta up to an Independent City State before following the plot bread crumbs to Savannah. Players 'say so' has a profound effect so far and I'm sure they will continue to surprise and confound my storyboard attempts. ;)

Recap of your current forces as I have been somewhat slacking in keeping my sheets up-to-date.

1 AK-Tank Platoon (w/t 1 more in build que)
1 Elite Tracked Mortar Platoon
  • 'Wojtek's Winners'
2 Resupply Platoons
1 Corp of Combat Engineers
6 Anti-Kaiju Brigades
1 Motorcycle Club Militia
3 Elite Motorcycle Club Militia

  • RoughRiders
  • GhostRiders
  • EMS RoadHogs
Improvised Mobile 'Mini' Shatterdome
1 wing of MH-6 'Little Bird' Observation craft
1 wing of UH-1 'Pathfinder' scout helicopters
4 wings of 'Cobra' attack helicopters
5 T-95 AK-Artillery Batteries (towed) (Gained Here) 'This is what I forgot to update to conventional force sheet' - error adjusted

Civilian Convoy (10,000+ ppl)

This -should- be correct at this point.

-----Edit
At one point there was talk of leaving some forces to assist Atlanta as they get up and running...

I will do a seperate post ASAP listing Atlanta's current Military Assets so you can have good info to work from.

Atlanta city defense 1
  • Autonomous Autocannon Defensive Batteries GAU-8 Avenger
  • Civil Defense Patrol
  • Civilian Shelters
Atlanta M.A.S.H. unit

---------In Atlanta's build Que

10 Anti-Kaiju Brigade (-350 R)
Upgrade Manufacturing to 1 (-500 R)

I believe the plan was to give them a unit of tanks and then head for Savannah.

I believe the plan was to give them a unit of tanks and then head for Savannah.

Actually @Cmd. Frost it was still a broad strokes thought and not included in a plan per se. Below is the only reference I could find.

Hm. You know, let's set aside a couple Motorcycle Militias and a couple of the infantry units, to start with. Or can we "build" a unit with our R before we leave next turn?

Actually, I would be more in favor of donating a few arty instead of a tank. Arty looks more defensive than tanks, and much cheaper, whereas a tank would be better for us on the road.

Edit: 4 arty 200 Resources =1 tank

Actually their resources are tapped atm, do in no small part to their upgrading their manufacturing and how impressed they were with the AKB's versatility in facing both large and small scale threats. Next turn manufacturing 1 will generate 500 R... but their action economy is the same as yours due to low pop (1 QM mercy action; 1 for almost pop 10,000 citizenry loyal to Mayor Adaire).

@KnightDisciple on your dime you have 1 construction action (currently slotted for a tank) that could be changed to arty no sweat.

---edit you -already- have 5 Arty units on tap from your search around Atlanta

Hm....

I say we keep the construction action and leave them 3 artillery. That only leaves us with 2, but we'd have 2 Tanks on top of our AKB and MM. That's enough to get down the road ASAP.

[ ] Plan: "Get back to where you once belonged"

Gift 3 Artillery to Atlanta (free action? )
Build 1 Tank (- 200 R)
Head down to Savannah

I hope I did this right?

Hopefully our Corps of Combat Engineers can be working enroute on an improvised thermobaric device to send as a car bomb under the overpass. Pressure waves should do a number on those pseudo wasps.

Consensus Achieved! I will begin write up shortly...

Just for giggles roll me a 1d10... Knowledge check for Corp of Combat Engineers. First come first serve.

The Road to Savannah (motw#3)
[ ] Plan: "Get back to where you once belonged"

Gift 3 Artillery to Atlanta (free action? )
Build 1 Tank (- 200 R)
Head down to Savannah

Mayor Adaire is quite happily surprised by the Councils parting gift; 3 batteries of T-95 Anti-Kaiju artillery will give Atlanta some additional ranged punch and with the GAU-8 Avenger Auto-sentries & the 10 AKB's produced should be a considerable deterrent to any casual Kaiju threat below a Cat-3. You overhear Mayor Adaire ordering his people to begin a feasibility study on mounting these Artillery pieces to one of the MARTA elevated railway trains and thereby ensuring rapid deployment to any quadrant of Atlanta's Defensive Perimeter.

The auto-jigs successfully provide a second T-100 AK-Tank platoon to supplement the Convoys defense, it begins rolling out less than a hour after the jigs power down.

When the order is given to roll out, it is an impressive sight. Your air forces (currently stored on semis for transport) have more than doubled, and your green troops are now lead by battle hardened Elite veterans whose unit pennants waft in the early morning breeze. Of course they cannot hold a candle to the raw power Mammoth Apostate exudes merely by walking, the impact tremors threaten to spill the celebratory drinks of the denizens of Atlanta who have gathered to watch their newfound friends take their leave, Atlanta's AKB's stand as an honor guard and even the newly gift artillery fire a salvo of powder charges in salute. (A masterful stroke by Mayor Adaire, reminding the citizens they aren't being abandoned defenseless as the last known Jaeger walks ever southward...)

Soon the revelry is left behind and the drudgery of the long trek lays before you. The Motorcycle Militia patrol the length and breadth of the convoy racing ahead to the south a mile or so in advance, then turning and racing to position themselves as rearguard a mile behind, each Motorcycle Militia taking its turn so between the six units on pack of bikers are within sight of those proceeding them and those that follow.

It is good thing too; without such an arrangement all the added construction equipment joining the convoy has made it double in length making it a massive logistical headache to guard that stretches nearly out of sight.

----------------------------------Several hours pass---------------------------------------
With you swiftly approaching the reported "Nest" site (still 5km away) that homes the Vespiform horrors that nearly destroyed one of your 'Little Bird's' on the Savannah scouting expedition you chose to stop and formulate a battle plan.

The Combat engineers are confident they have improvised a set of thermobaric bombs built upon 2 Liquid Propane home delivery tankers. One to be positioned on the Northbound two lanes; the other the two southbound lanes. They have utilized a few of the HE rounds strategically placed on the chassis to serve as a remote detonated primary core, distributing the liquid propane before a secondary thermite charge ignites it causing a massive overpressure blast wave. All that needs determined is how close should the drivers proceed before bailing out of the vehicles allowing the engine idle to creep the vehicle w/o the benefit of someone steering?

What other strategy and tactics do the Council propose to supplement the Engineers bombs? This being the first Nest you are dealing with I advise -ALL CAUTION- as you are dealing with an alien world on Georgian soil.

Incoming Description of what's observable at 5 km range through the best scopes/binoculars you possess. It will be edited to this post so please check back here first.

-----Edited in Description

The formerly seen Fluorescent 10 meters high stalks (have doubled to 20+ meters) orange as a day-glo traffic cone with purple fringe fronds.

The entirety of the ground within 0.2km of the overpass is covered in a lavender lichen that is nearly a foot thick, the demarkment of the lichen where it meets 'normal' plant life has an assortment of skeletal remains ranging from deer, dog, human, and various unidentified bones stripped of any trace of flesh these remains are all within 10m of the lichens edge.

[ ] break out everything!
  • All cobras and pathfinders made ready maintain current distance once air borne.
  • Tank, Mortars, and resupply form a line combat spacing. Tanks outside, resupply, then Mortar in middle. Line will advance slowly after truck bombs to long range.
  • Helicopters advance in line 2 units behind tank line.
  • AKB'S & Mm overwatch as civies guards.
  • Engineers roll bombs and ditch 1 km from lichen.

Edited in changes. I say we should go full scorched earth mode, if I can't name it, it's ash.
