Magical Girl Quest - The Fire That Burns

Hmmm not really happy with changes at all, but whatever the QM thinks is best, we will see how it plays out.

My reaction picture earlier was more of a, It makes perfect sense and I rather be dealing with a morally bankrupt Karen then an SV Karen.

Presumably because they're a clear nerf? And thus, it makes it more difficult to build up enough power to be "safe" (from Karen?) again?

Why are you not happy with them?

It mainly massive because the massive power loss, and the increased difficulty to acquire more power that bothers me quite a bit. Furthermore I can't really see a reason for it, I mean yes ,juggernaut wave's damage increase per level was perhaps bit too over powered need to be nerfed. However the decrease in damage, only 2k damage increase per level, and getting rid of the target army I feel was unnecessary. Other than that I can't really see a reason any of the other changes at all, but I have never run quest so I might be in the wrong and Rukia is right. So like I said we will see how this massive nerf plays out in the future with the massive amount fighting we are about to be doing very soon.

-Ignition Aura
--Level removed (EXP refunded)
--Damage Calculation changed to [10% MM x Level of Thermal Control]

-Alpha and Omega
--Level removed (EXP refunded)
--Damage changed to 100% of Ignition Knight's Magic Modifier

Both of these are big buffs.

General:
-EXP costs changed from [15 x Level] to [10 x Level]

Incredibly large buff.

-Knight's Shield
--Shield Strength reduced from +1,100 to +500
--Magic Modifier reduced from +100 to +50
--Added Stack by Level
--Added Omni-Caster (Lv 2)

Actually a buff.

-Juggernaut Wave
--Lowered damage from 128,000 +128,000 per level to 20,000 + 2,000 per level
--Lowered Magic Modifier from 500 +500 per level to 2,000 +200 per level
--Removed Target:Army (Item refunded)

Got hit by the nerf bat like a sledgehammer.

Overall, I don't think it was that bad.

you should also notice that we have quite a bit of EXP available in the shop now. abilities that are now unlevelable got their EXP refunded.
This'll be much less of a nerving once we get some spending done.

Only thing really getting nerved was JW, which is wholly understandable.

See, the problem with this was that Cerys has a growth-Affinity of Story.

As per the mainline-Quest, even +2,000 per level is incredibly OP for a girl of that growth and would be more fitting on Legend or Epic, two to three tiers above.
Rukia built most of this based on a faulty foundation and had to undo a few things already; this time, we overhauled most of the results of said foundation and made them both more viable and more flexible.

Plus, everything Rukia just stated above.

Here, let me give y'all a snippet of me last night while I was going through the character sheets and talking about game balance with Naron and Ruk.

Fixing the balance on all this is honestly a really good thing. I posted that applause gif for a reason. Sure, Juggernaut Wave getting nerfed loses some damage but I'll be honest, my suggestion was to remove it entirely because the old version was just not okay.

Okay Juggernaut Wave is understandable, don't like it but understandable. However I may just not be that smart, or I am just missing something important here beacauss I still don't don't see a reason for the other changes. Would anyone be willing to explain that to me or point me towards a conversation where it was already explained?

making abilities non-levelable is good for us, because EXP is (or at least should be) a limited resource.
every ability we don't have to level means we got EXP to spend on something else.

Let's see.

Ebony Knight:
-Magic Modifier Growth reduced from +50 to +25

-Knight's Shield
--Shield Strength reduced from +1,100 to +500
--Magic Modifier reduced from +100 to +50
--Added Stack by Level
--Added Omni-Caster (Lv 2)

-Merged Unrelenting and Will of Iron into one Ability with the same effect
-Added High-Speed Combat
-Removed Regeneration
First part: Daiyu is the tank, so she is not supposed to deal tons of damage. Her Base is already higher than Cerys', so she does not need a bigger Magic Modifier as well.

The shield got a straight-up buff because it grows only half as fast, but can be stacked on the same person as often as its level. Plus, Omni-Caster (Lv 2) allows her to cast it three times per turn.
Basically, she can get up to 5k of damage reduction on an ally with a few turns of effort, or 500 on three allies in the same turn. Less strong, but more versatile

Regeneration was basically useless because she already has a self-healing effect in Unrelenting; getting High-Speed Combat was a pure buff.

Ignition Knight:
-Infinity Edge
--Removed Burn

-Ignition Aura
--Level removed (EXP refunded)
--Damage Calculation changed to [10% MM x Level of Thermal Control]

-Alpha and Omega
--Level removed (EXP refunded)
--Damage changed to 100% of Ignition Knight's Magic Modifier

-New Shop Items added, prices of old Shop Items adjusted
Infinity Edge's edge is superheated; this is the only reasoning for it to have Burn; I already used that reasoning 300 pages ago to justify it having Armour Pierce, so one of them had to go. Ignition Aura already applies this effect as well and it really does not do much where Cerys fights.

Both Auras were going to become ridiculous sooner or later due to how they were scaling. This would have led to the very same problem we just had with Juggernaut Wave. Which is why we interconnected them with Cerys' other stuff instead.
Now you do not have to spend EXP on their levels and both grow in damage if you level Infinity Edge. Much better and far easier to work with.

The adjustment of prices and items was done in response to the change from [15 x level] to [10 x level]; there will be a lot of fighting and, due to that, a lot of EXP. These Items are not supposed to be bought in bulk, but for people to actually consider which they want and what might be best. Thus the high pricing.

I hope this makes things a bit more clear?

It does actually, thank you kindly for explaining that.

Edit: @Rukia was thermal Spear nerfed as well?

JUST ONE MORE
You stare at the screen for a while longer, trying to make sense of something over the loud screaming and punching noises. When they don't stop after several minutes, you look at Cerys, who was shuffling in place a little awkwardly as you stare. All she gives you is a shrug and goes back to watching whatever this is. Alright then... You move the remote in your hand, idly wondering what the News channel was on, you never memorised the English one.

Of course, it's this. You press three buttons, 885, almost on instinct. The number had just popped into your head and lo-and-behold, BBC News comes onto the screen; the soothing voice of the reporter a jarring contrast to the high pitched screaming that had been assaulting your ears before.

Una lets out a sound of almost physical pain, shooting you the most betrayed look you could imagine possible. "We can watch your Chinese cartoons later, I think it's important that we know what the news think happened." You don't really, but you'd take watching the news over having to get Cerys to heal your eardrums after aforementioned Asian screaming. Una doesn't let up on her cute death stare, but you think you see Cerys send you a thankful glance, carefully avoiding her sister's notice.

Ignoring the invisible eye-beams of death trying to drill their way into your brain, you look back at the screen and listen, only needing to use the subtitles a little with his accent. The fire spread to the parliament building? You look at some of the images being displayed. Well, it probably spread to a lot more than that. Must have lit up a good block. You suck in air through your teeth as Cerys looks at the devastation blankly. At least Big Ben didn't fall over? That would have been bad. Well, worse.

The images suddenly disappear, the newscaster shuffling his papers a little numbly as a large picture takes up part of the screen. I recognise that. One of those fancy rune covered jets from the attack on the Fortress. The image pans out slightly and you see the flaming Big Ben in the background. The fuck? The newscaster gathers his courage and speaks, apparently the jet had dropped some sort of new bomb that caused all of the damage, and of course it was connected to the Counter Force because it was their jet. There was no jet. You look at Cerys when you feel the temperature fluctuate slightly, but her face might as well have been carved from stone.

Looking back to the screen, the newscaster goes on. "And as of now NATO have declared an official state of war and revoked America's Membership?" The sisters don't react when you repeat what he said, trying to make sense of the sudden madness. The female newscaster takes over when the guy fails, his voice choking up as he starts reading casualty figures. Once they are done, there is a moment of silence, then they start listing procedures for the event of nuclear warfare. And that seals the deal I guess.

"Guess this war is actually gonna happen now huh?" She turns to look at you, frowning as she strokes her sister's hair. "No take-backsies I guess."

She nods, sitting down on her seat and dragging her sister onto her lap. "I knew it was going to happen. But hearing it actually be announced..." She trails off, but you understand. It's... You never expected to have a war in your lifetime, it just wasn't a thing that happened any more. You look back up at the screen, the back of the news room replaced with a large map of England, highlighting possible zones of nuclear attack and the procedures when the sires started wailing. And look what just happened, World War Three.

You look down at Cerys. "She's vicious, got her base blown wide open and she managed to finagle it into her being the victim, even managed to blame the Illuminati." She nods slowly, the fingers on her other hand tapping a slow rhythm on her leg. "I'm actually kind of impressed." She grunts wordlessly back at you, and you frown. She's ignoring me. You follow her eyes and see her staring at the map. She's plotting, isn't she. You lean a little closer and she doesn't react, not until you are nearly on top of her. Totally plotting.

You lean back, giving her room to think as you try to ignore the view you'd gotten down her shirt completely by accident. Looking at the two, cuddling as they both do... nothing really. Well, that's one way to ruin the mood. You look back at the remote. Mopey sisters or screeching Asians. You look at the sad look on Una's face. You better fucking appreciate this.

You turn the channel back to the last one and immediately wince slightly. It barely takes you a minute to realise that you apparently missed nothing, the two men are still punching each other, just this time in a slightly different looping cycle. The subtitles helpfully let you know their names, Carrot and Broccoli and why they are fighting, for their love of giant apes? What the fuck is this. Broccoli starts caressing his tail as Carrot looks on awkwardly, a bald midget with code pad on his head lurking in the corner with a glowing pizza of death.

Cerys shuffles to the side and pats the sofa, not looking at you as she tries her best to bleach her mind with shitty cartoons. Why the fuck not? You drop next to her, appreciating the slight bounce and lean against the arm-rest. Looking back to the TV, apparently something is actually happening. The midget springs his ambush and fails completely, getting demolished by... giant monkey Broccoli? What. Giant monkey Broccoli proceeds to kick the shit out of literally everyone for the next twenty minutes, leaving you questioning how fucking durable everyone was to not be dead already.

Finally, when Broccoli is about to win, leaning over the midget, the view suddenly jumps to the side. You blink when a... fat samurai jumps forwards, cutting off the tail. Broccoli calls out the standard 'how could this happen' and starts turning back into a guy, dropping Carrot as he does so. What. Una makes a sad sound, apparently disappointed by the loss of Broccoli. When you look over Cerys is rubbing her face with one hand, though you notice her eyes peeking out at the screen from behind it, watching eagerly.

You look back at the screen, a little interested despite yourself. Am I supposed to be rooting for Carrot or Broccoli? Considering that carrot looks more like the traditional hero, you guess him. But... you always kind of liked the villains in stories. Just when it seems like everyone is about to start fighting again, the episode cuts to the ending, a pretty catchy song playing out the episode. Alright, that was stupid. But... it wasn't that bad. The next episode starts on it's own, the opening blaring out as you turn the speakers up slightly. Their voices aren't even painful after the first ten minutes.

You look up from the screen sharply when you hear someone cough from the doorway, your suddenly stiff limbs protesting at your rapid movements. Oww oww oww. You manage to stop yourself from falling over by leaning on your sword, an amused chuckle coming from next to you. You turn and give Cerys the evil eye, pausing the cartoon as you turn to the intruder. "Who is it-- Oh." You'd recognise that multicoloured hair and giant pair of tits anywhere.

The looks she sends you is a mixture of predatory amusement and contemplation. Uhhh. Eventually she just shakes her head looking at the TV in front of you, when she looks back at you, her eyebrow is raises rather pointedly. "So, did you enjoy yourself?"

"It was alright." It wasn't nearly as bad as you'd thought it would be, almost enjoyable.

Her smirk deepens. "I guess a five hour marathon is 'alright' theses days." You hold up a finger to correct her before you catch sight of the time on the TV. Wait, what. You look back at her, then the screen. But it was just a few episodes... "Not bad for some 'Chinese Cartoons' right?" The way she emphasises those words makes your hackles raise, even though the gentle smile doesn't leave her face. You just nod slowly, feeling like you should just agree with her and stay quiet. Her smile grows a little bigger as you think that, but she turns to Cerys. "It's nearly time, you should get ready."

Una lets out a said whining noise, snuggling closer to her sister but Cerys just nods, her stoic facade cracking slightly when she presses a kiss to the top of her sister's head. "Can you bring us back?" Gaia nods and suddenly you are sitting in your chairs back at home. Well, Cerys is sitting on an armchair with Una and you were deposited right onto Daiyu's lap. Umm. She doesn't react much beyond shifting so that you aren't putting all of your weight onto one of her legs, nodding down at you as you blush. Stupid Gaia. You shuffle over onto the free space next to her, the seat feels disappointingly cold. Stupid comfy lap.

Cerys clears her throat and gives her best 'boss' voice. "Alright then. From my understanding the plan is to go to the locations, kill and destroy everything there, then come back?" Gaia nods at her words, leaning back and staying silent. Well then, that's simple. "Which side are we attacking first and where?"

"You will be attacking the Clocktower first, the longer they have the more dangerous defences they will be able to set up." You both nod at that, it's fairly sensible. "You will be attacking their main staging point in Europe, located in southern Germany." You hum as you think about the terrain, but it's probably going to be a tent city, so that doesn't really matter. "For the second attack, the Counter Force is operating out of an old naval base they took over when hostilities started. It's located in western France."

Cerys lets out a long hum as she rests her chin of Una's head, smiling at her delighted squeak. "You'll be dropping us right on top of them?" Gaia nods, content to let the boss plan.

No no, question everything first and since its Gaia she's should be open right?
We should why and how making both side bleed and increasing hate and ire to Cerys's side of three little magical girls would make humanity stronger and don't try to kill us as we work with them against the demons!
Also how would we deal with any magical girl we find independent or otherwise in theses missions.

Always question Mother about everything!!
Not interested in staying as her WEAPONS like in the main quest, still hoping Cerys become a hero supported by humanity's armed forces.

our little battle maniac would be pissed if we went without her.
going without sabina would allow us to use ignition aura with impunity, we should really set some time aside to train our control of it, so it only hurts who we want it to hurt.

[] {Entrance} Take advantage of the surprise and try to get a quick look around first
Getting a little time to see how the enemy forces are arranged
[] {Entrance} Hard and fast, attack right away
or hitting completely out of left field, letting surprise win the day, but risk running into something unforeseen.

hard to decide.

[X] {XP} Plan
-[X] Flight 7 -> 13 (570)
-[X] Knights Aria 7 -> 10 (240)
-[X] Plasma Sphere 5 -> 10 (350)
-[X] Thermal Spear 8 -> 11 (270)
-[X] Plate Armour 10 -> 12 (210)

a first draft of an exp plan. things this one does:
- raise our flight so we get the next level of high speed combat, allowing us to target moving enemies easier.
- also raising our own flightspeed, so some enemies will have a harder time targeting us. this is why this is raised to 13 and not 10. if it was boosted flight 11 likely would be enough, but since it isn't we go to 13.
- raising knights aria both increases daiyu's resilience and cerys damage (because daiyu will add an equal amount to her aria). we are attacking a fortified location of mages for the first time from the outside. daiyu can need all the defense she can get.
- raising the spells this far should all have them transition out of the exponential growth into the linear one.
- waiting to raise infinity edge after we got the training for a shop item done, so we do not lose out on MM
- raising plate armour two levels tripples our base resilience. even in her head quarters only a single enforcer could damage us before. this should make most of them unable to damage us, unless they synchronize their attacks, which daiyu will protect us from.

this will leave us with 293 XP leftover. to use in emergencies or for shop items after the mission.
I decided not to buy Ignition Aura: Incineration at this time, because it's use will be limited till we have it trained enough to not damage our allies.

Uh... you might be mixing up something.
Crystalwatcher's Solid Core is the latter half of this quote, not the former.
such a thing does not currently exist.
I'm talking about ending up as her champions Hero and Weapon than Solid Core's future role if we are going to go on following her orders. I am hoping for Cerys to reintegrate with humanity's future forces once WW3 is over against the demons.

Come on, I'm questioning her even if she is Mother.
