Magical Girl Quest - The Fire That Burns

"O-of course, s-see you l-later." You force your eyes to stay open as you let loose the spell, emotions rushing into the magic as it leaves you, a black-red hue flickering through the spell. "My very best friend."

How important is is the black-red hue, or is it just her emotions affecting her spell.

I hope at some point we get a Morgan Interlude about the aftermath, because I doubt Morgan is very happy with Karen at the moment. Not only did Karen's actions cost Morgan her friends, they also seem completely unnecessary, since I doubt there was no other way to get Cerys to join them besides deceiving her, and they lost her all the magical girls, she wanted to get with it in the first place.

[X] Towards the jungle full of glowing leaves, what could go wrong?

Ugh. What a fucking mess. Was there any reason, any reason at all to go on a murder-spree when leaving? To not just blow past all the slow and feeble mortals? Because I'm not seeing anything besides a desire to satisfy the murder-boner.

Cerys was leaving her very first friend behind and there was a convenient array of targets to let out her conflicted feelings on?

That is why the superpowered teenager is horrifying... and Rukia plays this kind of thing straight.

I'm pretty sure that killing all the friends and co-workers of said best-friend is...pretty much the worst way to leave short of assaulting them directly. Especially when by all accounts, the grunts have played things straight with the PC, it's the leadership that's manipulative.

And convenient targets? Really? It's not the super-powers I find disturbing, it's that their in the hands of a psychopath.

...Morgan has no friends. Or rather, the number of friends she has aside from Cerys' group can be counted on one hand. I take that from previous WoG somewhere here in the Thread, forgot where it was.

That aside, the grunts were attacking Cerys? Was she supposed to just take it?

Aside from that, it has been known since day one that Cerys' morals start and stop with Una.
Aside from that, please do not call her a psychopath. What Cerys was at the moment is someone who was thrown out of her depth, had her rarely given trust exploited and the only thing she truly loves threatened. She was beyond caring at that point.

So yes, a very angry teenage girl. Unusual? No.
The superpowers are what makes it so devastating.

Plus, I was told that going through the front door would have been the go-to for anyone who did not want so many deaths. Did not realise it at the time, but neither did anyone else.

The grunts who were attacking because she burst through the walls and started cutting shit up? When she could have just gone straight up until she was out of range and left with Gaia. Yeah, real justified. Especially that last one. Some dumb kid who panicked, and let loose. Of course he deserved to burn.

The reason I call Cerys a psychopath is because she is one. If their on 'her' side? Morgan, Una, her team? She cares and mourns. Like the teams she was with when she started out. But if their not? If their 'other'? She does not give a shit about horrifically killing them, and even seems to enjoy it. They aren't 'people' anymore. Just targets that deserve it.

I didn't really like what happened with the base she burned down but at least they were all combatants. All soldiers. The same will be the case where-ever Gaia deploys us. But this? A base full of civvies? Non-com personnel? In the middle of a major city? Not okay.

...that is... every warrior ever?
If they are your enemy, you fight them and kill them full stop.

As for the killing being horrific... that is not entirely accurate, though not completely wrong either. Cerys just does not care about brutality at all. She does what works. And no, she does not enjoy killing people.

This is pretty much a prerequisite for Gaia choosing to use you as a direct underling.

This is why when we were choosing whether or not to take Gaia's deal, I gave everyone a reminder that Gaia isn't exactly nicer to the average person than Karen.

I don't see how Cerys could have chosen a different place to escape from.

The grunts who were attacking because she burst through the walls and started cutting shit up?
The very first grunts started their attack run before we even left the room.
As she starts digging through it, you stretch out your thermal sense, immediately noticing the group of four making all haste for your room.
THIS is what started "escape, while killing everybody who prevents that".

EDIT: They also were in full "KILL CERYS" gear, so there was exactly zero doubt about that "surrounded by enemies" thing.

RIVENDELL?
You clamber up a particularly large rock, grunting when Una hops up beside you, slight glow of reinforcement fading as you look. Turning back to clambering up the hill, you try your best not to get jealous of the ease the two sisters are having, practically jumping around like ninjas. Must resist urge to transform. Sure, it would be easier to get around, but you just know that the devious little midget would know why and rub it in your face for the rest of the day. So, you just grumble as you haul yourself up another rock, idly musing on your state of 'not tired'.

You were pretty sure that you'd never have been able to just climb the bastard child of a hill and a mountain before this whole Magical Girl- You stop your thoughts there, trying not to snort as you think about the word. Magical Girls, honestly, who the fuck gave them that name. It's not a bad name, seeing as it sums up everything quite nicely, but it was so... Yeah. Just don't think about it, where was I? Bitching about climbing this fucking hill I think. You reluctantly accept a hand from Cerys, letting her haul you up onto a flat bit and you rather suddenly realise that you are at the top.

Glancing back, you can see the rather long drop behind you. That looked waaay smaller from down there. You hear Una gasp and look forwards, into the valley below you.

Damn, this is practically an entire village. You lean forwards a bit, noticing a steep stone staircase leading down from your outcropping and into the village itself. Una looks over when you hum, but her sister is faster, snatching her by the back of her shirt and dragging her back as she darts forwards. The pleading look she sends up at her sister goes completely ignored as she stares into the village for a moment, shaking her head and loosening her grip after a second. "It's empty."

Huh. You look back to the village, noting the lights lit up all across the place. "You sure about that?" She just glances at you out of the corner of her eye and nods. "Mmm, reckon they all took off recently, or this is Gaia's pad?"

She shrugs, letting her sister go and stepping down onto the staircase. "She didn't say so, but if she didn't want us to be here we wouldn't be here." You follow after her a little hesitantly after that, looking around to see if a certain multi-coloured woman is peering down at you from a tree somewhere. Meanwhile, Una is literally skipping as she walks inbetween the two of you, enough that both of you have to prod her back down towards the ground sometimes. She can fly too? This is so fucking unfair.

When you reach the bottom, Una immediately tries to run off towards the big building, but you grab her shoulder a second before Cerys does. "Hey, gotta make sure it's clear first 'right?" She pouts up at you, but you have much experience in dealing with children who don't want to do as they are told. So long as they don't start calling me Mother again. Cerys nods at your words and the two of you let go of her, moving through the grounds at a walking pace.

You keep your eyes and ears open, but the tents seem to be completely empty when you pass them, and all you can hear is the roar of the waterfall steadily growing louder and louder as you approach. The three of you pause at the small house just past the tents and you glance over to the Boss. She just shakes her head, but you still poke your head through the door. It opens with just a slight squeak and you are greeted by the insides. A bed sits in the corner, away from the windows, as does a dresser. A table sits in the opposite corner of the room, a small kitchen taking up the other corner.

Huh. You lean back and close the door, it smoothly swinging into place. Housing for more people? You set off towards the bridge, intricate carvings of flowers and plants covering the wood as you move across it; the waterfall seeming muted somehow, just before it got loud enough to be too loud. You look at the sisters, but they don't seem to react to the subtle change, probably because Cerys is busy keeping Una from poking a glowing orb. The thing floats past them harmlessly, bouncing off of the wooden railing with a soft tinkling noise as it's blown further away by the soft breeze. Aaalright then.

The gateway looms before you, a small shimmer covering the open space in the arch. You catch Cerys glance, noticing her tight grip on her sister's shoulder. Ugh, fine. You step forwards, prodding the shimmer with a finger.

It passes through and the shimmer does nothing. You turn back to Cerys and shrug, walking through the thing without even a tingle. You just start looking around when you hear a noise from behind, glancing back you see the shimmer briefly turn gold when Cerys passes through, then disappear. Uhh. You step closer to make sure you aren't seeing things. Yup, she's totally glowing. A soft golden light shines off of her for a minute, quickly fading down to nothing as you watch.

She opens her mouth to say something when a gentle breeze passes by; something about it catches your attention, mostly because it's coming in the opposite direction of the already existing breeze. What? You look over there, but there is nothing but thick forest. "I guess we're supposed to be here then." Cerys words bring your eyes back to her, and noticing your raised eyebrow she elaborates. "Gaia just gave me a..." She stops, trying for words before just shrugging. "A message I guess, that we can be here." She doesn't release her grip on her sister's shoulder, but at this point you feel more like it's so Una doesn't float off with glee than run into anything dangerous.

Alright then... You decide it's probably better not to question it and just turn back to the large building. The smaller hall off to the right is mostly empty, just a few tables and chairs. You move up the other set of stairs, moving into the big building itself. It's completely dark inside and you try to look along the walls for a lightswitch or something when Cerys starts glowing again. This time she doesn't react, looking all for the world like she is meant to be glowing.

"Uhh, Cerys." She look over from where she was reaching towards what looked suspiciously like a lightswitch. "You do know you are glowing again right?" She just nods at you, completely ignoring your question as she starts flicking several switches, light turning on one by one and baring the room to your eyes.

Set in the middle as a centrepiece is a large round table, a map of the earth that is visibly glowing slightly with magic, arrayed around the table are easily two dozen chairs. Off to either side are large masses of tables with chairs lining them. In one corner you see something made of metal, several display screens lining it and buttons everywhere. Looking up, you see a big chandelier, hanging over the table and providing the majority of the light in the room. This place looks important.

You move past all of that, ascending the stairs in the back onto the upper floor. Upstairs is much more closed, corridors leading around with rooms set into them; they look more like very nicely furnished offices than anything else, if they were made by elves. Actually. You move over to a balcony at the end of the corridor, staring down at the little village you'd just passed through. This totally looks like something right out of Tolkien. You lean forwards, looking down from the finely carved railings. The hell is this place for then? Seeing that you already have a place to stay, seeing an empty village really raised questions as to how many people Gaia expected to be staying here.

You hear a shriek of glee from behind you and glancing back, you see that Cerys has finally let her sister off her leash and she's taking complete advantage of it. She's running through the hallways, poking her head into the offices as she moves towards you. When she gets there you lean to the side, letting her catch herself against the wood as she stares down at the place, eyes glittering. "Ohmygodthisissocool." It takes you a second to fish through the explosion of words and nod.

"Yeah, this place is pretty cool looking, completely empty though."

She doesn't seem dissuaded by your words and starts bouncing as you see the boss coming down the corridor. "That just means that we can fill it up, ooooh it's like a secret base!" You tilt your head as she keeps going. "We can have sleepovers and secret meetings and tea parties and-" Cerys cuts her off by setting her hand on her sister's head, ruffling her hair as she stares down at the view.

"Well, I suspect that it is a base, maybe not a secret one." She nods at a particular spot on the roof and you notice an antenna, a lot of antennas. "Remember the base we stopped off at in France?" She poses the question to you and it takes a moment for it to set in. You try not to think back to then, but you do remember that the military place you'd stopped at, it has a crap ton of antennas and places for the soldiers to stay at... Really now? You look back at the elven village, the sight of the arena kind of making things click into place. This is a military base, if it was designed by a nerd.

"Oh."

She nods, letting go of her sister and watching her run back into the main room, the two of you moving to follow her. "Yes, oh." You descend the stairs as you watch Una poke the probably very expensive computer, making sure to avoid the several big red buttons. "Considering that we are the only people on the Island that I'm aware of, I have to wonder what she's planning to do with all of this." You nod as you move down the stairs, catching sight of another archway against the wall. Hmm.

You walk over quickly and poke your head through. Huh. Honestly, if it wasn't for the fancy wooden walls you'd think you'd just stepped back into the Clocktower. Comfortable looking sofas and armchairs, a big TV against a wall and several different coffee tables waited for you. And it's only once you actually step through do you feel the very soft carpet. Alright then, break room? You notice a remote sitting at the base of the TV and snatch it up, flicking the thing on. Wonder if the last person left it on the porn channel. You smirk as the TV blinks on, a giant robot beating the shit out of a dinosaur in fairly crappy animation. Umm. When they start speaking in something distinctly Asian you just give up.

You flick to the next channel, an Asian voice singing out to you as two shoddily animated men punch each other in a shitty looping animation. Umm. You look to the side when you see Una practically dash into the room, incoherent squeaking noises coming from her as she stares at the screen. She drops to the floor, crossing her legs and leaning against one of the coffee tables as she stares at the screen with rapt attention. Cerys stops in the doorway, looking between her sister and the screen, a look of familiarity dawning on her.

Really feel like I'm missing something here.

I think we'll need Cerys to translate for Una from now on.

[X] Try and find the news channel

I really want to hear about what happened. The counter force made a public announcement while not telling the public about everything last time, they might make another or it could be from the Clocktower, or rather someone used by proxy.
