When you wake up in the morning, the sun gently heating the edges of your sense, you just groan and turn over, burying your head into the pillow. You drift in and out of sleep for the next several hours, eventually Una wakes up on her own. Though she doesn't try to wake you, eventually she starts fidgeting. You sigh and sit up, moving your arm off of her. She immediately jumps up and walks to the bathroom quickly. When she returns, you are half-way through getting dressed and Morgan has returned to peek through the door for the fifth time since she woke up. Nice of her to not try and wake me.
You call out a sleepy greeting, which she responds to with a bright chirpy laugh, handing you a mug and directing you to the table. A glorious meal awaits you, bacon sandwiches, still sizzling and just barely crisped on the corners. You slump down at the table rapidly, gnawing your way through the food fast enough that even Morgan blinks at you. When you give her an eye, she wisely lets you return to stuffing yourself with her meat. When you are done, you quietly thank her as you help her with the dishes.
She blinks for a moment before shaking her head. "No, it's fine. It looked like you needed it." You don't say anything back, but you let the small smile on your face speak for you.
When you are finished, you follow Una back into your room and glance around. Normally you would be setting out about now, but you just want to relax today, maybe you'll do something later. You follow Una over to her bookshelf, looking over it with a slow eye as you look for something. Eventually you are interrupted by Una gently tugging on your sleeve, when you look down, she's looking up at you with wide eyes and has a book clutched in her other hand. You smile as you let her gently lead you back into Morgan's room, you settling down on the sofa, her snuggling up on top of you.
You rest your chin on her shoulder as she leans back, taking the book from her hands and settling it in a more comfortable position. Then, you open it and start reading, speaking aloud as you go. "Alice was beginning to get very tired of sitting by her sister on the bank, and of having nothing to do..."
A good while later, your reading is interrupted by Morgan quietly clearing her throat. When you look over, she points to the clock and you realise that it's been five hours. The break is evidently enough for Una to realise that she was very hungry, as her stomach attested to. She wiggles her way off of your lap as you make a note of the page you were on. Morgan has evidently mostly prepared lunch as well, though the sandwich fillings are left out for you to choose because she doesn't know what you like.
When you are done, you relax in your seat for a while as you let your meal go down. Eventually, you decide that you should probably get back to practising. You reluctantly make your way towards the Gym, passing through into the magical area without a glance, mostly helped by the fact that the Gym was near deserted. Bar, of course, the young couple kissing each other in the corner. Honestly, you have a room of your own.
You unleash your magic, sighing in relief as you feel it swell and roil without restraint. Hiding your magic like this was better, but magic was never supposed to be constrained, letting it flow out felt so much better. You roll your shoulders and stretch as you focus your magic, after yesterday you were well aware of your distinct lack of support abilities. If you had been faster or had some method to heal, you probably could have saved that man's life.
Alright then, lets see... Can I just, manifest my regeneration? Mmmm.
You focus your magic into its normal form of regeneration and you feel it start. Next, you try and emit it like you would your Aura.
(Cerys: 57 + 5= 62)
You feel your magic rush out around you, like your Aura would, and do... nothing. When you look closer, its just a cloud of magic that is floating around you, it's not doing anything. But how does my Regeneration work then? It takes a minute of thinking before the answer comes to mind. I feed my body magic, my body uses that to heal, I am not actually doing anything. Mmm. You spare a thought as to what would happen to your body if it didn't have magic, since apparently it was getting used to relying on yours to help with everything. That... would probably be bad. I should avoid running out, if I even can.
You sigh as you shift to rest your weight on one leg. Haaaaa. Ok then, would it still heal someone like this? The floating cloud moves slightly at your direction, but doesn't do much else. Maybe if I fed them magic directly? That seems... dangerous, but it makes sense. I really need some way to test this out safely... Maybe I can ask if they have some pets I can test this on? That would help, but you don't know if healing animals would carry over to healing humans without issue.
You shake your head as you go back to poking your cloud, trying to make something out of it. The next three hours are an effort in frustration as the cloud just does nothing at all. It floats to your direction, sort of, but it doesn't do anything. You keep trying, but it feels like you are trying to reach something that isn't even there, like picking out a coin from a bag when the coin has already fallen through a hole.
Eventually you just give it up as a bad job, returning to your room and seeing that the couple is still there. You only spare them a glance, but that is more than long enough for you to transmit your disapproval, you hope. When you get back, Una is pestering Morgan about something, to which she looks desperately embarrassed. She nearly throws herself at you as you enter, begging you to save her from your sister. You never do figure out what they were talking about, but the sly looks Una keeps sending Morgan give you something of a clue.
When they ask you about your own progress, you just shrug and shake your head. Morgan nods understandingly and smiles. "Hit your first stumbling block then?"
You nod as you stretch, still feeling energetic despite the enormous cloud of magic you had created. "Yeah, I expected it to at least do something, but it just doesn't." You start pacing around the room.
Morgan hums as her eyes follow you from where she is sitting. "It happens, you can't be good at everything." She continues starting at you as you pace before eventually she sighs. "You look really antsy, miss the sky?" You look over as you think about it, you don't really, you were just feeling energetic right now. Impossible to sit down where just earlier you had been feeling tired. Still, you nod, you don't have anything better to do.
Morgan brushes a lock of her hair back as she stands, making her way towards her shoes, looking over her shoulder when you stand there. "Well, coming? I haven't shown you around the city yet have I?" You send a look to Una, who nods slightly before running over to put away the book she had been holding. The three of you slip your shoes on and make your way out of the base, the sky just clearing from what appeared to be a hail storm? What the hell? You send a long look at the sky, but it doesn't respond. British weather.
Morgan leads the two of you through the streets, turning several corners before suddenly, you are facing a river. The water is a murky green and there are boats moving up and down it freely, in the distance you can see a ship with several turrets on it, sitting moored and covered in decorations. Morgan notices your gaze and explains. "That's the HMS Belfast, an old Cruiser from World War Two, it's a museum now." You nod as your eyes move over it, it's big, easily three stories tall and probably... a hundred and sixty, maybe a hundred and seventy metres long?
When you share your numbers with Morgan, she smiles and just points over. "We can go and have a look you know, it's open." You look at Una, who just nods from where she is starting at the ship, eyes glued on the forward guns. You muffle your laughter, but let Morgan take the lead as you walk over to it. The closer you get, the more you are aware of just how big it was, when you stood at the ticket booth, it dwarfed you. Then you remember that at least half of the ship is underwater, so it was even bigger than it looks.
You pay for the tickets and step aboard the ship. Just walking along the deck was an experience, you moved towards the bow and look around. The bridge towers over you, anti-aircraft emplacements and radar on each side. The turrets themselves are easily two, maybe three metres tall. Christ, and they call this a Light Cruiser. I want to see how big a Heavy Cruiser is. When you walk through the inside, you... feel something as you walk. When you pass by what used to be the mess hall, you catch a glimpse of something out of the corner of your eye. You spin to look at it, but when you stop, there isn't anything there.
Morgan looks back from where she was bent over, inspecting a shaving implement of some sort. "Hey, you ok?"
You nod as you keep looking around, but eventually just turn back to her. "Yeah, I thought I saw something, but there wasn't anything there."
She narrows her eyes slightly at your words, shifting a little closer as Una reads a mural on the wall. "I think I know what you are talking about, this place is... different. I would think it haunted, but I know that we've already sent someone over to check if it is, it's not." She moves her gaze to a display in front of you. When you turn to look, you see that someone had slightly knocked a display item, a hat of some sort. When you blink, its shifted slightly back into its position and you could almost see a hand moving away as you take a step back.
You sent a quick look at Morgan as you gently coax a little magic to ready, but she just shakes her head. "No, this isn't like any ghost I've seen or heard of." Her eyes stare at nothing as she speaks. "This is more like... a spirit of some kind." Her words make you relax a little, thinking back to the last spirit you had encountered. She hums as she gently runs a hand down the wall next to her, cocking her head as you feel her gaze shift somehow. "Yes, definitely a spirit of some kind."
She stands back up properly and relaxes completely now, which is enough for you to release your magic. "It's nothing to be worried about." At your questioning gaze she smiles slightly. "She's just an old girl resting in retirement, she's had a long run you know?" At her words, you send out a little slither of magic, the same way you had with the forest spirit. There is a vague feeling of rest, coming from the other end. Underlying it there is a lurking fire, ready to jump into action at the slightest moment, boilers burning and turbines churning.
You let out a long, slow breath as you gently retract yourself. You'd learned a lot about the Belfast's history while you had walked, the plaques telling her story. She deserved her rest and who were you to wake her from her rest. The rest of the tour is quiet, neither you or Morgan say much of anything. You both catch constant glimpses, flashes of the past, people walking through the halls or the whisper of screaming turbines. By the end of your tour, even Una has managed to pick up on the atmosphere somewhat, looking around a little reverently as she carefully keeps her hands to herself. When you step off of the ship, you all turn to sent her one last look. You feel the urge to do something as you look at her, but you don't know what.
Out of the corner of your eye, you see an old man come to a stop just next to you, he is heavily wrinkled and leaning on a cane in his old age. He's stares fondly at the ship before he straightens up with a grunt of effort, you hear his spine crack from here, but he continues until he is standing tall and proud. He moves one hand into a salute and you can almost see him, a flash back decades ago, back aboard the ship, parting for the last time. When he curls back over, spine resting back into place. You see him glance over to you and smile a knowing smile, before he starts slowly making his way back towards the car that is waiting for him.
You let out a long breath as you turn back to Morgan, but she doesn't have anything to say. Eventually you just move back towards home, Una slowly opening up with her chattering as she talks about all of the different things she saw or nearly poked. You personally were spent, all of your energy from earlier had deserted you and left a calm tiredness in it's wake.
When you get back to your room, you help Morgan make dinner, a simple Bolognaise. You eat as Una continues chattering, drawing both of you into the conversation. You don't talk about the spirit, and when you are finished you settle down with Una to continue reading, while Morgan takes her own book into her plush seat.
When you go to bed, you are still quietly thinking about your discovery today. When you sleep, you dream of the sea.
