Magical Girl Escalation Taylor (Worm/Nanoha)

Well, my impression is that the Al Hazardans had a role in that. Mostly with… let's call it 'selective breeding'.
That or they just uplifted everyone...

Taylor already has the basic tools for it.
True. But mutagen is way too risky for wide use. Unless it comes prepackaged with mutations already baked in. But even then there are risks.
For the quests... we likely can developed an safe serum for that role, just not within the limited time of the quest.

Though there is the problem of potentially causing a magical elite to dominate the world in the long term. But that's a problem for the future. Capes and the Endbringers are a here and now problem.
To my understanding magically active worlds tend to rapidly increase the proportion of their population that are mages until basically everyone is.

I'm probably the only one who sees that as more of a goal than a problem? Not that I tend to much enjoy reading about transition periods in military tech, whatever the flavor.

I'm pretty sure that doesnt happen... naturally.

Is that a certainty? Seems like it might turn on what exactly a Linker core is and how it affects the body. Any reason to think that actually using it, and not just having it be a vestigial organ, makes it more dominant of a trait to then spread....

But when all else fails, theres still quite a lot of mages to work on improving mutagenic solutions :V

Though I'm still in favor of Taylor joining up with the TSAB directly post-story, rather than trying to conquer Earth as a supreme empress so its unified to join... since I don't expect she'd actually go quite that route? :V Probably a part of why I'd rather build a magical girl team instead of renovate the PRT into magic cops armed with military++ equipment (because that always goes swimmingly and leads to a massive decrease in crime right? :???: )

I'm actually pretty sure magic has a lot of other uses, we just aren't exposed to it directly. But they put things back together supernaturally fast somehow.

Surely there must be more uses for magic beyond combat. The MGLN magic system is incredibly open-ended in that, as long as you understand the underlying 'code', you can essentially create whatever spell you want. Im sure there a people on administrated worlds who's sole job is inventing new spells and ways to use magic.

Their entire society is built around magic, all, or at least most of their devices run off of it, to the point that it's practically used instead of electricity. So Nanoha magic, indeed, is useful for a lot more than just warfare.

This was a good look into the deployment of PRT mages. And also slightly terrifying.

I have to say I sort of loved the reference to how the collapse of Yugoslavia went worse with capes mixed in. In a horrified sense of loved

Yeah, but who wants to watch a program about everyday life in a magic based society when they could instead watch one about miniaturized Gundams pretending to be magical girls and shooting everything with lasers?

*slowly raises hand*

Hard ass, female, magic, commander, named Tanya? Oh dear. That's going to be bad for the villains. Oh oh! Once the US is clear can she lead the charge against Gelchecraft (sp?) in germany?!

edit: actually... stop and consider the long term repercussions for a bit. Right now the PRT are playing by cape rules but the longterm plan is to reassert normal law and order. Not soon, but given ten years? Twenty? I get the feeling vigilantism is going to become illegal again eventually. What will Taylor do then? Or will a couple of decades of combat and helping to flip the world on it's head be enough to satisfy her need to improve the world? She's certainly going to be the biggest name of the new generation considering she opened the door for the rest of the world.

We actually do see that while all their stuff runs on magic, not a lot of stuff relies on high personal magic power(which we mainly see in combat).

I think for civilian use having a Linker Core is more like not needing to charge your phone than being a massive quality of life impact.

If she doesn't join the TSAB, which is pretty likely, in 10 or 20 years Taylor will have 10 or 20 years as a Mage and have helped build the society they're living in. She'll either have retired from a direct combat role, or more likely joined the PRT / Magic Squad as an elite troubleshooter.

@Silently Watches

With the new exp system for templateless mages can Mac develop a healing spell better than Physical Heal eventually?
Yes. Since he's just an ally, I'll probably do his skill tree development on my own, though suggestions are of course welcome.

Once the federal government and official law enforcement are top dogs again, vigilantism is probably going to be illegal again, yes. Capes and mages will be gently or not-so-gently directed to other pursuits than acting out their live-action version of cowboys and Indians. The Protectorate will still exist for a while, but it will essentially become a feeder program for mages to enter the PRT.

Which when you think about it is probably for the best because Earth Bet's current way of doing things is screwed up.

For Taylor in particular, I could see a couple of options. #1, yes she could work with the PRT as an elite troubleshooter. We don't know how aware shards are of what's going on outside, but if they do have some kind of awareness, they might start pumping out more A and S-class threats as their dying gasp, which would require substantial firepower. #2, she could pull a Nanoha and become an instructor. She would have the most experience out of anyone alive in combat magic and, thanks to Perfect Storm, magic in general. #4, by that time the world should be aware of the TSAB, so she could be their ambassador of sorts. #5, going down a darker road, if Perfect Storm deployed the rebirth mechanic every time she died she would be functionally immortal, and throwing magic in the mix it wouldn't be hard for her to become the god-queen of Earth Bet. Maybe serve as one member of the Undying Triumvirate composed of her, Alexandria, and Dragon.

Wait, rebirth mechanic?

I don't think the bigger "vigilante" organizations are going to disappear completely, though. Under more control and even more pressure to join up, sure.

In the end the proliferation of magic and mana-based weaponry could lead to the worsening of international conflicts as nations find new, more numerous, more stable and significantly more powerful war assets in mages.

It would definitely help stabilize the current state of affairs, but if left unchecked it just as easily may end up on Breaker-baser mutually assured destruction.

What's more, if Bet has any hope of establishing a unified government in the (not so) near future, I'd think it'd lie more in no-frontiers magic-based NGOs than in any individual nation's military or law enforcement.

With the occasional person having access to city destroying firepower, terrorism and enemy first strikes without warning would be major government concerns. They'll try to find ways to defensively counter Breaker level firepower since it's impossible to keep mages out with conventional customs controls.

Smuggling will be another issue.

It's Gesellschaft. That can't be that difficult to remember, can it? It's simply the German word for society. Do you want a pronounciation guide too?

When Taylor dies, Perfect Storm overwrites somebody with her mind and body.

This would be totally crazy but kinda fun to see happen. I am just curious now what that society would look like and how they would interact with others

It'd be fun, but probably best as a series of short stories interspersed throughout the timeline of interesting bits. Cuz, let's face it, once you have the world firmly in your iron grip, 95% of your time is going to be taken up by administrative bullshit.

I'd argue the opposite actually. Sure they'll hold up the best while things are ramping up, the they'll almost certainly be the first to be dismantled once a certain threshold is reached. They're basically the biggest and most obvious targets. It's the smaller groups and individuals that are more likely to slip through the cracks.

I didn't learn to reliably spell in english (my native language) until I'd been writing for the better part of a year. And that was just by force of repetition And spellcheck. And I still regularly mess up homophones. I suck at spelling. And I don't even know any german speakers so I have no idea why that would make it any easier for me to remember. Don't even know how to properly pronounce it never mind spell it.

Meh, it is what it is. So I suck at spelling. So what. I've got spell check, and I've got readers who point out my mistakes, and I can learn by brute force if nothing else. Not to mention some good advice along the way from a few kind people. I wanted to write so I kept at it. I'm not be the best, I doubt I'll ever write the next Black Company, or Pern, or Dune. But in five years I've come a hell of a long way and I'll fight anyone who tries to tell me I'm not good now. And maybe someday I'll take a crack at writing the next Harry Potter or Percy Jackson series. It was worth the effort. :)
