Magical Girl Escalation Taylor (Worm/Nanoha)

[X] Go with Laura to check the entrance. If this is an attack by a villain, that is likely where they are coming from.
-[x] Use telepathy to tell Samantha, Dragon and Cassiel what you think you've seen so far (purple energy dome surrounding resort) and where you're headed.

Given that this resort seems to be something that relatively wealthy people go to, its likely that this is an attack to try to hold people for ransom, thus that purple dome cutting people off from escape (if its meant for containment)

Had a thought about the dome. Where is it being generated from? If it's not a parahuman shaker effect, there's a source somewhere. Likely in the centre, or around the perimeter underwater.

[X] Take to the air and see what's going on. Most capes can't fly, so this will give you the best vantage point. Just don't get caught transforming!
-[X] Then prioritize. Are these attacker(s) going after civilians? If not, then why are they here?

Because that dome just screams magic use at me rather than capes. I think the enemy will be coming from the skies.

:o
Taylor, why are you trying to turn Cassiel back into a genocidal monstrosity?

but if you're going out to check on your customers and want some company
*cringe*
Yeah, let's do it.
What people will think when they see Calamity working together with a known villain, patrolling neighborhoods cowed into paying protection money to Winter Hill?
Only good things surely.

Chevalier can fuck off
*cringe harder*

the sea explodes as ribbons of purple light cross over each other and form a solid wall of undulating purple and pink.
Precia and Nanoha are working together to reserve a resort for their own use, probably to celebrate Fate's birthday? :V

[X] Go with Laura to check the entrance. If this is an attack by a villain, that is likely where they are coming from.
-[X] After locating the villians Instantly wreck them with high powered spells. No pussy footing around.

[X] Take to the air and see what's going on. Most capes can't fly, so this will give you the best vantage point. Just don't get caught transforming!
-[X] Temporarily change the design of the Barrier Jacket to something less recognizable, if possible. Lose the hat, change the colors...
-[X] Then prioritize. Are these attacker(s) going after civilians? If not, then why are they here?
-[X] We have an AI. Leverage it!
—[X] Have Perfect Storm scan the dome. What's it made of? Tech, powers or magic?
—[X] Have Perfect Storm conference call Samantha, Cassiel and Dragon. Do they know what's going on? Can they find out what someone might be here for? Y'know, besides us.

I was tempted to take to the air, but some good points were raised about making ourselves a huge target and such.

Also we already have on our Barrier Jacket it's just in swimsuit form, which doesn't affect how much protection it provides just how much decency it provides:
Instead you have Perfect Storm recreate the swimsuit Barrier Jacket and throw some clothes over it.

@Silently Watches How would using flight affect our mana poisoning? We should really consider that when deciding on the best course. Also, can our barrier jacket be adjusted without the bright flash? As others pointed out, we are already in BJ mode, so if we can reconfigure it without something so attention getting, we'd be dealing with less of a chance of outing ourselves.*

*As capes. Outing ourselves in other ways would require Taylor to be a little bit less clueless =P

Right now, we're assuming that the dome is an attack, but the dome could be a defense against something happening outside of it. Check your assumptions, people. The entire point of this* may be to trick us into using magic now that will mean we carry the mana poisoning over to a real problem later.

*The author's point, not the person who made the dome.

Jokes aside, even though Taylor is just trying to make friends, Laura probably thinks Taylor is hitting on her.
Part of what makes this situation so funny is that both Taylor and Laura think the other is gay.

Using your flight will not have any impact on your mana overload*, nor will any other spells. The only thing you have to worry about is your cartridges. Those are what ups that number.

Your Barrier Jacket can be reformatted with little more than a ripple.

* Because strictly speaking you are not in mana poisoning yet. You don't get there until you reach 100% on your overload, and each stage after that is based on hitting the next hundred percent mark. So stage 5, the lethal one, is what happens when you reach 500% overload.

I still don't want to fly, especially considering that this conference call let us coordinate all our forces and I don't want to lose this coordination immediately because we split up with Laura.

Interesting ideas to add to the vote, I never know how to handle the "broad goal vs micromanage" angle from one quest to the next :???:

Ah, I thought I recalled that mana poisoning would not go away at all without spending a week+ without using magic at all. Knowing that we are in mana overload instead of poisoning helps.

I'm torn three ways, here:
Going with Laura helps build our relationship with her*, and if nothing else, she's right that the most likely place to find the problem, provided it is an attack, is at the entrance to the island. "Most probable location" is not a guarantee that whatever is happening is there, and people could get hurt if we jump the wrong way.
Helping evacuate civilians is the obvious "hero" choice. The downside here is that we can tell that whatever the danger is IS NOT HERE. The people here look to be the safest inside the barrier, because we can at least be sure that they look safe right now, and taking them anywhere else might put them in worse danger.
Flight based reconnaissance gives us the best chance of spotting trouble. Showing off powers is a risk, but how are we expecting to help the civilians out or get them somewhere safe without revealing our hero status even more explicitly?

Remember, back when the party got attacked, a number of people died because we took the time to put some token effort into keeping people from seeing us armor up^. I feel that was still the right move at the time, given how many classmates we were standing near, making getting into costume pretty much a guarantee of outing us if we didn't do anything to conceal it. Looking around to see how safe it is to change could make a big difference in how likely we are to face consequences from going Calamity.

Also, first thing we should do is open a party line to Sam, Dragon, and Cassiel, in case any of them don't already know about this and for coordination purposes.

*I care very little if that relationship is ever romantic. Just being friends is a relationship. Sometimes the connotations of the word can lead to misunderstanding, which my OCD makes me compulsively overexplain.
^ I don't like calling it transforming when it's only your clothes changing. Usually I use it anyway, of course, because that's a common usage. I just don't like it.

I've been thinking and rethinking exactly how that would work out. Most likely the final decision is going to be that a little magic here and there (like teleporting to Kayleigh last night) would not impact the ability to decrease your mana overload/poisoning level, but extensive use like during a fight would. So to go back to your original question, flying by itself wouldn't keep you from clearing the mana overload. Dogfighting would, as would using your bigger spells like Solar Wrath. It won't increase the counter, though, just keep it from decreasing.

It's probably just a set up by Kayleigh anyways.

"Give them a baddie to fight, so they both realize how sexy the other one is."

The first, because the best way to defuse an aoe effect like that dome seems to be is to find and kil er.... Cut off it's source.

The second, because communicating with allies is needed if we want to maximize efficiency. As others have said, this is supposed to be our time off, and while we all knew it would get interupted that doesn't mean we shouldnt chastise whoever has the balls.

I mean, unless she convinced Cassiel to help and they're now unisoned.
Hmmm...
I'm almost sad that you decided to try out Unison now because I had a great time in my head to show it off coming up. Oh well. :)
Hmmmm...
Oh, the scene will still take place! It just would have been that much more fun if it was also the first time Unison showed up. But it might actually work out better this way because Taylor will recognize the appearance changes that come from Unison with Cassiel.
o_O :o

Calling it. Even though no specific subvote won, there are a couple I'm going to pull in anyway because they're just good ideas.

Next chapter will get written… sometime?

Information is power to the skies

A pretty one-sided vote wasn't it?
I wouldn't go that far, it wasn't even a landslide, just clearing half the votes. While it beat the nearest contender by 2:1, there were still 17 votes for another plan and 21 votes for the plan that won. That's only 55.26315789473684%.
Still, a majority rather than a plurality.
If reading it wasn't clear, it was 21-11-5-1. Hardly one-sided.
