Magical Girl Escalation Taylor (Worm/Nanoha)

These ones have zero reason to attack the civilians. They have no idea what our motive is, and given they seem to be ruling a small village with an iron fist it's likely their first instinct would be a power grab.

Also, why would you attack your own worshipers/slaves? Sure the wasps might but that's why they should be pulled in and dealt with first. Tay could just nuke them, problem solved.

but I just pointed out the problem with that: it's not likely that the wasps would be effected, and you might not bring in the unknown cape either.

allow me to quote the relevant FAQ at the start of the thread:

Whenever you decide to set up a dimensional barrier, it's important to keep in mind that parahumans are not mages. Some of them have powers that are magic-like enough that it makes no difference; others are no more magical than normal humans.

Capes with these kinds of powers ARE brought into Recursion Field: altered elemental composition, energy-based states, shapeshifters, touch-based and area-based exotic effects, telekinesis or pyrokinesis or any other -kinesis, energy blasts, projected forcefields, power nullifiers or enhancers or manipulators, telepathic control of other organisms, regenerators, teleporters, pre-cogs.

Capes with these kinds of powers ARE NOT brought into Recursion Field: advanced technology, passive thought or emotion manipulation, superstrength, superdurability, analytical superthinking, enhanced senses, flight, superspeed.

The "are" list trumps the "are not" list. These are not all-inclusive because really, there is no possible way they can be, but by and large any unmentioned powers could probably (hopefully) be compared to one of those listed.

Parahumans have the same odds of possessing Linker Cores as everyone else, but until they either start exercising their magic or lose connection to their shards (for instance, by you giving them a Device), it will be their cape powers that determine whether or not they fall into a dimensional barrier.

in other words, we might not bring in the unknown cape, and the Recursion Field will almost certainly NOT bring in the wasps. also, if anyone here is secretly putting in a bit of magic practice, they'll be brought along for the ride, and then we'd have a civilian in the crossfire.

TL;DR, that plan is likely to go VERY wrong.

Since my plan didn't catch any support and re-reading Wyrd's it's about 90% the same, so might as well change to support his.

[X] Plan: To each their own

@Wyrd maybe specify punching the unknown parahuman with a Hardlight shield projection instead of the directly connected limb?
My suggestion for using the blaster was to maintain a standoff distance, but they might not recognize the ominous hum as a threat, where as punching someone with a projected shield is still punching someone, just without touching them.

@Silently Watches, does it really affect the outcome of the fight whether the plan goes on super sten-by-step detail? Or would a more concise lead to the same effect?

'Cause every fight scene it seems like we are trying to control every second and action of the fight, and I imagine it can get asphyxiating to write like that.

Therefore, I propose this:

[X] Vista locks down the Blaster
-[X] Taylor bursts down the unknown cape, while Samantha rushes the Master down.

Going on past votes, SW wants a bit more detail than that, though not necessarily as many steps as mine has. There are a few specific details that have to be included, though. Going lethal, for one, or using Multishot as I'm doing both have to be spelled out or they don't happen. The fact that we have three people to direct and three targets to hit is the other thing that gives my plan as many lines as it has.

An issue I have with most of the offered plans is Unisoning with the Simurgh. We, in-setting, don't really trust her yet, so why would we decide to combine with her out of the blue?

It is less likely to affect the outcome in this case so much as it does the process. Mostly because you have the element of surprise on your side. I actually don't mind all the detail because it gives me more of a scaffold to build the scene on. Otherwise I would have to come up with everything myself.

Not a good idea to test out in the middle of a combat zone, imo.

I figured if we want to ever see it, we need to bite the bullet and do it. It might be a truly horrible idea, that will bite us in the brain, but the very fact that it isn't necessary, that Sam and Missy might each be capable of fighting all three solo, and are a pretty safe bet with just the two of them, make this a... less ill-advised than other times might be.

I feel like Silently is the type to want us to succeed but also willing to let us fail, so it's likely, even probable, that Cassie is actually as helpful as she's shown us to be.

That said, if we antagonize the pocket endbringer or come up with faulty plans... well that's on us.

[X] Plan: To each their own v1.5
-[X] Master meets Blaster
--[X] Taylor uses Multishot to knock out the Master and all of the Wasps
--[X] Start non-lethal in case the Blaster can reverse the transformation
--[X] If non-lethal flare shooter doesn't work, go to frost beam, then lethal. Consider wasps as unwilling antagonists.
-[X] Tank V. Blaster
--[X] Samantha goes after the Baster
--[X] If the wasps automatically attack the person attacking the master, Sam is the best suited to take that attack
-[X] Five finger death punch the unknown.
--[x] Vista takes out the unknown
--[X] Using her powers to distort space, she punches the unknown and then snaps away, using hit and run tactics.
--[X] Vista keeps her shield between her and the unknown when not actively attacking.

*shrugs*

  • [X] Plan: To each their own
    -[X] Master meets Blaster
--[X] Taylor uses Multishot to knock out the Master and all of the Wasps
--[X] Unison with Cassiel because why not, and because I want to see that get used eventually
--[X] If the wasps automatically attack the person attacking their maker, Sam is the best suited to take that attack
--[X] Sam switches to helping Vista once the blaster is down
-[X] Five finger death punch the unknown.
--[x] Vista takes out the unknown
--[X] Using her powers to distort space, she punches the unknown and then snaps away, using hit and run tactics.
--[X] Vista keeps her shield between her and the unknown when not actively attacking.
--[X] Just to be clear, Vista is not aiming for lethal. I just liked that phrasing. Lethal remains an option if non-lethal doesn't cut it.
    [X] Smart Girl Power
    -[X] Taylor supports, focusing unknown
--[X] Unison with Cassiel for processing boost
--[X] Ring Bind the Unknown, the Blaster, and what Wasps she can
--[X] Nonlethal flare blast the unknown if Ringbound, otherwise use Telekinesis and Temporal Sludge first then blast
    -[X] Samantha rushes the Blaster
--[X] Swat down any wasps as feasible, but disable the blaster first. Whips are good for breaking the arms that aim beams right? Then finish off wasps
-[X] Vista plays with space, focusing Master
--[X] Manipulate space to put the Master in reach of some Brute knockout punches, keep safe with space-warps and Shield
--[X] Try to corral unbound Wasps for Sam/out of your way
[x] Plan - To Each Their Own v2
    -[x] Rescue, THEN Ravage
--[x]Taylor and Cassiel Unison, because more processing power, mana control, and telekinesis...as well as a chance to keep a closer eye on her. Meanwhile, Vista and Sam prepare their moves.
--[x] Vista warps the area, isolating the three capes and their two guards from the surviving sacrifices.
--[x] TK the hostages further away, if the warp isn't enough.
--[x] Taylor drops a Temporal Sludge over each group - the hostages to buy time to react if something threatens them, the enemies to slow them down.
--[x] Prepare Ring Binds for the enemy.

    [X] Plan Surprise Attack
    -[X] Taylor unison with Cassiel.
--[X] Use Telekinesis to slam the Blaster face first into the wall, preventing her of using her power, and Ring Bind her in such position.
--[X] Use Flare Shooter Multishot to deal with the wasps and their Master.
-[X] Sam drops on the unknown to knock him out. If it works, knock the Master out too.
-[X] Vista warps space to protect the innocents and support Sam.
[X] Target the Master first. She's the one with the minions and the one who can probably do the most damage immediately.
    [x] Recursion field the baddies
    [x] Nonlethal for wasps.
[X] Vista locks down the Blaster

I figured people weren't going to be willing to vote for it in a more serious fight. If I'd known you had a scene plotted out without it, I'd have been happy to leave it out of the vote. C'est la vie.

Oh, the scene will still take place! It just would have been that much more fun if it was also the first time Unison showed up. But it might actually work out better this way because Taylor will recognize the appearance changes that come from Unison with Cassiel.

You know, the next group of people we should offer the GB ritual to is the Canadian Mounties. Can't hurt to offer power to the pathologically polite, and I really want to see a moose GB.... named Bullwinkle, with a partner who has a squirrel GB named Rocky :p

Ah, so this would be the point that Vista realizes just what Cassiel is?

As a Device that is designed to combine with and assist a mage, yes. She's likely already been told about that detail, though I'm sure this will be her first time seeing a Unison. Recognizing her as the Simurgh, though? Not even close.

Sudden thought: Would telepathy help get around shard induced social blindness? It's clear that we send a lot more than words with our telepathy even when we aren't trying to, and have sent images and pure emotional content. Narwhal wouldn't have to fear in person social interaction if she could sense the emotions she can't read through body language. Villains such as Bitch might be able to be rehabilitated to some extent in the same manner; the earlier a new trigger can be found and helped out, the better their ability to adapt to a feeling-dog/device's aid would tend to be.

This makes me want to see Bitch with Angelique or Brutus as a Guardian Beast. Also, I want to see what her power could do to canine* GBs. I don't care that she's a villain, it would be fun to see.

*Canon shows she can affect wolves, too, so can she do foxes, coyotes, or what? Her power might not go any further than dogs and wolves, but it would be fun to find out.

And now I'm starting to imagine "parahuman social disability" as a registered condition under the disabilities branch of Social Security that comes with free testing to see if they can create a GB, and a specialized ritual created that makes Beasts that focus on "defending" their masters from social attacks/interactions.

Coyotes maybe. It depends on her Shard's arbitrary definition of 'dog'. Classic race definition among canines is murky.

Pretty sure the very first dog her foster mother tried to drown was actualy a coyotes pup, and Rachel was too young to know.

I think there was a wog that implied it wasn't a dog.

@Silently Watches Would it be possible to create a variant of the GB ritual that produces a non-combat variant for emotional and social support? It seems like something the TSAB would have at least considered. Perfect Storm, being a war machine, is far less likely to have the relevant information to creating a civilian variant.

Y'know, considering what she does to them, I hope Rachel CAN"T mess with foxes. Foxes are awesome.

You don't want super powered fox GBs? Consider that the changes to Bastard are described as looking far more natural and graceful thanks to his being a wolf instead of a dog, showing that different species would have different changes from her powers.
