Magical Girl Escalation Taylor (Worm/Nanoha)

Okay, @Silently Watches, if I may ask some things:

-We know that Tim can build something to cancel out the Simurgh's scream on a wide area, however, could he build something that could unmake the programming she has already made?
-Can you tell us if Cassiel will contact Taylor in the near future, say, next week instead of middle of the arc? I know that I'm asking way more than you have any obligation to tell us, but I get the feeling we are more blind than we are due to rushing.

No, he can't. From the way I read the Simurgh's interlude, most of the effect of the scream is psychological rather than actually psychic.

Well, next arc is going to be all of two days long if that, so…

You aren't blind because of rushing. You're blind because Cassiel is the one and only plot point that I am forced to be this secretive about, but I don't want to lie to you OOC just to make it easier on me, so instead I wind up not telling you much. There are things going on that can't make sense until you hit the fulcrum point and probably won't make sense until everything's all wrapped up.

And with that being said, no, I can't tell you when Cassiel is going to contact Taylor again.

These rolls are not related to the current vote. They're for an arc way down the line. I just want to go ahead and get them over with.

EDIT: Pffft! :lol That works too, I guess.

Speaking of weird rolls, does anyone know how to use the Rolz.com roller and link the result into SV? I'm thinking of doing that in the future because SV's built in roller is screwy sometimes.

Install a screenshotting program, one that allows you to select an area to screenshot, and just screenshot the results? Lightshot for example.

Going to call this here. Psyraptor is the only person to vote in the last 24-plus hours, and he voted for the leading option anyway.

Well the actual 'audible' scream is a big piece of showmanship, most of the modifications she does is just some emotional nudging, and while the focused version can do more to reprogram a target, the main thing seems more of a potential threat that causes people to make things worse via their fear reaction.

Agreed. The Simurgh's greatest weapon isn't her scream, it's the paranoia she causes.

Oh well. Not happy with the intended path, but the thread has spoken. =\
Is it bad that I'm kind of glad it'll be over and done with soon? This subplot has been cooking for a while, and the longer it has dragged on, the worse I've felt about how cagey and unhelpful I've been, and how I'm trying not to manipulate you guys into going for it but at the same time not dissuade you from chasing after it either. It's at the point that I'm honestly a little worried about how the end of Cassiel's subplot is going to go over with the thread at large. It's…

You'll understand soon enough. Early in Arc 11, you'll see what I mean.

Wait... What? So far as I can tell, all you've given us is basically 'no you can't case after it'.

Like we've been trying to figure out ways how to interact or make advancements on that subplot and pretty much every suggestion has been met with either 'mechanic X does not work that way' or 'you can't do that because spoiler reasons'.

Pretty much all we have the ability to do is just wait and see. No other options have become apparent.

Pretty much... I'd asked thread before, but were there any particular hints to Cassiel's identity until this last one that I personally failed to catch? I know the original vote to keep connection open had something about asking Perfect Storm to monitor it (but I think that was more a safety measure against telepathy/master attacks... like Mama Mathers style, actually).

And its not entirely shocking that when the character proposes an idea in-character, while the most-knowing NPC (not that its clear how much she knows of us, but with how she contacts and watches Dragon too and others, maybe she does know we're Simurgh immune) warns us away from pursuing her.... well, I'm not happy about people surrendering to conveinence and shoving her in an experimental fairy-body rather than attempt a rescue, but not surprised I suppose. Not that I'm saying narrators are reliable or should be viewed as Word-of-QM, but it can weigh the scales a touch.

Short of a discovery of how to back-hack the telepathy ourselves, or socialing Cassiel to let us come after her and give info (and we've rarely if ever had a vote on interacting with her, its always an interlude at start of an update) , I really have no idea /how/ we might've tried to pursue her other than Taylor's suspicion justifying our leaping to conclusion about Fallen.

Almost more annoyed that it means once again neglecting our poor Guardian Beast (even moreso than Vista), right as we're headed for likely combat Arcs.... she had to rely on a random NPC admirer to get any kind of gear upgrade! For shaaame....

Unfortunately some (most?) of those suggestions made sense with what you know of the situation but don't fully mesh with the reality of the situation. Now that the vote has gone through I'm more comfortable revealing that there is a twist in the works that you had no way of predicting with the information provided to Taylor.

And before anyone asks, it is not a "you have to act completely differently from how you normally act or you'll die" twist. I learned my lesson last time, not making that mistake again.

This is the first time any hints regarding the Fallen were given, though a few people guessed at a connection.

Cassiel had very good reasons for warning you off fighting the Fallen. One of them is that the Fallen are 30-40 capes strong with other non-cape devotees. That's a lot of enemies with a lot of different powers for one girl and her pet to handle on their own.

Eh, one good ragnaroc with the safeties off could solve the issue in most cases... Probably kill Cassiel, but nothing's perfect. Bombardment from mas range would also work with less chance of killing our target.

Sorta against our MO though....not entirely, just generally. Do the fallen have kill orders? I forget.

A lot of my current regard/headcanon towards the Fallen is from LacksCreativity's Worm/SupCom story, so yeah; extremely dangerous/nigh suicidal to take on alone.

Pretty much to take on the Fallen you need to get a mile or two above them, spam WAS and other recon magic, prep Breaker spells and bombard the fuck out of them out of reach of most of their powers until they are all dead or unconscious.

Frankly the Fallen is one of the big targets a strong enough mage strike force should be able to take out. But it'll likely take like, at least 10 (at least 4 bombardment mages, 3-4 knight/CQC and speedblitz types to hunt down leakers, 2 support mages for battlefield control and general support) mages of sufficient strength to completely destroy them without undue risk. Well, 10 mages and their familiars to make it be without undue risk, and to guarantee taking em all out.

...They may be a worthy target to crush if we get enough recruits fitted with templates to do so in order to get recognition and prestige needed to spread magic to reliable folks if we need to.

Nanohaverse' magic being so damn versatile means we'll have options that the Protectorate and others do not to destroy the Fallen. Most prominently that (once sufficiently trained) our bombardment magic has non-lethal mode that does not lose power compared to lethal force.

The Fallen are, per WoG that I can't look up at the moment due to being on my potato, the fourth largest Cape group in America, after the Protectorate, the Elite, and an unnamed third group. They're not exactly an anthill that you want to kick in without thinking long and hard first.

Hence why we'll need at least 10 mages to kick their shit in without undue risk.

But eventually to help reverse the decline of society they need to get kicked sooner rather than later. Because taking down the Fallen in its entirety would put others on notice and help reduce the appeal of villains and slow the decay of society.

Not when you can launch nukes and know for certain whether or not you missed one. The hardest part in our position would be getting them all in one general area and psyching up to go murderhobo.

Well, my opinion of Taylor just took a big hit.
It seems like she vowed to save poor lil girl from captivity, but promptly decided to not bother with it too much and took the easy way out, even if it includes killing the girl in process of her saving.

Omake ideas:
- Tattletale somehow found out that Taylor caused a suicide of some girl and second-trigerred out of pure rage. Now her verbal beatdowns cause physical harm.
- UD!Cassiel met Fate and Erio to discuss this 'I'm a copy of dead person, what do' thing.

My working theory on Cassiel:
She's somehow connected with Endbringers. The Fallen's attempt to create new Endbringer or take control of already existing ones. Or she's supposed to become a vessel for the Endbringer, an avatar of some sort.
