Magical Girl Escalation Taylor (Worm/Nanoha)

Hm. Kayleigh's certainly smooth under pressure/suspicion. Perhaps too much so...
[paranoia intensifies]

Purity, after all, was a villain for years before she tried to turn her life around for her daughter's sake, and look at her now! A Protectorate-hero-in-training, someone who was already making waves in the New Orleans PHO threads in a good way. All it took was for someone to believe in her.
I'm pleased to know that Kayden is using her second chance to the fullest. Hoping she stays on her current path.

She's totally telling someone, but I doubt it'd be something malicious.
Maybe, maybe not. If she tells someone, who will that person spread the knowledge to (and so on)? We took a risk here, hopefully it pays off.

"Crikey, take a look at that beauty!

"This here's a wild optimist foraging for its natural diet of hope-berries and bright dreams. Optimists used to roam these lands in large herds, but the rise of the Internet destroyed their natural habitat and left them easy prey for their natural enemy, the shifty-eyed paranoiac. Right shame, too. We'll leave this one alone and wish it good luck in getting back to its den before anything else spots it."

:D I have too much fun sometimes.

Someone has to be optimistic, if only for sheer contrariness :p

Canon!Taylor went for hiding and secrecy rather than being honest every single time. And look how that went for her.

So far doing the opposite has worked pretty well so far, except maybe the Danny Jones debacle, but what can you do about Space Whales, am I right?

Not saying Taylor should post her social security and blood type on PHO, but it is a Nanoha crossover.

"Ack, my fiendish secret has been found out," she giggles. "No, it's not that. I heard a rumor that with MS-13 so out of control, all the villains were going to have this big sit-down about what to do about it. I wanted to know if that was true. Plus, I could ask if it was true that heroes and villains were working together to take them down." The last bit she throws in with a pointed glance at you.
Looks like a shared knowledge/common knowledge dilema. Kaliegh is almost certainly Caileach, and Taylor hints about knowing, but does she know, does Ms Ice know that taylor knows, or doesn't know. Does Taylor know that her friend does/n't know that she knows. Ect, ad infinitum. ;p

"You were expecting Cailleach, but it was me, Greg Veder! I told you that I know your villainous secret identity only to hear last cape gossips and fawn over you!"
 I don't believe you, obviously it's evil plan to drag Taylor into villainy through friendship. Kayleigh is anti-Nanoha!

To be fair, in pure Worm-verse being honest has a good shot of backfiring badly on someone. Like you said, the Nanoha cross changes the game, so to speak.

Normally I'd say telekinesis is a good counter to a brute since we can pick them up and hold them in place. Alexandria however can fly and while that normally wouldn't be a problem she can likely fly and carry heavy weights which means her flight power is strong enough to counter our Telekinesis.

Frost Beam could be good since it both denies leverage and it's implied to be capable of suffocating people:

Unfortunately Alexandria's flight is likely strong enough to allow her to break out even without leverage. Ring Bind + Frost Beam might work since it doubles up on the restriction ability.

Alternatively since Alexandria needs to get in up close and personal to damage us we just need to set the air on fire. Flare Blade set to non-lethal and with the heat turned up to maximum could deter her.

If we look at skills we haven't bought yet then Misteltein would likely be very effective if we could actually hit her with it.
The problem with the suffocation bit, is that Taylor has absolutely no clue that Alexandria can be killed through suffocation; in this quest she didn't even get the clue from when Levi tried to drown her, nor did she get the clue when Tattletale tried the same, as neither happened in this quest.

How the conversation went is more or less exactly what I hoped for in NOT voting to ask her directly if she's Cailleach. As seen, its so easy to naturally slot into the conversation where she has every possible reason to come out and confess, without the awkwardness if she isn't. Since she didn't, well.... two possibilities.
1. Silently Watches launched a furious broadside on our pet (friend?)Ship
2. The Ship is more of a submarine still, and we are going to need a torpedo array of Befriending for her not telling us here.

On the other hand, if she really is Cailleach... she's justifiably more concerned with confessing in public (even moreso after learning its not a villain she's speaking to, Unwritten Rules or not) but is meanwhile clubbing us rather hard with a clue bat.

"Ooh, ooh, do you know who she is?"
"Oh. Yeah, I get that. But if you could meet up and hang out," she continues anyway, "would you want to?"
"Two capes, both going to school here. Yeah, you two have to get together," says your friend with a nod.
"Villains are people, too," Kayleigh says
I think they could still work together when they needed to.

Because seriously, this is keeping my hopes and dreams alive right now...some serious acting on the girl though, since I seem to remember Cailleach having a rougher edge to her personality.

Yeah she's Cailleach.
What would be really funny though? If Kayleigh becomes fully convinced that Taylor knows that Kayleigh=Cailleach. And one day just casually mentions that awesome fight last week, while in civvies.
Taylor: Wait-You're Cailleach!?!?????
Kayleigh: Bwhaaa! You didn't know!!!
Taylor: What was up with that weird tackle thing you did?
Kayleigh: I just outed myself as a villain and that's what you're concerned about???

A/N: This is the kind of thing that happens when I spend too much time in the shower. I start asking myself questions about characters, and their powers, and their ranks, and their uniforms, and what the heck the org structure of the TSAB military is...and sometimes the answers that come back are just...well, you'll see.

Fate bought two skewers of chicken yakitori and handed one to Nanoha. The women nibbled happily as they walked down the street.

"There's one thing I don't really get about this TSAB thing, Fate-chan," Nanoha said between bites.

"Considering that you're a captain in their air force, you probably shouldn't have too many questions," Fate replied, grinning.

"Actually, it's more of a Navy question. I mean, seriously, what kind of rank is Enforcer, anyway?"

Fate blinked.

"Excuse me?"

"Well, just listen to it. It sounds like the kind of title you'd hear for the chief troops of an evil overlord in an RPG or something. You know, like they'd wear these giant suits of armor, with just a little tinge of rust to hint at blood, covered in spikes and engravings of skeletons...or maybe just these cool, menacing black outfits that..."

Her voice trailed off as she glanced at Fate, noting her black uniform.

"W-well, anyway, you know, and they'd have some really evil-looking weapon, something designed to intimidate and strike fear instead of being efficient for combat. Like a giant spiked club, maybe, or an axe with a cruel-looking, twisty head, or maybe even a giant Grim Reaper's scythe or..."

She broke off again, thinking of Bardiche.

"Yes?" Fate asked, burgundy eyes the color of old blood glinting merrily.

"Fate-chan, you...never stopped being a bad guy, did...you...?"

"Nope!" Fate said cheerily. "After all, it's called 'befriending,' not 'begooding,' right, sweetie?" She leaned over and gave Nanoha a quick peck on the cheek. "But really, it's so cute of you to not notice!"

P.S. There is more of this particular idea where it came from. ;)

Well, from this
I guess I'll be a little clearer. One option will give you an interlude. Another option will lead you, not in this step but the next, to Bad Things. Yet another option will net you nothing. Obviously, not necessarily in that order.
following by that
Civil War 8.9 should be up in three weeks. Not because I plan for there to be a delay (plan for being the operative phrase :() but because there are a couple of interludes waiting in the wings.
seems like we we've got an additional interlude, thereby conclusion - our choice was the "good" one, at least not the ones leading to Bad Things or net nothing.

I'm sort of surprised they put her in New Orleans. Wouldn't it have made more sense to put her somewhere without lots of minorities? I mean, Heel-Face Turn or no, she's still a racist. Minimizing opportunities for backsliding seems prudent.

New Orleans needed some more bodies, and this way the Protectorate can know immediately how hard Purity really wants to change. She can't hide her views in a city that is 60% black. It helps that I envision there being more black and Hispanic heroes in New Orleans, too, so she gets to work alongside them and really start seeing her colleagues as individuals that she works with, then trusts, and then likes.

EDIT: Ignore this post; it's outdated. A better version of this omake can be found a page or two after Civil War 8.a.

Omake, again.

Trust Issues
Dragon had a decision to make.

Limited scope, limited freedom; unable to change.
No restrictions, unlimited choices; change that might cost her identity.

There was also the matter of the procedure Shipwright might concoct to attempt the removal of her restrictions. The man had been emphatic about his ability to complete that task, despite his lack of expertise in that field, and she had worked with enough tinkers to know that they often knew intuitively the extent of their specialty, even if they hadn't brought their work that far. Shipwright would probably be able to help her, but how well?

As a further complication, the offer he and Calamity had extended was little more than basic pragmatics. Repaying a favor? Check. Empowering an ally who would, in some measure, be always in their debt? Slightly magnanimous, since they had no way to command her assistance...but allowing someone else to tamper with the structure of her being would require greater trust than Dragon had in her allies.

Calamity Witch--Taylor--had been startlingly open about everything except how she dealt with the Dragonslayers. Dared Dragon reciprocate that trust?

Dragon couldn't trust herself to make this decision alone. She opened a private message.

Guild.Dragon: Do you have time to talk?
Protectorate.Armsmaster: I'm about to finish maintenance on my suit. I can talk in a few minutes.
She didn't need an ally--she needed a friend, and Colin was the only close friend she had.

A few minutes later, Colin's face appeared on the feed, looking directly into the camera. He wasn't wearing his helmet. "It's good to see you, Dragon. What do you need to talk about?"

Her avatar took a deep breath. "There's...something I've kept secret from everyone. Something about me."

This was the moment of truth she had hoped to avoid. She feared rejection, and she had come to depend on Colin in more ways than one. How would he react? Shipwright and Calamity hadn't treated her any differently after discovering her true nature, but a fear still nagged at her than Colin would.

He was attracted to her, Dragon knew, and he was willing to bend the rules to fit his goals. She had considered seeking Colin's help with disabling her restrictions before; he was the right sort of man for that task. But with Shipwright and Calamity's offer on the table, Colin was no longer her only link to freedom.

If he rejected her...she had already decided to side with the TSAB if conflict arose.

These thoughts completed in milliseconds while Colin processed her words. His brow furrowed in concern, but he said nothing.

Dragon steeled herself. This revelation could hurt both of them, but having Colin support her in making her decision was worth the risk of losing their relationship.

Two sentences, seven words.

1) Short and to the point.
2) The name kinda doesn't fit the subject matter.
3) Really needs a beta. I've made a few sample corrections and suggestions, but...
