Magical Girl Escalation Taylor (Worm/Nanoha)

Okay, I have the character sheet mostly finished. Incidentally, I really should have done some research before picking raccoon as an option. I wanted to keep the war form in the same taxonomic family as the pet form, but in this case, that didn't happen. I think you'll like it, though.

Anyway, your Guardian Beast is…

…an adult female raccoon of the melee DPS class. You guys take all the fun out of life, you know that?

We're SV, figuring things out is kind of the point. :p

So, for those of us who aren't familiar with RPG or Nanoha terminology, what, exactly, does melee DPS mean? Also, eagerly awaiting her personality and various details, and where is this list I keep hearing about?

DPS = Damage per second.
I've general seen it used as a descriptor when the individual can put out a large amount of damage on one or more targets but generally is less able to resist similar amounts of damage.

In comparison a 'Tank' is an individual or vehicle that can resist a large amount of damage but is somewhat less capable of harming the enemy than the DPS.

It's an RPG term for a character that is fast and hard-hitting, though not super-tough. Get in, smash the enemies face in, and get out before they can hit back is the preferred fighting tactic.

The list is this post, though I did change the class order when I was creating the skill sets.
(Tank, DPS, Support, Ranged, Infiltrator, and Scientist if you were wondering. Ranked in order of squishiness.)

Well, that's cool! I'm not sure if we got the best possible result, but a close ranger fighter for our "we'll just be way over here up in the sky shooting at you please" fighter sounds just fine to me. We'll just have to make sure to be there for her in case she gets hit, seeing as she's a bit of a glass canon. That won't be too hard considering we're part of a team, though.

Apparently not that squishy though...

DPS is second toughest character. That's nice.

So, basically Strike-arts (magic enchanted melee), one mid range spell at least and basic cc and shield?
Strike Arts, yes, most definitely. No mid-range, no shield, but speed galore and one of the two classes that possess teleportation. Tougher at baseline than any class other than the Tank (including tougher than you) and with a contact-applied debuff to make things fun.

For those on the Worm side of things, that basically means fighting like Leviathan. Too fast to hit, too tough to hurt when you DO hit and then blows away everything with afterimages.

Now is that debuff a will-temporarily-fuck-up-your-power-to-some-degree trump ability or more of a you're-now-20%-more-likely-to-trip-and-land-on-your-face-you-clumsy-fuck kind of masterish ability?
Neither. It's more of a You-think-you're-safe-because-you're-a-Brute?-Ha-ha-fuck-you debuff.

Between your GB's abilities and the side-effects of Flare you haven't seen on-screen yet, you're actually really, really dangerous.

So basically, high Mover/Striker, and mid Brute/Changer without Manton limit by PRT terminology?

Ooh, mysterious Flare side effects? Now I'm curious.

Also, who's with me on acting like the racoon's just another human/maybe monstrous cape that has nothing to do with our power? It'll make us look more reasonably powerful and like less of a huge target, and artificially fill out our cape roster a bit more. The GB has an animal form, human form, and battle form, correct? I wonder if we should have the racoon patrol in human form as well and shift when they start fighting. It depends upon how cautious we want to be and how fast the transformation is.
