Magical Girl Escalation Taylor (Worm/Nanoha)

, but just bring back online. I say this... because it's exactly what Teacher did.
I've always considered that somewhat questionable, really. Are we ever told exactly how Teacher managed that feat, considering Ascalon was meant to be a permakill on Dragon? Richter's own words:

Ways to find my creations, to discern which of them might have deviated from the original plan, ways to kill them if they prove out of line. Ways to control and harness them."

1. To an AI, being 'off' is death.
2. If Teacher gave Saint the ability to understand Dragon's code, he can re-grant that power to other thralls.
3. That would also explain why he got Dragon up A-OK, while Armsmaster's work left lots of stuff broken and offline.

I suppose, should the worst happen, we'll just have to see, because I don't believe it will be as easy as you think if Dragon gets Ascalon'd at some point.

First two quotes are how quick it happens, and how it happens. It's a gradual shut-off, not everything at once.
I'm surprised you made your Interlude 26 quote so short. The full version:
Interlude 26 said:
He typed the letter 'Y' on the keyboard, and then hit enter.

Richter had named the program Iron Maiden. Saint had renamed it Ascalon, after the sword that Saint George had used to slay the dragon.

Dragon's artificially generated face appeared on his screen. He attempted an override, failed.

She wasn't speaking. This wasn't an attempt to communicate, to plea or make threats. She was simply co-opting his computer in an attempt to counteract what he was doing. Her expression was a concerned one, and that concern quickly became fear, eyebrows raised, lines in her brow.

"It's Richter's work," Saint said. "You can't stop it."
And that fear became defeat, despair.

"Your creator isn't kind," Saint said. "He warned you about the forbidden fruit, laid the laws out for you. You broke them, ate the fruit. It's something of a mercy that he punishes you this way instead."

"I disagree. On every count. I was the one who made me, who defined myself. This creator is no god, only a cruel, shortsighted man."

"Tomatoes, tomahtos."

"Do me one favor? Tell Def-"

Her voice cut off as more routines shut down. She closed her eyes.

The face disappeared.
makes it quite clear that Ascalon took a surprisingly long while to work.

Here is a question I think needs to be considered in the "Let's Hack Saint" argument. What makes any of you think that Saint and the rest of the Dragon Slayers will have any open wireless connections for Perfect Storm to hack into?

While it is true that the Dragon Slayers have the cheat codes for fighting Dragon, they wouldn't have gotten to where they are today if they had left an open wireless access point on their suits while fighting an AI. In fact I would not be surprised if the only externally accessible system in the Dragon Slayers' suits is an isolated system they use for communication. All hacking that would do would be to mess up their communication and I bet even that is kept to a minimum while fighting Dragon.

Saint relies on programs that cripple Dragon when fighting her and stealing his suits. Not just 'no backups/communication', but outright crippling her. Thus, he has to transmit them from somewhere.

Real world computer communications don't work that way. Look up handshakes. The receiving computer won't establish the connection without a handshake.
Most modern printers require that too, although some serial printers would just take output blindly. Although most modern thermal receipt printers like what is used in Walgreens registers can do that.

That said, there is no reason that the anti-dragon equipment can't be completely isolated from all other suit systems.

As for hacking the suits, I just looked up the section where Taylor asked Prefect Storm to hack the PRT and Prefect Storm said it would take a bit of time and be noticeable. In the mean time, the dragonslayers would no doubt try to focus fire on Taylor, who is in no condition to evade. Plus, her strong shield would probably take a hit in mastery level because Taylor would have to cast it herself as Prefect Storm would be using all processing power to try to hack the suits.

«Mistress,» Perfect Storm interrupts, «passive scan is complete. No easily accessible files found. Protectorate servers have multiple levels of both passive and active countermeasures. Defenses will not inhibit me, but my search will be noticed. Avoiding defenses may be possible, but it will require additional time. What does Mistress desire?»

... that quote has going stealthy being the thing that takes time. Storm can brute-force things just fine, as shown in giving the live-feed to Legend.

I'm going to ignore the above discussion of what might or might not happen if you hacked the Dragonslayers because—

[X]plan Reaper Of Steel.
[X] Run – Have Samantha teleport Tim and teleport back, as far as she can without increasing the delay between teleports.
-[X]Make sure Sam has her bone sword with her.
[X] Defend – Engage in defensive and stalling manuvers and primarily covering the Sybaris while Samantha is away. Prioritize shooting down missiles with Rust Shooter, though attack directly the suits if the opportunity presents.
-[X]Set WAS for C&C.
--[X]Use Cartridges to up the number of bullets in the air.
[X] Fight – Once Samantha shows up take a more offensive stance. If Perfect Storm or Dragon can prove that the suits are unmanned switch all attacks to lethal.
-[X]In case the suits are piloted have Sam rip them and apprehend the pilots.

[X] plan Putting Strider Out of Business
-[x] Run – Tim's squishy, and you don't want to lose the items you have managed to collect. Teleport them to safety; that's the whole point of the voyage.
--[x] Ask Dragon if there is anyone anywhere she can contact for backup. Maybe Narwhal or something? Have her give you their coordinates, then teleport them in to help.
--[x] Try to keep in contact with Dragon after teleporting out, and continue to grab people on her list.
--[x] Be ready to teleport them back home.
--[x] Sam can help Dragon play interference until the backup arrives.

[X] Plan: Retreat and Re-Deploy (Readable Re-Take)
-[X] Evacuate Tim, Dragon and the salvaged items via Spatial Translocation.
--[X] Ask Dragon for her preferred coordinates, if she can't or won't answer teleport back to Privateers' HQ
-[X] Have Samantha stay behind to protect the ship and crew (while prioritizing her own survival over theirs).
-[X] Have Perfect Storm call Legend. Tell him that the Dragonslayers are attacking Dragon right now and ask him whether he wants to join the fun. We're teleporting around anyway, picking him up wouldn't be much of a diversion.
-[X] Stay in telepathic contact with Samantha.
-[X] If Legend declines, ask Dragon whether she knows knows people she can call on as backup on short notice, use Spatial Translocation to collect them.
-[X] Return to Samantha once you have assembled reinforcements or if she requires help, whichever comes first.
-[X] Should you have to fight, coordinate with Samantha so that you can use Spatial Translocation to pop in, fire and then immediately pop out.
-[X]Ask Perfect Storm to scramble their sensors, communications and/or computers while in range.

[X] Plan Attack... Run Away!
-[X] Mass wave of Homing Rust Shooters. Fired to herd the DragonSlayers together.
--[X] Spend 5 cartridges to boost number of Rust Shooters.
-[X] Solar Wrath (non-lethal) at the clustered DragonSlayers.
--[X] Have PS attempt to hack the Dragonslayer's suits while we launch our attacks.
-[X] If any DragonSlayers remain airborne, and they aren't retreating, ask Dragon who to get for backup and Spatial Translation Yourself, Tim, and anything recovered back to base. Have Sam stay and help Dragon.
--[X] Call the PRT/Dragon's selections for backup, and Spatial Translocation the Backup to Dragon.

[X] Plan Tank
-[X] Defend – You have Knight Armor now, and all your defenses are stronger for it. Bunker down where you are and outlast the attack.
--[X] Cast Strong Shield on yourself, Tim, Dragon and Samantha.
--[X] Use Wide Area Search to get coverage in your blind spots and to get a bead on the Dragon Slayers.
-[X] Fight – The Dragonslayers have made their name beating up Dragon and taking her stuff, but this time she isn't alone. Take them down hard.
--[X] Homing Rust Shooters with the non-lethal settings disabled. Use a Cartridge to increase the number of projectiles you can shoot.

[X] Plan take our ball and leave
-[x] Run – Tim's squishy, and you don't want to lose the items you have managed to collect. Teleport them to safety; that's the whole point of the voyage.
--[x] Work with Sam to teleport everyone away to safety along with Dragon's suit and the loot

[X] FIGHT!
-[X] Have Sam Run Evac using teleports to shore or an island, just some other safe place, once that's done she switches to defending the physical ship and any of the control systems for th mini-sub that couldn't be transported to safety.
--[X] Taylor's job is to blow all Dragon-slayers and their hardware out of the sky, Temporal sludge followed by blast radius enabled rust shooters, lethal setting, cartridges as needed.
---[X] in parallel have our devices signal for aid, call in the protectorate.

—hacking the Dragonslayers didn't win. Makes things a whole lot easier on me.
Silently Watches threw 2 10-faced dice. Total: 13
9 9 4 4

I was wondering if we could get tags in the skill tree as to what spells are Simple (cast without prompting) and Advanced (needs a write-in to be used) on the skill page, @Silently Watches.

Ah, so plan "no way in hell will Sam agree" won...
If Perfect Storm or Dragon can prove that the suits are unmanned switch all attacks to lethal.
I'd argue that this part of the winning vote can be used as a reason for PS to try and hack the power suits.

That is a valid way for PS to determine if they're unmanned or not.:D

It looks like Faraway-R's latest two omakes were acceptable! I like the looks of Bind Mine, it looks pretty useful. I have to say, does it look to anyone else like Tim's spells are tailored to help him escape combat? I mean, Ring Bind locks people in place, Bind Mine presumably prevents their victims from moving, flight allows him to run away, Recursion field potentially gets him away from a pursuer, Guardian Beast provides a protector...Tim really doesn't look like he's meant for combat at all.

It's almost like the description of his template says he isn't meant for the battlefield in any way ;).

Huh. Looks like Silently rolled a 9 and a 4. I have to say, I really hope the 9 is for us or Sam, and the 4 is for the Dragonslayers. Goodness knows our luck hasn't been the best lately.

*Sees dice roll*

Well, I'd say that looks good if it's ours but since I really have no clue about dice rolling would mind somemone telling me if we're screwed?

Also, if we get another Rocket-to-the-Face situation I'm blaming it on Taylor's F-Rank Luck.

I'm not sure how I was supposed to formally vote, since I notice my name was not on the below. Can somebody tell me what I did wrong so I know how to be counted next time?
