Magical Girl Escalation Taylor (Worm/Nanoha)

Do you think Kayleigh should meet Lanster to learn from her? Kay is already an accompished marksman, but Teana is the magic pistoleer who started out with similar linker core limits. I don't remember where I read this, but I seem to recall that she built her original Anchor Gun device herself because they didn't have anything that suited her talents at the academy.

Typos I still had in quotes:
Of course Kayleigh would want to hang out at a gun range.
you know who finding me and giving me a kick in the pants, I don't know if I works have gone out to help on my own."
would
After fitting some goggles over your glasses
which Cassiel admitted she told Laura when you questioned her about it during those two days in Master/Stranger quarantine.
Not a typo, but I had a brief amusing thought about them just chatting about this:
PRT guy: OK, they think one of them is the Simurgh. This is fine. "You're free to go"

Vote:
[X] (Missy) Scarlet Grimoire
[X] (Kayleigh) Lady Sureshot
[X] (Device) Aimbot

No seriously, why the fuck would you do this to her? It's ridiculously out of character for her to pick those names, which means that we're voting for Taylor to pick the names for her, which means you're literally giving her excuses to dislike Taylor for no good reasons besides your own shits and giggles.
You mean like the thread voted for Missy to have a full cyborg arm and Taylor forced her to do that? Oh wait. I trust Silently Watches to have votes worked in and to just veto anything that doesn't work.

In fact, they outright said as much:
With the write-in team names, keep in mind that their debut is almost certainly going to be hunting down the Fallen, so something not stupid or cringe-worthy is preferred. This is one where I might jump in and veto a suggestion.
I dislike Aimbot because I think it's unfunny and unimaginative. Got nothing to do with cheating. I just look at it and go: "Am... I supposed to laugh?"
I mean, I'm of a similar opinion for both. Except Transformation Sequence feels even less like a name, even factoring in device.

Also also, @Silently Watches Watches, changing the vote midway through without making a ping post for it is...not exactly a great way to run a vote. Especially when you get stuff like this:
In short, @everyone who hasn't yet voted on it:
Silently Watches has reopened the vote on Kayleigh's device name. If the name Transformation Sequence beats the old name Aimbot and manges to get at least 50% of the votes, the name will be changed. So please, if you dislike the Aimbot or find it inappropriate for her, vote. I implore you.
i.e. It's only a call to vote on Transformation, not to vote, again, on Aimbot. Considering there's also point where mass pings don't work...

Teana is much stronger than Kayleigh, she's A-rank at minimum. And exactly because of this she's not the magic pistoleer, her magic is strong enough she doesn't need to supplement it with other tools. Her Device only looks like a gun, it's not actually a gun.

Silently mentioned Enforcers will be weirded out by Kayleigh, because the TSAB heavily restricts firearms just like any other non-magical weapons. A mage who uses her magic mostly to store her guns and make magical bullets for them is something bizarre.

Actually, Teana had a colleague who supplemented her weak magic with a gun.
Guess what happened next?
This colleague was revealed to be a terrorist, trying to tear the TSAB down with a Galean superweapon!

Let it be a lesson for you, kids.
Guns are bad.
Throw them away and stick with magic. 🧙‍♀️

Which is still usually better than SB.
I mean, there's a reason I basically only ever read story posts on SB and ignore the discussion afterwards.

It was actually fairly early on, about 6 hours later, and you can vote for Aimbot again if you want. I said as much, both in the post where I reopened that part of the vote and in the vote threadmark.
Is that from SSX? I really need to track that down.
I think I saw translated audio files on YouTube at one point or another.

I know, I'm just commenting on the fact that the only notification for the (as above) plethora of votes (edit: 51/104 votes before the change...only 4 of which have been edited for either side) which went out before the change was a mass ping, which may or may not have worked for some people, asking them to vote for Transformation. I mean, 3 people asked to have a redo? And it's just tacked on with no notification if people aren't following discussion because, for example, they've already voted (or if the device name was the only thing they cared to vote on, they're done and dusted). I mean, I don't really care which ends up winning and I probably shouldn't have even bothered posting about it, but it just rankles a bit.

6 hours and *45 votes* later.
And there have been 140 posts since. Not to mention, the requirement that a new name had to have more than 50% of the votes means it can't slip in at the last second and win by dint of it having a dozen votes for it and nothing for any competitor. People would have to go back and change their votes for it to be able to win.

It honestly was less 3 people asking for a redo and more that it seemed a fairly prevalent sentiment in the previous discussion that Aimbot wasn't a great name but no one had any better alternatives until very late on.

I mean, 51 votes before, 53 after. Needing 50% works as a way of preventing a minority getting in on it, I guess?

Fair: I mean, I won't disagree with that, but I like this even less, so...

It's been about five hours since the last vote. Seems pretty safe to call it.

My personal opinion, bandwagoning may be becoming a problem. Remember, we were this close to having Missy's Device be named Scenic View.

People have difficulty realizing that we aren't directly controlling anybody, even Taylor, but we help SW decide what decisions the characters will make. There is no forcing anybody to do anything unless we vote not for Laura to choose magic but for Taylor to hold a flare shooter to her neck until she picks up the device.

Fortunately, instead of having hard coded options picked ahead of time, SW is willing to entertain any ideas, but will veto any choice we make that s/he can't see as being in character. I still occasionally want to ask what the character wants, as my interpretation of what has gone before doesn't always match what is in the author's head.

Bandwagoning is inevitable. When we're getting twice as many votes as usual, it gets even worse. Picking out these names and setting the characters' spells has drawn a lot of lurkers into the open, meaning that our more typical sentiments have been skewed, for better or for worse.

That may be so, but it's still annoying when the winning vote only got traction by being the earliest.

Though this nearly doesn't happen during combat/tactics votes, maybe because the danger makes voters think more in-depth on what to choose. It's mainly the character and social votes that bandwagoning happens in.

A little fear of screwing things up can save a lot of hassle. If only people were as wary of screwing things up on social fronts, so they could read a few ideas before picking one.

I rather liked that one, though in my head it was a Supernatural reference, rather than being about the gun manufacturer. I would have been quite content, possibly even happy, had that one managed to garner enough support to make it into this run-off.

tl:dr: Scarlet Grimoire and Sailor Shining Shot. Changing the name of Kayleigh's Device to Transformation Sequence got more votes than the original Aimbot vote (which was in the mid-20s IIRC 23).

Vote Names PART 3

Last part. Ugh.

There was so much contention and anger and flips back and forth between three of the team names that I just don't consider the tally to be accurate of what we as a group want. As such, we're going to handle this a different way.

We're going to do ranked voting.

What this means, for anyone who's never participated in a vote like this, is that we won't use X's in the brackets. Instead your favorite choice will be marked with [1], your middle choice with [2], and your least favorite (or most hated) choice with [3].

The tally system should be able to handle this, but if not, either someone with Net Tally will need to count it up or I'll do it by hand. Which would suck, but if I have to, I have to.

So with no further ado, go ahead and rank these options:

[ ] Arcana
[ ] Judgement Guard
[ ] Night Sisters
