I'm somewhat confused.
1) This is a newborn from queen objective? So why does she associate it with escalation?

2), She agreed, thinking it would benefit the newborn to lose. it said challenge again and she then refused? Why did she take it back, and why did it ask again after she had accepted?

3) doesn't QA know the benefit of friendly spars and testing abilities to learn how they work and learn about existing flaws, without risking premature death? Why is she so against the idea?

CHALLENGE.

That's why.

The shard in the memory was the Escalation shard over the course of multiple cycles. Escalation apparently never varies its approach and Queen Administrator despises something that never learns from its mistakes. So when Bell challenges her to a duel she looks at him and just nopes out.

"Hey-yooo!" Tiona cheerfully called, her arms laden with a number of small boxes. "I bring delicious food in great quantities! Oh, and you had one of Freya's kids at the door. Cute kid, solid equipment. Said he wanted to talk to Queen Administrator, so I told him you were busy with Familia stuff and to come back later."
...what. What! Bell is now Freya's Familia. This. I. What?!?

The butterflies truly flap their wings. What's worse is he has Lung's previous shard. As in can solo Leviathan shard...yikes.

1) Probably the insistence on challenge.

2) repeated challenge changed her mind

3) there's friendly spar that you learn from, and then there obsessive insistence on fighting even self-destructive fights. QA fears that Bell will start the second one if give positive feedback.

Edit: not Bell, the maybe-baby-shard that seem connected to Bell

but this would be a newborn. For it the tactic would still be relatively new and it wouldn't have had a chance to do the same pattern over and over ... right?
also aren't newborns supposed to try to find conflict as much as possible? And he mentioned a friendly spar which I think should imply no killing. So I am still a little confused.

the shard might think this, but non-QA shares don't typically have that much influence on their hosts, and Bellsaidnit Would be a friendly spar. Or am I (repeatedly?) missing something obvious?

...I dunno, maybe it's just that I'm used to parsing things more slowly and thoroughly... but I have no clue how you guys are posting about "Bell's Baby shard" when the formatting and stuff makes it obvious it's a flashback explaining why QA's response was to shut the door in Bell's face.

Like I said its over multiple cycles. Escalation does its challenge as a Newborn and continues to do it afterwords every Cycle it and QA Administrator encounter each other. The memory isn't just one scene, its a snapshot of multiple scenes.

To be fair, I did forget to put the indent in for the first few minutes. But yeah, it's a flashback.

You're not alone in thinking this.

Is an indent supposed to be a standard flashback indicator? It took me until after the shardspeak was done to figure out that it happened in the past.

Humans... I don't want to know?
Just look at Lili.

:V

To be honest, I understood that it's a flashback from context, then looked for and noticed the formatting.

ok thanks for clarifying. Why does she instantly jump to escalation from someone asking for a friendly spar though? Especially since this is the first time bell asked and he was being polite.

This isn't a fight to the death that would prematurely end one of their hosts Lives and ability to collect new data. This is a way to look for strengths and weaknesses in your and an opponent's skills in a less risky scenario. Sorry if I'm being repetitive, I'm just confused. Also, What does she think training with Ais or Tiona is?

Ais and Tiona are experienced seniors. Bell is just... eager. And he's got that big protag energy. It'd be a trigger.
