Anyone else think that with all the magic they give off as they talk, and the fact they aren't hiding their nature, will cause the Xenos seeking them to show up soon?
Er. I think that's because you — I think accidentally, based on what you've said since — started off by hitting this story for something from canon Danmachi. And are having this conversation in this thread instead of in the Danmachi discussion thread, for that matter. But mostly that first one:
Is it wrong to try to pick up girls in the Dungeon? is canon, and a question presumably asking if actions are justifiable. It's not wrong to make Friends in the Dungeon is this story, and a forceful (and potentially petulant) statement insisting that actions are justified.
Whoops.
Yeah, accident, sorry.
That said pretty much everyone has been talking about what happens in Danmachi, so i think people have figured out my mistake.
Those were clearly pre-release and/or alpha+beta versions. <Sword Princess Version 1.0> should not have been left without Friend-unit <Felicity> for an extended period of time. Therefore, she logically was not.
Additional measures would be necessary. Friend unit <Felicity> calculated the distance and local conditions between its local extension and <Aiz Wallenstein>, adjusted the hindquarters of its local extension until an adequately stable launching pad was established, and launched itself toward <Aiz Wallestein>'s shoulder.
Insufficient modeling of physical interactions between the energy-containing crystalline structures beneath <Felicity>'s local extension resulted in an unexpected shifting of the launching pad, however, leading to the local extension falling unexpectedly to the floor. Unplanned impact of <Felicity>'s rear legs against the raised structure below further resulted in significant unexpected orientation changes and the local extension's back impacting against the floor instead of a more stable quadrupedal landing stance.
<Aiz Wallenstein> and nearby members of the <Loki Familia> appeared both amused and concerned, the latter emotion degrading as <Felicity> quickly righted the local extension and returned it to an upright and neutral stance. <Felicity> was happy that it had succeeded in returning <Aiz Wallenstein> to a healthier emotional state, but filed the action combination as requiring further refinement.

You forgot the part where <Felicity> gets back up, sits down and starts licking her paw as if that was completely intentional, before stalking off in what is definitely not an embarrassed huff after carefully waiting long enough to prove that absolutely nothing important just happened.

I don't know why but your profile pic suddenly felt very relevant while reading this post. It was way to easy to picture a laughing banana talking to me right there.
According to the lengthy footnotes in the copy of Divine Comedy I've read long time ago, Florence had a reputation for being gay, to the point where the word "florentine" was used as an euphemism for "male homosexual".
Yeah, I'm pretty sure "bigoted" is the right word.
A bit of digging seems to indicate that was used that way by those outside of Italy, specifically Germany, but nothing about it having any currency in Italy, and certainly not in the 14th century. Which makes sense, since that slang would rapidly grow confusing in any situation where actual Florentines were involved. I can't imagine that it was used that way in Tuscany, much less in the city itself. And Dante wrote in the Tuscan dialect.
Also, there's at least circumstantial evidence elsewhere in his work that he was fairly progressive on that topic. But that's a discussion for a different thread.
In other news, have a sneak peek in the form of next chapter's beginning! If the formatting is an eyesore, then I'm willing to change it for the actual thing.
Friend unit <Sympathizer Falna-Friend Version 16.1c (Final) || Felicity> continued consuming energy-containing crystalline structures provided by allies of <Primary Priority || Sword Princess (est. Version 1.0) || Aiz Wallenstein>. Previously shared information from Friend unit <Guest-self Panther Guardian Version 34.7d || Lady Sable> indicated that abundances of such supplies were not easily available after creation. Long-term modeling therefore indicated that improved personal combat viability would result in a net positive emotional impact despite minor short-term emotional disturbances experienced by <Aiz Wallenstein>.
Friend unit <Felicity> stopped chewing as the emotional status of <Aiz Wallenstein> began degrading at a significantly higher rate than could be compensated for by the positive impact of <Falna Supplementary Program || Emotional Support Organism>. Likely cause(s): perceived neglect, jealousy, insufficient confidence in Friend unit <Felicity>'s priorities. Friend unit <Felicity> therefore rolled its local extension to an upright quadrupedal orientation and blinked at <Aiz Wallenstein>.
Rate of emotional deterioration experienced a moderate decrease in magnitude, but did not halt. Friend unit <Felicity> unhappily logged the lack of success for future analysis; such actions had previously been satisfactorily successful. Nearby members of <Primary-Allied Faction: Loki Familia> may be responsible for the decrease in effectiveness despite their status as alleged allies to <Aiz Wallenstein>. This hypothesis was flagged for future analysis and possible action.
Insufficient modeling of flying crystal shrapnel resulted in minimal damage to those behind Friend unit <Felicity>, but the overall environmental emotional impact remained within estimated limits both before and after the commencement of post-landing nuzzling.
More importantly, both <Aiz Wallenstein> and nearby members of the <Loki Familia> appeared delighted by Friend unit <Felicity>'s actions. Friend unit <Felicity> was happy that it had succeeded returning <Aiz Wallenstein> to a healthier emotional state, and the action combination was logged for future reuse.

...So, looking at those version numbers, either Friends are constantly self-upgrading, or Dreamer's one of those programmers that can't help but make minor alterations constantly. Also, kitty doing kitty things. I approve.
I can't recall what right now, but there is media somewhere about a pet doing that.
Apparently pets figure that you somehow gain in carrying capacity as they age.
Much like humans and the environment for that matter.

This is why dogs are better: they're nice, simple, and Newtonian. A puppy that's allowed to be a lapdog will remain a lapdog unless acted upon by an outside force.
Delayed reaction... I now notice that this version number doesn't include the 'final' bit that Aiz's friend has. Interesting. I wonder if she is still making changes, planning to do so later, or just not outright rejecting the idea.
I managed to keep my shit together until the very end when it described 'a reliable technique to load Felis catus in different geometries' as being '1. Bring an empty box. 2. Wait.'
Next update is coming along; a few bits were giving me trouble, but I've finished most of them. (EDIT: I've got a big amino acid exam tomorrow, though, so definitely not updating today or tomorrow)
At any rate, this came up in the Calibration thread (and thus, the post being replied to will have Calibration spoilers if you follow the arrow "see post being replied to" button).
Yeah, QA in the other fork was uncharacteristically pushy on that topic even with the far more favourable circumstances. She'd had a very carefree stance towards Taylor's behaviour, treating almost everything as either a good and appropriate development for a Newborn or just not her concern. There was also a fundamental shift of underlying circumstances, too; in It's Not Wrong, the established circumstances for swapping back were subverted only gradually and with QA aware, the whole purpose of the Cycles and effectively the whole meaning of life and everything as far as QA was concerned had been resolved, and :MOTHER: was established to not actually be an active and omnipresent guiding watcher, and Taylor as Dreamer was showing herself to be faring quite nicely indeed with a proven record of handling issues in addition to benefiting from Hestia... yet despite all of that, QA just was just completely unmoved by Dreamer's protests and adamant that she knew what was best for her where the memory malware was concerned.
Despite my disagreement with the "uncharacteristic" bit, that assessment in of itself indicates that I didn't do a good enough job of showing QA's motivations. I tried to prune it down to avoid the story getting clogged up, but I might've overcompensated there.
Anyway, QA had multiple reasons for being a bit pushy with Taylor. First and foremost, QA wanted to be able to keep relaxing with Hestia, friends, and Friends, which she couldn't really do if she felt like essential tasks were being neglected. So, she needed to ensure that Dreamer could reach a state where essential tasks would be completed without QA. QA is arguably still being irresponsible, but lalalalala she can't hear you~
Second, finding the answer to life doesn't matter much if QA's colony can't guard it and ensure supremacy. She doesn't want a Relative to barge in after all that work.
Third, QA doesn't trust her siblings to behave without :MOTHER: around to keep them in line. If Dreamer could break a defensive lockdown on this particular dimension—even if she was using QA's clearly superior systems to do it—what's there to stop any rogue Siblings from doing the same?
(Three-point-five is... spoilers, but hinted at, so we'll skip it for this summary.)
Fourth, Taylor still made use of QA's shardware. Taylor's malware was willfully damaging QA's own systems. It's comparable to learning that someone was using your skin as a test-bed for potentially carcinogenic fungal infections.
Fifth, QA is proud of Dreamer, but largely considers the achievement to have been suppressed by overzealous colony safety policies rather than Dreamer, say, being better than QA.
There are other reasons, but I'm typing this from a phone, so.
I also think it's worth noting that Taylor isn't abusing malware as much in Calibration than in INW (see: rose-tinted nostalgia glasses + "she'll fite you if you call it regression"), yet the hardware hijack still occurred.
TL;DR: QA is used to being the token responsible sibling.

To be honest, Im not really seeing that in the stories so far as a reader.
In this story, she's adapting fairly well to being a shard while also getting convinced to ease off of the lotus drugs. Granted, she's coping with her trauma by living in the last mindstate in which she was actually happy and artificially distanced the emotional context of her trauma in the process, but she's doing it at least partially because she's decided that she wants a do-over so she can grow up better adjusted than she did originally rather than actually face her issues. Which is actually a viable form of therapy when you have the tools she has access to in INW.
In Callibrations, she kept drugging herself until Symbie wrested control away from her, replaced her drugs with placebos, and booted her into a proxy body. One that she also drugged before inhabiting. Its worth noting that before doing so, she and symbie fabricated a background that was broadly accurate to Taylor and QA's situation so they are likely to get professional therapy personally tailored to their needs, but at the moment she's still voluntarily sabotaging her own recovery to avoid dealing with the pain.
I will say that both stories are not in the same place as far as the timeline goes and INW has vastly more written for it so Taylor also has had more "time" to recover in it, but as things currently stand, I have to say that INW Taylor seems to be vastly more psychologically healthy (if unconventionally) than her Callibrations counterpart.
TL;DR, INW Taylor acts while Callibrations Taylor reacts when it comes to their mental health.
I'm not seeing it either, but Calibration hasn't been going for long enough to see anything, IMO. Was it two days or so? Meanwhile, in INW it has been a couple of weeks, IIRC.

Other way around, although Calibration's start did have an easily-overlooked timeskip. INW has been a very stressful and very eventful couple of weeks for Hestia.

I'd appreciate it if you [Ispoiler][/ispoiler] at least some of this bit, though. I know several readers started with Calibration before reading INW, and vise-versa.
That actually makes me pretty happy for POV reasons! Taylor is the best at rationalizations good decision-making.
I admit that coping wasn't even remotely the best word choice, and it's somewhat comparing apples and oranges. INW-Taylor's methods do appear to be viable for her recovery, yet she also has more to recover from - Calibration-Taylor wandered off and got lost, whereas INW-Taylor fled her old life after Danny was mind-wiped and dimensionally displaced. That hurt enough for INW-Taylor to abuse malware much more harshly and compensate with patchwork shardware; meanwhile, Calibration-Taylor didn't abuse it so badly, but also didn't feel the need to be functional (See: Zombie Catalyst) due to friends and/or replacement family.
