So... Can we assume that the Worm setting will, at some point, off-screen, become a "now dungeons are appearing everywhere" crossover as the shards stick down dungeons for their hosts to conflict at?

Aside from Dreamer not having reverse engineered the dungeon yet, there is still the problem of how the shards will react if Taylor revealed the solution to them and made the cycle pointless.

Although they might do it for fun now, they can keep their hosts alive inside of them indefinitely anyway now so they wouldn't care for the risk overly much, now that I think of it, without having a peprepared plan of what she want the shards to do after revealing the solution was found, than letting the shards decide themselves might be a bad idea, although I am imagining Broadcast is going to scream even louder and waste even more energy with the increased resources regardless of what Dreamer did.

In this, there actually aren't any real shard-rules against falsified data. QA has been the victim of such (mostly from Queen Shaper) on numerous occasions.
Poor QA, even her most friendish peer is kind of a dick to her.

Well, at least now she has a chance to do things properly. Things will be organized and efficient and they better like it.

On the other hand, I have some sympathy for them. To a lot of shards, "QA gets do things properly" probably sounds like the pitch for a horror movie.

You do realize that the only way to counteract the presence of an entropy argument is by increasing entropy in other arguments, yes? :p

Those arguments do not need to take place here. In fact, they can be easily done on other forums or on Facebook, where I don't have to look at them.

That's teenagers for you.

Thus we gain the first German shard.

The joke was that, in physics, in order to create greater order in an area is to create more disorder outside of that area, thus maintaining the general tendency towards increasing entropy in the universe. I didn't read the original argument, as I only leaf through the comments on this story(I don't have the focus to read through all of the comments for all of the stories I'm reading) and was just making a science joke.

The response to that joke was that "outside the area" covers the rest of the Internet, not just the other threads in this forum.

For a given value of 'decent'. Most of the time, any mistakes they make are the result of poor judgement rather than malice.
Yeah, we shouldn't act like 6-8 years of life experience is enough to act rationally, because I'm obviously not counting 10-year-olds. Especially when the brain is only half finished developing all the bits related to decision making and long term planning. Yet, there are still irresponsible adults and responsible teenagers.

Okay, back on topic. This fic doesn't have much to do with the maturation of teenagers into productive members of society. Well, a little I guess.

"The past defines our progress on the path to the future. Ignoring that would force us to start all over and invalidate ages of progress."

There was an odd weight to the air, as though this one conversation could ripple through the ages. Hestia ignored it. She already knew her guidance would affect the development of her children. That was the only consequence she needed, thank you.

"And why is that a bad thing?" Hestia challenged. "Even if you reach your goal, you'll still be here. There is always an afterward, Administrator. What you do then doesn't automatically connect to the path you took previously. It can even be a better road."
I feel this is relevant to the latest chapter...

"You're all about brutal pragmatism and precision, right?" Tiona asked, but apparently didn't expect or want a response. "Think of it like this: if kids aren't allowed to experiment and relax, they'll never learn to fight for the right to be relaxed. They'll just have this endless slog of trying to match whatever awful expectations you've placed on them. Kids can't be as productive as adults, and if you force them to be, then that's their baseline. You basically end up with adult workers who are used to being held back by the limits of children. Isn't it better to wait until they're used to slow growth and..."

Tiona hesitated, shook her head, and groaned.

"This is really hard to explain, you know that?" she complained. "Okay, so there are the limits you can change or work around, and the ones you're actually constrained by. Kids have more of the kind they can't help. You don't want them to get used to helplessness; that means they'll accept the flaws they can change."
Gotta say, Tiona made an incredible good argument against Entities and Shards here and how they seem to work.

QA needs to get back on reminding her she's not stupid.

While it might have been true in this story, don't discount the fact that shards are not humans and thus might not be like aliens in movies and actually be alien in their mindset.

Example is that under the right circumstance, Queen will be perfectly willing to eat her own newborns, shards are naturally cannibalistic, although their society got past that part of their nature (part of the cycle purpose being to avoid having to eat each other when everything else was eaten) it still showcase that they are not human, don't judge alien societies by human standards, what seem logical, makes sense or moral to them will be completely different to you.

Even if Taylor convinced them to basically adopt humanity, they still probably won't have any empathy to anything not human, shard or anything similar enough to shards (unless that specific shard is former human of course).

So, three moments in this latest update stood out to me (other than Taylor casually dropping that massive bombshell on Administrator):
Queen Administrator tilted her head questioningly, tried to parse that statement, and decided not to conceal her confusion. Unlike some people, Dreamer (probably) wouldn't mock her for requesting elaboration.
It really says a lot that Administrator had such a shitty home life, so to speak, that she felt fear for requesting elaboration. She is, in other words, also a bullying victim. That Administrator quickly decides that she trusts Taylor more than she trusts any other shard--including the ones that are the closest to being "friends" for her--is pretty heartwarming and definitely a big step in their relationship. That she trusts Taylor even when Taylor is in a position of power over her also speaks volumes (considering what that kind of dynamic means between shards).
"Er, we're right here aaaand she's gone. Guess it runs in the family."
A rather funny part, but it ties right into--
Her guest-self was unresponsive. Dreamer shifted guiltily and stepped back into her puppet (and an ongoing argument).

"They're both vulnerable," Sympathizer was insisting. "The Twilight Manor would be safer."

"And the Loki Familia is pretty good at getting through to the unresponsive," Huntress added. "Through sheer volume, if nothing else. Besides, we already had to pick up Anakitty. Better there than in some random alley, right?"

"Um—" Dreamer began.

Three sets of eyes rounded on her. Dreamer swallowed and resisted the urge to hide behind a Friend.
It's actually pretty heartwarming just how protective Ais and Tiona are of the Hestia Familia, and how fondly Tiona thinks of the Loki Familia's home.
"Please calm down; I am fine," Queen Administrator obediently informed the pseudo-host. "I am currently speaking to Dreamer."

Hestia stopped trying to squeeze the life out of Queen Administrator and looked up to establish eye contact. The pseudo-host did not appear particularly pleased by the information blackout.

"Mou, tell me that first next time!" Hestia huffed. "I was worried!"

"I apologize for the inconvenience."

"That's not—" Hestia stopped and took a deep breath. "I meant worried for you! And you know you can talk to me if there's something distressing, don't you? I hear those lies."

"I believe the current discussion is related to whether or not I can safely share certain opinions," Administrator explained evenly. "Some of the reasoning is distressing.
Firstly, it warmed my heart to see Hestia being so motherly towards Administrator. Explicitly pointing out how she was worried for Administrator is something that I hope comes back up again later--it has to be a pretty unique and brand-new (and touching) experience for Administrator to have someone genuinely worried for her. She's probably too overwhelmed to really react to it now, but I hope that she remembers this moment and reflects on it later.

Secondly, that last line in the quote must be absolutely chilling to Hestia and the others. Not just because if Administrator says that something is 'distressing', then it must be pretty damn scary--but if Administrator thinks that merely sharing an opinion to Hestia is unsafe, then they're either under observation so subtle that even an alert and watchful Ais and Tiona cannot detect, or there's some kind of magic spell/curse going on. Either way, that's got to be scary to them.

More like child abuse, all her sibling had the same treatment and technically she had more authority then most of them since her shard purpose is literally management. Even if they got all uppity they couldn't really do anything against Queen administrator without getting ganked or what I assume this story implies happens when someone steps on QA's toes. It's just they are forced to follow a system or they'll get ganked themselves, QA isn't a Vital shard but she's definitely a powerful one. I'd assume she's continent large so I doubt any Sib would be able to push her around without getting ganked but even if she couldn't Goldie and whity would take care of it for going against the system.

She did just mention "magically-compelled obedience" in the last chapter.
QA isn't a Vital shard
Um, literally the control mechanism for all of Zion's Shards that aren't directly slaved to his Avatar.

She said Escalation wasn't stupid enough to attack her directly, which mean that it is technically possible, but from the fact he didn't try I assume that it will give her permission to kill him if she wanted in retaliation (or that she could have killed him this entire time but chose not to), even if he didn't attack with the intent to kill.

From newborns getting crossbows, we can guess that it is either to fight against locals (and they are unlikely to be placed around advanced locals as it will be a threat, so at most a bunch of primitives who probably couldn't even scratch them), aliens (the irony) or each other, my guess is each other, and letting newborns fight and the winner get on top sounds like something Eden and Scion would do, I also think it was mentioned somewhere that newborns do attack each other.

She's classified as Noble not Vital, Vital are Shard necessary for Entities to not die, Noble are extremely important but not so important that they couldn't survive without them. Their basically your arms or your legs, very useful tools that you use on a daily bases which aren't easily replaceable but still unnecessary to live. Side note Nobles are noted to be less violent.

Idk where you're getting that data from (I didn't read Ward, if that's it), but in this story, Monarchy is approximately a shard PHD equivalent and Vital shards aren't a thing at all. Other shards could do QA's job if she were destroyed; they just wouldn't do it nearly as well. If a purpose is ever deemed truly unique and essential, you can expect several other shards to begin imitating/replicating it in rather short order.

From newborns getting crossbows, we can guess that
The "crossbows" are anti-meteorite mass accelerator defenses. Newborns often misuse them to attack each other, but that's not the intended purpose.

For some reason I feel that Dreamer wouldn't be calling herself Queen anytime soon even though she does deserve the title for her great accomplishment. I feel that she will probably call herself a queen given enough has pass for her to only grow as [SHARD] but also able to fully take advantage of her discovery without anyone being able to take it away from her.

Dreamer doesn't actually qualify for the title despite her accomplishment; her knowledge base (both on her Concept and in general) isn't nearly large enough. What she'll get, if announced, is the expectation that it's only a matter of time and plenty of shards willing to help push her toward that goal.

(or push her around in general)
