It's a Girl's World -- And Lilly wants Adventure

Something awesome about the tree is how massive it is, yet it's not seen from outside of the forest as far as I can tell.
Most like it breached the Forest canopy during the wolf attacks. And given the past several days fast growing trees are somewhere around the importance of suddenly glowing rocks unless and until it attacks someone.

Riemannian Geometer is probably why nobody's noticed.

You misunderstand me. I think they have noticed a super tall tree. Its just that a super tall tree in the forest that just had all the super wolves/rogue dungeon depending on what the person knows isn't going to get visitors because monsters.

And while odd the tall tree isn't actively hurting anyone and is this very very far down the list of priorities.

And I say that I think that they haven't noticed a super tall tree because to them it isn't.

Okay that makes more sense.

But can you walk me through how Riemannian Geometer or it's subpowers hide the extra tall tree? The first is about noticing/ detecting hidden ways. Slipstream is opening them up temporarily. And magnify is magnifying Lilly's movements to cover more distance.

I don't think they are, but a possible way they might be able to is if a lot of the massive size is occupying those hidden ways/paths. Kinda like the trope about a place being much larger on the inside than it appears from the outside and the explanation being some weird spatial property.

Riemannian Geometer is about space. Spatial distortion seems a small stretch even from what we've already seen.

I'm more concerned that when/if Martin takes us dungeon hunting in the forest, he/the Watch see the tree and think it's part of the dungeon or mistake it as a second dungeon (which might not even be a mistake given the connections between Lilly, the tree, and Tower) and we have to go "Actually, that tree is cool. Let's leave it be." They have shown the insight to notice Foundational Ethos/dungeons with Rapid Iterator and I don't quite know if we want that secret out yet either. Evie's modification to us listed a pro of Exalted Flesh being that it would help protect Lilly from means of detecting Foundational Ethea which makes me think it's something to hide if possible.

Alternatively, the description of Petal mentioned that she had basically merged with the rest of the forest canopy; the supermassive tree isn't super visible because it's part of a less dramatic 'hump' in the overall forest canopy; it just looks like there's a tree-covered hill there. Of course, if Petal keeps growing, eventually people are going to notice the Yggdrasil out in the woods anyway, but you'd be surprised at how much an ordinary old-growth forest can conceal.

I don't think that's likely. Lilly tried to convince Martin to go to that specific tree when hunting the Iterator's creatures and the diviners were able to tell Martin that the source of the dungeon wasn't in the same location as the tree. She didn't manage to persuade him, but I doubt that he thinks it relates to the Iterator.

Rampant Speculation for Future Events:
  • When the Watch learns that Lilly defeated an Inverted Wielder single-handedly with her "friendly" spirit sidekick taking on Aboleath, Captain Martin will try to leverage that to convince the rest of the Watch to let Lilly monopolize the Dungeon Boons (granted, he still has to pull it off before the Ministry of Lore puts things together, but that's a different problem).
  • When we open up a connection with Kaymie (once we check with the Ladder to make sure that it's safe and we go 24 hours without something trying to kill us FOR FREAKING ONCE), we may be able to set up an arrangement where we supply Kaymie with infinite Essence and she teaches us some Holistics patterns through the connection. This short-term mutually beneficial arrangement will help in establishing trust and coordination in coming up with an extraction plan.
  • The Bloom's standard visitations involve showing mortals all the aspects of outer and innate Essence to overwhelm them with majesty and awe, leaving them open to whatever commands she has to give. As Lilly's already had this revelation yesterday morning when she got ALL the expansions waking up, it's...not going to be quite as effective.
  • When we get our next sparring session with Mathew, we may need to establish 2 fighting styles: the Demigod Style, used for dungeons and fights to the death, which makes the most of our blatant wizardry, and the Soldier Style, intended to be used in public settings, which allows us to be fairly competent without blowing our cover. The Soldier Style will be greatly enhanced by simply mastering the Mace Fighter skill using [Perfect Proprioception]
  • ...Does [Tremendous Mechanist] trigger on learning how to read? I mean, once Lilly is taught the letters and the sounds they make, it becomes a system that she can intuit, right? If that's the case, we can probably knock that out in 3 hours tops.
  • So, does Martin have a way to keep the Lore Warden off our backs? I mean, Madame Silva was able to figure out something was up even though the Watch has stayed quiet; I can't help but think he's going to try some method of reassessing our ability, either through blatant use of authority or some subtler methods (although he may find that sneaking up on Lilly is a bad plan).

The decision on how we should move forward, with also possible shifts in personality, is something we will decide in the next votes.
Indeed. Even if I don't offer it as a specific option, [AC] votes are there exactly for situations like this where you want to steer Lilly's personality in certain directions.

It's a power more keenly focused on actual physical/meta-physical systems and their interactions rather than strictly abstract rule-sets, so most of {Tremendous Mechanist} doesn't apply. But funnily enough the power is simply so extreme that 'mostly doesn't apply' still means that 'more than enough does apply' and Lilly will indeed be able to pick up reading at basically the speed anyone could teach it. Give her a day or two to just ponder over stacks of books and she could intuit half the system herself even without someone explaining it.

...Lilly Silas, so bullshit her bullshit has extra bullshit on top.

...And that's before we even start thinking about Minor Relations links! Wait, can we do that?

"Technically, my Swiss Army knife with 50 attachments isn't designed to pick a lock, but I'll see what I can do."

...And that's before we even start thinking about Minor Relations links! Wait, can we do that?

...Huh, that is a thought. Evie and Petal were able to use a Minor Relations slot to directly communicate massive amounts of information as Lilly unlocked "Balm" and "Frigid", but it may also require both participants to "speak soul-language" for back-and-forth communication. Most of the functions of Relations showcase Lilly giving things to others, implying that most people don't know HOW to give things back. Also, we haven't really had the chance to practice using it with people who aren't "Team Lilly", but that may be for the best as it requires a lot more trust than Lilly's standard Essence connections ("Topping off the gas tank and increased sight" vs "Just gonna mess with your soul for a minute").

Oh by the way, I think I'm switching to 1st Person narrative from here on out. The 2nd Person experiment has been an interesting development tool, but it's been starting to weigh down on my writing for the past couple chapters. (It's a bad sign when I find myself wanting to work on Homunculus instead because I prefer that style). My apologies to anyone who found 2nd Person to their preference or who finds the transition jarring.

Alright. I'd personally prefer we stick with second person, but do what you're comfortable with.

Yep, it's your quest. You could write in first person, but make everyone speak in third person! Or rotate persons and viewpoints in a deliberately confusing manner (please don't actually do that)!

As long as it's understandable, I won't mind too much.

To say that the girl may be Andrew's ticket to greatness would be a criminal understatement, she was likely the only chance he'd ever get. He'd gone all in on this now, made deals and struck bargains that couldn't be taken back and would bury him if they were found out too early.

Wait, did Captain Martin make all his deals and call in all his favors after he left in the early evening (after officially joining "Team Lilly" and giving the infodump), or had he been setting things up for the past 2 days? If it's the latter, then he had been very close to watching Lord Waters take a rather significant investment away. If it's the former, then he'd been REALLY busy last night before the spirit attack.

I do wonder exactly when some [Gossiper] is going to put together that the Watch Captain, Madame Silva, and the local carpenter all seem to be settling accounts and liquidating assets. I mean, I suppose the carpenter has the excuse that his home got wrecked and his son died from some rampant spirit attack, but all three seem to be moving really fast to get their business done before the end of the month...

It might be worth asking {The Ladder} for a better idea of Captain Martin's dealings. Then again, I think Lilly could just openly ask him when it comes up-the Spirit fight in the camp might make keeping other secrets seem pointless. Maybe.

Yeah, it's worth wondering if the Ministry of Finance has auditors looking for suspicious activity. The Silas family may or may not be in the clear, depending on how thorough Lord Waters is being, or how much influence he has on them. They also just might not have enough wealth to be noticed in any meaningful way, especially if Yolun was in the habit of trading favors like with the Lye family.

It wouldn't surprise me if Diviners being flighty is becoming more common. Captain Martin mentioned prices were up and accuracy was down, so moving around in search of better fortunes shouldn't be too suspicious.

Captain Martin's case is the most uncertain, because we aren't certain how much pull he has outside of Harmuph. We know he has wealth, at least compared to the Silas family, but it's implied to be far from unlimited.

All 3 moving at the same time, so soon after the wolf attack, might raise eyebrows. But barring Lord Waters' influence, I think the overall level of suspension should be moderate at worst. {The Ladder} implies that Captain Martin thinks his current status is relatively mediocre, and Harmuph isn't the capital of Narisell or anything. We'll have to see.

Well, within Harmuph, it's probably enough to raise eyebrows, but to Narisel as a whole, it's probably barely a blip compared to the kerfuffle of losing 1,000 taxpayers, er, I mean "beloved citizens" from the Alpha attack. It would only raise alarms when correlated with the carpenter's daughter being marked down for the Tithe (but she doesn't turn 13 for months) and some late paperwork from the Watch Captian for the Boon allocations. The only concern I would see is if Lord Waters had any other agents in town, but otherwise I doubt he left any orders for correlating paperwork about some peasant girl.
