Green Sun, Black Shadows (CG/Exalted)

I think your main strategy is good, @Enjou. I only added Jikhs to scouting ahead with the Anuhles. But I made my own completely reworked stunt, as well as adding Second Oramus Excellency x3 to War roll. I'm not sure about voting for the stunt reward now, as Alexander might just put the reward for a seperate vote after deciding what we get for it, but I included it still. Respiring motes through stunts isn't limited to normal respiration rules, so we should get the full amount (unless I've understood that part of mechanics wrong). Anyway, do you think this will work?

[X] Plan Strategy Enjou, Stunt meianmaru
[X] General Strategy: The main group will maintain a box formation and stay wary so that ambushes will be spotted. The main melee fighters will deal with small groups of hungry ghosts and other low level threats, staying in range of the main group in case they need to retreat and fire support is needed, and being backed up by two Anuhles each to prevent them from being overwhelmed as they pick off enemies. They will rotate in this duty, always keeping one of them close to the main group in case of trouble. The main group will avoid firing any loud weapons if they can unless a large host of enemies is encountered. Leila will act as a sub-commander, and enhance the group's discipline and morale with Leading From Below. Milly and Kaguya will stay in the center of the group, the former being able to act as heavy artillery with her weather effects against any particularly deadly foes. Three groups of two Anuhles each will be on scout duty, with Jikhs helping one group scouting ahed and one group scouting behind in case anything tries following.
[X] Stunt: "Akito, Akio, take care of any enemies who stray too close to our group. Milly, Kaguya, stay in the middle of our formation and provide fire support with your powers only if truly necessary. Peer Yelena, I would ask you and your followers to also support us in the case we encounter something more threatening, but lets avoid using weapons that make too much noise for now. Peer Nadir, we will require your experience and knowledge about these lands, so please lend us your wisdom. Lady Malcal, you can have direct operational command over the rest of our human troops, while also helping me coordinate between the groups. I will personally focus more on directing our demons."

With those rapidly fired words, you watch as your mixed group of various humans and beings that most would think as horrors sprung straight from nightmares take a solid formation around you. As you confidently order Jikhs and some of the Anuhles to scout before you, you hide all your doubts that this unsettling place is stirring inside you. You will discover the truth behind this mystery, even if you have to to walk in the the boundary between the world of the living and the dead to find it.
-[X] Use a dice from your stunt pool. Second Oramus Excellency x3 (6 motes) from the internal pool for the War roll to bolster our efforts in directing this chaotic mix of individuals. Mote regeneration from the stunt (if we get a three die stunt with the help of stunt pool, complete mote regeneration from the Excellency use).

EDIT: Removed "I" from a part that completely changed the meaning of the first sentence. Damn typos...

Not a big fan of your stunt as it doesn't feel stunty enough, especially considering there is combat here to actually make for a more stunt like feel. (also, you shouldn't use paragraphs like that in a vote) I've edited my own to allow for Excellency use, pending approval by Alexander to make sure it fits.

There isn't, but maybe you want to include how Yelena commands her own followers.

Done. Noted she has direct command of her people.

Hmm, you are likely right. I'm voting for your plan now in the case it gets approved, as I will not have access to my computer for a few hours after posting this.

So is anyone else going to vote, or at least discuss the plan or suggest alternatives? Unusually dead in here, all things considered. :p

Well, it does look a lot better.

Thought doesn't giving Yelena free reign weakens our position as commander? She can be in charge, but not in command of them.
@edit: Reread. Still don't like it, but not what I thought. Maybe word it a bit differently? "Yelena will be in charge of organizing her followers in our host, as she knows them better than we do".

As written it means she has direct command of them, with her being subordinate to us. She's basically acting as the officer in charge of that particular group and they'll have their own spot in the formation, just as a normal officer would. The cult leaders will probably do the same for the cultists.

Actually, should we also include something to the plan concerning how we go about finding out what is going on? Currently it seems we will just be wandering around following our scouts, hoping that they find something.

That's pretty much what we have to do - search the area, look for clues, hope we find something, and try not to get in over our heads.

Maybe we should also include some kind of goal, like seeking out intelligent undead and interrogating them if they are weak enough that we can threaten them?

We came here looking for info and to just check on the situation in general to see how bad it is - if we find intelligent undead, we'll use that, but we're looking for any viable information source.

Has Yelena briefed us on her powers? There's a couple Mardukth charms that work much better when she conforms to people's expectations, so when she asks "Who am I?" we ought to say "Yelena, Hunter of the Dead!"

And do our damnedest to not snicker.

This is what Lelouch knows in character, unless she's told us more behind the scenes:

"I won't bore you with the details about my abilities, but I am quite proficient on the social scene. I am a qualified actress, singer and dancer. I am good at martial arts, but I prefer to avoid fighting if necessary. From my Patron I received the ability to travel easily through all types of mountainous regions, to extend the same ability to my followers and to easily spread my own fame among anyone, even my enemies." She seems to hesitate for a moment. "I can also, if needs must, grow my own size by several times. As you can guess not something I like to flaunt, even if my clothes grow with me."

"I can imagine." You neutrally reply.

"While from Great Cecelyne I was gifted with the ability to see and recognize all demons, even when dematerialized, to survive even in the harshest of environments, to briefly become made of sand to avoid being hurt and use the same sand to attack my enemies."

Mkay. Scouting it is, then. I wonder to who we might run into while we are here. I think I mentioned my gut feeling earlier about Anja possibly doing the same thing as we are doing again.

[x] Plan Enjou

I'd like to contribute to the discussion more, but I just don't have time. The current plans seem good enough anyway.

So, as my knowledge about the Creatures of Death -side of things of the Exalted is pretty poor, does anyone else from with better understanding about them have any preliminary hypotheses what could be causing this and how bad it can be?

Shadowlands come about from large amounts of deaths occurring in a given area, be they by murders or war, and the area not really being treated properly afterwards to prevent it from solidifying the connection to the Underworld. In this case, Shinjuku was a rather miserable place before and was half way there already, and the massacre and battle that occurred pushed it over the edge. Since it's now connected to the Underworld, ghosts and zombies and all that jazz will happen without anyone needing to interfere with it since that's just the nature of the Underworld. On its own, that's a problem that can be dealt with in time and effort. The real issue is that Abyssal Exalts might make use of it and even seek to expand it.

I don't understand the question. Technically speaking, none of the events we've seen are mysteries. Still, I'll give a general overview in case it's the basics you're asking about.

Shadowlands are places where the underworld and the living world intersect. They are formed when lots of people die in an area. They can act as gateways back and forth from the underworld, and their laws of physics can basically be described as 'Creation/Earth during the day, Underworld at night'. One key difference is that ghosts can become solid at night (or in complete shade) when in a shadowland. There's a ready example of a shadowland in the omake for my superhero character (though in that example, one of the ghosts mentioned was using charms which played about with solidity). Wandering in and out of a shadowland can also land you in the Underworld if you aren't careful.

In Exalted, human souls have two parts-the hun and po, that separate on death. The hun is the instincts and base emotions of the person, and upon death this can become rabid, creating 'hungry ghosts', which we're fighting now. The po is the human mind, and all other ghosts are formed from this half. They're basically beings of memory, who resisted destruction through reincarnation, and found shelter in one of the realms of death (which are basically big bubbles that formed up around the un-reincarnatable dead Primordials, who are basically half-blocking the drain.) These ghosts are not neccessarily malevolent, but they sometimes have their own agendas, and more importantly, often owe allegiance to the deathlords who definitely are malevolent. Ghosts are technically lesser than humans, but they have various natural capabilities that come from their undead/spiritual natures, and also have the advantage of having had a long time to learn stuff (though as beings of memory, they might not neccessarily have been productive with their unlives).
Ghosts have things called Fetters, which help keep them in existence and can be anything from their descendants to their grave to something less obvious. Destroying them can end them. Beating up a ghost can force it to roll to remain around, and if they succeed they reform elsewhere.

There's probably more, but my memory is kinda spotty on the topic. I've always thought Infernals were cooler than Abyssals.

[X] Plan Enjou

I would place Yelena as "lieutenant" in charge of the ranged forces, define Milly and Kaguya as "reserve", and Lelouch as captain with overall command. The Anhoules, thanks to how fast they are, can act as fast cavalry and flankers.

Question: Do we have any Essence-transmission charm? I know there is one of SwliHN that lets the exalt to donate motes to others, but I'm not sure if the anhoules can donate motes aswell, allowing the group to "recharge batteries" by beating ghosts, letting the anhoules drain them of motes, and give some motes to the team.

I would suggest an extra level of preparation, with things like salt to make a circle and stablish a defensive position in a pinch (intelligence + occult roll) and some vials of essence-infused blood to set up ambushes or distractions.

I spent half an hour coming up with a plan, so there would be actual options, read through this plan again, and noticed that they were functionally identical. *Le sigh*

Been days since I've last read the thread, I think we were discussing possible battle plans or something? either way, Enjou usually has good ideas and I can't be assed to go looking for all the options. So, here we go.
