Well no, but then it would become an open question of who tampered with it. And the cops are right here. The person who won it in the auction would be suspect #1.
Yes we could probably talk our way out, but it would be additional unnecessary trouble.
My issue is not that the car is suddenly malfunctioning. It's the scale of the malfunction. One thing going wrong could be explained like you said. Everything suddenly activating like crazy though is not nearly so plausible.
And if we want to do an image search for her I thought we would need a picture? I would have sworn this came up before. That our Cyberdevil's senses are relatively imprecise?
Yes we could probably get away with pointing our phone at her. But it would be rude and attract attention.
Also, I'm not sure we have time to do all this? The auction is running, the car is up. The time to type everything into our phone and then read the results that Clippy brings back is probably longer then the bidding will last. So it seems like something to do after. Unless that was your intention?
Signaling black rider without use of our phone is a better idea though. Using our phone right before the car malfunctions is suspicious. Just in case there is someone around watching as you say.
I wan't objecting to catching her eye. And I think you are misunderstanding what I was referring to with Subterfuge. I was referring to my vote here:
The idea being exactly what you were saying. Catching her eye and letting her know we are on to her. There isn't really any sneaking being done. And even if someone with supernatural perception was observing us, we wouldn't even be doing anything taboo. Just some unobtrusive non-verbal communication.
1)Like you said, the cops are right there. This is their facility
They have guards and presumably security cameras around the impound lot. We have been on none of them, and have not even been in the building since the car was impounded.
2)Im not sure why you think its implausible. Have you ever seen what happens when you fuck the electronics of a car?
They're the most vulnerable part of many a modern car.
Modern cars have microprocessors running all those functions I've mentioned, especially in high end luxury cars.
Some of those electronics can be from a bad batch and fail prematurely, or can exposed to environmental influences outside manufacturing specifications.
This is a car that was impounded and towed. Unknown car history.
Did it get parked next to an electrical installation having a power surge and the EM flux damaged its internals? Was there a solar storm when it was outside? Did the manufacturers simply use a bad batch of microchips? Did mice get in where it was stored and chew on cabling, shorting out internal components?
There's a reason why impound auctions are a lottery.
You have no idea what the previous state of the car was, and wont until you get it home and into an auto shop.
3)
The scale of the malfunction IS the point.
We dont want
anyone bidding on the car to miss it, or think its a relatively minor thing they can pay one or two thousand dollars at a dealership to rectify.
We want a message to get through loud and clear, and the message is :
This is not a good deal.
If you buy this car, better have another twenty or thirty thousand dollars minimum and several months of shop time for initial diagnostics and repairs. There might be more issues silently lurking. And you get no refunds.
The other buyers steer clear and the dumb teenager with no life experience buys the heap of automotive issues and running costs.
4)Its magic. You dont need to hold it up or out. We've never done that or needed to.
Thats why it has a cyberdevil inside to compensate.
Beige Wagon didnt have a camera to recognize when someone tried to plant something underneath it.
5)Yes we have the time.
If you read the sequence of events, you'll notice that I actually arranged for Clippy and the Cyberdevils to internet crawl the Whampire at the same time Black Rider disrupts things by going full disco ball.
6)No it isnt suspicious. Everybody uses their phones at odd moments, and this is not a phone free area.
It is explicitly stated that some of the purchasers here are here on behalf of other people who either cant or dont want to be here.
I can guarantee we wont be the only person on their phone.
7)I see no reason why Subterfuge has anything to do with this. Its only applicable in situations where you are trying to hide something, else you have no need for it.
Who are we hiding from? Why are we hiding? If nobody, why Subterfuge?
