Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

Who is we? Don't speak for all of us. If it chooses someone good then its a good thing but if it doesn't then it isn't better if it happens. If this is a good thing or not depends on who it chooses which is why people(including you) are trying to steer it a certain way. What kind of Exaltion you get doesn't dictate what a person will do with it either Molly being a perfect example of that herself.
While that is true, it's better for exaltation to be released in as controllable a way as possible than in an uncontrollable way. And solar ones are given with the basic intent of saving the world - this one specifically is aimed at someone in position to do so. So, that's already a predisposition towards heroic people.

... I'm all for Murphy getting a shot at this honestly. Goodness knows she deserves a better deal than she got in the OTL.

Great Curse is gone in ExWoD, right?

If we're exalting another Carpenter kid, then rather than Daniel it'd be more fun if one of the younger kids got it. But so horribly immoral to try to arrange it that there's no chance of Molly even considering it. 😂
This, I think, is what this genuinely is - it's another independent force that, in the darkest hour will be there to safeguard Creation. it is relieving to know, inspiring to see, that we have more allies than we or anyone else thought we had.
The main risk, of course, is that Exalts are very much in the "great doesn't mean good" camp, and although it'll probably go to someone who'll safeguard creation that doesn't mean they won't then set themself up as a tyrannical god-king. That said, Molly's sufficiently a believer in divine providence that she probably would just trust the Exaltation would be guided to the right sort of person...

Yeah, the setting doc says that the Great Curse has faded away over the turning of the ages:
an exwod sidebar said:
Exalted vs World of Darkness isn't so much con- cerned with how wisely you'll use your powers. Instead, it asks if you have what it takes to pull reality back from the abyss when it's already fallen over the edge and is free-falling into the dark. You'll make plenty of mistakes and suffer your fair share of tragedy along the way be- cause it's the nature of the World of Darkness. As such, I decided to leave out the Great Curse as a default play element. I assume that either the death-curses of the Primordials finally be- came as thin and frail as all the other miracles of the Age of Legends and faded away, or more likely, reached their intended conclusion when the wars and excesses of the Exalted finally de- stroyed the world they knew and created the World of Darkness. That said, if you want the Great Curse, it's in Appendix One, and I think the rules came out pretty well.

I don't think Charity would want to Exalt. She's got a fulltime job taking care of her many children to whom she has dedicated all of her time and attention towards. Sure if Molly, one of her children, made it sound like it was the only way she might go for it but I don't see her wanting to leave her kids to do murderhobo things like Molly so it would be wasted.

Yeah, you might be right. And it would be funny to basically get all Carpenter children to exalt... I am not sure. It's hypocritical of me, yes. He is a good candidate, and an almost-perfect member for our Circle. Honestly, I am not sure why I don't like this idea. I'll have to think about it.
I think it's that he's been all teenager-y about it. When you're considering people to gift ultimate power to, sulking teens are low on the list.

That's why "Alicia 'Leech' Carpenter, 11 year old nerd, exalted warrior of the Dawn" is clearly superior, right?

Solar ones in ExWoD target people who are supernatural adjacent without personally having supernatural powers themselves, preferably those who've been victimised by the supernatural and decided to do something about it.

This is part of what makes Daniel a good candidate from the Exaltation's point of view. He was injured by the Fetches who broke into his home and his reaction wasn't to curl into a ball, it was decide that he needed to git gud enough to be able to go put and fight evil.

That's almost precisely what an ExWoD Dawn exaltation is looking for.

If we can release the shard in Molly's hell where he's the only valid target for Exaltation, while he's on the middle of pushing himself, facing a Creature of Darkness to prove himself, I think he has a pretty good chance of qualifying.

He's also someone without any other commitments who can travel the world at the drop of a hat.

The best thing to do for Murphy is to get influence over Chicago PD so she can do the job she wants to do. It's not to put her in a situation where she'll need to abandon it to chase down whatever the incipient global disaster of the week is.

She doesn't want to be a globe trotting murderhobo. She wants to be a Chicago police officer. Anyone with this Exaltation needs to be happy to be the former not the latter.

Hmm. Perhaps Nevernever pocket realms instead. We have favours from Summer and Winter
Exalted shard that can find a host will go to them with nothing able to stop them. Even during the primordial war the primordial could slow down the shards not stop them. And they where way stronger then Molly.

Michael is a terrible for an exaltation he wants to retire, has true faith, and would lose the sword.

Neither do we neither has anyone who has ever been exalted. It is a blessing you are given not something you can deserve you can earn it make no doubt but it is a blessing not a reward. When we made our way out of winters hellish Garden fighting our way out we earned it but we did not deserve it
wtf, it is all about deserving it. You are chosen because you have the potential for greatness, that is like the one criteria. Its just a power to fully enable that potential. its not a blessing at all.
Okay I want a circle mate an ally that we can trust that doesn't have an outside influence that they're explicitly loyal to. That we can indeed trust to make the right choices if for no other reason than the right choices are defend Lydia and keep himself safe so we can fight ever harder. Exalts grow really quickly he'll start as strong as Lydia is now and grow more so as time goes on so selecting someone who will have to go back to their order/take on other students soon doesn't really make sense. At least not to my mind.
a circle mate that sticks us will gain xp at the rate that lydia does, thats a pitiful amount. he will grow much stronger if he goes on his own and gains his own exp. worth way more in the long run.

Yep, Great Curse is gone.

Daniel works, in principle. We have to ask him, and ask our parents, I think, before even thinking of attempting this, though. In a way that doesn't push him.

That potential is you earning it. Those hundreds of hours spent training the sword are you earning it. Those hundreds of miles sprinted in training are you earning it. Those hundreds of tomes of ancient knowledge read are you earning it. That hellish training to your breath is more silent than the wind is you earning it. We are talking past each other to be blessed with the might to someday reach shoulder to shoulders with the makers of the world is beyond any amount of potential you could ever possibly own.

A circle mate is actually useful in a not abstract sense in essence one Dawn is still greater than most combatants period never mind the fact that even if his growth rate is slow it's still within sight and well there are training charms to be considered.

We already have asked him and our parents that's why he's training in our hell. That's why we reserved the yomi sword for him. Do you mean asking before we put him through exaltation baiting that seems okay but we're going to have to frame that like it's going to be dangerous or rough and to be frank you can't tell Mom and Dad. Knowing that you have something coming to you might affect the exaltation actually going.

nah it just give you the potential to reach it unconstrained by things like biology and logic. The strength is earned, the potential for strength is also earned, i don't see where the blessing part come forms. buts its irrelevant.

a higher essence dawn is more useful, he can join us for things if we need his help, we dont need another fighter. fighting has never been a problem for us.

[x] Interest, if this thing is happening maybe it could be directed, you certainly need all the help you can get

Even if it doesn't go to a current friend I would expect more the 95% of humanity to be generally aligned with our goals.

Just getting someone to help lighten the combat load would be spectacularly helpful at this point.

We can spend more XP on them, you know? The worth of solar charms per XP is not lower than the worth of many infernal ones. We can afford to slow down our growth overall in order to get them up to speed.

i sincerely doubt that will happen.
It has always been a problem. We can win most fights, but never costless.
i dont remember a fight that we had a particular fight that was an issue for us. iku was easy, so was the vampire and i still maintain we can destroy the shapechanger.
like what fight has been particularly difficult once we are in sword range

Anyway, the ethics of exposing a person to sufficient danger that they exalt is... tricky to say the least. So far the best candidate objectively from the perspective of becoming a circlemate is Daniel. He has already established loyalty and knowledge going for him, as well as being almost our age, which makes social interaction easier. I could also see Olivia working ( @DragonParadox does Olivia have enough raksha blood to stop her from exalting as a solar?).

It thought you were one for some reason
Hasn't Molly heard the term green sun princess from people like the Outer Knight and Mab? Seems like it'd be tempting IC to draw a connection there even though that bit isn't what links them.

[] Concern, the world does not need any would be sun-gods trying for a do-over on the dawn of civilization, shut this thing down

God kings are a shit idea, and before it comes up again this isn't about Molly being special or more deserving than everyone else.

Picking an exaltations host for it is an exercise in frustration, and we don't know if we'd only had the one on hand to deal with. I'd sooner hand out nukes to people I thought were cool than exaltations. A mistake would do far less damage that way.

Olivia's fine, she has just enough of it to get a psychic power and those are compatible with Solar Exaltations.
