Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

Funnier scenario; we roll poorly and think she's getting murdered, causing us to bust in the door. She rolls really well and shoots Molly right in the face, which does basically nothing because of good luck with soak.

Then it's just crickets while both of them try to figure out what to do.

RATIONALE
Activating All Things Betray gives us -3DC to Perception rolls, and adds Perception to our Initiative rolls if we have to join battle.

According to the Sensory Acuity Prana fluff from the Solar charmset(pg 97, ExWoD), a -3 DC reduction in Perception rolls is good enough to, and I quote: <<<She can hear a person's heartbeat from rooms away, read a sheet of paper by letting her fingers trail across the ink on it, and count the hairs on a fly's legs from across a room.>>>

-3DC to Perception + Alertness rolls of 4(Per 2 + Alertness 0 + Stunt 2)
-3DC to Perception + Occult rolls of 7(Per 2 + Occult 5 + Stunt 2)
Awareness already benefits from Usum's -2DC, so thats a net -5DC to Perception + Awareness rolls of 4 (Per 2 + Awareness 0 + Stunt 2).

Basically, if anything magic is going on in our vicinity, we should pick it up just fine.
And even with our dicepool of Per + Alertness 2 + Stunt, we should have a good chance of picking up on even purely mundane signs in our vicinity.
Maybe we should be prepared to give an excuse if someone who isn't Greene's widow answers the door? Too bad we probably don't have any good props along with us, like a bible we could thump or a magazine sign-up form. Or a box of candy we could be selling for a school fundraiser.

IIRC, it was around this time of year that the schools roped us into candy selling fundraisers when I was a kid.

You should probably mention that we are stepping out into the rain (which we are), which would trigger BSM. Also, as a suggestion - stunt in gloves, so we don't leave fingerprints, in case this is about to become a murder site / an active crime scene. I am fairly sure stunting in minor things like that is allowed. Handkerchief is less useful and easier to lose.

@DragonParadox are we allowed to stunt in a pair of gloves kept in the car's glove compartment?

Do the magazine thing but have clippy make a fake student web portal with some generic form to fill out.

A little strange to be doing it on a flip phone, but Molly can just pretend to be a dumb kid who didn't want to screw with printing things out and then manually doing data entry later.

Sure, gloves seem sensible enough to have with you given past experience and they would fit Molly's fashion sense as well.

Hope we don't get pinned with the murder if she's already dead.
The fun thing about the Crown is that we'd know who killed her.
Wont help if its a supernatural creature, but if its one of their mortal minions, we can pin it on someone else pretty quickly.
Thats one of the situations where CCC would legitimately kick in.

I figured that we wouldn't just be making props, but also the armored walk in freezer.
Do you realize how many metric tons of steel you need to make an armored walk in freezer?
You arent getting that much metal discreetly from scrap yards.
Im just assuming that we stripped the building of the asbestos as part of the process of getting it up to code.

If someone who isnt Greene's widow shows up, our question is going to be "Who are you and what are you doing in her house?".

Us?
We're doing a report for the school paper, or a creative writing project on the Splattercon killings to bolster our university admissions next year, and Lieutenant Greene was in charge of investigations, so we're here to ask his widow some questions.

Window's open and we thought we heard someone in distress.

I dont think its raining here. If we are, BSM will activate automatically.
We brought a paper towel/hanky for the door knob if we need to check the door, but other than that, we can activate Rage Recast and simply fly above the floor.

Gloves suggest premeditation. Hankies and paper towels dont. Hence they are a less suspicious option to be caught with.
We really should look into TK.

It'd still be a pain to deal with. Turning knowing who the killer is into proving it would require freedom the cops wouldn't want Molly to have as a suspect, and the whole situation would be unusual enough to attract attention we don't really want.

Especially with our involvement in her husband's death.

Well if we get a few junked regular freezers it should at least get us the parts for a single big walk in freezer. Molly just has to make it nice enough that she doesn't want to cut her way out.

I assume the pain is a fairly standard feature of a lot of Dresdenverse shenanigans.
🤷

We have no trouble with making things cold as long as we have Tool Constructs; we can just cool down the room with dry ice we can make on the site, no problem. Or buy at $1/pound.

The armored part is where you have an issue.
A cubic meter of steel weighs eight metric tons. How much armor do you need to armor a workspace big enough to do actual work in? I mean, have you seen a bank vault on TV?

Arguable. We can always argue them to be fashion accessories.
We can argue a lot of things.
Its better not to have to argue at all.
Its still late summer; it isnt fall for another 2 weeks.

People wearing leather gloves as a fashion item in summer weather kinda stand out.

This carried over from the last update. The last vote we voted to go in with BSM active, using rain as a cover for why we were wet.

Not that many, actually. Because you don't make it out of metal. You use concrete and bricks, with metal sheets on the outer and inner sides. Ceramics (bricks) is a good thermal insulation material.

You make the internal and outer lining out of metal sheets (convert scrap to sheets via TTC), to prevent air flow. Internally, you use porous ceramics (bricks, concrete, perhaps) for actual thermal insulation. Ideally you also evacuate the air from the internal structure before welding it shut. This way you get a very good thermal insulation. Assuming a large room (49 square meters (7 by 7 meters), four meters tall walls), with 2 millimeter thick walls, you'd need 2*(49+49+4*7*4)=420 square meters of steel. That's 420*0.002=0.84 cubic meters of steel. That's 7.86*0.84=6.6 tons of steel. That's less than 5 junk cars. Noticeable, perhaps, but not that noticeable. Especially if we use different junk yards.

EDIT:

Usually safe doors (and I assume vault doors) aren't solid metal. They are metal sheets + internal filling (such as reinforced concrete).

Gloves are suspicious, but choosing to wear them can't reasonably be used as evidence for much. Easier to get away with than leaving fingerprints at a crime scene.

It is nice to be able to walk into our workshop whenever we want without having to do prep work.

You are now going to need to need to do construction work.
And do it in a place where you will need a fresh set of building permits to do that sort of thing. And fire code inspections.
And I dont know what the additional licensing scheme is for construction work in Chicago.

Somethings are just not worth the trouble.
You want to do that sorta stuff, do it underground at the Dragons Nest, where noone will complain.
Not in a poor neighborhood with a significant crime rate. I wouldnt feel safe locking ourselves in here.

My opinion, is that if it turns out to be a crime scene, we just call the cops amd play dumb.
This is a residential area, and we drove here in a car.
We have no way of knowing who would have seen us or our car. Leaving the scene just sets us up for trouble.

Reasonable pecautions are cool.
Gloves wouldnt be at this time of the year.

What are the odds it's nazis again? They were a big part of that whole situation, and we didn't really clean up that group.

They really should be on the list, even if they aren't here finishing the job, because letting berserker nazi werewolves run around seems like a bad idea.

Hopefully we can just burn down some safe houses, maybe possibly hurl some of their middle managers off of overpasses, and they'll get the message to shove off.
