Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

Merlin's construction of Demonreach is something of which a WoD Mage would be proud though. At the top of the scale they're immensely powerful.
And we almost made genious loci on accident, really Exalted are made differently. My opinion between wizard and sorcerers is that although sorcerers have more reach in different aspects like small reality warpers, wizards are able to use it more effectively in mass combat. They both have weaknesses and benefits (paradoxes/ Seven laws and techbane) which limit their ability to function in society. But I will say that a recent sorcerer wouldnt be able to fight an aprentive wizard with the same experience if only because spheres can only work for combat at the third sphere, while dresden-magic works more like linear Magic in that it increases in scale and not gives new ways to use the spheres.

Arc 5 Post 14: Dark Rites
Dark Rites

8th of September 2006 A.D.

You stare at the open window for a moment, its openness at variance with -you check-every other house on the street that you can see. "Clippy" you murmur "Take a look at the DMV records for the Greenes, and find out what they drive.".

With that you step out of the car, darkness sharpening all around you, each drop of rain a small silver needle in the fickle sunlight, each one a gift of seas ever flowing. Another precaution occurs to you. Patting Black Rider's door you add to him "If someone tries to get in drive off," a change of standing orders. Anyone minded to steal him here would be way more dangerous than a common thug you'd wager.

Without quite running you make it to the door and knock, once, twice. It's solid as they come, metal not wood, just painted to look like it, Muffling any sound from the other side Looks like I'm about to do something silly...Peering into the window you try not to make it too obvious, then as your eyes get used to the darkness you suddenly don't give a damn.

There's a woman collapsed on the couch, a bottle lying in shards at her feet, red wine slowly leeching into the carpet among a scattering of pills and is he not alone. Sitting brazenly on the coffee table is a dark haired teenager in a faded once-black t-shirt ladder slashed jeans and too large-biker boots, a look of ravenous rapture on her face. White Court, you recognize her at once, but not pari, not a devouter of desire but of despair.

The girl does not take her eyes off her victim, but as you look beyond her you realize she is not the only one here. Standing in the kitchen door is a gaunt man in a suit and tie that hangs off him like a scarecrow, the sallow skin and quickly thinning hair could place him at any age between thirty and fifty... or likely far far older. This too is a vampire, but one that is not feeding, a mentor come to show a newly initiated youngster the pleasures of the hunt.

"What are you doing there girly?" his voice, in contrast to his appearance is soft, almost sickeningly kind. "Best be off we won't be needing another one today. Go on then..."

The worst part of that encouragement is that that he is not faking it, not entirely. This then it the mercy of the killers of hope. So might a lion push off a young gazelle when he has plenty of meat for the feasting.

What do you do?

[] Leap in to kill the vampires, try to save their victim

[] Try to command the vampires to stop and open the door for you

[] Write in

OOC: Will post the rolls in a bit, but a lot of them were auto-successes between the -3 DC to perception and the -1 to all rolls from BSM. Also you won initiative on the only vampire who is aware of you, the girl is out of it.

This is definitly a case where I'd love to have Sandstrike Blast or Sinner-Boiling Stare.
Just opening up by killing the older one would be a smart move, before he can realise the situation and use his full powers to become a bit of a problem.

Not much, but a vamp is never completly harmless.

We might be able to get the fledgeling under control after we kill the mentor. That fact in the room plus the bonus against lesser CoDs should easily cow a young vampire.
But I see no reason not to kill the elder one. Leeches don't get a chance by default.

What are the odds it's nazis again? They were a big part of that whole situation, and we didn't really clean up that group.
They really should be on the list, even if they aren't here finishing the job, because letting berserker nazi werewolves run around seems like a bad idea. Hopefully we can just burn down some safe houses, maybe possibly hurl some of their middle managers off of overpasses, and they'll get the message to shove off.
I cant think of a motive for neonazis to target a Chicago homicide detective who is married to an FBI agent.
And while Gorfels rival Lictor is still out there, Im not seeing an intersection between his goals and Greene's death either.
We'll see I guess.

we were making a walk-in freezer, the simplest solution would be to buy one, and then reinforce it (buy I-beams, and weld them around the main frame). Quick google tells me that a commercial one should go for below 40k. If we wanted it cheaper, than buy a shipping container - two 40 ft large containers (place them side-by-side and cut a door from one section to the other would be less than 10 k. Reinforce those if Molly doesn't feel confined enough in those. Adding chillers to those should be easy with TTC. Yes, I think that would be the simplest solution.

As to feeling safe - you do realize that any reinforced room is also a safe room?
A walkin freezer is absolutely going to stop a mortal, but it isnt really armored against physical intrusion from a superhuman character. I still remember the one I visited and its flexing walls.
Empty containers are even worse; a 40-foot container weighs around 3.7 tons empty and its walls are less than half an inch thick.

Get a quote for a walkin freezer. One with the floor space for all the work we actually want to do.
Now get the relevant permits to fit a commercial-grade walkin freezer into this place, and the justifications thereof.
And then all of a sudden you find out that zoning regulations are relevant.

Chicago is a major city. There's all sorts of rules about what you can do in places.

This is a setting where the opposition has used chemical weapons, bombs, arson and magically empowered fortification crackers.
I am in no hurry to lock ourselves in somewhere we can afford to emplace defenses or defenders.
And especially not in a civilian residential area

We want to have workshops both above and below. The one in the dragon's nest for the more magical stuff
Why?
Distance is not an issue; they are in the same city. Duplicating facilities just raises setup costs.
And its not like we can use both locations at the same time.

This is supposed to be the showfront we can use as a front for our fabrication business. One we can show to inspectors at need and not worry about stuff.
Everything here needs to be aboveboard and with no red flags to draw additional scrutiny.

Do that shit underground. You can even do it underground and claim you did it in the warehouse.
Gloves as a fashion statement can be. And yes, we should call the cops once / if we discover a crime scene. Wearing gloves doesn't make it look like we were the ones to commit the crime. This is very, very reaching.
Wearing gloves on a late summer day at a crime scene would absolutely draw the attention of a responding officer.
And it suggest that you came prepared.

My two cents.
Yeah, that's a good point. Also, forget Red Court. Targeting (Christian) Hell, Order of Blackened Denarius, Thule Society, and "bring forth the apocalypse" project (we actually might want to spend a question on something to get a list of Thule Society and Denarian projects) together... I wonder, what Thorned Namshiel would think when they start falling to tie their own shoelaces to go to work?
NONE of these groups are people you want to target casually.
I mean, seriously, you want to attempt to fuck with the Archangel Lucy and its organization with an E2 charm?
While they are situated in their place of power? Thats crazy talk.

Hell, I fully expect your bogstandard Denarian would shrug off that sort of curse; when you have a Fallen Angel backing you, thats a lot of metaphysical heft. If the Archive didnt simply countercurse the Denarians to death after Small Favor, if Mab didnt curse the Denarians after Arctis Tor and Small Favor, we arent likely to have the metaphysical heft to do so.

Not at Essence 2.
Merlin's construction of Demonreach is something of which a WoD Mage would be proud though. At the top of the scale they're immensely powerful.
To be fair to WoD, we dont know if Merlin did the work alone, or if he had help.
Still an incredibly impressive piece of work.

EDIT
Update!

At first I thought that this was related to the Green murder, but now I am thinking that it isn't really at least not directly. Greens widow falls into despair at the death of her husband so a white court comes to feed on her.

[X] Try to command the vampires to stop and open the door for you

If he opens the door for us his hungry will go away well he is serving us. Do we want a another Wamp minion? He likely isn't more guilty then the ghouls we just happened to catch him at a worse time.

Eh, I think this is the time to use a similar approach to the Knight of the Cross. I'll combine it with Artemis1992.

We really need to have that talk with Lara.

We definitely are going to have one after this, no matter what we do, we're going to clash with her one way or another.

Why the hell did we do a lot of talking then?

We speak softly because we cary a big stick.

COMMENTARY
-White Court vampires dont go for high profile targets.
They especially dont go after federal law enforcement agents who are already proximately involved in ongoing crime cases.
This is almost certainly a hit. But why?

We want them alive. We have questions.

-Teenager? Interesting
This looks like a fledgeling. Might even be her first kill.
Is probably her first kill. Would explain this whole thing.

-A gaunt man with thinning hair and indeterminate age? Dude is not a vampire.
Whampires are almost invariably good looking. The girl is, the man is not.
Which is even more curious.

We want to know what we're dealing with.

-I wonder how they got here in the first place.

@DragonParadox
QUESTION
Does a White Court fledgeling's first kill count as a secret of the Twilight World?
Does it proc Essence regen?

1)The elder one is not a vampire.

2)Assuming they are a vampire and you kill them?
What are you going to do with the dead body of a Whampire in the home of an FBI agent? One you killed with a sword?
An FBI agent you are going to need to call 911 for on account of a suicide attempt?

Bodies dont just vanish.

Is it true for non Raith ones though?
It makes sense for all the sex vampires to be good looking, but it isn't necessarily the case for all of them, particularly the ones feeding on despair.
Yes.
Every Whampire we see onscreen is good looking, some painfully so.
Doesnt matter what they feed on. Good looks makes pulling victims a lot easier.

Gimme a moment to look for the White Court scene in White Night.

The BIG question is: Why the hell aren't they reacting to DPE? The teenager, ok, they might be mortal still. The mentor? This implies things. This might be someone major.
