Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

There isnt a shortage of criminals Im afraid.

I will remind you that the Fetches that kidnapped Molly showed up in the forms of horror movie characters because they drew power from people's fear. When Nicodemus Archleone captured Shiro he tortured him for power instead of just shooting him in the head. When Bianca St Claire captured Dresden she and her court spent several hours torturing him instead of shooting him outright.

The Dresdenverse supernatural world does not operate on realworld logic.
You aren't actually adressing my hypothesis that the elder vampire is a "moral" one, and is going after the woman because she's already suicidal, in an "angel of mercy" style of murderer.
A serving federal agent, who was married to a murdered Chicago PD homicide detective?
Is very much not a target of opportunity.
This assumes that she's still serving, and hasn't left the force after blatant corruption (from her perspective) saw her husband's murderer walk out and the investigation to be buried. Remember, if she saw the tapes, and wasn't read into the supernatural scene, Dresden walking would very bad.

Well I suppose it's up to me to tie break.

Because there is literally no evidence for any of that.

There's no evidence of his morality. His one spoken sentence is as far as I can tell, as much as not wanting to deal with disposing of a new dead body as it is mercy towards a, as far as he knows, random girl. Nothing prevents him changing his mind later and picking the civilian he thinks Molly is up later to tidy up a loose end.

And there's no evidence that the lady is suicidal, as opposed to just grieving.
Assuming she's grieving of course; we know nothing about her relationship with her dead husband.

This assumes that she's still serving, and hasn't left the force after blatant corruption (from her perspective) saw her husband's murderer walk out and the investigation to be buried. Remember, if she saw the tapes, and wasn't read into the supernatural scene, Dresden walking would very bad.
1)The onus is on you to provide any evidence supporting the assertion that she has left the Bureau.

2)If she had access to see the tapes of "Dresden" dismembering a body, she would also have access to see the other tapes that showed Dresden two hours away at the time of the alleged murder. Plus the multiple witness interviews that will attest to having interacted with him that you know the Chicago Police Department's Homicide Division and the FBI will have carried out.

3)Furthermore, she's an FBI agent, who was married to a law enforcement officer.
She has every reason to be aware that investigations, even in slamdunk cases, take time to build a legal case.

1) Molly thought that he was trying to be merciful:
The worst part of that encouragement is that that he is not faking it, not entirely. This then it the mercy of the killers of hope. So might a lion push off a young gazelle when he has plenty of meat for the feasting.
Given the level of sensory enhancements we are currently operating under, I am feeling confident that she's reading him right
2) We are currently observing a suicide attempt. We don't know if it was triggered / generated by the vampires, or if they merely took advantage of it. It's plausible that she could be suicidal.

1)The onus is on you to provide any evidence supporting the assertion that she has left the Bureau.
I am only asserting that this is a plausible scenario.

This actually depends. If the original tapes of Dresden killing her husband were shown to her through some friendly connections / pulling in favors, then the latter ones might not have been shown to her. Even if they were, to someone grieving they could look like fabrications.

Just mostly.

There are 2 Skavis vamps in the house. You literally have a Skavis across from the victim beaming despair into their head.
I domt see anyway how you can conclude its plausible she's suicidal. Possible? Yes. Plausible? Nah. Thats like seeing a dude who is acting crazy after inhaling bath salts and saying its plausible he has preexisting psychosis.

I am only asserting that this is a plausible scenario.
Its not plausible.
Greene was murdered a month and half, maybe two months ago.

Most people arent rich. They cant just afford to up and walk away from their job at a months notice.
Especially in a situation where half their household income just up and vanished, and I dont know if CPD spouses get a pension after the primary is dead. And even if Greene had life insurance, it wont have proc'd.

This actually depends. If the original tapes of Dresden killing her husband were shown to her through some friendly connections / pulling in favors, then the latter ones might not have been shown to her. Even if they were, to someone grieving they could look like fabrications.
No, thats not plausible.
Noone is going to show a grieving widow actual footage of her husband's body being dismembered.
And if they did so, video and witness testimony expnerating the first suspect is going to be a lot easier to justify showing.

I mean, she could literally drive there to the town of Menominee and ask herself.
Its well within regular driving distance of Chicago.

I just want to kill the older vampire, then dissapear his corpse with TTC.

The younger will be all the easier to intimidate after we cut up her mentor, from her we can hopefully hear what was happening hear and a bit of the why.

But for an adult vampire I see no real reason not to kill it when the chance presents itself.
So what about Greene then? Corpse disposal isn't instant and clean. We've got some time, but I wouldn't want to wait an hour while we clean up after ourselves to get her help.

TTC makes us faster, but this isn't a quick or simple thing in the first place.

The important thing is to get this guy to stop. Forcing him to bow accomplishes that more effectively in this circumstance if we can swing it.

If we can't make it stick after Greene is safe then we should go for killing him.

I bet we can force his true name from him though, which means he'll be intensely reluctant to screw with us.

We can't really do much with a true name, even if we get one.
And we can't keep him restrained while paramedics run around either.

If we want him dead, killing him now and then being quick about the cleanup seems like our best bet.

Votes are pretty close and split, leaving this up for now.

And we can't keep him restrained while paramedics run around either.

He doesn't know what we can and can't do; since most who see Molly going full infernal think she's an archdemon I wouldn't bet on him being willing to try his luck.

Worst comes to worst we can share with another caster. It's harder with mortal names sense they change quickly, but it can be done.

Alternatively we can empower a ritual cast by an ordo member who can use names to do something nasty. We didn't need dots in any path to be part of the ward raising, so I don't see why we couldn't do the same for other magical efforts.

Given how our other intimidation efforts have gone I don't think we'll need to restrain him physically. We might not even need to keep him around. Get him pacified, stabilize Greene, call the paramedics, book it.

Sitting around past the point where we can provide medical assistance isn't really useful for Greene.

There are places where this could go wrong, but as far as I can see combat here enters a failure mode if we don't kill him immediately and once we commit we can't try any other option.

Trying to crush his will before going for his spine lets us maximize our likelihood of success since we can try both shots for the cost of a bit of dialogue.

Trying to wheedle him into being nice would be stupid and a waste of time. That's not what this is though. Most of the plans for intimidation basically call for him to give us what we want on pain of being stabbed.

It's basically an opening salvo to see if we can immediately achieve our goal without further risk.

Incidentally, we should probably take this as a sign to do some prep work on Molly's cars for future situations like this.

So far we haven't had to kill anything as human as a white court vamp where mundane consequences could follow us or where we need to do clean up in a hurry.

While many of the factors against using violence as the first option stand, there will be cases where it is the best option to open with, or where we fail and have to default to it.

As macabre as it might seem, a kit for hiding or erasing our presence might be worth adding. TTC covers a lot, but there are things it can't do.

Like hairnets, hats to hide the hairnets, gloves, disposable shoes, some extra gas for burning places down, materials for mundane disguises, garbage bags/tarps for reasons, rope, some infrared camera disruption equipment mounted on headgear, that sort of stuff.

Which can be very suspicious, but a lot can be disguised as camping equipment. If anyone ever asks we're either planning to go or just got back from the great outdoors.

Add in a medical kit with things we can't TTC up, like narcan, then sprinkle in some basic supplies that we might want at some point anyway and we'd probably be fine.

Other useful items could include a box of nails for anti-Fey use, a big bag of salt for making circles and general anti-supernatural use, a couple large bottles of bleach for emergency Essence recovery and evidence removal, and a fire extinguisher.

The only one of these that would be suspicious is the bleach, but that can be disguised in plain sight, along with a lot of the stuff you mentioned above. Just put a lot of it in grocery bags in the trunk, along with other cleaning supplies, like window cleaner, laundry detergent, air freshener, etc. If it ever becomes an issue and we're questioned about it, we can just say we were on our way to help clean up our friend's messy apartment, or something similar.

Even though we have TTC, it won't always be practical or possible to expend Essence to use the Charm. A set of basic tools and supplies for simple roadside repairs is common cargo for regular vehicles, and can include useful additions like road flares, a bag of kitty litter, a container of antifreeze, etc.

Also wouldn't hurt to keep a spare set of casual clothes, plus a couple other outfits appropriate for other settings, like a nice set of business attire for blending into a business setting, a Sunday dress for playing up the innocent teenager angle, etc.

We could buy a technology excellency, and then spend an AP on properly turning Black Rider into batmobile. We are at the point where we should be able to roll 15+ successes.

Arc 5 Post 15: Lives at Stake
Lives at Stake

8th of September 2006 A.D.

The rain comes on heavier and yet you are set loose from the demands of earth for once not glowing like a second sun, floating across the window sill, with your feet coming to a stop twelve inches above the floor of the living room. In truth the living room seems to darken as you enter, floating across the window sill, with your feet coming to a stop twelve inches above the carpeted floor. "I should ask the same of you, old man, a qustion among many." You glance at the girl, the theoretical sympathy towards her circumstances fading by the second. And yet your tone is level at lest when you call out: "Stop that, child, before I make you."

Lost 1 Essence and 1 Willpower -> Now at 7/12 Essence and 7/12 Willpower

For all the good it does you might as well have been talking to the potted fern.

Before you can make good on the threat the shock on the elder's face changes to something imperious and cold. "I do not know what you seek here Gui Ren, but you are meddling with the righteous hegemon of this realm. Leave this place or no veil will hide you from the ire of the dark-dwellers or the glaring eye of the daylight world."

Fear roils behind his dark gaze like a storm at sea, but more than that he had seemingly decided you are an elder of the Jade Court interrupting the horrid ritual over some whim. .

Instead of answering you grab the girl's arm, wrenching her off the table, leaving her reeling whether by the violence of the act or the sound of the glass coffee table shattering she finally breaks eye contact with her victim. Alas for her she then makes eye contact with you and tries to pull power from the well of your soul.

"Had you not warded your mind she might well be convulsing at the touch of chi too harsh for her palette," Usum notes clinically, really not what you need right now.

Out of other ideas you you slap her hard enough to leave a mark and not just on her cheek. Her expression clears. "What... who are you? Are you a Raith? I... I don't feel... good."

Normally you would take the slurring words as an attempt to distract from the very real victim still on the couch a few feet from her, but then she stumbles into the wall, looking like she is about to be sick or worse.

"I don't know what game you are playing stranger, but if you lay hands on Sitha one more time..." The elder had reached inside his jacket as though to draw the gun, but the words gutter out at your glare, age-old malice strangled by the grip of nameless terror. Yet in the urgency of those words you understand with a visceral lurch. Someone would still have to die here. The fledgling, Sitha, had gone too far already, she had awakened her Hunger, but it had not gotten its filll. Deprived of any victim it would turn on itself, a parasite made pathogen that will then rip itself from the corpse to darken the dreams of men evermore.

"Sarah Greene's life is forfeit by her own folly and willingness to expose us all!" the elder practically shouts his poise scattered to the winds.

So you thought she would make a good meal for your kin if you were going to kill her anyway, you mentally finish the sentence, rather glad of Usum's comment or you might have been tempted to let her feed on you. After all you have a lot more life in you than the average person. But since that's not an option...

On the one hand you could ask for her fealty on the spot, that should still her Hunger, but that would reveal you have the power to a random pair of vampires you had found in the middle of a murder or... wouldn't an elder vampire also count as having more life than the average person.

"They would consider it... perverse mistress,"
Usum interjects. Were the situation less grave you would roll your eyes at the notion of vampire taboos.

What do you do?

OOC: Welcome to your first case of supernatural mistaken identity. It will not be the last.

[X] Offer the girl a chance to serve you in exchange for taming her Hunger
-[X] Leadership excellency
-[X] STUNT: With nary a sound, the corona of green flames expands around you, the banner of your soul made manifest. The flames gently caress the young vampiress. You speak, and you voice echoes, reverbating across the shadows of room: "You haven't yet killed anyone, Sitha, and so I shall grant you a choice. Bend the knee to me now, and your Hunger will abate, for none shall touch those that swear to follow me. Or feed on your elder - he shall survive it, this I guarantee. The woman, however, is not for you"
Would having a secretary give us more action slots?
