The worst case scenario: we die in the tribulation, the apocalypse happens soon after, and we don't get time to prepare.
Tbh I'm not really considering the possibility we die in the tribulation. Should we make some preparations just in case? Something to pass down our legacy or empower the people, maybe some teaching/keku insights? Probably the best we can do with the limited AP we have.

burn the old and bad to make room for good and new? I suppose it can work.
Hmnn, maybe some kind of Guardian? The "old" she is burning seems to be the memory of her former parents, and she is doing this to gain power to protect her new life. Some sort of Guardian/Warrior for sure.

Being powered by a tragic backstory to make sure a tragedy like hers doesn't repeat itself... Is "shonen" a valid core concept?

we probably have very good odds, but even with lightning catchers, tribulation array, presumably 2 meditation actions, maybe even 3 if we can use divine charges for the actual tribulation... well, there's STILL going to be a chance of failure. Shikatu explicitly nearly died in the previous tribulation by background, only being saved by Nekita ending up in his camp and giving him a reason to snap out of the illusionary attack from the heavens.

and we just don't know what the next tribulation will target.

Every Tribulation is a chance of us just... dying. Now, I'm going to heavily push for lots of insights AND the time foresight as soon as we can, so depending on insights on offers we might get a few options that will help us prepare for the worst. And of course we'll make a will and/or public statement that, if the Emperor is struck down by the heaven, Nekita will take our place. There should ALWAYS be a heir made clear.

Death or Life insights might help, who knows.

presumably 2 meditation actions
That isn't a good thing, that's the bare minimum Steveku the slightly below average guy is going to have before he promptly die.

I think we need at least four meditation actions, especially considering we have an heart demon and we don't know how it will influence us yet.

if we can afford the lifespan hit then sure. admittedly we can convert divine charges to it to AP, so we CAN indeed go for 3 or 4.

Before then if we're lucky we might get more helpful insights too, or other advancements. who knows.

I'm still wondering what would happen if we faced a tribulation while in the alien place of power, but sadly we're not ready to explore it yet...

Just because it might tempt you to an early death, I will tell you the last prize of the pyramid is an auto pass for the fourth step tribulation.
...

...

damn, it IS tempting. but ALL of our divination methods heavily discouraged that, and even if we wanted to try we'd likely have to spend multiple actions preparing between foresight, training, and probably creating a task force of third steps that, if they died, would basically doom the empire.

Better to wait for the post ascension, and we'll just keep that auto-pass for, say, Netika instead.

EDIT: can you at least tell us if we'd have to use that auto-pass immediately or if it can be saved for later?

  • [X] "Death, the great equalizer. In time all will know its kiss from the mightiest of gods to the lowliest of ants, it is the end and the beginning and to understand it means harnessing power unmatched. But to truly understand death one must experience it" Die and at the end of the next turn come back to life and in doing so gain the following, a Dao shard of death, the ability to resist death for a short while and the ability to impart death upon another a soul/comprehension based attack that deals instant death.
[X] "This path that you have forged, this power you have taken, is no longer just your own your species follows you into ascension and in time they will overcome you but this is your path align it more with your specie rather than yourself and see them take flight" the average Keku talent is increased by half a grade.
[X] "You who have united the Keku now face your greatest challenge, keeping them united. It is in the nature of individuals to quarrel with one another yet nature isn't absolute and your authority is enough to enforce this change you may not be able to sever it but suppressing it is well within your right" the Keku become less prone to arguments and conflicts and are happier when they are united. This insight changes the Keku on a cosmic level and will no revert on your death or loss of this insight.

oh, so we're also giving up one year of divine qi... that's a bit annoying.

This Dao Shard better be worth it!
At least every turn we head closer to industrialization, and with it a lot of resources based divine qi.

I already had idea to do some sacrifices before the tribulation to get those two extra meditation actions (one health, and one of two divine qi), we probably want at least one last Keku divine qi insight to get that greater divine qi generation.

Depends on how we do future sight (before tribulation or after), that could also influence stuff, but we are already pressed for time.

@uri , is there a way to see what divine qi for tribulation does before we ascend, a research, or granting one of the guys that do tribulation while we are dead a chunk of our share so he can call tribulation with divine qi?

I'm hoping to get at least 2 divine and 3 personal insights for each pillar at the very least (so 1 AP and one divine charge on each one). That would be another... 4 AP 6 divine charges for my minimal goal, which should be doable.

For industrialization... well, we're getting close. We already did a fair bit, if only with steam tech, and by the time we come back from our case of "the dead" we'll actually have hit tech level 6, which should introduce tech up to, I think, early ww1. So early airplanes, combustion engines, diesel engine, advanced fertilizers (though we already got those...), mass produced steel... and so on.

...I imagine there won't be that much of a market for cars in Keku society. In a city flying is much more convenient for personal movement, so you'd only need cars or trucks when you have to carry heavier stuff than you can fly with. and a good public transport system can help with that somewhat (let's say to carry shopping bags)

And to connect different cities Railway is likely to be just better.

I like the idea of offering the divine qi to a volunteer 1st and/or 2nd step, if we can transfer it. In time I imagine someone would try on their own, there just needs to be enough divine qi around for them to get enough without our intervention...

There is in fact a chance such happens but you can transfer divine Qi from one another (otherwise everyone would have transferred it to you).

Are there ways to increase such chances, like one of the people picked can take a more forefront role in the religion, drawing divine qi this way?

presumably the traveling demigods, our daughter, and whoever is more "popular" will get more divine qi directed at them.

I guessed, but I wondered if we can make people more popular, engineer a volunteer into being a hero the public can get behind.

Make him a genius, make him one of them who pulled himself to glory and divinity at the service of the emperor at his own heroic merits.
Increased divine QI generation, going down the divine Qi tree and a few other ways
I meant something we can throw fast while dead like the idea above this in my post.

So the information is there for us by the time of our own tribulation.

The Boy Named Shikatu.
Many times, has the wind came to your aid.

But even with two centuries that you have known its touch you have never seen it wrap itself around someone like it had around the little babe in your hands.

Deciding to help has been an easy choice.

Even setting aside that saving the life of a child was worth it on its own, you relish the chance to repay your debt to the wind that has been your steadfast ally.

You were currently in the operating room in the place, it didn't see much usage normally but even so it was still outfitted with the best equipment money could buy.

It was also completely useless for what you were about to do.

Yet it focused your mind on the task ahead and that was worth ten times all the expensive equipment on the room.

Slowly you released qi into the room.

Honed into thin tendrils you've directed it into the body of the babe in your arms.

Gently the wind directed your Qi.

Twisting the tendrils into ever greater shapes grasping something you could barely see.

The flickers you managed to catch confirm what you knew already, somehow the wind was grasping the very soul and connecting it further into the body.

The procedure took hours.

And while your instinct was screaming to kill the abomination held in your hands you have held him gently for it all.

By the end of it the instinct seemed to dim slightly and you could feel some of your strength returning.

But you were not done.

The body needed to recover before the soul could be interacted with anymore.

So, you returned the babe to his parents.

And took him to another operation a week later.

This pattern repeated itself many times and little by little the aura around young Shikatu -whose parents named in your honor- receded, by the time five years have passed he could spend time around mortals without trying to kill him.

It was around that time that there was a sudden improvement in his condition, with the aura receding as if he underwent more than a dozen operations.

It was around that time that you completed your eight pillar and imbued it with the concept of your race and barring another lead, you could only conclude that it has somehow helped.

Whatever caused it, with the improvement in his condition it only took another year to fully cure him.

Of course, even with the aid of the wind and your supernatural mind swiftly picking up the practice of soul surgery, messing with the soul is a dangerous prospect and young Shikatu hasn't come out unscared form the experience.

It is your conclusion that he would not live beyond his fortieth birthday, an unfortunate side effect of the surgery.

You first thought to teach his to cultivate so he may enjoy the higher lifespan but when testing him for talent you discovered that Qi was still dead to him, no matter what you tried he never managed to sense or touch it.

Your second thought was further soul surgery but without the wind guiding your hand you didn't feel confidant enough in your new skill to succussed.

In the end you decided to do nothing, you have given forty years to a child that would not have seen ten and that was good enough.

With the operation declared a success you felt something change.

Not in you or in others but with the very world.

But for the life of you, you could not say what has changed only that something has.

Gain the soul surgery skill at incompetent. gain ???

Allright, after this only the turn end remains and then we'll move to turn 9.

I think the procedure was worth it, the combination of a mystery box and the skill to do soul surgery were probably worth our while.

ok, unironically, how did this baby survive until the parents could bring him to the Emperor's presence?

Also did we give them a cultivator bodyguard? Because damn, even with the slowly degrading of the negative aura, It's unreal that it would survive this long otherwise.

6 years of weekly surgeries. That's an absurd time commitment from the GOD-EMPEROR in a normal situation.

Then again, we gained a lot. we "repayed" the wind (maybe? It seemed to WANT us to do this), we learned an incredibly valuable skill (and I wonder if this might help with the half-pillar third steps, or the Broken...) AND... we caused a "shift" in the world which we don't know.

Obviously it has to do with the very first soul-surgery ever happening on this planet (or, at least, in Keku history), but why? Is this the GODS reacting? the demons? Nature itself?

Shame the kid has no cultivation potential... but I'm going to assume we'll keep him under observation and possibly retest him as he grows up, also to potentially offer follow-up surgery if we get better or gain insights that might help, if we get enough divine charges and the cost goes down enough it might be worth considering... and of course we might want to ask for his assistance in qi-interaction experiments.

For example, maybe we could learn to replicate his condition of qi-immunity with arrays, and use it to basically create anti-qi-technique-barriers, or locations in which qi just can't be used and so cultivators are weakened (cultivator-grade prisons?)

Or maybe we'll find a way to give similar properties to armor, or fortifications.

Who knows.

In the meantime I think the most immediate benefit of having Soul Surgery is that we might be able to apply this knowledge to the problem of the Broken and/or the half-third step.
