To make a note, I was speaking in general. It very much depends on the Deva in question since two of them would very much be able to best a Grappleomon of similar power in melee. The boar and the ox.

Edit: It's just that more deva's than not aren't melee specialists.
To be fair to the Grappleomon in question the Ox described being the best of the best of Deva in its physical skills and the Boar can kool aid man it's way past so many things you'd probably have better luck trying to stop a Locomon.

ie: In the case of the later it took an Ultimate of the Growlmon line with a partner to beat in and even than the pig was holding it's own pretty well.

Agility Training, By Zwart Jaeger. (Canon Omake)
===Somewhere with Locomon Tracks:

Clear blue skies... the sight of it seems to strike a chord in your core, the sky so very blue with nary a hint of cloud, though... That may have more to do with the fact that you would much prefer looking at the sky rather than having your vision dominated by the coarse rough surface of the ground.

Furious winds blows past, a disorienting distraction as you attempt you twist your body to an upright position and slow your descent using Void Step.

However, attempting to create platforms in a bid to halt your momentum proves to be a futile endeavour. The chains connecting your body to the speeding Locomon, make sure of that.

Thanks to the sheer speeds at which the Locomon travels, you don't have time to actually finish the movement technique, leaving you hurtling back towards the world's surface at startling speeds. Thankfully at least, it does allow you to adjust your body to minimize any damage the impact might cause.

As you bounce once... twice... three times you manage to hit the ground running and avoid smashing through a rock before a fourth bounce is added.

As you try to keep up with the Locomon (being dragged more often than not) your mind wanders back to the events that lead to this situation.

===

"Guh!" You let out a small grunt at the attack and swipe at the black JewelBeemon whom had just jabbed you with blunt end of his spear.

Easily darting past your counterattack, Beat counters the strike with one of his own, maneuvering his spear behind your leg with a deft hand before sweeping backwards. The blow's force brings you down to a kneeling position, lowering you just in time meet the JewelBeemon's knee with your chin.

You roll with the attack, literally. Using the force from his strike to roll back, then transition back into standing position.

The black JewelBeemon hovers in place, waiting for you to get in position. At his unvoiced question you answer with a nod and a grin showing all your teeth, as you move into a fighting stance, something that your dark compatriot reciprocates.

A moment or two passes in silence, as the two of you gauge the other... then Beat rockets forward spear held in front in preparation for a thrusting attack. Knowing that you can't match his speed even with Hasten Burst, you simply stand your ground and make predictions.

Using your knowledge of Beat's attack patterns, you managed to deflect the first couple of strikes with your Kuma Tsume guiding the spear away with almost gentle pushes, as outright blocking them is beyond your capacity.

Unfortunately that doesn't last long, as you push away another thrust, a swipe from his spear manages to slip past your guard. It all goes downhill from there.

Several strikes hit home in your chest leaving you gasping for air, then another smacks your left leg bringing you to a knee.

Another attempted counterattack is interrupted as Beat smacks away your right arm, a move that which also leaves you open for his own counterattack, an uppercut.

Despite your bulk, Beat is more than strong enough to send you tumbling down onto your back. Before you can even shake the cobwebs from your mind, Beat is already standing on top of your belly spear pointed at your neck. He peers down at you and tilts his head, as if asking if you wish to continue.

"I yield." You answer his silent question with a nod. Beat responds by offering you a hand up which you don't hesitate to take.

After hoisting you up by a knuckle spike, Beat flies back, simply waiting as you chant your healing spell to wipe away the aches and pain accrued during this sparring session.

"Zehahaha I guess I'm still far away from landing a hit on you" The black JewelBeemon for his part, seems to agree nodding at your statement.

"You're still a champion." He states plainly. "Until you reach Ultimate, you cannot defeat me." Beat bluntly states his thoughts on the matter.

"That is correct." You murmur, slightly disappointed by your lack of power. "But still, you have my thanks for assisting me in training my reflexes."

After that the two of you part ways, Beat going somewhere to train, whilst you head to your barracks to rest. On the way over however, you spot a Locomon station and an idea strikes you.

Locomon are renowned for their speed, I could modify the training I performed with Sparks. Instead of trying to stop the Locomon's momentum I could try to keep up with it instead in a bid to train my speed.

As you ruminate over the matter, and come to the conclusion that yes this is a good idea and with your mind set you head home to rest.

== Next Day Locomon training:

After training with the Mayor, you find yourself wearing a chain harness tied to a Locomon and while you may have spent a while convincing the mon in question to allow your training, the Power you would gain from this training would be worth it.

Starting the Locomon moves first at a slow pace, and you easily keep up, however it doesn't take long for the Locomon to pick up the pace.

This may have been a poor idea.

Trying to keep up with a Locomon as it turns out is a different sort of beast, compared to trying to stop its momentum.

While both are impossible for your current level of power, one of them is easier to manuever with as you just have lean out of the way and let the momentum of the Locomon do the rest.

This training on the other hand, skidding across the ground whenever you miss a step, smashing into obstacles like trees, rocks and boulders, giant boulders...

But eventually you manage to find a sort of rhythm and manage to trip up less and less, but there are still hazards everywhere and you stepped into a pothole and you tripped...

Huh a naturally formed ramp... oh spirits! A giant ramp...!!!

You hurry to move out of the way, but with the Locomon's speed and momentum, you can't move fast enough-

*Thud*

-and sent you tumbling up once again.

== Flashback End... Back to the Present.

You manage to regain the rhythm you's established previously, but this time you're careful not to step into any cracks... or anything else that could cost you you're balance.

The training goes on and despite your best efforts, you still manage to trip and crash into well... everything.

But at least you still improve.

By the time you returned to Alt City you're breathing very heavily, more than a little roughed up and may have lost a patch of fur or two due to friction. Despite that though, you're still smiling.

"Zehaha, that was a satisfying experience." You collapse at the steps of the station and wake up to Sparks complaining about the efforts of having to magically haul your unconscious body to the barracks, but you still feel that the training was very much worth the effort.

I'm guessing the only reason the Locomon agreed to help without asking for some kind of payment was morbid curiosity regarding the sheer insanity of the request :V

So I found out that Gokuwmon technically doesn't have any Canon Mega evolution, so I thought about looking for Megas that fits Gokuwmon's characteristics and what I found may surprise you.

I found Jupitermon as a suprising fit for Gokuwmon.

Let's talk about there similarities for a moment shall we...

First is that their both thunder users and their attacks both specifically mention thunder.

Second is the fact that they both wield blunt instruments for weapons, a staff for Gokuwmon and what Jupitermon calls hammers but really are dumbbells.

Third is what I believe to be similar stat distribution, Gokuwmon is known to be both martially and magically proficient so that's an indication for the Strength and Special stats, Jupitermon is seen wielding Dumbbells as hammers and all of his attacks uses lightning, so ditto for Strength and Special.

Finally is the fact that Jupitermon's previous evolutions the Aegiomon and Aegischusmon are all Satyrs or half man, half beast like Gokuwmon is.

So all in all if this theory is correct then my previous analysis on Jupitermon's viability is pretty much all wrong.

Also if Gokuwmon Verge carries with him the Honorable trait and his heroic ambitions that just makes Jupitermon all the more likely, plus Verge is already a Dad with his Spiderboys.

Plus Gokuwmon is based on Sun Wukong a divine being and so might be considered as a God Man.

Edit: Is this the surprise you mentioned Drexal?

Oh right I almost forgot, Jupitermon has a mode called Wrath mode, like Verge so that's another plus to this theory.

Huh... isn't Jupitormon also one of the, if not the strongest members of the Olympus 12?

Hmmm Verge is looking to mater his emotions so it would make sense given how Juptiormon is said to work.

11nth Of Fire: IceDevimon & MadLeomon
[] Accept the *test*. You'll head out with him and duel this berserk digimon with martial skill alone.

Pre Update Note: MasterTyrannomon is essentially a hypersonic flying dinosaur. When he really travels at full speed, the distance covered is vast.

===

There's not any room for doubt here, you choose to accept undertaking MasterTyrannomon's *Test*. While sparring with him has been both enjoyable and enlightening, the idea of battling a new opponent is a very appealing one.

And besides, this feral digimon must be taken care of. It's destroyed one town and that's one too many. You must stop it here, if only so this mon won't be able to cause further suffering in the future.

Your master is most pleased by the quick and decisive answer and wastes no time in slinging you over one shoulder.

During the trip, you begin wondering just what species of digimon you'll be combating, even going so far as to ask the Mayor about it. Given his experience, you'd be surprised if he didn't have theories on what type of mon you'll be fighting. However the Ultimate recommends that in this case you don't think about it. Instead of preparing yourself to fight a specific mon, you should go into this next battle without a bias. According to him, it'll be good practice for when you're inevitably ambushed again.

Though all of this does bring up another question, namely, how he knows where to find this place. Which turns out to be rather simple. He's been to *Donumess* before and it's along a Locomon track, which is how news of its attack and ensuing destruction got out so quickly.

One hour and fifty-seven minutes later, the two of you set down just more than a kilometer away from the ruins. It's here that you start sensing the digimon responsible. A dark power, one filled with fury. More importantly however, he's strong.

Just seeing the still smouldering ruins brings a very familiar emotion to the surface. Wrath. Hearing about a place's destruction is one thing, but actually seeing it on the other paw… it reminds you of your own village, of Count and Repulsa. Indeed you only barely hold back the urge to sprint and and tear the digimon responsible apart.

No. Anger is a tool on your path Verge. Do not let it not control you. Let it help you exact retribution.

MasterTyrannomon says something, but you're already rushing forward, muscles swelling with newfound strength and speed. You close in with every thundering step, glaring at the rapidly approaching broken shops and homes, more evidence of the unjust destruction. Then with a final leap, you soar over the first line of buildings and land in the settlement's main street.

You howl, issuing a challenge to the feral digimon responsible for this violence. But as the seconds pass no *Lion Digimon* comes out into the open to attack you. Instead a chilling breeze assaults your nose even as a winged shadow darts across the ground. The outline is nearly enough to bring out another roar of anger, but you wrestle with the feeling, forcibly controlling the fires of wrath.

Cold cruelty, dark power…

"What's this?" An unfamiliar voice chuckles in clear amusement, drawing your gaze upwards. "A traveler perhaps? If so then it was most unfortunate that you came here today Gryzmon."

The frost-covered Devimon openly leers at you, his crimson eyes twinkling with an open gleeful malice. You respond to his words with a snarl, directing your fury at the demonic champion. While running up to delete him is appealing, you hold off for now. He seems like the talkative type and you need all the information you can get.

"You… you implemented this destruction?" The devil shrugs at your question, completely unconcerned by your look.

"In a way Gryzmon…" He trails off suddenly, eyes widening in sudden recognition. "Your claws, that size… Verge. Ohehehehe! Yes!" IceDevimon throws his arms up in the air and twirls around in… glee? Watching him celebrate is a little off putting, but what's really confusing is how he knows your name. Fortunately his next words answer that. "A bounty falls into my hands on the same day I claim a minion! Daemon be praised!"

Minion… his follower did this and… hold on. Praising Daemon?…

You get a flash of Pit's faces all screwed up into a wince and can't help but find a moment of levity among the anger, silently chuckling at the idea.

"But this is odd, I was assured that it would take hours longer for any Host forces to arrive… no matter." Your enemy dramatically points a claw at you, before shouting out an order "Take him beast!"

Rotting flesh, viral fury unending.

You pivot around, raising your guard just in time to meet the arcing strike of your leaping opponent. MadLeomon. The viral digimon's claws scrape across your raised war-gauntlets, thrusting your rear-paws a score of meters back through the hardened dirt and into the front of an abandoned shop. The wooden construct splinters against your bulk, collapsing in on itself and showering you with debris.

Before the the broken wood can even be shrugged off, the dark furred undead digimon closes back in, following up with a second full-bodied strike. This time you turn aside and flick out your right paw, parrying the wide attack at his blackened forearm wrapping before stepping back to transition into a crossing counter strike aimed at his ash-hued mane.

Only, instead of falling into your blow like you predicted, the Ultimate spins with the force of your parry, slipping past your extending limb before rising up into a counter of his own. You hurriedly abort the maneuver, switching to another deflection that sends his glowing digits glancing off your forearm.

It's here that the gnashing and snarling digimon changes tactics, unleashing a furious ensemble of more compact blows directly against your guard. It's not a conscious decision, you can't detect so much as a hint of feral cunning. The only thing present in his maddened eyes is a sense of intensely infuriated instinct.

And yet if anything that makes the long-armed feline a more difficult opponent to fight. Swipe after swipe rains down upon you in rapid succession, leaving you unable to do anything else but defend. Little by little your defense begins to weaken, his viral-wreathed claws rip at your body time and time again.

Despite being a full head and shoulders taller than the roaring berserker, he still has the range advantage. And to make matters worse, the arc of each wickedly large limb is strong enough to send you continuously moving back.

You grit your teeth and continue the doomed defense, waiting for the perfect opportunity. While he doesn't have a discernible attack pattern, that fact is useful in of itself. It's only a matter of time until-

Now!

MadLeomon's entire body twists, sending an overarching swing towards your ribs. Rather than intercepting the blow with a deflection you bend both rear-limbs and lower your left Kuma Tsume. His tainted digits smack straight into your left pauldron, then bounce off, leaving him momentarily off balance. Broad attacks won't work, not with his superior agility and insane instinct.

Short, compact.

All at once you move, extending your lower limbs, twisting your hips and striking upwards with an Uppercut. Even when off kilter the undead lion shows incredible agility, bending back to avoid your claws-

*Crack*

-just as you predicted.

Your knuckles smash into his gut, launching MadLeomon a solid ten feet into the air and placing his gut right in the path of your following strike.

"Winning Straight!" The ultimate might be the stronger mon, but your heavyweight Kuma Tsume carry far more kinetic force.

He may as well have been struck by a charging Locomon.

The enemy's entire body buckles around your war-gauntlet, silver claws punching right through his muscled abdomen even as your knuckles leave three gaping holes in his chest. Then the force carries him backwards, shoving him a full score of meters back before he even hits the ground.

For a moment you smile, feeling a sense of pride at the example of martial prowess. However that's cut off as the berserking Leomon rolls to his feet, rears back an arm, then bellows.

"Jūoudaken!"

You stare at the head-shaped ball of concentrated dark anger, almost feeling a sense of familiarity with the energy-based projectile. Said feeling only lasts a moment before you're forced to block, crossing both fore-limbs just before the technique hits home on your guard. What little impacts your arms burns, poisonous energy corroding at your fur and skin even as the force nearly knocks you off of your rear-paws.

MadLeomon uses that moment to close the distance again, locking his arms with your own before starting to push.

Even through the pain and anger, you can't help but grin at the enemy. A Worthy Opponent.

I will win this.

===Battle plan.

[] Draw the fight out, wear him down with smaller strikes until you can weaken him enough to land a deciding strike.

[] Try to end it quickly, attempt to trade hits and land a lethal blow. It's risky, but you're confident that your mutations will win out.

-[] Optional: Potential combinations and tactics.

===Authors Note! Right... I didn't manage to do any writing yesterday. So I hope this kind of makes up for it. Anyway, MasterTyrannomon is still around, Verge is just hypercoused on the MadLeomon.

Verge reacted to familiarity to the MadLeomons attack and it was mentioned and it was mentioned that MadLeomon was a possibiltiy if the count captured Verge.... was MadLeomon Verge's old champ form or did he just have extensive contact with one?

What if we were the original MadLeomon? After all he was an artificial 'mon when he first appeared as well.

I assume he's going to make sure the demon doesn't interrupt the fight.

Perhaps the familiarity doesn't necessarily have to be about the MadLeo or his attack directly, but rather the type of attack or feeling coming off it? Powerful fist type enegy attacks are not rare after all.

I am going to remind you that this is a challenge of pure martial skills, we use our High Programming and we will fail here.

Verge was alive around the time Daemon, and I wouldn't surprised if a lot of the species known today were still unknown than.

So uuum possible but I have no idea how likley it is.

This is actually why I think it has to do with the MadLeomon species, if it was just the type of attack our wrath text would have given a familair ping much earlier in quest.

I am going to remind you that this is a challenge of pure martial skills, we use our High Programming and we will fail here.

However, there's nothing stopping us from using Muscle Charge. which isn't high programming.
That said, maybe there's a few tricks we can learn by taking it slow and observing him to piece together any moves he may have that we can learn ourselves. maddened zombie or no, he's bound to have something we can steal and turn back around on him.
Every fighter has a tell after all, something that invariably will lead to their defeat.

And with Verge being as analytical as he is when it comes to combat situations? Yeah.

[X] Draw the fight out, wear him down with smaller strikes until you can weaken him enough to land a deciding strike.
-[X] Draw him in with feints, force him to commit to attacks and then use the openings those provide to get in hard combos. Mach Jab, Combo, Winning Straight, see if we can pepper him with strikes to force him to guard one area, and slam him where he's weakened. Use Void Step to get behind him and attempt a Spinal Tap in order to slow him down, even fractionally.

@Zwart Jaeger your plan is incompatible with the test we were given. We have to beat him only using Martial Prowes.

So guys, you might want to keep in mind that the devimon is still around and can tip the scales at any time by joining in here.

So getting completely focused on one target while another is free to do whatever might be a very poor choice here.

Huh I thought we only have to kill him, well then.

Point, however how I want to point out we haven't exactly seen many fist attacks in the past similar to this. We didn't even get to see Tyrant Fist from Orgemon.

I mean it's not like we can do anything about him at this time considering taking our attention away from the Ultimate MadLeomon for even an moment is an even worse decision. Also the only to given votes don't evem mention Icy so I think it's safe to say he's not a priority.

Don't forget, Mayor is here too. he's got this.
Yeah, but this is also a test and one that I bet the Mayor will stay out of unless it looks like we will die.

Since losing awareness of our surrondings and only focusing on one target when we know at least another hostile is in the area would be a poor move. Both because it would be a bad happen to get into and one that would be abused by clever foes. An something I know the Mayor would chastise us on if it lend to us getting punished for it by the devimon or worse yet need him to bail us out for doing.

Or it could just be a sign of Verge getting laser focused on in his duel like he tends to do in fights like this.

Could really go either way there.
