Bones creak, and muscles tear but you don't emit any sounds of discomfort. After all, your friend is hurting worse than the simple pain brought on by a desperate hug.
"It is alright." you intone calmly, lightly patting the wommon's tattered wings. "You are alright. Magic or not, our friendship still holds. Our paths will not be troubled by this setback and-my oath to you remains strong la-Ardat." A part of you wants to keep going, to swear eternal allegiance, say anything that would make her feel better. However, that's not a commitment you can make. Even to her. You have other promises that take precedence and need fulfilled first.
Your demonic companion sniffs once, rubbing her face against your fur to wipe away the tears and very clearly calms herself down. She pulls away, cutting off the embrace and you let her go.
"You have our thanks servant.-It really means a lot and... we're sorry for always doing this. We'll try to be-we shall act more regal as our destiny demands-Mhm." She pauses to look at you, lavender eyes flashing with sudden intent. "And if we can't slide digivolve, then we have to to dour best to make sure you can!-you're our trusted servant after all and- important to us like... almost like Scratch." Her head bobs down for a second at the reminder of her mentor, before shaking in resolution.
Her... trusted servant? Important, almost like Scratch?
Warmth spreads through your core as her words truly register, bringing happiness, the desire to be even closer and… odd flash of something else that's not happy.
"My thanks, I know the subject must hurt but you're choosing to help me anyway." You bow your head to the LadyDevimon in gratitude. "And... I too hold you in high regard."
"AHaHa!-Good! Then let us not suffer any further delays servant. we shall make sure you understand our superior teaching skills!" Her gold claw flashes, scooping up Frigimon's manual once more. "Now come! Let us battle this foe of ignorance together!"

Next morning, your meditation is interrupted as Sparks pulls the sliding door open and steps lightly into the room. You hear the small champion, nervously striding closer as his boots make barely audible sounds on the padded ground, but don't move to greet him yet. He silently stands several feet past the entrance for eighteen seconds.
Is he waiting for something... my eye is closed. He might think I'm sleeping!
You rise up from your meditation to look at the one-armed Wizardmon.
Sparks takes a step back, then after a second inclined his head.
"Verge. You have mine apology."
Apologize?... for what?
"There is not a thing you've done wrong-"
Recently.
-Sparks. There's no need for this."
"Nay. There is. Mine focus on studies and seeking information have left me bereft of your contact." The champion shakes his head then glares back at the door. "And 'tis true that it allowed... certain influences to be had upon you."
... I think he means La-Ardat?
"Heh, to admit another fault as well. Mine core has felt pines of jealousy towards thee for slaying SkullSatomon. 'Tis true that his efforts in our villages destruction were but minor, but..."
"I see... Sparks, I, It was selfish to delete him without your input."
"Hrmph, 'twas not your fault... it is mine fault for the feeling. Hehe. Still 'tis nice to speak with thee about it."
"Zehaha yeah. His deletion was..."
"Boss, help me!"
"Crescent Dawn!"
Victory is mine. As it should be.
"We shalt render the same fates upon Musyamon, DarkLizardmon, and Count! Perhaps not this day, or month, but our growth cannot be denied! One vengeance shalt be completed together!" I'm going to kill them all.
"Aye." You nod darkly, barely keeping your war-gauntlets from puncturing through the compartments floor. The thought of Fu, or what's left of her comes to your mind once again, but you don't mentioned the former Sunflowmon. It'll only make your friend angry and not in a mutual sort of way. You do share the crippled digimon's feeling, even if the once numbing emotion has slid down to a mere *boiling* over time. As a Gryzmon you have a better control over your emotions, which is all the better. When you Tear them apart and Rip them asunder for all they've done; you want to be fully aware when it happens.
Sparks must see something from your face or body language was he let's out a grunt of agreement. Neither of you speak it, but the oath is reaffirmed.
"An idea crossed mine mind." your magic-inclined friend continues. "'Tis something we should practice, fighting as a pair that is. We can use your size to our advantage, as I can use thine body as a platform to cast sorceries."
"Or act a shield." you agree, before looking at the spot where his left arm used to be. "It is an idea I like. But uh, how would you..."
"-Hold on? Heh, a good question but not a subject that brings worry. It shalt be a simple fix."
Fighting together? Not single combat, but... it makes our chances to complete our oath all the stronger. And if Scratch's advice holds weight, he will be needed to find victory over faster opponent.
"Verge!~" Ardat's harminous voice softly carries through the now open door. "We're here for your lesson!" Sparks immediately whirls about to the much taller mon and shoots her with an intense glare. At first the LadyDevimon pulls back in the air with surprise, but then her eyes flash once more and your friend moves to return the gesture.
... not good.
You feel an odd, almost physical sort of sense of tension in the air and worry-that Sparks might attack your la-Ardat.
"Nihihi! An interesting challenge retainer, but not one that a being such as ourself needs to meet. I have no desire to see you broken so-" the now smirking LadyDevimon flicks her claw once dismissively and continues on her way towards you. "Return to your master and bother us no longer."
Retainer? Like servant?... no, she's using it in a more hostile manner. Ardat meaning something else. But what?
In response the Wizardmon clenches his fist around his staff, but nonetheless sidesteps enough to make sure her hanging legs don't hit his hat. However, while the Ultimate settles on your shoulders, the wizard shakes his head.
"Do not think me intimidated. "tis my decision to stay."
"You dare to-"
"He can stay." you cut in decisively, throwing the wommon a warning glare.
"Heh, believe me bit-Ardat. Staying with thee for hours is not mine wish, but Verge is more important. Do not think to harm him again. I already seek to slay one Ultimate. Another to the list shalt not be a problem."
Your worry begins to intensify as they lock odd gazes once more,
By The Ten and uh, Lord above? Please let this turn out okay.
=
When Ardat finally leaves the compartment a few hours later you slump in relief. The nearly physical weight of worry falling away as you're able to finally stop worrying about the two mon coming to blow. Your lad-Ardat would win of course, but you don't want to see either of them come to harm.
Sparks stays another half hour for conversation and to ask if you want any more magical tutoring, but that's not something you're interested in right now. Studying slide evolution is difficult enough without your mind trying to comprehend two different types of coding.
However, before he leaves you get a thought. Unlike you, the champion can go about the Locomon with ease. Which means if you want to access a certain mon...
"Excuse me, Sparks?"
"Yes?" he pauses at the sliding door.
"Would you be able to find Pit for me? We uh, haven't talked for a while. I know he's busy but..."
"Heh, say no more! I shalt arrange a meeting for you this day!"
"Oh, thanks Sparks!"
"Think nothing of it."

Authors Note: Okay this is the first third or half of the update depending on how future writing goes. Next part might be out later tonight. We'll see.
You know I think Pit and Ardat might dislike each other for more than just the Angel/Demon divide even if the other reason may be a more subconscious thing.
You know I think Pit and Ardat might dislike each other for more than just the Angel/Demon divide even if the other reason may be a more subconscious thing.
Like I said I suspect their is more to it than the demon/angel divide.
Anyway so since we appear to be heading up to the mission soon... I really hope learning this still comes with a way to turn back, or at least that Verge is smart enough not to cast it on himself immediately without a way to do so.
Still once we learn it.... I will once again say that I hope we can become Vikaralamon for maximum swollness, that and it surprisingly matches a lot of his personality traits.
I mean even looking at Vikaralamon's temperament it's said to be pretty good.... but its still based of off a hog and those things are horrifying once you make em angry.

Also true, though hopefully being able slide dissolve would migitate that outside of major fights.....still now a part of me wonders just how big Verge can get.
Anyway I like Verge's just being well... bigger so far as his traits go, you don't have many protagonists that skew to the larger size of things, usually because that would be overpowering in a lot of settings, but with how BS humanoids digimon can get it's actually pretty balanced.
I don't a part of me just finds it amusing that in a way our characters feel like one of those out of the way bosses in RPG's thats way stronger than it's 'type' of enemy should be. Naturally I haven't seen that sort of thing portrayed in story format so it's a pretty nifty experience for me.
Hmmm anyway a part of me thinks that our current 'superior' is the last thing Pit should be hanging around if we want to avoid one of his... darker routes. One of the primary things associated with Wrath after all is anger unleashed upon those who do not deserve it, and that's exactly what Zealots like to do.

Isn't Verge's personality closer cleaning to Caturamon than Vikaramon?
Caturamon are:
-Highly loyal both up and down the chain.
-Strong sense of justice
-Poor sense of subtlety, extremely direct.
-Moderates disputes between its allies
-Minor Earth and Metal affinities
-Evolves from Gryzmon naturally
Vikaramon are:
-Lazy, sleeps with eyes open
-Gluttonous, eats more than its size suggests, and its the size of houses
-Cheerful
-Passive
-Closest previous form is the Drimogemon->Digmon->Ankylomon path
Both are magically inclined but then most of the Devas are.
On a separate point related to when got evolutions read and because of data contamination had Champion forms impossible, can you imagine how poorly Verge ending up a Witchmon would have ended up?

Hmm... Sparks and Ardat as the top two was maybe a bad call. They're never going to get along. That one session in particular was less mediation and more the two struggling not to attack each other, with no progress being made. I'm looking forward to how the rest of this week goes tho.
Travel bread is tasty I guess, but eating so much every day is getting a little...
"Friend Verge!" your angelic friend enters the compartment with his normal jubilant greeting. Cutting off your line of thought in the process.
"Mmph." You turn away from the meal, hastily swallowing the mass of Travel Bread and clearing your throat. "Pit."
"Ah! You're eating lunch! Fear not my gigantic comrade I can come back later!"
"Er-no! It's fine, I was just finishing up. You don't have to go."
"That's fantastic news!" the diminutive angel counters, lightly settling down in front of you. "Comrades Sparks said you wanted to speak with me so here I am!" You open your mouth to respond, but the holy mon excitedly continues on. "Throne HolyAngemon is teaching me a lot of stuff about combat and tactics and stuff! Kind of like Sir Scratch but more advanced!" Pit slams his rod to the ground and grins. "Every day my dream feels like it's one step closer to being completed! The Accursed Gloaming shall be bathed in The Lord's purifying light!"
Is he done?
"My stalwart comrade!"
He is not.
"Friend Sparks has informed me of how much time you're spending with..." His mouth warps between blinks, flipping into a deep frown. "Her."
"Yes, I have been spending a lot of time with her." You reply with a narrowed eye. "And?"
"I must warn you to be careful of her ilk! She's a fallen angel now! A being of darkness and evil! The digimon you knew as a Witchmon isn't the same!"
Anger.
You let out a low growl, and nearly tell the champion to get the heck out for insulting your la-Ardat. But barely hold the anger back. Pit's frown deepens as he points a finger at your head.
"Please listen! She almost deleted you!"
... point, but- no. I cannot let this stand.
"She-Ardat is not evil. My la-friend was hurt, she lost a great deal and lashed out."
"If that is how you feel, then friend Verge I shall not broach the topic further, I just beseech you to be wary." He exhales with a hint of sadness.
"Will that be all Pit?" you say through clenched teeth.
"Yes friend Verge. It is." The Pidmon says before turning to leave.
Hnn... that was, not pleasant. I-that interaction. No, it. I should not end things like this.
"Wait. Pit. You have my apologies for the, brusque attitude. I planned our conversation to be. Well, less hostile."
"Hyuk, I would have preferred it be more pleasant too! But I have been remiss friend!" The now happy mon whirls about, and flashes a bright smile. "So my stalwart companion, what did you wish to speak of when meeting me?"
"Well yeah! Uh that I. Hmm. It's about."
Focus. Calm mind Verge.
"It is about my newest spell. It involves praying to *The Lord*. I wanted to know if it that makes me a part of the Hosts religion. Now Spar-"
"Of course it does!" Pit shouts with a clap of his hands. Congratulations on converting away from that false set of beliefs! I welcome you into the Lord's arms! If you want to know anything more about it feel free to ask! The guys here know a lot about that stuff and I could get one of them to visit you! I'm a sergeant now so most of them have to listen to me!"
That advanced a little quickly!

As if trying to make up for time lost, Sparks spends a vast portion of the next week with you. Going so far as to actually sit in on most every study session with Ardat. The conflict between both mon is palpable and a little sad considering how Sparks used to get along with the wommon.
However, there's nothing you can really do to heal this rift, well besides preventing things from escalating further. Your lad-Ardat doesn't want to give up your time together, and seems... perhaps a bit possessive. In return, Sparks seems offended that the Ultimate is trying to monopolize your time like this and just generally doesn't seem to like the wommon. Though you can very much understand the latter emotion given what's happened.
Overall it's all very strange and you're pretty sure it's only through luck and your la-Ardat's mind settling that things didn't devolve into blows.
A small part of you is actually offended at the fact that Sparks is so hostile towards her, but it's Sparks, so there's really no room for anger there.
The days continue to pass and sadly your predicted success with slide evolution does not bear fruit. It's not like Ardat, who reaches the sensitive state of sliding but can't shift downwards. No it's the first part of reaching said form in-between form that's giving trouble. It's hard for you to describe in exact detail due to the complex interactions happening on the very base level, but it almost feels like your core is fighting against any attempts to shift. Which you theorize must be due to it's dual attribute nature and unnatural stability.
However, you persevere through the frustration nonetheless. While it's true that that your advancement in the subject has slowed, after making so much progress, you refuse to back down on this path. Something that is made easier with your mistr-Ardat's cheering and Sparks throwing in the rare word of encouragement. On the sixth day, you reach the manual's end, having memorized all of the caretaker's tips and advice on the subject. Meaning from here on out, the rest is solely up to you.
Though speaking of your core, over the past days something has... changed. It's impossible for you to figure out exactly what happened, but something is different; you're sure of that. It's true that subject is concerning, but you keep silent on the matter for now. After all, you don't want to worry anyone else about such a minor matter.
Calmly the worry is shouldered along with the trepidation over being a rookie again. Only time will tell the effect of either subject, and being able to shrink so much should be useful. For alleviating boredom if nothing else.
In the daily exercise with Beat, yet another weird experience begins to crop up. There's something odd with your war-gauntlets' silver claws. During the kata's your metal blades feel strange, as if they want to take some of your stored energy and utilize the power in some way. Said feeling gets stronger and stronger as days go on, but you don't give in to the urge. Needless to say, you're wary about any sort of weapons testing whilst in such a confined space. It could damage the compartment, which is not only Blessed Host property but also where you're sleeping. And you doubt that you have enough bits left to pay for any repairs.
The Stingmon in question shows up in less frequent periods than before staying only for the kata before leaving. The insect champion seems more busy than ever, though with what you cannot tell. While you're more than a little curious about what it could be, there's a physical change you notice after the fifth day. Your friend(?) has started to wear a red scarf around his neck. Naturally, the desire to ask him about it is nearly overwhelming, but you curb the impulse for now, not wanting to accidentally offend Beat so soon after opening up.
===
"Hrm... Verge?"
"Yes Sparks?" You reply through clenched teeth, trying hard not to growl in anger.
This should be working. The variables are lined up perfectly, I've studied, the work has been done.
"Perhaps it is thine own mind blocking off the attempt?"
What?!
You level a glare towards the champion, who calmly meets the heated stare with a wry look.
"In mine own experience, thine concentration upon a single task is unmatched. Perhaps instead of keeping track of every variable, 'twould be better to focus one a single objective no?"
Focus on a single thing? That... hmm, I'll give it a shot. A different method to achieve progress on this journey is surely worth attempting is it not?
Nodding to the champion once, you close your eye and cut off the surrounding worries. Trinary, possible danger, the rocking motion of the Locomon compartment, everything sinks below awareness until you're left with only a single task.
Drimogemon.
Your body warps.
A second passes.
When you next open your eye, everything has changed.
Oh no! Did I shrink?! Why is everything bigger! This-the whole place is shaking are we under attack! Where's Lady Ardat?! Sh-she could provide safety! Focus Verge.
You try to take a deep breath, but somehow end up hyperventilating as you whirl about in panic.
"Verge!"
Sparks! It-it's okay, he's here.
"How is thine condition? Art thou okay?"
"Ye-yeah, Haha." You chuckle nervously, a little wowed at how un-confident you sound. "I-I'm fine this for, is A-uh, well umm… not as like, mentally strong as Gryzmon?" You'd gotten used used to the absence of this constant uneasy feeling before. Readjusting after spending so long as a Gryzmon is... uncomfortable.
"AHaHa! Fantastical job Verge! We knew you could do it-yes under our tutelage servant you've done well... we liked Gryzmon better.-Yeah he had more fluff and was cooler!-And was more useful." The twitching wommon crosses her arms, and you have a feeling that the *other* self is only barely restraining Ardat from rushing over to wrap you in a hug. Which would be extremely detrimental to your health to say the least.
Then I should go back to Gryzmon right now-no! I just got in this form! I can always turn back later... uh right?
Continuing to take breaths, you slowly begin taking stock of your body. Compared to when you last used this form, it feels different, better. You feel stronger, faster and somehow lighter, though that's probably a consequence of the stronger bit. Plus you haven't grown in size, meaning that the door at the end of the Compartment is something you'll totally be able to go through!... you just hope there's nothing dangerous beyond there.
A jump in place sends you soaring up towards the ceiling, ending just before nose touches the roof. Leaping ten feet into the air isn't bad certainly,
However... the overall power loss overall is clear if only due to the fact that you've shrunk so much.
Being weaker like this is... n-not the best. I'm more vulnerable so. I think... I prefer being Gryzmon.
Beyond even that, a pair off strange feelings shove themselves into focus. Your skin starts to feel tight around muscle, almost like it's struggling to hold the concentrated power and there's an odd pressure on your core. Both are vague right now, only vague, barely felt hints, but still there.
Pushing those aside for now, you slowly pivot towards the doorway.
Now that I'm smaller I can like... visit the train's other cars. That should be uh, good?

[] Go to the dining car Sparks mentioned earlier. Travel Bread and portions of other stuff are nice and all, but you want a new meal!
[] Head out to the Workout Car. You're a drimogemon again and it brings up a question you've yet to answer. Can you get stronger in this form?
[] It may be the best idea to just meditate until your mind is fully at peace once more. Maybe the Blessed Host setup has someplace quiet that could work?
[] Stay here for now. You've yet to test going back and forth between forms. Lady Ardat and Sparks should be useful in helping you figure this stuff out.

First things first, we should try to see if Verge's nature has screwed with the technique. If it's just a matter of a time limit or something that's fine, but I really don't want to come up to yet another emergency only to realize that Verge has been holding off another explosion, or bleeding internally, or even reached the point of "If you don't revert right the fuck now, the only way you're going back to Champion is with an evolution."
So, to that end... practice, practice, and hope we catch any problems ahead of time. (Too bad about the new food, peace of mind, different food, power increases, and food, though. At least the ride's nearly over, so we might make up for it later.)
