Crystalwatcher's Magical Girl Quest!

Official Timeline:
Let my know of anything I missed or got wrong. Also, suggested edits if you have any.
I noticed that there's a lot of stuff that is on the previous timeline post and isn't on here. Mainly things that happened outside Earth, such as the Calamity, an MG killing a Dark Lord, Gabriel's Last Stand, etc. All the stuff that we knew the occurrence order of but not the actual times for.

Should we assume that all those events still exist and that the relative order of them has remained the same?

The Goddesses are shattered, and shortly afterwards White Soul goes off the deep end and slaughters the old guard before Red Rose puts her down.
Wait, the Goddesses got shattered at age 13?

They already had their reputation at that point, right?
At what age did they start fighting?

I always thought the Goddesses were in their early twenties at this point...

The Oblivion Incident: an unknown divine being moves to assault Gaia directly, descending upon Ireland and slaughtering everything in it's path. Neighboring nuclear powers unload several nuclear warheads into it's metaphorical face.
So, did the unkown die to 'nuke to the face'?

Did Gaia actually fight?

5-year-old Jessica Ongeluk levitates a car, triggering the start of World War 3 as Poland invades Germany.
?!??
This confuses me on so many levels...

A five year old levitating a car as the first public display of useful magic and then WW3 starting in response isn't new. That was part of the old timeline.

The main thing that's different now is that the year in which humanity discovered magic is earlier, leaving more time for everything since then to happen.

  1. Apparently. No one caught it or brought it up.
  2. I have it as they were fighting for at least a year before Hope happened.
  3. The unknown did not die to the nuke, but was injured enough that it ran away.
  4. Gaia did not actually fight. It was a reaction done by Humanity on it's own. Autonomous Weapons are bullshit like that.

Wat.

I mean I guess useful magic becoming a thing might start WW3 but starting because a 5 year old levitated a car(and not i don't know factions starting research into magical soldiers) and the first conflict is Poland attacking Germany(instead of Russia or China attacking someone) is just so out there I don't know how to react.

Edit: Another thing if history is anywhere near the same lines as OTL the Germany and Poland are allies because EU and Germany has a pretty good military advantage over Poland so they just decided to commit Geopolitical suicide I guess. And how does that conflict escalate to WW3?

The obvious fix is to have Germany invade and start World War III. It's tradition, really. :V

Battle for Los Angeles. Gaia accidentally summons C'thulu into the bay. The Golden Gate Bridge is not wrecked by some miracle.
The miracle is presumably that they've moved the Golden Gate Bridge to LA, and San Francisco hasn't responded by declaring war on them for gutting their tourist revenue. Not entirely sure where it would go though, since the LA coastline is mostly flat.

:p

They proved magic exists earlier, but this was the first public example of magic being used to actually do something useful.

Was all theory before that 5 year old.

Okay but all my other points stand as this scenario is setting my inner critic off as that's not how Geopolitics works. Especially the who of who started the war. What was the government's justification for it? Oh this 5 year old levitated a car I guess we should invade our ally who is militarily superior to us who is also in NATO which would call in all of NATO against us and we already don't like the only country who would actually be willing to help us fight NATO. Yay for Geopolitical suicide! and somehow this Morphs into WW3 with who exactly on which sides? And don't even get me started with the transformation into the unification crusade all because the new pope asked everyone to. The papacy holds no political leverage except in highly religious catholic countries so lets look at the potential powers. Before starting these are all secular countries so religion shouldn't be considered in policy making US predominantly protestant, Russia eastern orthodox, China has several religions within it's boarders but predominantly non christian. Those are the only three countries that could ever be considered super powers (and that's with me really stretching the term cause the only super powers ever were UK just post WW2, USSR and USA) in the modern age so why would they consider the pope's word?

Sorry if this is a bit rambly. I love the actual story but you have to admit the path presented to reach the political situation of Earth is complete and utter nonsense.

But..you don't know the geopolitics of this world?
For all we know Poland could have been a superpower capable of taking US and winning...or not.
You're assuming the situation politically speaking would be similar to the real world, when clearly it wasn't if WW3 started.

In a already tense climate learning about magic would easily start a war, especially if you have reason to behave the other faction would use it to crush you, or you want to crush the others.

For all we know the real started before, with intelligence agency going into a manhunt for magic and finding nothing until that point, and that was only the act that made a already tense situation exploded, or crystalwatcher Poland wanted to conquer the world:lol

For all we know they could have invaded because the masquerade breaking made a really nationalist MG come out of hiding to join the military.

I agree with this sentiment. The details of this part of the timelines are really off. It worked better when this part was vague.

A better trigger for the war would be something like this. "The potential of weaponized magic caused a increase in tensions amoung already hostile nations coming to a head when [Nation A] obtained video evidence of [Nation B] having a magical girl working for their military forces. Fearing a potential mass production* of such super soldiers they launched a pre-emptive attack on [Nation B]. This resulted in the allies of each nation joining in the conflict that soon consumed the world."

Nations A and B can be any to nations that have significant hostility towards each other and Nation A isn't to much militarily weaker than B. Poland and Germany aren't a good example. Better ones would be: US/Russia, India/Pakistan, Iran/Israel, North Korea/South Korea. Either in these pairs would could be A or B.

For all we know they could have invaded because the masquerade breaking made a really nationalist MG come out of hiding to join the military.
Semi-ninja'd

*The idea of magical girl wouldn't be fully understood yet so the might not realize it would be a single unique individual.

As for the war ending I don't think anyone would take the pope remotely seriously even catholic nations. Especially considering everyone would be using magic banned by his religion in the war. It would make more sense if the winning faction decided to bind themselves together into a super UN and didn't give the losing faction a choice to not join. Also the earlier part of the timeline seems to fast. The massive cultural shift needed to convince nations to merge like that would take way more than a 3 year war that didn't damage the world infrastructure enough to destroy the economy. Push everything post war back a decade and it makes more sense.

That part has been mentioned on Discord to involve widespread (but very minor effect on each individual) influence from Gaia.

The current state of Poland starting WW3 was actually from me asking for a reasonable trigger state that'd let me have Germany being involved with starting it, but it not actually being their fault.

It was originally Turkey, but everyone shot that down on bounds of no one liking them.

So if you have a better suggestion, i'm for it.

Meh, i repeat.
With all the informations we have, going "But it make no sense" is simply nonsensical.
We know nothing about the governments, the political climate, the alliances and so on.
People are just mixing the current world and his geopolitical situation with the quest world.
You can see it with people going "but NATO wouldn't approve" when they don't even know if NATO still exist there, or it's political situation.

Sooo....what do you know about this pope?
Tell me anything about him.
Was he a war hero? Was he a magic user? Was he loved by the masses?
Who "won" the war? What relationship existed between him and the superpowers?and him and the masses?

Frankly put, two lines of text are really no information for start going "but wait, it make no sense".
You are just mixing the real world and it's current asset with the one in the quest.
Seriously, Playing critic with two lines of text is just ridiculous

In this case, I would say that it is on the creator to explain AU-elements; the audience usually assumes that anything not explicitely mentioned to have been changed is the same as in our world.

Yeah, but assuming that a world in which WW3 started clearly was like ours just the second before the war started even geopolitically is pretty ridiculous.
I mean,OUR geopolitics can change with one or two nations changing party, in less than an year sometimes.
Especially when we have a living earth, magic and infinite dimensional war.
The second it is said "magic is real" it means using our geopolitics it's not the best idea.
When you have Poland invading Germany, Magical Girl running around, magic and so on, using our geopolitical situation is a recipe for disaster, because it's implicit things would change.
Even thebsimple fact thay Gaia exist could have brought the pre-war political situation in a different way.
Politics and geopolitic are highly variable in times of crysis.
The devil Is in the details, almost everything can be sensible with a good explanation.

Germany isn't really a good choice for it. They are surrounded by allies geographically and culturally have making sure the horrors of the Nazi's never happen again. However they would be dragged into any sufficiently large war that involves NATO.

Actually having the conflict start out as multiple separate wars based around pre-existed hostility set off by magical arms races. Those conflicts can then merge as they grow and draw in more areas. Don't be much more specific then that. That way people can fill in the blanks that work for them rather than poke holes in your details.

Drag out the war so that it is longer, maybe push everything that takes place after it can just be pushed back a decade. Even with Gaia influencing thing having a large enough cultural shift to make global government sound agreeable would require a very strong desire to never let that happen again so this conflict will have to be worse than WW2. Remove the Pope part and just say that near the end of the war many of the nations merged together to form the Akashik Pillar and used military force to make them comply. Details are not your friend in this kind of thing as it is hard to get them right.

The use of real life nations, locations, and dating systems suggests that this is a fairly recent divergence from real life history particularly considering Germany didn't exist as a nation until 1871. The first entry in the timeline that takes place in this dimension is the discovery of magic in 2007 suggesting that is the historical divergence point. Who the pope is doesn't matter in the slightest. No nation is ever going to give up their sovereignty to a foreign power on the say so of a single man with no authority over anything they give a shit about. Most nations would just consider him crazy and many of the ones that may care would be more likely to consider it a declaration of war on their entire people. Especially Muslims in the middle east as crusade is exactly as friendly a term to them as jihad is to modern Americans. This isn't even a matter of geopolitics it is a matter of human nature. Unless this pope was actually the strongest magic user in the setting specializing in mass mind control no one is going to submit. Particularly because they are in the middle of a world war with the groups they would have to merge with.

Russia used magic to bypass poland and attack Germany. The girl floating the car caused them to panic and attack a bit early because someone took it as evidence of another militarized magic program.
Far more plausible but I would recommend replacing the floating car with something more intimidating, that looks like it may be government controlled.

Well, some factors that definitely didn't apply IRL but do here:
1) Gaia. She was actually messing around with the human existence with magic. Led to more then one case of spontaneous human combustion, and many cases of new natural hair colours.
2) [SPOILERS]

"i can already know what would happen in x case even with a war i know absolutely nothing in between" is...okay, but, totally your opinion?
Experts were sometimes taken completely by surprise in the real world by sudden changes that were considered unlikely.
You can see how going "well, that is impossible, even if i have no idea who accepted, who this dude is, what happened in the war and so on" is firmly in the realm of "totally opinion", especially when people have always different opinion on what is going to happen in the real world an year in advance.
Reality is not what is likely, is what happened.

Regardless, if you're so sure is utterly and completely impossible regardless of any circumstance....

Or you know we could just blame it all on the Illuminate.

:V

I mean.
We all know the illuminati is just how Gaia call itself(?) when she is an holiday:rofl:
