From my understanding, the souls of the demons aren't effected by the sacrifice. Essentially, they'd die anyway, so the Akashic pillar has managed to figure out to almost literally make the demons drop resources and money. And yes, the majority of demons are conscripted. The majority of demons also gleefully participate in the nastier aspects of the Unified Darkness' society, and more benevolent demons are a distinct minority.
Main elements of the whole process as far as I can tell:
-We're going to kill them regardless, nothing happens to their lives or their souls that weren't already happening. The sacrifice process is thus not inherently inhumane, though it could provide incentives to be inhumane if a lasting peace happens.
-We really need those resources because all the forces occupied with the war are costing resources.
-Demons are kind of renewable. The population is unlikely to be impacted significantly by the harvest, which is good because the resource incentive goes to supporting races which don't spawn so freely.
Okay, this has been bugging the ever loving hell out of me since... I don't even know how long. But recently, me and my boyfriend got into this discussion about Entropy, and how Magic seems to completely ignore it in pretty much every way possible. Normally, not something I'd be worried about, but hey, he's planning on going into professional science and magic research, so it's something I want to help him figure out.
A bit of research later, and it turns out it's a lot more confusing than the two of us thought possible. There's also a lot of talk about how Souls fit into this, and that makes it all worse but...
Well, I guess what I'm asking is: "Whats the difference? How do they all play between each other?"
If anyone can help, I'd be very grateful!

Thank you Limitless. It's been bugging us for a while, and we'd be thankful for all the help you can give us.

Yes! Finally! Some one else asks the question, and someone finally answers it! I asked after the exact same thing weeks ago here, but no one replied!

Ah crap, someone got Limitless babbling. Can one of you remind me what the word limit is on the new forum posts?

Hey, none of that Stranger. We all know how bad Limit can get, but there's no need to act like that. She's one of the foremost researchers when it comes to magic these days, and we have to respect that. So no bashing, rule 69.
Also 75,000. So it shouldn't crash your laptop like last time. We've been working with the server owners to streamline the new forum structure to reduce bandwidth loads.

Sorry, I just get tired of reading essays on what should be simple topics. That 50k book Limit made on why chocolate is better with almonds was a little too much.
Also, whats with the new moderator tag?

Since Grey Champion is back, but still stuck in the hospital, she's been bringing the hammer of god down on the site administration because of The Mess Called Kirby Quest. Bore71 was temp-banned, Confused is currently replacing him as an Admin, GLADOS is now perma-banned, and the less said about the Tribunals the better. The banner asking for applications isn't non-dismiss-able for a reason and that's not because Champ thinks it was funny. Only reason I wasn't banned was because I tried curbing Kirby Quest around the time everyone started trying to Game of Thrones their grandchildren.
Also because I joined after the Thong Cannon, but we don't speak of the Thong Cannon or the Bra Hole.
Okay, I had to dig up my notes and stuff, then convince Doctor Kuzuki to scan and reduce the size of it, but here's a run down on Breakfast Call's request!
To start with; Physics, Souls, and Magic are three completely separate systems. No one knows why that is, but it is. And depending on what dimension you're in, each system holds a greater sway on your surroundings than the others. (Example: Earth is almost entirely defined by Physics with Souls and Magic being background bonuses, but the Home Realm is mostly Magic with Physics replacing it in the background.) Each of the three systems are entirely self-contained with minimal influence between each other though it is possible to influence one with another. Like how we can observe and forcibly modify Souls using Magic, or force Magic to follow thermodynamic structures, such as- [Deleted Content: 24,000 Words].
Now, physics and the laws of thermodynamics I'm pretty sure we're all aware of, so I'm going to mostly ignore them for now and move onto Magic. The first thing you need to realize is that Magic ignores the Conservation of Energy as well as the Conservation of Matter; meaning it ignores Entropy and Entropic Effects as a base rule. So instead of just being energy that gets moved around, it's constantly created spontaneously by the environment, and when used to cast a spell, simply vanishes. Akashic Pillar scientists are looking into using this fact to make some kind of infinite energy generator, but it's really difficult. You see, in order to do such, you have to bring the system called "Magic" into contact with the system we recognize as "Physics". When we do though, one of two things can happen: either the cross-over follows the Rules of Magic and the law of Entropy stops applying, or Physics takes over and Magic suddenly has to worry about Thermodynamics. The real problem though starts at the fact no one has a clue on what exactly governs the choice. So bringing them together the same way nine different times could have the combined system flip-flopping back and forth each time.
There was a rumor about a Magical Girl whose whole shtick was enforcing Physics and Entropy but- [Deleted Content: 54,000 Words].
Gah, I'm digressing again! stupid speech-to-text program. Anyway, back to the main topic, the next -and last- is the Soul System. Souls are a lot harder to pin down for the simple fact unlike the other two which have a lot of overlap, Souls are actually an entirely self-contained system. It's possible to use Magic to observe the Soul system, but interacting with it is hella complicated. This means that there's a surprising lack of info on it. We know it's possible for a Female Soul to wind up in a Male Body and visa versa, and we also know that Demons and Angels have their physical forms created by directly using their souls as templates, but beyond that we know vanishingly little on what exactly Souls tend to effect. For example it is known that Souls can add additional leverage to the Physics and Magical Systems, but not why or how. We also know it's possible to damage souls via Magic and specific kinds of Physics, but not what end effects those can have. What we do know though is that Souls are more or less limitless in a way that neither Magic nor Physics is capable of equaling: a soul is capable of personally perpetual and sustainable growth until the death of the physical shell-[Deleted Content: 31,000 Words].
Editor's Note: Limitless is a good girl, and she's smart, but she also has a bad habit of rambling on and going off on random tangents. I cut out as much as I could without rendering her response useless, but I'm not actually all that good at it.

Due to plot reasons the majority of humanity's nuclear arsenal was (peacefully) destroyed prior to our entry into the war along with a lot of the technology for mass producing them. As a result we're kind short of nuclear weapons and thus haven't got enough for that to be worth while.
Plus Hell is infinite so it's not really that useful.
But destroying the tech behind mass production is just a delay. As long as the knowledge exists, it takes at most a year or two to have mass production if you are a major nation. What did we do, kill all the scientists?

Not... quite, there is a fear that if new nukes are not made the the institutionalized knowledge of how to make them could be lost. It is hard to remake the stuff when that type of knowledge and experience it is lost. Not impossible in the slightest as the base physics still exists, but it would taker longer than 2 years.
I still dont think it makes sense for Gaia to let humanity get rid of the nukes, they are her weapons after all.

The good 'ole US of A very nearly lost the ability to create fusion weapons because of how hard it was to find someone who was allowed to know about some of the substances used. Did America Forget How to Make the H-Bomb?
Really
Another thing to consider is that the purpose the nukes are made for is different in CWMGQ than in reality. A naval mine would require one size and an ICBM would work better with a different size. And tactical use is a horse of another color, as it happens mechanized forces are pretty nuke-resistant (compared to a town or city...). In-Quest this has led to the nuke-wizards to build a bomb that coverts the (squint-eyed) nature of an atomic explosion as a tiny star into a death ritual, since the ritual effect can melt the faces of things that would shrug off being inside a nuclear fireball.
I do think the nuke-wizards went a little overboard with their smallest examples, something that could fit a 155mm shell would probably be useful for the Counter Force...

Unless I'm getting the timeline wrong, humanity has only been in the mood to use nukes for a few years, and youl'l notice that the big push we're getting ready for has enough magical ICBM's to scour multiple continents.

Hope fell a long time ago. Long enough for Sega to have to take over as parent because her dad died there and her mom fell to pieces and started abusing Nepgear.
As for mindset. . . After losing an entire world, there would be no questions of using nukes. It would be flat use them like firecrackers.
The fact that said "quest" went on as long as it did with subject matter that would get you banned from Questionable Questing, let alone Sufficient Velocity/Space Battles.

humanity hasn't gone on the offensive since the fall of hope, and you'll notice how demons tend to hug population centers when invading en mass. I don't think there are any major UD worlds within raiding distance, except hell with is essentially raid proof due to its weird geography.
essentially, unless I'm getting something wrong, the UD has been hitting humanity and the UL with a full court press because a mankind on the offensive means long-term any world mankind can reach is a write-off. So they have been doing everything they can to make sure they are too busy for major assaults, and for whatever reasons, humanity can't reach anything nuke worthy to raid.

It hasn't even been a decade since Hope fell. It's been like what, four years? And the timeline in Nep's backstory is a bit funky anyways since, unless they fixed it since I last checked, Sega got ten year old Nep out of her mom's custody in 2009.
